[Q] No 3G after Update to pre-R GB and Eclipse ROM - Motorola Droid X2

Hey Everyone,
I was running root Froyo and just updated to pre-rooted GB and the Eclipse v2.1 ROM last night. Everything is running great except I have no 3G icon and can't make calls. Here is the process I did and the things I have tried:
1. Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik
2. Upgrade with P3 AIO pre-root GB
3. Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik
4. Flash Eclipse 0.1 ROM
5. Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik
6. Flash Eclipse 2.1 ROM
Tried *228 twice to reactivate and still nothing along with multiple reboots.
Anything else I can try? Are there some files I can check for?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind of new to droid (from blackberry) and starting to get my hands dirty (and enjoying every minute )
Thanks in advance!

After you flash the AIO, try booting up normally, activating the phone. You should get 3g and voice at that point. Then go ahead and instal the rom.
Also I'm not sure about you flashing the old version of the rom then the new one. Shouldn't it just be the new version only? Like I said I'm not positive, check rom instal instructions. But usually you don't flash multiple versions like that.

I've never seen this problem before, but if you can get 3G after an SBF than it's definitely not Verizon and not your phone, but rather something you are installing/flashing. If you can't get 3G after an SBF there is something wrong with your phone or your Verizon account and in that case I would suggest dialing 611.
Let us know if you can get 3G after an SBF.

Thanks for the responses guys.
@juhde: only reason I flashed the 0.1 before 0.2.1 is because I read some people having problems going straight to 0.2.1 vs most everyone I saw with 0.1 first having no problems. Who knows.
After loading up the AIO I did run the setup and I can't recall if I had 3G though because I was on WIFI, which is why I didn't notice until this morning after leaving home.
@Overmind: Thanks for the tip I might have to try that because nothing else is working. I was hoping to avoid SBFing but if I have to no big deal.

Why don't you do a nandroid first? Or.. my favorite, titanium backup, then you can backup all your apps+data, sbf, or whatever, reflash, and use titanium to get all your apps back + your levels on Angry Birds and such (app data). The pro version is like $6.00 in the market but so WORTH every penny. I love it!!

I've been using "My Backup Root" the free version and it works pretty well from what I can tell. Found it on the XDA dev forums. I heard Titanium is faster though. May have to try it out sometime.
I do have my stock w/ root nandroid. May have to try that. Just finished downloading RSD Lite and SBF but restoring nandroid should be a little easier. Prob going to try that first.
Thanks.

Ok this is odd...
So I try a wipe data/cache/davlik then restore my orig nandroid backup. Everything looks fine but no 3G still. I *228 option 1 and still nothing.
So at this point I say screw it and do an SBF. I followed the guide in the X2 forums to a "T" and when everything clears it looks like I am back to the same configuration as before. No 3G and all the same apps as my nandroid backup. I thought SBFing was supposed to be a factory reset, which would mean everything gets wiped correct?
To make sure... I just finished SBFing a second time, making sure I was in administrator (Win7), and still nothing. Tried *228 again after and nothing.
Anything I can be doing wrong here?
One small caveat... RSD Lite is saying "please manually power up this phone" after SBF is finished. I googled it and it doesn't look like anything of consequence if the phone boots properly, which it is.
Thanks for all the help
I'm at odds to what is going wrong here.

Two quick things to try, well 3 actually:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* then select phone settings & scroll down to the toggle radio button & see if it's set to on.
Check the wireless settings menu & make sure your data is on.
Dial *22899 to reactivate your data.
Last resort: call vzw & have tier2 reset your data on their end.

I would like to point out that verizon currently experiencing outages.
That's probably your problem.
I've been getting sporadic connection all day.

Sorry but what is this? Is it something I can ask for directly or do I just say my data is out and *228 isn't working.
Thanks again guys.

Also have them dust off the account, clear out all the cookies, and feed these guys, which could very well be the source of the problem:

Earlier today my X2 was connected fine and my LG dumb phone sitting right next to me couldn't make or receive calls. Couple hours later, now it's reversed, the LG is working fine, my X2 has no data/voice.
Call Verizon and ask them if the outage is affecting your area.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Turns out it was an account mistake on vzws part that just happened to coincide with me updating to rooted GB. Called them today and got it worked out. It was evident it was beyond me after doing an SBF 3 times and still no 3g.
Thanks for all the advice though!

