[Q] [q] moto defy eclair to froyo update-asia - Defy Themes and Apps

Just bought a brand new Defy with Android 2.1 on eBay, I desperately want an update but I am new to this and I am not techy at all. I don't know anyone who owns a Defy here in our country, atleast not personally so if my phone ever breaks, I'm dead. Any advice/suggestions? Would greatly appreciate it!

Just search for an update in about menu
Or get motos update software google it...

hi there!
i'm using defy and is running on a froyo. i checked this http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/support/update/# and it has already motodefy on the list for philippines. i chose singapore before since around that time, motodefy update for philippines wasn't available.
don't worry, the update won't kill your phone. just follow all the instructions.
good luck!
http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/support/update/#

I have this German friend who said:
"you have to do a factory reset the best before and after the update
and then google navigaiton always crashed
and i had to do some complicated modifications to the kernel to make it running again fine
maybe you are more happy if you leave it on 2.1
the main froyo bugs are:
google maps will hang your phone after a while of using
this is hard to fix !
voice quality is a bit worse"
Any suggestions? Thanks btw, the link was very helpful

When I ran Moto Software Update, this appeared:
'check whether the specified hotfix exists in the target computer
strComputer = "."
Dim HotfixFound :HotfixFound = ""
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" _
& strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colQuickFixes = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select * from Win32_QuickFixEngineering")
For Each objQuickFix in colQuickFixes
If objQuickFix.HotFixID = "KB941600" Then
HotfixFound = "HOTFIXFOUND=1"
Exit For
End If
Next
'install the msi and set the HOTFIXFOUND property
'the name of the customer Propery must only include upcaseletters.
Set oMSI = CreateObject("WindowsInstaller.Installer")
' set the UI level to full level
oMSI.UILevel = 5
' launch the installer and disable the error display during the vbs
script execution
On Error Resume Next
oMSI.InstallProduct Wscript.Arguments(0), HotfixFound
On Error GoTo 0
' clean up used ObjectVars
Set oMSI = Nothing
What is that ><

i had done my defy upgrade to froyo from eclair. i did it thru motorola upgrade kit which above link is direct you to install in your pc 1st, then follow instruction, very easy.
the only thing is, it crash with certain 3rd party app especially like Launcher/Home Screen 3rd party SW. so you need to do factory reset after upgraded to Froyo.

[Guide] Unlocked HTC Windows Phones Get NoDo Right Away

"Chris Walsh, member of the ChevronWP7 team has posted a workaround on its blog letting carrier-branded HTC users emulate a non-branded Windows Phone 7 in order to apply the update immediately. The procedure "un-brands" the HTC device and tricks the system into believing it is carrier independent and good to go for the update. Please note that the hack is for HTC devices only and is an advanced technique. Check out the source link if you want to apply' be warned though, you're doing it at your own risk!"

So NoDo was finally released this morning. Well, for the EU people anyway (don’t get me started).
Windows Phone 7, by default, stores your operator identifier in a sneaky registry key, which is checked by the Windows Update Client running on the phone. This identifier is then used to check if the updates have been approved for your operator. If they are slow, like Telstra here is in Australia, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
So, let’s tell you how you can “un-brand” (this won’t remove the boot splash screen) your phone so it appears to be a generic handset to the Update Servers.
Your device needs to be dev-unlocked for this to work. Sorry folks.
Download this zip file and deploy the 3 xap files onto your device.
Run the ChevronWP7.Ringtones.xap and wait till it displays “Ringtones added… and CustClear.provxml underneath”
Run the TouchXplorer app, navigate to My DocumentsMy Ringtones click on CustClear.provxml and select Copy from the Application Bar.
Navigate back inside TouchXplorer to the Windows folder.
Select paste from the Application Bar, this should scroll right to the bottom and put a copy of CustClear.provxml in the Windows folder.
Now run the Connection Setup application and click on the Ok button (it’s the one with the tick).
And now you’re done and free to re-connect to Zune and check for updates.
Again, this is ONLY for HTC devices.

