EVO 4G/3D speaker - HTC EVO 3D

Okay I don't understand why the htc Evo 4G has a louder speaker then the htc Evo 3D someone correct me if I'm wrong but After making the upgrade I notice when playing music the Evo 4G had a louder speaker then the 3D. Is it just my phone or is that the way it is??
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App

Yeah the 4g speaker was louder.

It's night and day Evo 4g is louder

Is there a way to force the speaker to be louder without blowing the speaker?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App

You can use apps like volume+ or dsp manager to increase the volume..

ive noticed that the speaker is a NON free air vibrating one, it requires a surface to reproduce the sound. its not as powerful but even with dsp it will not sound any better it will crackle because its only a 1/2 watt to a watt speaker. try turning the srs wow enhancement off and then on with on table. it does sound like the 4g when on a table. but the phone call loudness is louder on my hardware 0002 with no surface

this is one of the things i seriously miss from the EVO 4G, the damn speaker. it was indeed louder and clearer. i guess that the dual cameras took a lot of space on this device so maybe they were unable to add a better speaker using the same form factor and size.

The speaker is smaller and definetely no as loud as the EVO 4g I had or my iPhone 4 I have no idea why they did this , is nice to watch netfilx on it but the speaker screw it up
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

I used QPST to change the volume from level 2 to level 3. It is noticeably louder and does not crackle.

I changed mine to level 4 and I use PowerAMP to play music with the loudpeaker EQ and it sounds just like my girlfriend's EVO 4G.
I only use loudspeaker for music, so if I'm watching a movie I'd have a headset on so that doesn't bother me that much.

Photon speaker quality?

So I have been looking through the forums and havent been able to find anything on this issue yet. the speaker is really loud on this phone and I like that ans sounds great when playing pandora and stuff but on games and some other programs there is extreme static, you cant hear it all that much when you have the volume up and the phone far away from your ears, but if you put the phone closer you will hear a lot of feedback it sounds like and tons of static I was just wondering if this was normal and other people were having this issue as well or if it was just me. Also if there is a way to fix this and someone knows and help would be appreciated.

Louder and deff crisper sounding

Mine has no such static.
MoPho speaker is far better than the Evo 3d, Evo 4g, and Nexus 4g speakers.
It's the best I have had on any cell phone. Loud and clear, and the speaker phone works well too.

My theory is has his does not incorporate 0 bit muting.

Having been around Motorola for 15 years now, they've always had some of the best speakers and earpieces in their phones. I'm not personally saying other models are bad or anything of the sort, but when I open up a Moto phone, and see those HUGE round familiar speakers, I just know Moto took the time to put some awesome hardware in here.
You've got to remember, Motorola was (and still is) a company that produced and manufactured walkie talkie's from long ago, the audio needed to be heard and that still stands up today. I expected nothing less.
And not only that but the drivers on the circuit board that run that audio are amazing. Case in point, I personally have a headphone amplifier hooked up to my Photon, and it drives and feeds that audio into that amp very well, and sounds crisp, clear, and amazing through it and a $200 pair of headphones I got on sale. Even w/o the amp, listening to podcasts sounds very clear compared to other phone models I've done this with.
If any phone could ever replace a stand alone mp3 player, it would be a Motorola. I'd say it's closer to Cowon quality audio, and anyone who's an audiophile knows Cowon is a top dog in that industry for best sounding audio.
I agree on music and things the audio is great but like CNET TV app you tube and some others I hear the hiss maybe it is just poor audio from the apps them selves oh well not that big a deal just seeing if anybody else was noticing it.

Mine sounds really pretty good, but I have to have it halfway before I really hear anything. At full it is OK, but I think it should be louder. Is there a setting somewhere? Does anyone else think it could be louder still?
So I finally found the answer to my problem it was the audio effects that are under the sound menu that was causing the static it was being over amplified, turning it of made it quieter but still sounded great with no static.

static
I found enabling HAC (hearing aid compatibility) in call settings caused static when I went to speaker and would not go away until I ended the call.
It was bad as I like speaker phone.
Disabling HAC solved the problem.

