Can someone explain this to me? I wasn't running nothing unusual in background so i can't understand this problem!
ROM: Cognition 1.40
Kernel: nanphetamine 2.0.5
Thanks in advance!!

Moving to Q&A

A few rogue apps is what this sounds like, identify them and either delete or freeze them with titanium backup.

See what process is hogging the CPU. If it's media, you most likely have a damaged SD card. Had to fix one so I know what a horror it is. If that's the case, just run a bad sector scan from Windows or your OS of choice.

Calibrate your battery.
What temperature does your phone reach? Mention the figure, with your ambient.
Regards.

Hi,
Thank you all for the replys.
The phone was in my pocket and i noticed that it was very hot, and when i tried to turn it on..it doesn't turned..only with battery pull. When I restarted the system the temp was 43ºC and started to cool down.
i wasn´t running any app unusual.
:s

It happened to me 2 or 3 times when I had a game running in the background. But nothing I worry about ^^ Some apps are just crashing I think !

I am experiencing the same problem. But my battery percentage sometimes even drops from 90% to 9%.

I am experiencing the same problem. But my battery percentage sometimes even drops from 90% to 9%.

Uhm..ok...i think i will flash a fresh ROM, wipe batt stats and try to study what is waking and draining my phone...if someone have a suggestion i would appreciate.

Only suggestion is install Better Battery Stats and see what's actually running on background,

@OP: Could you share the results?

You say you're not "running anything unusual" in the background - so say what you are running anyway.
Could be an app someone else has had trouble with, and thus you'll get more help.
More info you give, more help possible. "Nothing unusual" isn't helpful.

application
Mine gets burning hot with net usage without wifi. With wifi there is no problem but with edge or g it gets hot often. Also I have been using xscope pro on hero, samsung galaxy s and now on s2. But this is the first time.
Could it be the radio, modem etc

This problem I believe is caused by UV or undervolting the CPU too much.
I had this problem too. The phone would be working fine even after several stress test (5 min)from setCPU at each and every speed. With continual Quadrant test at each speed after setCPU stress test (3 times continuous). Everything was working fine. Or so I thought....
At times, all of a sudden (randomly) it will freeze and hang without telling you while also heating up in the process because it is stuck at some kind of loop. This is what eats the juice because I believe once it is stuck, it's stuck at the highest speed trying to finish the job (whatever it was).
Sometimes my phone would not wake up for my morning alarm. I would check the phone and to my surprise it would not wake up and had to be turned off and restarted. After checking BetterBatteryStats and CPUspy info, I realized my phone does go to sleep but then it would hang and both software does not tell me what caused it. I just assumed it went to sleep and never woke up or didn't have the juice to wake up. Why not, it happens to people too right ?
After which I decided to fiddling with setCPU. I used the following values and so far so good. Its been 8 weeks now with no craziness.
1600 - 1300mv (I know this is too low to work, i set at this for safety reasons coz I don't use it. But if you're feeling brave 1475 was the setting I believe it worked for me)
1400 - 1275mv
1200 - 1175mv
1000 - 1075mv
800 - 975mv
500 - 875mv
200 - 825mv (I know some use 800mv but encountered one reboot while it was set to 800mv so I stepped it up. So far 8 weeks none at 825mv)
Everything else I did was turn off stuff and checked BetterBatteryStat for which app are doing wakelocks (waking up the phone while it's sleeping) and got rid of those apps and changed them to something else.
After I got my settings set correctly, I'm not experiencing the crazy battery problems and reboot others are getting anymore. I have changed into 3 different ROMs now and 3 different kernels now . All are working fine just had to recalibrate the battery after each ROM flashing.
PS: Please check using CPUspy if your phone is actually going to deep-sleep. If not, try re-flashing and have everything set at stock and try it for 2 days to see if the phone goes into deep-sleep and can wake up properly to do the things it needs. If it can't to go to sleep or wake up, its gotta be hardware related (warranty?).
My rule is, if it works with stock settings and it doesn't on your settings...its not the ROM its you.
Hope this helps people having battery drains and random reboots.
Was on VillainROM 2.4.2 with Ninphetamine 2.04 kernel
Was on Cognition 1.3, 1.4 and its kernel then changed to Ninphetamine 2.05 kernel
Currently on Cognition 1.4.2 with Ninphetamine 2.1.1 Kernel.
Cheers.

safe hot.
It's amazing that peak consumption.
You have not changed the batterystats?