I didn't get the NoDo and my device is "up to date"T-T
That seems to be updating people from 7004 to 7008 who previously couldn't get the 7008 update. Only a very few people seem to have had success moving from the 7389(RC) to 7390. Even those using unbranded handsets aren't seeing the updates.

What I posted was to remove the operator part of the updates, MSFT still region block updates. Which is why some are having success with German VPN providers.
OK Guys ... finally managed to get my Mozart updated to NoDo.
Used the intructions from here (lots of unsuccessful reports for Mozart apparently)
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/force-wp7-nodo-update-for-some-unlocked-phones
Lots of users also reporting success over on the Omnia forums with some more giving some handy tips
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011663
I only used the first link & followed it precisely.
Also before making the first VPN connection I flushed the DNS cache on my laptop to remove stale entries (from command line type "ipconfig /flushdns")
Also when Zune presents the update and you get to "Step 2", you need to disconnect the VPN connection and browse to google on a browser otherwise it just sits at 0% and fails (because it has the VPN gateway metric sitting in your PC's route table with a lower value than your proper default gateway).
1st Attempt failed.
2nd Attempt found the update and failed because Zune stopped responding and crashed (because I disconnected VPN too early ... before "Step 2" on Zune)
3rd attempt Success and kept ALL my settings
For the sake of making it quicker (whole process took 45 mins for me) remove all media (mp3 & Videos etc) from your phone or your backup stage (on Zune) will take that much longer.
Success
I did my phone today using Walshies blog instructions for debranding and then for getting NoDo. Worked like a dream.
Pro = I has NoDo
Cons = No more sideloading apps. Every side loaded app I had requests deletion when run now.
Overall I'm a happy little vegemite.
Thanks Walshieau, great stuff, from you and the Chevron team.

Dude don't scare me. I have done exactly according the instructions and everything worked perfectly.
My Mozart got an February update first, and after updating to 7008, it is now preparing to update to NoDo.
Most of my apps are sideloaded, it would be hell if I had to install em all again.
Hello there!
Any news on a generic ROM for UK. I currently have a branded Orange UK ROM and I've read the European ROM changes the keyboard??? What exactly does it do to the keyboard?

[ ROM here ] TeamLeader FB05 ROM, 1.3 & 1.2 for the new Galaxy S II LTE HD SHV-E120L
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Updated: FB05 by Teamleader [ latest ROM ]
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
NOTE , all these roms are for the E120L only. This phone is pretty new ( last i checked and is only available in Korea so most of the functions may not work on your carrier - or you'll have to find ways around them or just ask on the thread ).
> general instructions for FB05 ROM below curtesy of prodigiez
Flash your phone with tegrak kernel FB05 ( guide here )
Boot into tegrak recovery , back up system and then back up data
Go to you phonememory/tegrak/backup and copy both your system and data back to your computer or other folder. Remember to leave tegrak/backup empty
Then download the backup tar part1 part2
Extract the FB05.rar and you will see 2 files ( system.tegrak.tar and text file )
Place the system.tegrak.tar ( the one you just extracted ) into phonememory/tegrak/backup
Reboot your phone into tegrak recovery mode and choose restore from back up
Once restored , go into stock recovery mode and do a factory reset.
Voila , the new custom FB05 is now running in your phone
I removed all preinstalled chinese app with 520mb ram available and english as first language.
This rom is made by TL and some Chinese Dev from BBS forum. Credit to them. I just make it convenient for non chinese user.
Been using it for few days. No FC , acceptable battery life and able to send sms with default sms app.
In case this rom is not working for you or you dont like it , copy your system.tegrak.tar and data.tegrak.tar back into tegrak folder and restore it.

