How to get higher Quadrant scores (Better Performance) - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the HTC Thunderbolt running Synergy 8-12-11 build themed with the Dark Horse 8-12 based theme. I've seen many people post Quadrant scores well over 2000. Im curious, how can I achieve this with my device running the Rom im running. I was thinking that O'cing would be part of this, but im not familiar with how that works. If anyone knows how I can achieve better performance and a higher Quadrant score, I would love the help. If O'cing and messing wit the governor is part of this process, can you direct me to a thread that gives a thorough explanation of the process. Im sorta new to that aspect of the rooted phones. I've seen some of the apps and settings but don't know how to use them.
Thanks in advance.

First, understand quadrant scores have nothing to do with the phones performance, a high score does not mean that the phone has better performance.
Second, remember the first rule.

Benchmarks are dandy tools for comparing different software... nothing more. nothing less. What is being measured is of questionable relevance though. You're running a ROM with Ziggy's "world-famous" kernel... That leads me to believe Ziggy's website might shed a LOT of light on the subject of tweaking his kernels. I'm gonna suggest you Google ol' Ziggy471 and wrap your brain around what that old man has to offer.

My quadrant score with how I have my phone set up right now is only 1339. Now people would say that is horribly low for the phone, and terrible. For a "benchmark score" it is pretty bad, but that doesn't tell how well a phone actually performs in the "real world"

Carat - Battery Saving App

An interesting new app from UC Berkley. Might be helpful for anyone experiencing battery drain issues.
http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/14/carat-battery/
will try
For those that are trying out the app, report back in a week or so and share your results. Let's see if we can learn something!
I'm using it. Started yesterday. Trying very hard not to flash another ROM until then.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
i will try it thanks
I've been using for over a week now, but it has only reported 21 samples. Still says nothing to report under every tab. Will try a few more weeks and hope for some results. If it weren't for the low battery life, my phone would be almost perfect!
I've got 278 samples recorded and still nada. I'm suffering from poor battery life too. I assume because I am running a beta ROM. But I thought I'd see if app this can help.
Edit:
Update from the Play Store description:
"Due to Carat's sudden popularity, it is taking longer than usual to generate personalized reports. Please be patient with us; we promise to generate results for you soon! "

Just stop worrying about benchmarks. They're pointless. They can be skewed by random stuff, so they don't mean much. If your phone is running just as smoothly or smoother, then what does a number matter?

Maybe it says something comparing scores between different clock speeds on the same ROM, but even the same ROM on two different phones will give different scores. Comparing benchmarks with other people is definitely a pissing match.

Hmmm. I don't go buy a pc without researching the benchmarks. I might be using an amd chip had I not looked at the benchmarks of the Intel chips in comparison. I don't suspect our phones and the chips we have in them are any different. There has to be certain tests that prove a chip's performance. There's always a game or function that can push a chip to it's limits, and some of us want to know what those limits are.

I was about to say that score is pretty bad... but then I noticed you aren't on a GNote.
Benchmarking serves a purpose, surely. But real world experience trumps sheer numbers (within reason). For instance, S4 versus Tegra 3. Both excel at certain benchmarks, but in reality, both are great.
Where benchmarking is f'in retarded is when someone *****es that they scored a 6200 and joe schmoe scored a 6250...and they are pissed.

Ahh, but that's why we need a benchmark program that's not fooled by the rom. Pc's have them. Aren't our phones merely small pc's?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I know....a benchmark program built into the recovery mode software, so you could test the chip outside of the rom. That is a good idea. That way the test won't be skewed by widgets and background processes. Although I do like to know how much improvement comes from my overclocking.

Its quadrant for Christ sake. When has this app ever been uaed for real world benchmarking?!. No benchmarking application can compare to real life usage. If its smooth in real life, who cares what Quadrant says???

the only validity of benchmarking is for you to compare your phone when flashing between roms, and that is dubious at best,.......don't worry about them, gauge your phone on how it feels

Benchmarks are a tool that run a series of tests no more no less . Phones and software/ apps/ firmware vary their is no true test as no phone is the same .
Suggest if you are not happy with your score .
one backup data and factory reset the phone .
still not happy return to seller/ service center

for me I don't care about the benchmark mark at all
even you get the highest score did you very happy about it ?
and just enjoy your phone, don't think so much
Every single phone performs differently and its due to manufacturing. Also hot/cold temps can effect performance. Generally, the colder your device is the better.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Technically, your phone and your friend's should have the same firmware since you're probably in the same country. And this means that your benchmark scores should be quite similar. A 1200 point difference is a bit too much.
So in short, there might actually be cause for concern.
I would suggest that you wipe everything and see if it still persists. But if your phone performance is unaffected, you could just as well ignore it.

Quadrant scores

I see all over the place people posting their Quadrant scores. Now of course everyone wants their phone to run fast as possible..but my question is does these scores mean anything.. I have been running meanrom and his scores ate the fastest I have seen.. they have been going down over the past few updates and he does nit want to pur in some tweaks I would like so I decided to try out other rims.. most were pretty unimpressive and gave quadrant scored slightly lower but not too much. All these tons were based on the new kernel. I looked at viper and on paper it looked impressive. Once installed I coukdnt quite get it to do all it advertised but it has all the tweaks I want and so it would be nice to run. Now I run quadrant and it is 1000 less than mean. I suspect most of that is due to viper being on the old kernel. But here is the kicker.. I really do not see where my phone is any slower. One would think a drop if 1000 would be noticeable.. was just wonder what you guys think of this.. in the meantime I am going to see what the battery life on this Rom is.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Quadrant scores don't equal performance. There was a phone that lg made that at the time blew away all phones in quadrant and it wasn't due to raw power, it had dual channel memory, over all performance wasn't so good
Quadrant has nothing to do with the performance of the phone, its easily manipulated...there was a dev on the 3d forums a while back that did just that...everyone swore his Rom ran best because the quandrants were so high, but it was a placebo affect...