[HOW TO] Guide to changing your PRL - no root required

This is a guide to changing your PRL...no root required.
Where I work has an absolutely horrible Sprint 3g connection...lucky if it breaks 100kbps...so I use a modified PRL while I am at work to roam on Altell/Verizon towers. If you have the same problem as me then read below on how to change your PRL.
This is my first guide so let me know if you see anything I can do to improve it and be gentle =P. I couldn't have made this guide without Leviuqse's Epic 4g PRL guide HERE and yoboii23's guide to getting your MSL and drivers setup HERE. I was able to use information from both of their guides to help get this method working on my Evo 3d. This process seems long but it actually takes less than 1 minute to do once you have everything setup.
Disclaimer: Changing your PRL can build up a lot of roaming data/calls if you use a modified PRL/other carrier PRL if you are not careful. Use another PRL at your own risk. Don't play with the settings in QPST.
Requirements:
1. HTC Diagnostic Drivers installed
2. MSL for your phone
3. QPST installed...I tested this method with QPST 2.7 build 323 and QPST 2.7 build 366.
4. PRL file of your choice
Step 1 - Install your HTC drivers and acquire your MSL. yoboii23 over on XDA wrote a great guide on installing the drivers and getting your MSL HERE. Follow those instructions before moving to the next step.
Step 2 - Google and install QPST...I tested this method with build 323 and build 366. X-drivers has the software listed as freeware but I am not 100% sure it is so I will not post any direct links.
Step 3 - Find what PRL you want to use and put it in a folder on your computer. I am using a modified PRL created by techknowfile on XDA that is located HERE. This PRL works great for me but your mileage may vary...try out a few PRLs and see what works best for you.
Step 4 - Turn off USB debugging on your phone...go to settings > applications > development > uncheck USB debugging
Step 5 - Open the dialer on your phone and enter ##3424#
Step 6 - Connect your phone to the computer and select Charging only if prompted.
Step 7 - Open QPST Configuration wherever you installed it.
Step 8 - Click on "Add new port"

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 9 - Uncheck "Select Serial and USB/Diagnostic Ports Only"
Step 10 - Select your phone on the list and hit OK.
Step 11 - Select your phone on the list.
Step 12 - Click on the "Start Clients" tab at the top and select "Service Programming"
Step 13 - Select your phone on the list and hit OK
Step 14 - Click on "Read from Phone' in the bottom left
Step 15 - Enter your MSL when prompted and hit OK
Step 16 - Click on the "Roam" tab then click "Browse" and navigate to your PRL file. After selecting your PRL click "Write to Phone".
Step 17 - Your phone will reboot at this point and you will see a couple popups on your computer that you can just hit OK to close. Let your phone reboot and don't close QPST until it is finished writing to your phone.
Step 18 - The PRL should be written to your phone now. You can verify it by going to settings > about phone > software information > more > PRL Version. If you want to switch back to a stock Sprint PRL then all you need to do is go to settings > system updates and click Update PRL.
Reserved for FAQ if needed.
Be wary of changing your PRL (to a Verizon one) as Sprint WILL cancel your contract for overuse of roaming...just a warning.
Wait, wait--but if they cancel your contract, aren't you stuck with a brand-new no-contract $200 EVO 3D? Or will they require that you send it back?
I remember a scam I had back in the day where I could order the Motorola Razr
(remember when those were cool??) off of Amazon, cancel w/i 14 or 30 days, but was never required to return the phone to anyone so I could sell it at a premium.
I have read in other PRL posts that when Sprint cancels your contract you don't get charged the ETF but I haven't heard how that would work within the 30 day return period.
Can the same thing be accomplished by opening the dialer on your phone and typing in *#*#4636#*#*, clicking on phone information, and selecting a different preferred network? Will changing it with the method I list just not stick after a reboot? Maybe it will if fastboot is enabled? Just throwing this out there.
Changing the preferred network type will still use the stock Sprint PRL. I am using a modified PRL that has some towers removed/added for much better speeds. I don't think just changing the network type would have the same effect.
Thanks for the guide man. I've been stuck out here in the middle of nowhere, Arkansas for almost a month now, with a couple weeks to go, and no Sprint service. I was trying to figure out how to flash the 00001.prl, because it allows me to actually have service, without that damn roaming triangle sitting up above my signal bars.
This really helped a lot man.
FWIW, Step 4 of the guide says "Turn off USB debugging on your phone...go to settings > applications > development > uncheck USB debugging" but I couldnt get my phone to popup in QPST until I checked that box again (I had it checked prior and un-checked it per the guide). After I re-enabled the option I got through the rest of the guide without any problems.
Is there any other settings in there what we can safely change or should I just assume everything else in the program is off limits? It seems that what that program is saying after it reads my phone differsfor some of the stuff vs what my programming menu says on the actual phone...kinda weird.