The same thing happened to me on the same kernal.ninpho kernels are set for over clocking and over volting so they can heat up your phone. When i flashed the 2.0.5 kernel my phone went up to 50° and did a factory re-set by itself. If you arnt into over clocking then ninpho might not be a good idea.Ive changed to other kernels after they gave me battery drain and heat problems.

is the battery calibrated?

I had that exact same issue - turned out to be an issue with maps which was linked to CF3d. For whatever reason cf3d crashed maps, which was on a schedule to restart, if I tried to then use navigation the phone would get really hot, then crash. Upon restart the battery was down 50%.
Fixed by doing a full wipe, rom reinstall, and staying away from the EGL beta drivers for cf3d.

[Q] phone gets hot when playing games

when i used my phone to play cricket game within 5 minutes it got hot near the camera and i couldnt continue playing the game. I was totally puzzled. Also when i speak a long call for more than 20minutes of continuous the same heat is felt near the camera. Why is it happening. What is the remedy for this? I really feel bad when it happens
How hot did it get?
Why couldn't you keep playing?
Most likely the temperature isn't hot enough to cause problems but I'm surprised search couldn't help you.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
its is so hot that if u keep on playing you feel that u may burn your fingers placed over the camera region and the heat transfers to the whole unit as well.
might be an idea to underclock to 800mhz
I must say that playing PES2011 or Reckless Racing for ~15 minutes makes SGS2 really hot. Not hot enough to "burn your fingers", but it's still hot. Elixir says that battery temperature after play equals ~41 Centigrades, so the GPU is about ~60, 70 maybe? Can't check it, dunno how.
Does anyone else have that problem?
Same here, i played Order and chaos for about 6 min and it got extremly hot, so i quit and went to set cpu where i saw temperature was 51ºC...
However, i usually have it underclock to 800mhz and theres no heat(max. 31 i think), but i havent tried to play at 800mhz, i always overclock it to 1200 minimum for playing HD games and still do little stops sometimes while playing...

the same problem... but how do i under clock the device and how does that work for me to get out of my heat problem????
If you guys are playing at night time under low light conditions I suggest you get the App screen filter. It reduces the brightness below the lowest brightness settings that the phone can offer. I have noticed a big difference in gaming as my screen doesn't get hot anymore, only the back which is better than nothing.

Same Problem
Same problem here. Phone gets really hot around the front and back cameras, while playing games like RF11 or Asphalt6. Should I return it or flash a custom rom/different firmware. I am on XWKF3.
Same here on gaming..
The maximum battery temperature I've seen was 55 C while charging the battery, a game (Gangasta on message that data was downloaded successfully via Wifi) got stuck in background consuming a lot of CPU (~50%+).
Sorry guys, this phone as a severe design issue and the temperature problem can't be solved. You only can keep the cpu clock down.
He guys,
It's not only with playing games. My phone was doing nothing and the temperature raised (don't now the temp. but very hot) and the phone shut down, and was completely dead. Could not start it up. Could not charge it, because I thought it was empty. After cooling down, I took off the back and replaced the battery and I could boot it again. I was using internet 10 min. before. I think the cpu's where max. and getting hot. This is a serious problem, and I don't want to root my phone to clock down cpu. I am not a gamer so thats not a problem for me. First time this hapened in 1 1/2 month.
I feel realy bad about this. Did it shutdown because of the heat? Is there a safety thing build in? Is it damaged?
I' m wondering how the guys with overclocked devices cope with the heat. I have my phone only 5 days and it already crashed few times while playing games. Once it was getting hotter and hotter and it wasn't responding. i was worried so I had to hold the power button 10 seconds to turn it off. Maybe you(Frank-HTC) had a similar situation but with an app that was working in background?