Teamleader v1.3
::::::::::::::::::::
Teamleader 1.3 is an update to 1.2, an international version of the stock rom for our phones from Korea. Its made for the Asia market but works for most other areas provided you have the same frequency - check with your telecom providers.
> Root ready: This rom is already rooted ( has superuser + rebooter ).
> Keyboards: English (U.S), Korean, Chinese
> Market, Gmail, Youtube....the usual suspects
> Chinese software for the keyboard (Baidu,...UC Browser ) << remove these with Root Explorer if needed / Freeze with Titanium Backup Pro ( see my list below of junk )
> Samsung Apps << remove these with Root Explorer if needed / Freeze with Titanium Backup Pro ( see my list below of junk )
Safe way: Use Root Explorer copy the Systems / App folder to your pc or SD card just incase you screw things up. Have Odin on standby I think this phone is unbrickable..use stock recovery tool if needed.
Let me know if you have any problems so we can share the list of bugs ( even though I'm not the dev ). Press the Thank button if it helps you, ask questions if your not sure.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
How to Flash it - Steps
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Happy to report that I got some time today to flash 1.3 on the old MBP.
For those who were asking how to do this
1. Download the file E120L_Teamleader_V1-1.3.7z from here ( let me know if the source is down and I can upload mine somewhere )
( use password - "koxda" .com to extract the file<< without space on the dot com part ). After you extract the file you'll get a Odin useless file ( I assume ), and a tar extension file. You need the tar file to flash with Odin in step 8 below. Put both files in a folder on your desktop or somewhere you can easily fetch with windows explorer.
2. Make sure you have a full battery ( its recommended for better battery performance )
3. Back up important Data with the following options:
(a) Titanium Backup Pro ( if you need all your app data and installs )
(b) SMS Backup & Restore (if you need sms conversations )
(c) Call Logs Backup & Restore ( if you need call history )
(d) You can skip a,b, and c, and just use Tegrak Kernel tool to do a Nanoid backup ( but you need to flash the Tegrak Kernel via Odin found here << thanks to Prodigiez. There's instructions in Korean - please google translate it and choose the appropriate file according to your phone model.
4. Clear your Cache and Davlik Cache ( I did, I think it helps )
5. You'll need a windows pc ( I bootcamped my mac ), you'll need Samsung Drivers, you'll need Odin3 - you can find them here << thanks to Prodigiez. There's instructions in Korean - please google translate it and choose the appropriate file according to your phone model.
6. Install the Samsung Drivers, now connect your phone and windows will do its thing to install the drivers. Your phone will now be visible as a USB device.
7. Install Odin and keep Odin running. Connect your phone. Turn it into download mode , it will look something like this ( see attached photo "downloadmode" )
8. Click on "PDA" in the Odin program, choose the file ROM file ( in my case its "PDA_TeamleaderV1.3.tar ", then hit start. Odin will do its thing, the screen would look something like this ( see attached photo "odinprocress"). Once its done Odin will display something like this ( see attached photo "odinsuccess"). Your phone will reboot, disconnect the cable and you'll have a junk load of apps that you may want to remove. ( refer to my junk load apps section ). Your phone will now have the following build specs ( see attached "1.3about" photo)
Junk Apps that are running on my task manager ( see attached "junkload" photo )
I'll find time later on to clean up the apps. If you plan to remove these apps you need to use Root Explorer but first make a backup of the systems/app folder otherwise you may end up screwing up your system with FCs. Its easy to know which app is a problem. The safest way is to use Titanimum Backup Pro and freeze some apps.
Here's a list of the apps I consider "junk" on 1.3 ( if your a native English speaker that doesn't like bloatware ). Removing these apps is for experts I recommend you freeze them with Titanium - again backup your systems/app folder to avoid FC's.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
JUNK (Bloatware) on Teamleader 1.3 Rom
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Not all this is junk, if you like to have these apps please don't remove them ( experts only ).