Beats audio & audio lovers

Anyone who knows car audio or home audio knows what clipping/distortion is...
Some argue the fact that clipping doesn't kill a sub woofer, over powering does...
Well its proven even with proper voltage and rated RMS with a clipped signal can damage your speakers/woofers
I have found both in car audio and home audio "bass boost" does nothing but harm... And with most of the roms running software never intended for our phone (Beats) it CAN do more harm than good...
I have had a minor mishap with using beats enabled on my 3d and my prized car audio
I am not blaming any of the developers for this as its my own fault, but I am warning the general public that dont use a Oscope or any proper tuning method to test gains and home receivers/amps to avoid beats audio at all cost...
This isn't just about the volume that I listen to music, its the quality and for beats audio there is none..
(this isn't for the people with headphones rated at 8ohms +)
This is for people who value there investments weather it be home audio/car audio... The software (beats audio) creates distortion and clipping even at low volumes...
Let this thread die or debate... I can easily get proof when I get over to my friends house with his Oscope

Hey Nate,
Oh man, that sucks. In the end, people will want their beats, lol. My condolences for your car audio system. :-(
Nothing major happened as I properly tune my system with a $2000 oscope but a second longer and all 4 of my Fi audio 15" BL's would have been toast
This isn't to scare (normal?) people who use it for headphones or audio applications that don't require extensive tuning/massive power and money
Just a warning to those who spent a few grand on there audio and can't afford to get it tuned properly....

Hate to be rude, but why did you run beats through your expensive system that already was loud af, beats is like turning the bass all the way up on ur eq... Of course it was gonna f 4 15" woofers up....

I'm not totally sure why people want it.
Beats headphones are, by audiophiles, rated terribly. They do not sound good because they're engineered (poorly) for HipHop.
Naturally, audio tweaks designed for bad headphones will produce bad results.

Obviously I'm not gonna just plug and play with a system like mine... This is food for the people that use there phone to play music off of that have loud ass systems and don't have all the knowledge of what there dealing with...
I've blown enough subs and threw money down the toilet enough to not wanna see people coming in blaming developers because they don't understand what a little distortion/clipping is and how bad it is.. and yeah beats is about the worst thing as it only increases low frequency spectrums on the phones internal eq which intern increases the frequencies that the receiver/radio send to the amp...
Like I said even at LOW volumes (25% of max) it sends a long flat signal... NO GOOD!

Nate speaks the truth
I have loved car audio for years. I have been more of a SQ than SPL person. But, now that I have a family my car audio purchases have really dialed back.
But, in my modest system "Beats" did nothing but add distortion and sound like a$$. It might be good for cheap non powered headphones. But the EQ curve it puts is not natural and really just screws up the sounds. It also causes a lot of distortion.
You might not instantly blow speakers but they will die a premature death. If you want more bass and clearer tweets just buck up. There is no worder app to make you Super Blues sound like JL Audios or your phillips earbuds sound like sienhauser headphones.

Nothing wrong with a 3.5mm jack, it's what you're using to push the audio. Generally phones and tablets don't have the greatest DACs, and I don't think any Android device allows you to send the audio the audio as a line-out/unamplified signal

The amplified signal isn't the problem... Hence why you tune with a Oscope or some other distortion director..
Obviously any audio outup(mp3 player, phones, tablets) is gonna have a amplified signal even if its flat...
It's the fact that even with my 1200 dollar alpine double din adjusting for the major spike in the low frequencies from the "beats" does nothing as it still sends a clipped signal...
(resolution don't use beats)
I'm just warning people in a much smaller spectrum than you think, that uses it to push audio to expensive equipment they don't wanna buy in 2 months after the coils melt... I have to recone my subs once a year to get the scores I want on a termlab... And tune and test and build every year...
Id hate to see people who listen to systems daily make a mistake because they think beats audio enabled will make it that much louder
Funny how every phone I used or eq I used with the phone i could ALL WAYS find a median where there is no clipping signal from the phone,to the deck, to the amp, then to the woofers...
My main argument is beats enabled sends clipping even with proper tuning...
I know some equalizers have a "clipping/no clipping" setting I'm just wondering if the sofware its self is set to distort... Again most people don't care because they use it for headphones...
I mean no offence to anyone... Just figured is throw my findings out there!