Update your ROM.
I flashed XXF2 and it does appear to be running comparatively cooler now.
Sent from my galaxy S2
Had a similar issue - the phone used to get quite hot while playing games.
However, Samsung seems to have fixed this issue (at least for SGS2 India users)
I can confirm that updating the stock firmware (KF1) to stock KF3 has solved this. Intense gaming for 2 hours straight, with Wifi and lots of processes running, the phone is only mildly warm.
If you are experiencing this issues, please try backing up your data and updating your firmware via Kies.
My phone doesn't have this issues, I'm using a water-cooling system now.

Battery is at 105.8 F

4.136V as well
What do I do, shut my phone off for a few mins? How do I prevent this and why does it get so high?
UnNamed ROM
During CPU use and/or charging, heat from the CPU also heats up the battery, however at those temps the battery is still safe to use, its not until 120F+ that I would be worried.
Also...a fully charged 3.7V cell phone batter should read 4.2V, so you are still with in the safe limits for that too.

105.8 is not high at all - not even remotely.
4.136v is not high either. Voltage goes up to 4.2 volts near the end of a charge cycle.
105.8ºF is 41ºC. Lithium batteries become damaged at temperatures in the 70ºC range. 158ºF. As stated, charging heats the battery some, and discharging heats the battery some. Provided the battery voltage is less than 4.2V and greater than about 3.1V, this kind of temperature is not a problem.
I noticed mine doing something similar a couple times over the past few days. I would use it for a few minutes to play a game or watch a video, then close that app. The phone would remain extremely hot to the touch and eat through my battery like crazy. After about 15 minutes of it still hot the first time, I went in and killed the entire process for the app I had been using. Then waited for another 30-45 minutes for it to cool off, but it stayed hot as hell. I had to power off the phone completely and it cooled off very quickly.
The second time it happened, I don't remember doing or playing anything graphic/cpu intensive. Just went and plugged in the phone to charge while I slept. I woke up and it was doing the same thing where it was insanely hot to the touch. I left it unplugged for about 30 minutes and it stayed hot. I went in an powered off again and it was cool in under a minute.
So far this has only happened twice in the entire month I have had/used the phone. I remember someone else reporting similar issues before in a different thread as well, but couldn't find it again. I didn't know I could pull the battery's temp so I don't have that info from when it happened. Where did you find that temp? I'll post it the next time it happens. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this other than charging heating up the battery?

Is your phone stock?
Thanks for the code. I'm running UnNamed 1.2.0 at the moment. I might try upgrading to the latest 1.3.1 of it to see if that helps.
I had 44% left on my battery, ran the battery stats code you provided, hit back button, and now the battery shows 16% left. Not sure how that happened in the 10 seconds it took to read the temp.
I'll post the temp when it starts acting screwy again though.
What is your voltage and can you post a screenshot of your battery stats graph? Also if you use setCPU, what profiles do you use.
Current voltage is 3950mV and temp is 36*C. This is under normal operation while charging. I don't use setCPU or do any OC/UV. I am trying to upload a SS of the graph through the app on my phone, but it just keeps saying "Receiving from server" every time I hit submit and then staying at the reply screen. I'll try again once I get home from work.
SS is below.

Do a full charge, at 4.2v of charge pull the battery and let the phone sit there for a few minutes, then plug the phone back in, use BetterBatteryStats to register partial wakelocks and fix things as necessary.

I just had mine drop from 38% to 16% after this as well. This is really screwy. I don't know what's going on but my battery %'s are all over the place when I reboot.
[EDIT] I forgot to come back and mention that after the battery dropped to 16%, it slowly climbed up to around 22% before coming back down again. No reboots or anything, just after waking it up a few times from sleep.