Thanks, awesome guide! It works great on my Evo 3D, as I was hoping. I did the same thing on my OG Evo when I had it since I frequently travel in an area that has bad Sprint reception. When I'm traveling, I am usually roaming and have no 3G data (1x only). Thanks again!
Just changed to 00001.. i also tried 11114.. Gonna take a walk somewhere i know has no coverage and see what happens.
EDIT: 1 bar sprint to full coverage.... amazing.
Where to get the hybrid PRLs?
I'm new to Sprint and the 3G service in central Florida is nowhere what Sprint says it is supposed to be. The highest I've had is 125kbps. According to Sprint this area should have >600kbps. My sister visited me recently and easily achieved 600kbps with her Verizon phone. Does anyone have a link for the PRL discussed in this thread?
Also, I did modify the sound using QPST and was able to raise the volume. Check the post on XDA by urcboss07 on June 29th of this year on the thread "How To Use QPST to INCREASE the volume on the Evo 3D."
So as an alternative to using QPST, can we load the .prl using the fixed EPST program from Techknowfile's post?
That epst won't work until full root

So if you're constant roaming, you won't get charged for it? And sprint won't charge you for basically getting a $600 phone for $200 + your first bill if they cancel it?

This thread is to help people who has ****ty Sprint service in their area or area they want to travel to and not how to scam Sprint. When you scam Sprint, they lose money and everyone else gets affected. Sprint is the last carrier with true unlimited data and I hope you don't screw it up for the rest of us.
I tried this because of the poor 3G I get in my area. I have a problem at step four tho. I've tried it with USB Debugging on and off put when I try to add port in QPST the phone never shows up....
EDIT: fixed problem. I need a US Cellular PRL if anyone has one.
Incredibly easy once I got the drivers installed correctly. Also incredible results. Went from 1 to no bars of service in the house to full signal. I always use WIFI when home but now phone calls are crystal clear!

Finally! A Solution for "Data Call Failure" or Error 67

First of all, proceed at your own risk. Poking around in your phone can cause problems if you're not careful.
I'm posting this because I spent quite a bit of time searching, but could find nothing that worked. I tried resets, updating profile/PRL, etc and none of them helped. I finally bit the bullet and called Sprint. After a short discussion about everything I had tried, a nice lady named Rachel had me update my data profile, which is apparently different than resetting it. You need to get into the SCRTN menu and the required EPST code is ##72786#, which is one that I did lot have in my handy list of useful codes.
After entering the code, you are presented with a password prompt, which is where you input your MSL.