> The Samsung JUNK. If you are like me and want to really streamline your phone and know exactly what functions you will never use, then here's a safe list ( here ) from the SGS 2 list of safe to remove apps you can try out:
If you want to do nanoid back-ups and CWM style, you will need to flash tegrak kernel using Odin again on the windows box. Then you can do the back-ups.
For now I will stick and test the kernel 1.3 comes with as I was experiencing some horrible battery drain on 1.2, my suspicion was the FC Commando game I was playing and the Alarm ( for some reason I would get FCs when setting up alarms on the clock app ). Once the alarm had gone off the phone would remain very hot until I manually ended the task using AirDroid <<< I highly recommend this app.
I'll keep testing the stock 1.3 kernel and see if my situation is solved and report. ( so far, 3 hours later, my battery is pretty good at 90% ). I still have the junk on my phone I'll remove it this weekend to see if it helps ( I'm sure it will ).
I'll keep testing this out and report, if you guys could post any bugs on here too that would be great. Lets share

OLD - Rom Teamleader 1.2 ( flash it the same way as 1.3 )
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Here's a link to the Team Leader 1.2 ROM that's very stable, fast, and good battery life as an alternative to the other stock roms out there like EJ...
Flash this through Odin and # see instructions on the attached screenshot of which button to click ( I'm not Chinese but its not rocket science to figure it out ). It downloads pretty fast inside China I have 150KB/sec...pretty impressive for Shanghai internet speeds.
Go here to download it.
Password for the extracted file is" www#.koapk.com " (remove the # )
If it downloads too slow I'll have to upload my file somewhere and hope not to get cought by the feds
Enjoy and hit that " Thank" button if you find this useful
So why post in the wrong forum ????.
Its not a question .

I've asked the mods to create a forum for this phone, hopefully it will get moved there so chillax.
Glad the speeds working out well for you mailwork. Let me know how your install works.
Does this work for e120s? Or do I need a different Team Leader rom?
there's v1.3 actually which is good rom... and fixed some fc issues... google around and you will find it..
as requested , i have uploaded this rom to a fast file hosting for free users..
Hey Prodigiez, I haven't experienced any FC issues on v1.2, did they fix the color issues on 1.3 yet? Also if you find an ICS 4.0 rom for this I'd love to get a hook up. I'm starting to miss Serendipity Rom.
Things that could get improved on this phone
----------------------------------------------------
> Power button for shooting photos like on Serendipity
> Silence the camera shutter noise
> Easier access to Data on/off, and other settings where the current the Wifi on/off, Rotate, Bluetooth, and other usual suspects on the top slide down menu on the phone
> Automatic Bluetooth visibility to ON for 30 mins upon turning on Bluetooth ( right now its a 3 click procress - pretty messed up I assume Android would have got it right by now
> Quicker shutdown / Power on
> Samsung qWerty Keyboard ( I miss the big keys even though I got a replacement app )
> Remove the funky icon next to the signal bar ( there's an icon with a no-call looking thingi next t the signal bar and power bar)
> Better audio management ( for some reason the speaker doesn't sound that loud / good ) on playing certain media.
Otherwise, this phone without doubt the best smart phone out there currently.
Sounds good thank you
Sounds good thank you !
@michael1982t,
New HD LTE owner here.
I've flashed 1.2 and am happy to report that SMS is now working properly. -relieved-
However, don't you find the colors are way off? Or maybe the brightness level is just too dim.. (apparently, this was intentional to avoid the phone overheating) Have you heard of any fix for this?
This. Phone. Rocks.
@neverborn,
Glad the rom solved your issues, I haven't experienced any overheating, just the normal heat rise due to playing the new Captian America game too long which is normal.
As for the colors, I didn't notice that on mine, strange. I did notice that the auto brightness under Settings > Display has some issues with dimming the screen on and off. So I have mine manually set to this level ( see attached photo ) which works ok for my battery and eyes.
@ prodigiez , Do you know how to remove this damn icon? See photo attached with pointed arrow, its right next to my phone signal bar.