Beast Audio

hey,
I don't know how many people cares but i think the sound from the Audio Beat is great. I like the way i can feel the base and sound a lot more clear.
Thumbs up. What ya think ?
i went thru a ton of songs turning beats audio on and then off to compare the sound effects. everything sounds better when beats audio is on. im very happy with it
I agree. I have some studios I'm listening to right now and I didn't notice it at first in the notifications bar it was off then switched it on. I'm also using Poweramp I'm sure that helps also. And oh wow I just realized while typing this the keyboard in the notification bar as well. I was wondering how to change boards without going all the way in the settings lol

sounds good in the car.
was flat before, now its got some audible highs and lows.
isnt beats just an eq adjustment anyways?
would be great if youre just using the builtin media player, but if you got poweramp, you can tweak just the same.
Beats audio is a preferance thing. I hate it because it doesn't make the sound pure. I just buy better headphones, but if you do buy per say over priced and badly equalized beats headphones, then you do need a dsp to make it sound good
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Agreed. Also with most headphones and car speakers you need to minimize the dynamic range so it sounds better. Add a mobile headphone amp and you'll really hear a difference.

Just wanted to add a little more info to the thread. As already stated there is definitely a difference with beats on vs off. Not sure if HTC deliberately made the stock setting flat to emphasize beats although their stock eq was never really great before they added beats anyways. Now to the extra info since no one else posted. There is a built in equalizer that's for some reason not easily accessible unless you were looking for it. If you go to Settings->Sound->Sound Enhancer not only can you change the profile; There are 3, Beats urBeats, Beats Solo, and Other. You can also change the eq from beats to a couple other traditional settings. And no they don't have any custom settings they're all preset. Using a pair of V Moda M80's other was the best profile and depending on what you're listening to you can switch between the different eq settings. Everyone can find what sounds best for them and their setup.

3.5mm Jack Audio low?

I notice that the audio from my aux jack is significantly lower than my old evo or wife's iPhone. Is this normal or do I have a defect?
Audio IS lower
... but not horribly low.
Both the audio out of my 3.5mm jack and the audio out of the speaker are quite a bit lower than my og evo. It's not anything like a deal breaker though.
Wow and I thought it was going crazy for noticing this... I also noticed it when using a bluetooth headset. It's not A LOT lower, but it's definitely noticeable
Sent from my EVO using XDA
It appears that this only happens in 3rd party music apps. Htc's music app sound fine.
There is a noticeable difference when I'm listening to music in the car. It's not so bad when I use headphones.
Music does sound better through BT in my Prius though. I might have to pick up the HTC BT adapter for my other car.
Bluetooth streaming seemed great volume on ford sync but aux cable for my other car is considerably lower than my evo 3D was. I do notice the beats by dre makes it sounds great. I might try installing equalizer and cranking that up will prob help but prob will have to shut the beats by dre off then.
I've always noticed that the HTC phones I've had don't have very loud volumes for headphones. I use earbuds, so it's not an issue for me. Beats does make it louder, but I don't think it necessarily improves the quality of the sound.
I recall reading an article on either Engadget or Ars about what Beats actually does.
I'm experiencing the same issue. Does anyone know of an app or other fix to boost the volume, more specifically for me the volume of the speaker, because it's a little quite when I'm using the Navigation app. I remember a long time ago when I was surfing around, the was a way to over clock the speakers on the EVO 4G but I never needed it or tried it. Let me know if anyone knows anything like this for EVO LTE?
I was also having very low sound compared to my OG EVO. I installed the free equalizer app and have it maxed out(up to 4 for free app) and it does boost the sound a bit. I think you need to have it running in the background all the time which is gonna suck for battery life. If not you have to enable the equalizer every time you want to listen to something which is a pain. Anyone know of an app that will automatically start when music app, GPS etc are turned on?

One thing I had on my G2x because the output was horrifically low, there's an app called volume booster, actually a couple and it's nice because it stays off until you plug in headphones or an aux cable.
I use my auxiliary port on my receiver in my car for audio and calls and have noticed that the sound from my music app (Spotify) is just a bit lower than on my 3D. There seems to be a much bigger difference in the volume for phone calls though. It seems much lower. When I get a call while I'm listening to music, I've got to turn the volume way up in order to really hear anything. When the call ends, I've got to remember to quickly turn down the volume or my music will come back on super loud. Pretty annoying.

Anyone Else With Headphone Buzz

I couldn't believe that I was the only one getting headphone buzz on my beats headphones so I went to the Verizon store and plugged into their floor model and low and behold I got it there too!
I get it real bad on my Beats studio headsets (one's with the battery) and in my car, both on the left. My Beats in ears are not as bad but can hear it sometimes.

I was just kidding around. Buzzing noises with audio tend to be a grounding issue. Not much help with a phone not meant to be taken apart. I would try to exchange it if it persists.
