I was just wondering how I could root a Bell Samsung Galaxy S II.
I've read some threads but I don't have any idea what they're talking about, so I was wondering if anyone could simplify it for me so that I can understand.
Thank you!
I personally use latest Speedmod, depending on the firmware you're running you can also use the specific ChainFire kernel as well.

If I used this method to root, would I still be able to install custom roms?

Yes you will be able to run custom roms. Generally speaking nothing is permanent on these phones. A kernel sits a layer below the ROM but most roms will also install their own kernel.
I'm sorry for bumping this thread, but I thought it'd be better to bump this one, rather then creating a new thread about my question.
I was wondering what the method is of reversing the rooting on the SGS II Bell.

So in the 5 hours between posting your question and bumbing your thread, you didn't manage to find out what a custom ROM is and how to install it?
Try the stickies, for example, [REF] Guide to the Galaxy S II and Android (04/10/11) which links to [REF] ROM, Kernel, Kitchen & Modem List - Galaxy S II (22/10/11).

If i use cf root to root my galaxy s3 i9300 will i be able to flash a custom rom? It says that the cf root was intended to be used with stock firmware in the main thread. Also how safe is it? If i follow the steps exactly as instructed what are the chances the phone will brick?
Thanks

Yes you will.
It means it is meant to be used to root a stock Rom, after that you can do what you like. Cf root is extremely safe if you follow the instructions, which are very simple. If you do that you won't brick your phone

Thanks for your quick reply. I have one more question though. Does it matter that my phone is locked and carrier branded? I always thought it had to be fully unlocked and unbranded to root and stuff. Thanks!

No, you only need to unlock if you want to use a different network, won't affect it otherwise
My question is after rooting and not changing anything else will you still be able to get the updates. I remember with the bionic I cou ld but not with the tbolt.
are you carrier branded as in US Carrier branded or something else?
If you're talking about a US Carrier branded phone, then you're in the wrong place. This is specifically for the i9300, not any other version. There are appropriate forums for your specific phone.
If you do have the i9300, then do as slaphead says. you're all set.

Oopsie daisy.... I could've sworn I read the whole thread from start to end.. Not sure how I missed that..
I think the word "carrier branded" set of red flags in my head since I was only recently reading about someone who tried to flash an i9300 rom with their sprint s3.
just wanted to make sure and not have to see another brick.

Hey everyone, total noob here.
I've got a i9300T, and was wondering what the best root method is. Everyone seems to have a different opinion, and I trust you guys. I'm just planning on getting rid of a mountain of bloat-ware and maybe flash in the future.
So question: What's the best method to root my beloved phone?
Cheers

there are no differences, same phone, just different modem, which again you even can use I9300 modems (got the I9300T myself), which does not mean you should not read
CF-Root is the easiest way with Odin, after that I find Mobile Odin the most practical.

I thought that the main difference was the ways in which the T preferentially treated the 850mHz band. I wasn't aware that it would make a difference to the root process

A iPhone or a Nokia 3310 would be more suitable for you since its obvious you cant even understand how to read advice, use a search button or read guides so would be completely lost when it comes to flashing devices.

Why are you also ignoring all the answers that are given above, just to fill up your thanksmeter? Answering this is just as bad as asking these questions, because you allow people to be lazy and to skip following the rules.

Hello
So i just wanted to make a small and clear thread where newbies like me can come and check the most common answers.
Okay so my questions are -
I am Running 2.3.6 Gingerbread Stock on my i777
I bought this phone second hand so i dont know about the past of this phone. Also i bought this phone is US and then came to India.
My Phone -
Stock Kernel - i777UCKK6
Stock Rom - 2.3.6 - Gingerbread
I've read that many people are having problems on galaxys2root.com and have even bricked their phone by Installing wrong kernels.
So can you please tell me which Kernel i should flash ?
And which rom should i flash ?
Also will Flashing a new rooted ROM on my phone Lock my phone with At&t ?
Search and read.

It's best to stay away from that site entirely. The site developer has multiple similar sites for many different phones, and apparently does it for the money, and is not really very good at helping people. Also, while he is a developer, his products sometimes, as you mentioned, cause severe problems.

It's best to make your own choice. The best roms are available on these xda forums. If you don't like the first one you try, you can always switch.

Some of the JellyBean based roms will. SHOstock3 will. Most of the others won't. If that happens, you can unlock it again for free with GalaxSim Unlock, as long as you download it from the developers thread and not purchase it on the market.

Hey, why don't you read Creepy's stickies for once? It's got everything you need. Without reading the stickies you won't follow the tips properly even if someone spoon feed you.
Hi Creepy, thanks for the wonderful tutorials. I have an unlocked 777 and rooted with that stickies only.
On a side note, ShoStock 3 will not cause loosing the unlock status for every devices. I haven't lost my unlock status after flashing ShoStock 3.