[REF] My phone is getting really hot, how hot is too hot?

A number of people have had their phones get very hot and wonder, how hot is too hot?
The purpose of this thread is to answer that, as well as be a reference that can be linked to for providing a quick answer.
Before anything, download a temperature app so you can see exactly how hot your phone is getting.
Once you have that, continue reading.
People have reported phone temperatures being a hot as 100° f to 110° f (~38°c). That is hot but not that bad. Upper 40's celcius (47°-49° ) is not good. And 50°c is critical And can cause damage, even though 70°c is considered the 'kill' temperature for lithium ion batteries.
There are many reasons this could happen. The majority of people notice it after flashing a custom rom to their phone. This has been reported happening in many forums, not just this one. On the whole, people find that when this does happen after a flash, it usually occurs once or twice, and then does not happen again. There is no clear explanation that I know of that can explain it. It could be the phone 'relearning' or adjusting to the battery. It could be an app that is not working well with the new rom. That is why rom developers will sometimes say to not do a titanium restore on all but your most important apps, and to download the rest from the market. It makes for less chance of an app not working well with the rom.
'Rogue' apps are many times also to blame. A rogue app can be described as a malfunctioning app that is improperly working and as a result causing high CPU activity, which in turn causes the phone to heat up. It also can be a bad app that should be avoided, at least until the issues it has are worked out.
How to fix that is usually on a per phone basis, meaning most cases are unique, and what works for one may not work for another.
There are apps that can help track down the problem app. One of the better known apps is better battery stats.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
Check here for a better explanation of it and how to understand it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
It has also been noted that using internet browsers cause the temperature to rise roughly 10°f (5°c). So if your phone is running hot, stay off the browser, it'll just make it worse.
However, while you're trying to figure out what the problem is, your phone may be overheating, or at risk of overheating. And a quick way to shorten the lifespan of electronic is to be too hot.
The first thing I recommend doing is downloading SetCpu.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking&hl=en
Once you have it, or a similar app, downclock the CPU to 500mhz, at least while charging it, to help keep the temperature low in case an app spikes CPU usage and you're not there to stop it.
Sometimes even flipping the phone so the back is exposed is enough to cool it down.
Keep in mind most electronics have solder that will melt between 120° to 180°c (248 - 356 farenheit). While your phone should never ever get close to that, 50°c pales in comparison. But it can still damage the battery.
I also recommend SetCpu as you can setup a profile for it to run your phone slower when it hits a certain temperature to help keep it cool. As well as sound a notification that it has past that temperature.
Charging your phone will raise the temperature of your battery, it just does. At times it may feel very hot. But again, use an app to see exactly what the temperature is. It's not uncommon for a phone to heat up to over 40°c while charging. Though 39°-42°c is towards the high end of what is acceptable, it's relatively normal for charging temperatures.
For my phone I have a SetCpu temperature profile set at 44°c. I'd rather catch it before it gets even close to bad.
Feel free to post about apps that have helped you to narrow down a problem that is causing your phone to get too hot. As well as any experiences you've had with overheating and the steps you've taken to stop it.
For some reason, I've pinpointed browser use to cause my phone to get EXTREMELY hot. I've tried several different browsers, all with the same result. I will download a temperature app and report back.
UPDATE: I had just been using various apps on my phone for about 30 minutes, and the temperature was at 95 degrees. I then used the browser for 10 minutes and the temperature jumped to 104.
What browser? Dolphin browser has been reported by a few users to cause high cpu use. No cause was pinpointed so far.

Not too hot, but a definite jump. As good as the game looks and as smooth as the gameplay is, I'm sure the temperature will need to be watched as with most high end games. I'll report back if I see any temperature spikes.
Update: played 5 races in a row and got warm, but not too warm, 41°c

Mine has been getting hot lately too. I haven't identified any battery drainers as the cause, but when my phone gets down to around 25% batter lice the phone starts to heat up. Like today, I pulled the battery at around 20-30% because it was getting warm, waited about 10min for everything to cool down, put the battery back in and it was down to 3%. Either something we're running is causing this or there are battery issues starting to develop.

