1.70.605.0 ???? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using 1.70.605.0 ota rooted deodexed and busybox so that my thunderbolt doesnt reboot anymore. I know that we are waiting for source code so that the devs can write some new kernels for this update. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to overclock my thunderbolt why I wait.

Unfortunately not. Hopefully they'll release the source code soon.

Yes! Hopefully soon

I think froyo is pretty dead. There's been 2 solid releases of it and nobody has really touched it. We have 2 sense kernel devs and one builds his to follow the other's source tree. Not to mention none of them are current and functional with the latest gingerbread leak. The bulk of their work is now AOSP. Unless you're up to stripping Ziggy kernels from synergy or Chingy ROMs, you're kinda screwed. Sorry, but I just don't see a froyo source release as something any dev currently is going to embrace.

gingerbread
So are most people using gingerbread? Also, how stable is gingerbread compaired to froyo?

How is it possible that Evo has 2.3 ported

Before the galaxy s? Is there any hope for a pure gingerbread and it looks like the evo is off and running with it smooth as butter with a minor hitch with gps issues... not sure how that works, the galaxy s and nexus s are almost identical hardware wise.

Looks like a lot of their roms are AOSP (Android Open Source Project) based. This means they can take the direct source of Android and modify their roms to the Evo hardware. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe anyone has built a good solid working rom for the Vibrant off of the AOSP source alone. We've been getting builds leaked from Samsung and modifying them to build the Vibrant roms you see now. I believe Team Whiskey is working on a AOSP rom and Cyanogen Mod is an AOSP rom that they are working on porting over to Vibrant. Master/Devs4Android released an AOSP clone. I believe someone else said they have Gingerbread working and they are just bug fixing at the moment.

Thanks for the insight mate, appreciate it. Just interesting.

I would venture to say that the Evo is usually the first phone to have this stuff ported to it. It's a high demand phone to get the best ROM's on so it usually gets them first. Don't get me wrong, I love my Vibrant, and so does Team Whiskey so they're working on 2.3, they have it ported but it's experimental still, they'll let us know when it's working. But as far as CyanogenMod goes, they usually port to the Evo first.
Where is the download link for this rom? When I search "Evo 2.3" I don't get any vibrant roms.
Silly developers forgetting links
</sarcasm>
also keep in mind, once the Vibrant 2.2 source is put out the devs will have easier time porting 2.3 also
How's the battery life on this rom? Can I flash it with clockwork mod? Do I have to disable voodoo?

Mooseberrypie is the best Rom for the Vibrant hands down. I hear they'll get honey comb running soon! haha brilliant.
Mooseberrypie bricked me. Anyone want to sign my Class Action Lawsuit petition? I have a lawyer, I promise
How is 2.2 source going to help with 2.3 code? That's like saying 2.1 source for our kernels helped us build a 2.2 build for our hardware.

Its funny when the witty comments just arent witty anymore.. i told my friend id get a bunch of trolls saying stuff like "does this wipe sd card" "do i need to disable voodoo"... its really old now, first person that ever did it got a chuckle... but i do agree that having 2.2 code prolly wouldnt help too much being its a porting...

What about my (soft bricked my pants joke )is that still good or?.....
simple answer is that its an htc phone, htc releases everything for their phones while samsung does not, though honestly I prefer my Vibrant to my G2

Android 2.3.3 development?

I'm aware a lot of people are using the 2.3.4 version of android now, but does 2.3.3 development cease to exist now? I mean, I'm aware its not the latest version to date and all that, but hey.. we do have the kernel source for it. I'm not trying to say HEY DEVS. DO THIA FOR ME NOW!!! But I've just been wondering this for a while, have we reached the limits of 2.3.3 yet?

You miss the ''not'' before the caps. Now it really does look like you're demanding it.
I think it'll be released soon, so that's why they stopped.

I may be completely dense, but I wonder the same exact thing. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to develop an AOSP ROM from the 2.3.3 kernel source we already have?
(Tell me if I'm absolutely clueless, please, so at least I'll know.)

AOSP is whatever version that Google releases, as they update the Android versions,.... So, yes, we may be on 2.3.5 now, but there CERTAINLY was a 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM out there prior to this release.
Sent from my Evo³d
actually aosp is now 2.3.6
think of it like this if we stayed with 2.3.3 and the kernel source for 2.3.4 was released we would have to redo everything anyways...think of this as us getting a head start
If you want to live in the past, try ViperRom. It's a great ROM but still on the old base.
Well this is obsolete now

So are most devs waiting for the rezounds ics ota to leak or are some working on porting ics from the sensation leak and or the nexus? I know it will be a while, but was just wondering if anyone knew anything.

