Android 2.3.3 development? - HTC EVO 3D

I'm aware a lot of people are using the 2.3.4 version of android now, but does 2.3.3 development cease to exist now? I mean, I'm aware its not the latest version to date and all that, but hey.. we do have the kernel source for it. I'm not trying to say HEY DEVS. DO THIA FOR ME NOW!!! But I've just been wondering this for a while, have we reached the limits of 2.3.3 yet?

You miss the ''not'' before the caps. Now it really does look like you're demanding it.
I think it'll be released soon, so that's why they stopped.

I may be completely dense, but I wonder the same exact thing. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to develop an AOSP ROM from the 2.3.3 kernel source we already have?
(Tell me if I'm absolutely clueless, please, so at least I'll know.)

AOSP is whatever version that Google releases, as they update the Android versions,.... So, yes, we may be on 2.3.5 now, but there CERTAINLY was a 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM out there prior to this release.
Sent from my Evo³d

actually aosp is now 2.3.6

think of it like this if we stayed with 2.3.3 and the kernel source for 2.3.4 was released we would have to redo everything anyways...think of this as us getting a head start

If you want to live in the past, try ViperRom. It's a great ROM but still on the old base.

Well this is obsolete now

[Q] Android Gingerbread 2.3

Well, being in the community, I suppose everybody here knows a decent amount on this subject now. Just out of curiosity, any estimates on how quick this can be ported to our beloved Droid Eris'?
i believe Gingerbread is 3.0... and how can something be ported that hasn't been released?
my estimate... 1 year
-------------------------------
also, for future reference, this should be in q&a section (it will save you from the burning flames)

u may be right ,, but i believe ive seen GB being referred to as 2.3 and 3.0 lol
It's pretty much 99% confirmed that gingerbread is 2.3.

I've been seeing it referred to as both 2.3 and 3.0 on other tech sites, for the most part I am seeing Gingerbread referred to as 2.3 and Honeycomb as 3.0. Either way it doesn't matter. Who cares what number it's assigned, it doesn't change the fact that Tenzo is right about not being able to port something that hasn't been released.
Now if we can just get ahold of a leak for the N1.... Then maybe you guys can start porting it! Anyone know someone that works for Google? LOL
ill wait for android ice cream
ahh, then my apologies on code #'s. been more than a month since i've even cared to read about Gingerbread... and now i've seen they've completely gone OB and changed all that up.
in any case, is there really 2 different threads about this now? did google drop something in the oven and everyone is smelling something that i'm missing?
cornbread, gingerbread, gingersnaps...
my theory... if they release, it will come
Eh, call me when they release the 5.0, Rum Cake.

[Q] ICS question for Atrix.

Hello, I have an Atrix rooted with an unlocked bootloader, running Faux's Enhanced stock kernal. I was just wonder how I would upgrade when/if ICS comes to the Atrix. Would you SBF to 2.3.4 stock and OTA rom there, or is a Fruitcake option possible? I was just wondering, because I am determined not to brick this phone...hopefully ever.
When that moment comes, we all know what to do, don't worry.
Its still a while away for that, the source isn't even released yet.

no, the SDK was released. this doesn't equal the source for ICS.
the SDK for Honeycomb was released, but the source was never released. that's why we've never seen a honeycomb version of Cyanogenmod; as long as the SDK is all we have we won't be able to get a completely stable port of ICS out on any device

[Q] Donut/Cupcake on SGS2?

I'm not even kidding, I was wondering if it was possible to compile a donut rom from source that would work on this device. I was going to post in development, because this question is related to development, but I'm going to post in Q&A just to be sure. cupcake would also be fine I guess.

just as you said, just for kicks really I just want to do it.
I imagine the two deal breakers to overcome are compatible bootloaders and functioning kernel.
I know on older devices as 2.2 got upgraded to 2.3 some required updated bootloaders. I imagine there's a way around it, but going 3 to 4 generations back has to in some way play a role with bootloader compatibility.
Kernel should be possible. From how I understand, ics is ported to our phones by using a patched kernel.

I know that you have to update your bootloader... but is it backwards compatible? I used the same hboot version to boot gingerbread and froyo on my inspire when i had it. I wonder if the rom just has to be made and the kernel that we're using now could be backwards compatible.

[REQ] Stock 4.0.1 Rom Not CM

I'm not asking for CM9 but just a 100% stock AOSP 4.0 Rom. I know there maybe issues due to HTC not releasing 100% of the Source code for Amaze with the WiFi Drivers left out though...
But just a stock rooted 4.0 Rom. No sense [email protected] included.
i will work on it btw keep these req in the general starting to get out of hand

Very grateful for your work Xboarder. I wish I knew how to do all of this stuff so I could help, but hopefully some more devs will pick this phone up soon and help out. Unfortunately, the Nexus will be stealing the thunder here pretty soon.

I couldn't agree more, don't really understand why work continues on Gingerbread. With the release of ICS Roms, it will be as quickly forgotten as Froyo.
Hoou , froyo is still not forgotten about . My #PNoc ROM for my other phone is running on froyo because we never got a GB update , I love the amaze build that's the only reason I'm keeping It I hate sense

I'm buying a new battery today hopefully for the amaze , i miss it so much .
Thank you XBoarder for your efforts.
I have to say I dont know whats involved (wish I did) in terms of whats needed but Im not sure why development wouldnt fully be dedicated to 4.0.
Im assuming its because you are alone and it may be wiser to let the CM team go at it then base a ROM off that way ?
Regardless glad youre around.

[Q] So is anyone workin on a ICS rom?

I see all these devices getting ICS, hell even vibrant and captivate have a port, and the only 2 threads i saw that mentioned ICS being worked on, are no longer active in development, so whats the deal? ICS themes are cool and all but theme is a theme, i want the full ice cream goodness. Is there anyone currently working on a 4.0 ROM?
Yes, multiple devs are currently working on a port. I believe codeworx is getting very close.

i'm not flaming although it will probably look like I am - why are people so impatient about ICS? I have never seen so many "where's ICS?" threads compared to the Gingerbread update, for example.
I agree however you can't blame android enthusiasts for being overly excited about the release of ics. Although gingerbread was a great release, ics is much more of a major release because of it basically merging gingerbread with honeycomb, making it unlike any other android release to date.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
They're working on it with the I9100.
Personally, I'm waiting until there's a kernel source drop for the Linux 3.0.9 kernel for I9100 ICS - I'll start porting work then.
ICS ports based on 2.6.35 are interim hackjobs.
(yes, 3.6.35 was a typo)

Because it's been a year since GB.
Not trying to sound impatient, I was following a couple deb's and saw that they had stalled/stopped development and couldn't find any other threads with active ics development. More curious to see if it's being worked on or waiting for my leaks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
More leaks*
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Mainly waiting for more leaks - It's luck of the draw whether a device's vendor-proprietary libraries will work with ICS or not.
They apparently got lucky with the I9000/Captivate, not so lucky with the I9100.
You have to keep in mind that it is EXTREMELY rare for there to be an AOSP device bringup to be completed in any reasonably functional form before an official vendor firmware for a given device (or at least a very similar device) becomes available.

Um, NO. Your wrong. 2.6.35 was a kernel for gb, and he was saying that all these ICS ports are coming with hacked gb kernels, they aren't even being released/leaked with the "real deal" ICS kernel.