After doing so, you are at the SCRTN main menu.
When you tap "Menu" in the upper right hand corner, one of the two options presented is "Reset".
Tap that bad boy and you get this confirmation message.
When you tap ok, it does it's thing and then reboots. When it finishes rebooting, it should start the handsfree activation process and then all will be right with the world....or at least it was for me.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU! Activating my "old" LTE which was already rooted and got this. Took an hour with a CSR and getting disconnected for me to do a quick search to find this thread. I called back, got my MSL and did this and BAM!
Thanks a ton for sharing this.
Thanks a bunch, I am running stock Rom, but could get error 67 to go away with sprint tether. So I ran this and voila looks like that fixed my error 67 tether issue. Which also fixed my media link error 67 message
**edit**
The error came back after a reboot, I will fiddle with it more later see if I can make it stick

A week ago I was getting the error code 67, as well as no data what-so-ever. No matter what I did (the ##72786# data reset as well as the ##986# hard reset) still no data connection (error code 67).
So I took it to Sprint, they couldn't fix it and ended up giving me a new phone. Basically, nothing helped. The Sprint tech. really couldn't answer what was wrong, so his fall back excuse for the issue was installing an unstable ROM.
Which was not true, I had ViperRom installed on the phone for about 2 1/2 weeks before my phones data took a crap on me

An easy fix is ##DATA# enter msl, click data and edit the Active Profile from 0 to 1, commit and reboot. No one at Sprint or anywhere could help me. I got calls and texts fine, but data was a no go until I changed that value.

Man, I have tried everything i order to get native HotSpot working. Hee are the steps, as I know them:
Modify build.prop, adding the command ro.tether.denied=false
Reboot to recovery
Use TeamWin to wipe both Cache and Dalvik
Reboot normally
USB Tether
Turn on HotSpot
Still getting Error 67 every 15 seconds. Let it wait for 5 few minutes; no joy
I even turned off LTE (since it doesn't exist), nada.
Anyone with additional ideas ?
Thanks !

Confirmed Working on HTC EVO 4G LTE on Verizon Prepaid.
This is confirmed and working on my HTC EVO 4G LTE, no root; running on Verizon prepaid. My problem was that it would sometimes disconnect and most of the time just give the 67 error code. I would connect sometimes if I got lucky and then failed. I have HTC Sync Manager installed by the way. Everything seems to be working fine. I don't even know what this reset does as all the info stays the same after I checked it back. Thanks
What solved this problem for me, as well as a brief warning...

I have a Sprint Galaxy S, and when I did the steps listed here, everything was reset for me and all seemed lost. (could not call, text, number seemed reset to something like 000-000-0084) However, After poking around a bit, I went under Settings-->About Phone --> System Updates --> Update profile. After awhile, it updated and restarted, number was set back to what it was, so was username, etc. So, I'm sure your problem was long solved, but let this serve as a warning/emergency action post for others: If you do this, and then cannot text/call, try the method I described before taking it to a store. Also, I made an account simply to say this, I will probably never come back, so keep that in mind. Hope that I helped someone, good luck to any trying to fix error 67, even afterwards, I didn't even check to see if my error 67 was fixed (it always occurred when I tried tethering), but right now I'm just glad I got my phone to work again. Gapps: use the latest JB version from http://goo.im/gapps
Some people report data connect issues and they say going to settings, mobile data, then toggling from GSM to CDMA auto prl will get data up. I've done it and got it to work on my RAZR
Flash using Kexec SafeStrap 2.11
I have Flashed with BOOTMENU after using the bootmenus ROM CONVERTER and got it up and going.

Report/Findings
Here's my report of the bugs I found with 8/30 & 8/31
Data quickly came up on first boot after that shut downs or reboots could not establish data connections on any boot up after that.
8/30 I had a reboot during the splash screen.
Both Roms were functional and fluent.
Installing with BOOTMENU gave me mixed results.
Using Safestrap 2.11 it installed just fine.
Toggling from GSM to LTE/CDMA didn't get data back up after that.
Even toggling the radio in phone information did't get data back either.
I got some odd texts from verizon when i had it installed
I ran a known data fix by running the preinstalled app wifi router. Turning it on and granting it permission to install binaries didn't work either.
Update #2
Update I installed the KEXEC-cm-10-20120901-UNOFFICIAL-spyder-4.zip and the and the spyder-3 using safestrap 2.11 after first boot i got data before even setting it up i powered off the phone powered it back on and data would not come back up rendering the phone useless. Well, not entirely useless but not having data keeps you from testing it even further. However, I was able to make phone calls and send and receive texts. I attempted every trick that's known to work out there to get data back up, still nothing. The only way to get data is to re-install the ROM which forfeits any data or apps you may have downloaded. I'm curious about fixing the data because that would make the ROM a daily driver. It gets data on first boot. After you turn the phone off and the radio off it doesn't get data back after that. (that's something right there) Whatever changes when you turn the phone off after first boot that's whats breaking the data. To be honest I do not know how to fix it. Wish i did. I think these two guys that built this ROM did a really good job. We're so close to having jellybean as a daily driver. What are your thoughts?