For sure, its a monster like non other !
It's much, much, much dimmer than what it was stock. Pity for such a great screen..
Also, where are you reading about the ROMs? I'm at angeeks and google translate's not doing a very good job on it..
There's several Korean forums, this phone is basically tailored for the Korean market, there's better updates on them than on the Chinese sites I've been looking at. I'll get some links posted when I get time later today.
As for the colors, maybe its a hardware thing on your phone? Not sure. But on mine they look pretty vivid and pretty bright ( I'm on manual, I don't use the auto brightness under display settings as there seems to be a bug with it) , I care more about the battery life cause I use it for web + games + emails + lots of calling (voip + regular ). The display is the only thing that makes this phone eat battery like hell ( next to wifi). I'm sure you'll sort out and adjust it according to your daily needs.
Thanks, that'd be great.
As for the brightness, it was properly bright when I first got it. It was only after I flashed TL 1.2 that it became this dim. There was even a message when I first booted up into TL saying that they intentionally lowered the brightness levels to prevent overheating...
Wish this is better in 1.3

There's the same as with any Odin install ( something like this ) but you can google for more info:
a) Download the odin zip
b) Download the drivers for your phone, there was a thread about it
c) Download the image that you need to flush
d) Plug in your phone, put it into the recovery mode I think ( on this phone its not the same as the big yellow android guy ).
Here's the full instructions for your specific phone thanks to Prodiquez
://pspmaster.tistory.com/176 << add http to the front. translate this site to english and follow the instructions. there are 3 version there ... E120S E120L E120K and the kernel itself are rooted and comes with superuser... Choose E120L or S I suppose. In your case you just need the drivers + odin zip, you don't need the kernel to flash CWM. But if you want to flush CWM you can grab the files from there. Enjoy
I could easily share the files on here if your scared of all the Korean
By the way, everyone, we are trying to get a forum home for our phone please vote on this post forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22096490 << add http to the start.

Neverborn is probably correct. Youtube it as well, plenty of videos that show how to use Odin. By the way im not a back fan of it, or mainly used it to rescue my old bricked Captivate. If you want the Odin, see the page I gave you a link to the file name is "Odin3_v1.85.zip"
@Neverborn
Let me know how 1.3 turns out, post any issues up on here, I may just update this to be a 1.3 rom post as well as 1.2 and keep the devs busy. Depending on your feedback I may upgrade this or next week if I get time to mess with it.

[Q] How to unlock the Chinese Huawei Ascend Glory+ [T8950]

Hi,
I first tried the method below:
Is someone trying to develop a Custom ROM for the Huawei Ascend G600 (U8950D)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943003
But the phones are not just different band versions, as mentioned in post 58 of the thread above. The T8950 is not kernal compatible with the U8950D:
http://www.jetdroid.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=106&t=8383
Indeed, the T8950 is equipped with MTK6517 dual-core processor, the MT6517 and MT6577 are the same, A9 architecture 40nm processor, clock ed speed is 1.0Ghz.
http://defendgun.com/2013/01/22/mobile-customized-huawei-glory-t8950-listed-price-at-261/
I don't pretend to have any knowledge about rooting phones, I just was able to find the correct information on the web. I spend two weeks figuring this out. So I hope I can save somebody else his time with this information.
this is how I did it.
UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
--------------------------------------------------
the bootloader of the T8950 is not locked, so it does not need to be unlocked. Allight, step one done!
INSTALLING THE CMW CUSTOM RECOVERY TOOL
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The T8950 does indeed not have a fastboot mode. the CWM custom recovery can be installed by flashing the ROM using the Flash tool of Mediatek
tutorial: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/05/mt6575-flashing-tutorial.htmlthe correct files to use in the tutorial can be found here:
- SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1224.01 --> http://www.mediafire.com/?c8lr368ceaqk7tv
- MediaTek DA USB VCOM drivers --> http://www.mediafire.com/?h0ytkyagj0kf89u
if all went well, you should have a different recovery screen now.
ROOTING
-----------
Tutorial: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/02/complete-guide-to-clockworkmod-recovery.html
The fileto be used is:
- RootT8950.zip --> http://www.mediafire.com/?je47wz2ozjr7oth
After the update is finished, reboot . Now, you should see Superuser in your Huawei T8950 app list. You can double check if you have root, using the "got root?" app.-->https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.island51.gotroot
INSTALLING THE GOOGLE SERVICES
----------------------------------------------------------
Since the the CWM custom recovery tool is installed now and the phone is rooted, it's very simple to add the google services to the phone. I used the GAPPS of Cyanogen. You can find them on many places, e.g.
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/gapps-cyanogen/
choose the right version, most likely your T8950 will have android ICS 4.0.4
istallation is the same as installing the rooting ROM