[Q]{Problem found!} Very Big problem wih battery drain

Hello X10 users,
Since very long time I can't leave my phone over the night because the battery is being drained extremely by the phone processes.
I'm currently on TUG ROM with Semc Debrand Engine Kernel.
Ive noticed the problem very long time ago, when I had all apps installed.
Here are some screenshots when I had all of the apps installed. It's the battery usage over night.

So I decided to wipe everything from my phone and leave it clean for the night and that's what came up.
Everything is being drained by deactivated phone. It was in FLIGHT MODE. So what the hell is happening.
To compare. I had my friend's phone, also X10 with completely clean DonutHD 2.2.8 ROM and it had no SIM card. Wen I left it over night the battery drain was NONE. It hasn't even changed for 1%. The diagram was completely flat.
Do You have any explanation for it? Should I try other ROM?
You should try other Rom, I had pretty same problem with ICS roms. So I changed it to MM CM 7.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25086089
And I played with my phone for a while and it was 44% and I woke up and saw 48%.

Your battery drain is bcoz of deepsleep issue....I had also experienced the same issue on TUG rom...
Install cpuspy app and check whether it goes into deep sleep mode or not..
If not, then change the cpu governor and wipe dalvik cache and reboot.

Ok I will let You know tomorrow how the usage states are. For now on I have no Overclocking app so the governor is default (ondemand?).

Have u checked stock rom?
But it looks like theres no deep sleep cause idle drains lot of battery.
Sprawdź na oryginalnym romie GB i standardowym kernelu.

Your battery drain is bcoz of deepsleep issue....I had also experienced the same issue on TUG rom...
Install cpuspy app and check whether it goes into deep sleep mode or not..
If not, then change the cpu governor and wipe dalvik cache and reboot.

Deep Sleep works just fine. Now the battery usa was bettery, but still not the best. I don't know where the problem is.

was the phone in airplane mode for this time? if not the drain is due to having no signal.
Pvy.
Best bet is to flash new rom and kernel

Yep, I was also thinking about it. I made a thread about battery I'm interested about, but no answers. It is a gold one 2430mah.
What do You think about it?
here's the thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879363

Already tried. Sometimes it just uses so much battery and sometimes the drain stops. Don't know what's wrong
Think its time for a new battery

The battery drain can be caused by many reasons:
+ runninh apps in bg: some apps just dare to run while phone should sleep (over night ), like facebook, it seems to run all the time (a reason to delete it and use fast for facebokk or whatever), others like googelmail or weather refresh all five minutes.... Solution: delete all apps you dont need, or set that actualisation rate.to as minimal as possible, you can download zdbox, its a great tool, with it you can set that all apps get shutdown when you lock your screen.
+ it could also be caused by a deep sleep problem (i also had it sometimes, appears after installing a new rom or flashing sonetging without wiping, or whatever i am no expert), that means that your phone doesnt go into deepsleep when you shut the screen down, and the cpu runs on in 128mhz, what costs lots of batttery.... proof this theory by downloading cpuspy, and look after one night how much it was in deepsleep, if its less deepsleep than 128, you have a deepsleep problem, fix it by wipin cache partition and dalvik, then set another governor and reboot
+ could be caused by the phone searching for the best signal, thats the thing on my phone that causes most battery drain (~35%), its just the phone searching for a gokd signal, if thats away, it searchrs and searches all the time - costs massively battery. I your diagramm it should be called mobilestandby (by the way, the curves in signal diagramm are an indivator for unstable signal) (something like that) for solution there is a free app in the market, called battery saver (you will find more than one app, look in description, there should be mentioneđ this problem)
+ Could be a big poisoned mixturw of all these reasons....
I recommend you to try all those solutions (maybe try cpuspy first, im sure its that reason)
It could also be that your phobe just f*cked up like mine, i am having hard battery drain while using my phone (7%lost only by writing this article hope for you thats its another thing)