I'll have to run RSD Lite Wednesday.
I'm running the unofficial .215 update leak.
My girl has a stock RAZR when we are side by side in remote place I get signal and she doesn't. I have been flashing on top of .215 guess I'll try it over stock. I haven't been able to get the camera to work.
Have you experienced any bugs?

wifi constantly disconnecting/reconnecting

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and has a fix
When I connect to my router at home, the wifi is constantly disconnecting/reconnecting, so i'm cycling between wifi and my LTE radio.
I'm running a 100% stock DNA right now, fyi. Wifi is set to always on...
This happens occasionally on mine. It's the WiFi not the phone. Reboot your router. Sometimes I also have to reboot my modem as well.

I'm having these issues too!
Definitely not my router, considering I'm running off a university secured wireless system. On my Inc 2, I never had problems with the connection dropping in and out! It keeps my phone awake and drains the battery.

The huge chunk when wifi was off I am being told is from smartsync. I had one little disconnect and that was my router Im sure because it has been acting up.
I was having done Wi-Fi trouble yesterday. My phone kept dropping the Wi-Fi connection to my Verizon FiOS router. I was always within range and it hadn't acted up before. We also have an Apple Airport Extreme in the house so I connected to that one instead and I haven't had any problems.

it'd definitely not the router or the cable modem. the other wifi stuff i have around connect without issues. i tried rebooting both anyway, and it didn't seem to help any. kind of annoying bug
I switched my wifi frequency from Auto to 2.4ghz only and that seemed to stop the issue. Only thing that sucks is I lose my wireless-n speeds. Our access point at work is only 2.4ghz tho so I would have to keep switching back and forth :/
Just had this start happening today. I'm wondering if it's something to do with a corruption in a Wi-Fi settings file.
Here's the thing...
Router is fine... I have 6 other devices that are seeing zero problems... DNA is only one with connection troubles.
DNA worked fine for about a week before this started happening. Started after I connected to work Wi-Fi but had to forget a connection... that is what makes me wonder about messed up file.
DNA is stock, no root, etc.
I guess the only way to check it out would be to compare files to try and find corruption... which would require root...
Any suggestions from others?

Some (maybe all) devices keep their current AP data under /data/wifi.
A wipe would cure corruption. It wouldn't have corrupted on read only /system.

Pardon the somewhat noob question, but the system still has permission to write and modify itself, does it not? How else does it save settings, make new AP's, save WAP, WEP, pass-phrases, etc.? Couldn't there be a possibly broken or slightly fouled way that the system modifies its settings files that causes a corruption or error in the file with some sort of a save? Maybe corruption is a bad choice of a word for what this is... just trying to think it through since there are others with similar problems. I may not be the best person to troubleshoot this since I'm no where near a developer level, but I do like solving problems.

Full reset, unless the poster is rooted, in which case the folder contents could be nuked. As for writing to system, no. It cannot write to system without s-off, even if you mount it as rw. The system isn't modified for settings, etc. anyway. Instead it is modified on the data partition. That way, when you do a factory reset, everything returns to default. A mobile OS that modifies things via it's core files would be a disaster.

Sorry, the way I worded that could have been better... by system I meant the OS itself, not writing to the system partition. I understand that it is locked at this point until S-Off is achieved. But it does sound like the OS writes it's settings to the data partition - as you said under the /wifi folder. What I was curious about was if there was some sort of slight error in the way that the OS was writing that config file that caused itself problems. There were a bunch of wifi issues on the Touchpad (tenderloin) early on that this reminds me of. May no be related at all, though... just seems similar.
Unfortunately, my time is short right now with finals approaching on the horizon, but I'll keep lurking and looking into it as my time allows. I love learning anything I can about this sort of stuff.
Thanks for the help BTW. Much respect for your dev work!