TeTTiweTTi
Hey TeTTiweTTi!
I can not say how glad I am that you wrote this tutorial. It seems that this is actually the only tutorial on how to truly unlock the T8950 (at least for non russian-speakers )
Still, I'd have some questions:
How do you install the VCOM driver? I downloaded it, but I can only find .inf files.. How do you install them?
Did you flash the whole ROM or just a part of it, as shown in the tutorial? And what exactly happens when you flash the ROM? Are you able to boot afterwards? It seems to just install CWM - right?
How do you apply the update RootT8950.zip?
Help would be appreciated a lot, since you seem to be the only one who knows how to properly do it
Oh and btw: did everything work for you after flashing the ROM? Or did you encounter any errors?
Cheers,
amannn
Hi, it was indeed not so easy to collect these bits and pieces together
here an answer to your questions
1.
The .inf files are the drivers. There are two ways to install the drivers. One way is to right click on the .inf file and choose "Install". The other way is to start the process with SP Flash Tool and as soon as you plug in the phone a new device will be detected and you have the choice to install the drivers.
Also, it is very important to make sure that you click "Download" first before you connect the device. Actually there is a trick, below the sp flash tool, you will see something that says "USB". Click "Download" and wait for the "USB" to become "Searching". Once it is "searching" then connect the USB. SP-Flashtool should be able to capture it before it disconnects itself again.
2.
yes, you only flash a part of the ROM, so you don't need to have all the files in the SP Flash Tool. Only the ones mentioned in the tutorial. Your phone will boot normal, nothing will be changed yet. But now you will have the CWM custom recovery when you start up in recovery mode.
3.
the linked tutorial is quite clear. Let me know if you cannot reach the page or you encounter a problem.

Hey TeTTiweTTi!
Thank you very much again for your detailed explanation!
So i think I've installed CWM recovery successful. Therefore, I'm now working on the rooting part.
The RootT8950.zip file needs to be applied, using the "choose zip from sdcard" option from CWM recovery right? When I choose that option, I encounter the error "E:Can't mount /sdcard/". Also when I'm trying to create a backup, it says "Can't mount backup path.". So it seems that there is a problem with accessing the sdcard. I then tried the "mount /sdcard" option, but it also says "Error mounting /sdcard".
Did you have any problem like that? When my phone is booted up, there is no problem with accessing the sd card... Or is there a option how I can check if the sd card is inserted correctly? I guess it's internal and therefore impossible to even remove it..
Your help would be highly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance and best wishes,
amannn
EDIT: I was now able to upload the update with an external micro sd. Therefore everything works so far - thanks again

Hi
I have this. svp. Phone with ARMV7 ( see cpuz snapshot
)
It says mkt6517 with A5 cortex
I tried jnstalling all drivers linked here for ADB
but windows xp disqualified em as valid drivers for this hardware
Finally I got android device driver to install on
All 3 devices ( see pic- there are 3 devices
That show up )
I don't think this generic driver is the right one
So rooting this is still not done .does anyone hace luck with this device
Any idea ......? With getting the right driver and root
Procedure
I tried eroot too amongst other rooting s/w's

Hi sieger007,
It can be a little bit tricky to install the drivers, since it are .inf files only. But these are the driver files
http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.be/2012/05/mt6575-flashing-tutorial.html said:
There are two ways to install the drivers. One way is to right click on the .inf file and choose "Install". The other way is to start the process with SP Flash Tool and as soon as you plug in the phone a new device will be detected and you have the choice to install the drivers.
It is very important to make sure that you click "Download" first before you connect the device. Actually there is a trick, below the sp flash tool, you will see something that says "USB". Click "Download" and wait for the "USB" to become "Searching". Once it is "searching" then connect the USB. SP-Flashtool should be able to capture it before it disconnects itself again.