Thanks for Your reply but I already found a problem. The battery is just f*cked up. I've changed it with my friend and everything was normal.
Now I only have to buy a new one

My Rezound Extended Battery Results *26hrs Use*

Well since I love getting into technical results with this Rezound since I got it, I'm pretty much really late to the game with this phone. My Thunderbolt took a crap on me during deployment and I've been spending the last 2-3 weeks working on it here and there to make it the best battery life for my OWN personal usage.
People may say *Oh dur turn on 4G* I know 4G eats battery, but where I'm at, I get very very spotty signal, Most I use is 3G sending MMS. I keep data off all day since I just text.
Since I get spotty signal, obvious answer is my phone will use more battery for itself. I'm am well aware of this. I have most of the stuff memorized I have done to this phone, rom wise, build.prop, Kernel Tweaker etc. So if you have any questions about what I've done just ask me. It's hard enough to search through a ton of threads and get VERY VERY vague answers. Seems like it's been like this since I jumped on the HTC Inc back in the day

I did take these with my camera because screenshot didn't wanna work properly with me so I just grabbed my camera and shot the pics off. If anyone wants me to post my usuage from yesterday via battery_stats I can.
EclipticRez 5.2.1
Funky v2.3, S2W disabled.
The best results I've found in regards to battery life is with using Kernel Tuner and giving each processor core a different governor (cpu0 Badass, cpu1 Conservative) and underclocking and tweaking some settings in MPdecision. Also, turn off auto-brightness. Take it to around 35-40% and just leave it there.
I also leave LTE on at all times, but I also use WiFi wherever available.
Granted, I don't have my extended battery (yet - just ordered one earlier in the week), but I finished yesterday with 17 hours and 2 hours and a few minutes of screen on time. That's just with the standard 1620 mAh battery.

Well I will defiantly try that out, I was also using auto the whole day since I was constantly inside/outside when the sun was blaring.
What are your current MPDecisions in Kernel Tweaker?
Also in Kernel Tweaker, does it not sometimes load your settings for the CPU? I heard it was kernel related and not ROM related. Sometimes my CPU0 would stay at 1080MHz where I set it at but CPU1 would reset to 1.5Ghz

Mine jumps back up to 1.5 on CPU1 as well, but that's a non-issue. Set it to Conservative. Make sure that the minimum is set at 384 MHz for each core. Otherwise it will just start jumping around (at least, that's what happens to me). I don't know if it's exactly kernel related, though. I was able to run Funky 2.4 on a Sense 4 ROM (Newt's OneXxX 6.0.2, I think) and cpu1 stick, though.
MPdecision:
Service Start Delay: 10000 ms
Pause: 10000 ms
Threshold Up - Load: 40 ms
Threshold Up - Time: 450 ms
Threshold Down - Load: 5 ms
Threshold Down -Time: 250 ms
Idle Frequency: 192

Thanks. Ya that's what I just set it too. I was using dancedance on both cores when I posted up the screen shots. Will see how it goes for the most of the day. Yesterday I sent out almost 300 texts maybe or more so that was a majority of screen time with 3 different people to say the least.
Oh and another anomaly I can't quite figure out. Some days my phone only pulls less than -100mA and then only ~-20mA on average in screen off sleep. Now today instead of doing the same thing yesterday, todays average has been more near ~ -280mA+ with screen off sleep
I have changed nothing on the phone. Did a restart, no change. Shut phone down completely, pull battery and reboot and still the same result. And even when people ask me what my wakelocks are, I post them and then no one knows what they are nor can I find documentation on the software itself.
did u tried to check it with gsam battery to see what drain or what waking up the phone ?
Try uninstalling some memory intensive apps and reinstall them. Sometimes restored files, for me, just need to be reinstalled.
Also, I just received my extended battery and I'll see how far I can go with it.
How has your phone been doing since the new settings?