I think Dmeadows started on porting the ICS leak from the Sensation but not sure if he is still working on it.
Rezound is scheduled to get the OTA update soon based on what HTC said.

We don't have a kernel to run it. You can port sensation gingerbread for example because we have a gingerbread kernel. I am also not sure how it would work out with the larger screen resolution.
Not that I talk to the devs, but I'm guessing if you want everything to be working, it's best to wait for the manufacturer to release the compatible files/drivers/etc instead of trying to hack things together because it just gets messy and nothing will work that well. I'm guessing once HTC releases the official ICS build you'll see AOSP ports shortly after.

Not trying to be ungrateful but..

The thunderbolt development has been on hold for months now... I run Liquid 3.2 with the imo kernel and it really is amazing. Like anyone else though I want more. Is it just me or is Team BAMF being selfish? How could they release a ROM without the RUU? I am grateful towards them but the truth is after being a sense fanboy for ever and finally giving AOSP a chance I will never look back. I tried the leak and it just brought back old angry memories. The lag to me is unbearable for a 1ghz 768 mb phone with ICS. I am sure the desensed version is better but here is my real question. Can AOSP developers start working on AOSP roms without the RUU? And do you guys think we will have any good AOSP roms untill the kernel source is released?
The only reason why I think I can be totally wrong right now is...if BAMF was being selfish why wouldn't they release the new radio? Unless they didn't update the radio I can't see a reason as to why they would hold back.
I just really can't wait for an official legit Liquid ICS AOSP rom with a new imo kernel build from source no de-compiling.
Is there anything about what I am saying that is wrong or doesn't make sense?

Not necessarily a noob but far from an expert... I posted this is q&a because I am looking for answers not to be judged..
They held back because it was a test build from April. I bet there isn't a new radio or hboot with the test as it was a test. I also would put money down that the reason the build is so laggy is because it is a test. If you're worried about the lag and want a functioning ics rom then I don't understand why you haven't flashed liquid ics. Everything works and I have used it as a dd since they got data working with it.

Yeah I did see that liquid rom... would you say that rom is anything as smooth as liquid 3.2 GB? Also I did not know that the leak was a a test build from April...that is crazy.
thanks for the info!
Where the heck did the Liquid ICS rom with working data go?
The build date in there is listed as April. I haven't tried liquid 3.2 as it was based on an old version of cm7 so I can't compare to that but it is smoother than any rom I've used on the tbolt to date.

i havent checked in the RUU if there is new radio(s) in it, but often times RUU's are not released at the request of the leaker
they're more identifiable than a rom made off of them, and the debug/tracking apks are removed from roms made from them
for the inc2 i was asked to remove the debug apps from the rom before releasing, and that would not be possible in the RUU
no one is entitled to anything either way....someone gave files to a certain individual/group in the hopes they would do whats best for the masses with it...if the leaker felt that everyone would benefit from releasing the RUU, it would have happened
there is nothing file wise that is a RUU and not a rom made from it that would benefit aosp anyway....all the bins/libs and associated files are the same
theres no *magic* in there....kernel source code is the most important thing in that area

Worse come to worse, do a Nandroid and flash a few ICS builds to try them out. If you don't like it restore back. I see some posts of people using Liquids ICS as a DD. Might be worth trying. I personally am waiting this weekend to see if anything else gets released just to get some kinks out due to the fact I use my phone for work and need the functionality of my phone. Liquids ICS is not based off of that leak from Teambamf and hopefully now that the leak has come out they may find it useful to perfect their Rom a bit more.
Again thanks to all the Devs for all the hard work they do!
Currently using Thundershed 1.6. Zoom Kern.
I use liquid ics as my dd and I have no issues yet.

After looking, it clearly states.
-Based off of the leaked ICS Sense 3.6 update from Team BAMF
Now that this is an OFFICIAL it should run much better.

The only part of my Sense 4 rom from the leak is the kernel and firmware.
The rest of the Sense 4 build is obviously not from the leak, as the leak was not Sense 4 based.
Completely different framework and rom.
NuSense was based off the leak, NuSenseX, not so much.
Yes they will all be getting updated with whatever new good parts the official has to offer.
But those good parts will likely be the radio, the ril, and the kernel, that's about where the newness will end for the most part.
As most anything I've built to date has had newer base stuff incorporated, which is as new as anything we will see in this update.
So basically this new OTA will give us new kernel, new radio, new ril.
Those 3 things alone could make a huge difference building custom roms moving forward.
The rest of it, not so much, they can keep their diagnostic crapola and all the rest of it.
The biggest bonus, will be when we finally have source code for custom kernels.