This second way worked just fine for me.
You can find the drivers and tools also here
http://mt65xx-tools.4shared.com/
he password to login is bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com.
But always make sure that you trust the sources of the ROM you download and know that it is meant for your phone. After flashing a wrong preloader, your phone will be completely dead (can't be powered on, it will not charge and won't be detected anymore by the computer) and there is no way to recover it.
In order to root you first need to install a custom recovery. In this case it is CWM.
hope this helps
still stuck in driver hell
thanks for your help . I had a previous Chinese MTK (MT6575 ARM A9 cortex ) phone , whose ADB drivers successfully installed when I installed the SDK .
Now this one is MTK6517 ARM A5 Cortex. and none of the methods ( #1 or #2 ) help, in those drivers being recognized.
By method #1 : Right click install - It maybe just copying the driver file to system folder and then on windows would auto detect it when the device is inserted -assuming there is a match .
Method # 2 : Uses the new h/w found dialogue . Not sure if invoking sp_tool is related anyways in invoking that dialogue . It shows up anyways - soon as you plug in the phone .
I could not get the driver files in with the blogspot password to be recognized . Kept giving me "specified location. does not contain info about your h/w msg"
I have the EXACT same problem with ALL drivers hunted on the net , that say MTK driver. Some files say MTK65xx some say MTK_USB_Driver etc.
the h/w ID's and instance IDs associated with the devices are attached .
USB\VID_1782&Pid_5d04&Rev_0229&MI_01
Now the driver.inf file did have one ray of hope with this mention ..wonder if that'd make it compatible with a modified inf file.
But I am lost about HOW to add the h/w ID info ( format and what specific data to add ) to the inf file -most data is of the form VID_eXXX something in that file ( see below quote )
MT6516 USB VCOM drivers\readme.txt
Code:
3. Customers can customize usb2ser_XXX.inf file.
There is a string in the file:
MTK6218 = "USB Modem Driver"
You can modify it for your product name, for example:
MTK6218 = "MY_PRODUCT Modem Driver"
The other perplexing thing is that there are 3 Devices that show up under XP device manager. I managed to get one of em installed as device "android phone" with driver "android ADB interface" from Google and can possibly manage to get ALL of em installed the same way since those device ID's are close ( the last '1' becomes 2 and 3 respectively ) in this
Code:
USB\VID_1782&Pid_5d04&Rev_0229&MI_01
After pushing all these device ID's as "android ADB interface" - and attempting to root- the android rooting s/w's will NOT work at the identification step , erring out with "ADP device not found "- conclusively indicating that those drivers probably did not work well and I ought to look around for better ones - something I am trying to address by this thread.
Lastly - sp_tool when you start it - it will ask for scatter file. The scatter file out there is for MTK6577 (vs my model 6517 ) . If I choose that file - it gives me a warning - yes it out - and click download - it will then just freeze doing nothing
after some more G-mining ( Google) - i found out that I have to stick my VID in that hardware ID's and create an adb_usb.ini file to get the device recognized. Will update on happened next