Well, it is possible, if the image flashed on the phone was bad to start with. Other than that though, it would take some sort of NAND failure to corrupt something. In which case, the OP has a strong case to get it replaced under warranty.
I never had any issues with this until last night.. I had switched the frequency from auto to 2.4ghz and when I got home or started acting weird so I just switched back to auto frequency and it connected like normal.. idk why that would cause issues but thought I would throw in my $.02..
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Mine was originally set to auto, so I switched it to 2.4Ghz and that seemed to only make it worse. The constant disconnecting is only a problem on one network, but unfortunately it's my campus-wide secured wireless network so it's not like I can just reset the router.
My battery life has been significantly worse when connected to this network through the day. It's so bad that I've gone 4G only.
I had this problem when I was custom Rom, after changing to stock Rom that problem solved
The Wi-Fi problems that I'm experiencing showed up after only switching networks, forgetting networks, changing security passkeys, NOT changing the auto or 2.4, 5g settings. I'm still wondering if it's some sort of a problem with the settings file. Does anyone know if the settings file can be deleted and replaced with a default file to try and start new without having to factory reset the entire phone?

I figured it would take root. Was going to try it w/o root just to see if a fully stock system could be remedied since the problems are not necessarily on a rooted system and are showing up on stock systems too.
I may try this later this afternoon since I'm planning on rooting anyway for a ROM upgrade.
If I delete the config file, will the system simply generate a new one or do I need to overwrite with a stock or blank one?
Thanks again for the information ADR> wish you had stayed on DNA...
I noticed the WiFi issue as soon as I got home with my new DNA and connected to my home wireless router. It's happened numerous times while all other devices (my PC, laptop and iPad) are connected and working fine. I'm going to test out the moving setting to 2.4 or 5 only (will use 2.4 since that's all my home router has) and see what happens. But there is discussion of this issue on the VZW forums with mention of a similar/same issue with HTC X: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/909569
-Edit-
I want to clarify that my DNA connects to my home network without any issue and shows full signal. The problem is the underlying connectivity seems to drop (still shows connected to WiFi with full signal) and web page won't load. Once I switch off and back on it starts working again.\
-Edit-
Just thinking out loud here - something else comes to mind: My home and work WiFi are backed up on my Google account and I setup my DNA with my Google account while at the Verizon store. So, of course, when I got home it connected automatically. I wonder...
---------- Post added at 02:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:01 PM ----------
Where I was going with this is perhaps the Restore procedure from Google is somehow getting corrupted in some way when writing to the phone. As chadster1976 just mentioned, I was thinking about forgetting all the wireless networks backed up to Google and re-authenticating manually.

APN Issues Samsung Galaxy S4 Sprint Rooted

First of all, the APN is greyed out, so I was not able to unlock or do anything with it. So under root browser I went to build.prop and added the two lines at the end:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
I rebooted the device and downloaded Change APN and selected my APN and it worked for the night, but then it did not work at all. I undid the cod, rebooted, and did it again. I can add and delete APN's in Change APN, but none of the choices work. I looked online for my provider's APN settings and that did not work at all. I am still using kit kat because I was not able to update. If I update will it fix the issue? And if I update will it get rid of root? I am updating via odin.
Ok I was able to fix my own issue. Under network mode it is VERY important to have it under CDMA and NOT in LTE/CDMA.