ADB driver issue
> adb_usb.ini needed oXXXX as device ID . Where XXXX is the ID that shows up on Device manager. This is detailed here
http://blog.fh-kaernten.at/wehr/?p=1182
after that there will be 2 yellow marks for the rest of the unknowns in device manager. for this you have to modify the .inf file to include the entire h/w ID strings. I guess that makes just about any driver get along with anyone unknown - so here I am not sure if showing them as the such h/w by changing the driver files - gives them the actual intended functionality or all it does it just makes the device manager look clean without yellow marks. Maybe someone could help expand the talk here
[
Code:
android_winusb.inf
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C01
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1782&PID_5D04&MI_01
/*ADDED*/
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1782&PID_5D04&MI_02
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1782&PID_5D04&MI_03
So with that - I get 1 ADB interface and 3 devices show up under "com and LPT" - alright that completes the drivers
ROOTING
I found this Chinese rooting program Vroot . I still have'nt figured out what exactly it means but it looks like it DID root that sucker after all. I tested with one app - root checker - got an dialogue in Chinese , asking me whether to give or not and I think I said Y but that app still does not say I have root. Its probably the apps thats at fault because I can get Linked2SD do ALL the stuff it would be doing running as root - .e.g force move programs to SD to free up space etc.
If someone out there can make English out of that and tell me if its mine to keep or leased out ( trial ) - that'd be damn nice !!!

3G not accessible
Hi again,
so I've been struggling with another issue.
Somehow my T8950 isn't capable of connecting to the 3G network of my carrier. When I search for networks, only the 2G networks are being found.
Does anybody have a clue why that is and how to solve that problem? My carrier is from Austria and is called "tele.ring" which is operated by T-Mobile.
I'd really appreciate your help, since 2G is reaaally slow for data connections
EDIT: I just tried allowing my phone only to connect to 3G networks by using the Network app from Philipp Mangelow (which shows the same menu as if you dial *#*#4636#*#* as i just found out). This results into no 3G networks being found at all.. I thought maybe the problem occurs because I'm always connected in roaming mode. As I bought the phone in China, it seems to believe that i need to be in roaming mode to connect to my local carrier. However, I have a local SIM-card, so this is somewhat weird..
EDIT 2: So after some googling I've found out that China has the TD-SCDMA radio interface for 3G (at least China Mobile, and that's from where I've bought the phone), but in europe it's W-CDMA.. Remains the question how to change that (if possible at all)..
EDIT 3: So I've wrote an email to Huawei about the issue, and that's the reply:
Sorry that T8950 doesn’t support the W-CDMA mode.
Below please kindly check the frequence band of T8950 for your reference.
• GSM/EDGE:900/1800/1900MHz
• TD-SCDMA:A frequency(2010-2025MHz)/F frequency(1880-1920MHz)
So that means that there is nothing i can do about it?
Thanks and all the best,

No, unfortunatly not. this is not a software setting, but a different hardware chip. my t8950 also does not support 3G in Belgium

[Q] How to calibrate gsensor from Tab level?

I am not familiar with configuring things like .prop files etc; but I have a problem here:
After official update from company who sold me that crap I lost my wifi (it's some rebrand chinese crap), so I' ve found similar ROM and installed it
Everything works fine except gsensor, it requires calibration, need help how to deal with it
Android 4.0.4
Nevermind now, finally I got it
gsensor_name = mxc622x
gsensor_direct_x = true
gsensor_direct_y = true
gsensor_direct_z = false
gsensor_xy_revert = true
save it as gsensor.cfg in system/usr, reboot device and enjoy fixed auto-screen orientation (for me, other sensors maybe need a little other booleans)

Help: rooted XT912 Hotspot problem..

hi,
I have the Droid Razr CDMA version XT912 , with stock 4.1.2 .. I recently rooted it. Then, I want to hack / use the hotspot feature. I followed the direction here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746873
"
_id 66 "entitlement check"
Once there, change "value" field from "1" to "0" (this is the only step different from the original process, where the _id was 150). "
It doesn't really work. I mean after I edited the setting.db and reboot. It does allow me to turn on the hotspot feature without problem. However, I get an error message like this " Unfortunately The process com.motorola.process.system has stopped. " This error message will always pop back out even 3 to 5 min. Although it doesn't seem affecting other features of the phone yet, I don't see anyone reporting this problem after the hack.
is there some other setting that I need to change ? Please kindly guide me to the right direction or answer
Thanks