OK so I did get it to work but what I noticed was that I only get 3G not 4GLTE like I used to. I went in to Change APN and hit menu and clicked on revert to default and that did the trick. I selected the APN called LTE Sprint OTA, went in to my settings and set the network mode to CDMA and it seems like it got 3G when I reboot. The problem now is that there is no APN selected when I turn on Change APN. I do not know what to do to get 4GLTE back. I know at least I got my internet back though. For those with similar issues I will try to find a way and research more, but I do not know for now. If someone does know a way please post it.
So today I am updating my phone using odin. I currently have 4.4.2, and I will be updating to 5.0.1 (from kitkat to lollipop). I am hoping that works. I backed up all of my stuff on Titanium Backup. I purchased something from it I forgot if it was like a special key or something but I know I have complete access to it from a while ago.
I went to sammobile.com/firmware and looked up for the one that I wanted -mine is SPH-L720. I am upgrading to the most current one that they had. Another thing I noticed too is that you have to register in order to download and the download takes forever. That is no fun at all. But right now I am at 1.0 GB of 1.4 so I will post what happens at 1.4 when I install odin -again- and when I try updating.
I also have bricked phone videos just in case something does go wrong. I will later be posting what happens and if updating was even a success, and I will also mention if 4GLTE is back or if I am still stuck using 3G. I think if I am still stuck using 3G I am not going to play with it anymore and just leave it how it is. I just hope that when I go to Mexico nothing gets messed up and I can still use my phone there. That is my biggest worry. If it all fails I am probably going to wipe out my data.
5.0.1 Update Successful
Update was a success, and for right now there is no sign of positive APN fix because my house does not have a good area of connection. But everything does seem to be ok for now. Once evverything is finished downloading because I deleted a lot of bloatware and it is all coming back I will let post if APN was fixed or not. I do notice t hat APN is still down to the 3 other APNs I had when I entered the 2 codes in build.prop, and neither is selected. But when I go pick up my siblings I will keep an eye out and see if 4GLTE does come back or not and will let everyone know if it was a fix or not.
Finally worked...but
I had a succesful update, but it did not work. I was not happy about that. I went into lollipop and it was a big disappointment. I hate it. Anyway, I did not see it get fixed. That is when I decided to just go ahead and factory reset everything. I did not want to do this because many people said that it did not work well when rooted, so I prepared myself in case I bricked my phone. But, it did not brick -hurray. And I got my APN's back. I just had some trouble with the WiFi's afterwards, but that is more of a problem with the passwords here and not because of the S4. For those who have had problems as well, there are several APN's needed that are hardly mentioned -and if they are I have never seen them being mentioned. I will post a picture. According to some people all you need is the APN section for it to work. I will also make a guide on what you can try to do if you do not want to factory reset your phone like me. It was a pain. I lost a lot of cool things I had on my phone, but hey I got 4G LTE back.

As you can see, this is what I currently have for APNs. If you do not have those, I will show you how to get them inserted if they are greyed out like mine.
The larger text us known as the title. I heard you can name that whatever you want, but you would still want to keep the same title. What matters is the APN or smaller text. That what is important.

Finally...my way of fixing it APN problems with most sprint phones I hope.
First of all, you will need to be rooted or you will have to do a factory reset on your device in order to solve this issue. I cannot tell you how to root because every device is different.
Once you are rooted, you will download some kind or root browser. My favorite is called root browser
Once you have that, open it up and grant it root permission. You should see something like this
Scroll down to where you see system on this page
Hit system and scroll down until you see build.prop
Tap on it and you will see something like this
Tap on RB Editor and you will be guided to a bunch of text. DO NOT MESS WITH THE TEXT. Just scroll all the way down. Once you are all the way down, you will input the following two lines at the end:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
Save it and go back. Once you save it, go ahead and reboot your device. Once you boot up go back to the play store and get Change APN
Open this up and you will be able to edit your APN settings. I am not going to mess with mine anymore so I will not have any screenshots. But make sure you click on the plus sign on the top to add and add all the ones you see here
You will be adding APNs with title and APN only. Add all the ones you see on the screen and save them. Once you have all of them, exit out and go to settings>connections>more networks>mobile networks. Under network mode click on automatic. You should not have to reboot but if you do then do so.
You might not have the automatic selection. If you don't then just click on CDMA/LTE. then go back to build.prop and erase the 2 lines of code and reboot once again.
Go back to the mobile networks and see what happens. Try going into automatic if you were not and reboot again if you have to. If this did not work then I guess it's factory reset like me. I'm sorry.
I hope I nailed it. If not let me know.
