[Q] flashing a new theme - HTC EVO 3D

When I already have a theme flashed and if I want a different one do I just flash that one?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App

Eh not too sure about that one. You should always do a nand before flashing a theme. But if I were you I'd do a nand right now, then after reboot flash the new theme and see what happens. If it doesn't work, just restore your nand backup and then start over from scratch if you have too.

Make a backup of your current rom first, in case you don't like your new theme or it doesn't work (as stated above), Then wipe cache & dalvik (you won't lose your data), then flash the new theme.

So if im coming from GingerBlur V4.5, how exactly would i do this? Would i open this up and click "Flash CWM recovery" and go from there? Im just curious if this will wipe my phone and reinstall Gingerblur (if i choose), or just another ROM i have stored, or do you have to get the ROMs from the app?
And are all ROMs compatible? Or do they have to be compatible w/ this version of CWM? Sorry for the newb questions...

I think the CWM it installs is for unlocked phones only. So you'd have to unlock your phone first, I believe, in order to flash ROM Manager's CWM.
As for installing all ROMs, it's CWM. So it should be able to install anything. After all, the ROMs are really just pre-boot install scripts, for the most part. The free version of ROM manager has the option to install zips from the internal SD only (as per comments in this thread). It also lists a subset of ROMs, but it looks like it throws an error right now.
cant fastboot flash recovery partition after Rom mngr recovery install
tried to flash back to tenfars recovery after flashing cwm thru rom manager..failed. should i reflash pudding and then try..? or...?
If you install recovery through ROM Manager, the full wipe option does not actually wipe anything. You can still do a wipe by utilizing the -w command via moto-fastboot then install via recovery.

As this is an mtd rom, you should be fine flashing this over CM7 in recovery. You may be able to get away with just wiping cache/dalvik, but you may need to wipe data, unsure about that. Probably best to wipe all 3.
Great job on this build. This rom is ridiculously fast and I usually replace Launcher2 with any new rom install, but this version is so smooth I may just keep it.

I definitely agree with you usually I wipe data. I notice less issues when I wipe data. I know people just don't want to reinstall their apps but if you got a backup with titanium it takes like five minutes to reinstall apps.

if you don't have it down to quickly rebuild your phone from scratch, what have you been doing all this time flashing roms? titanium backup all apps and app settings and restore after you set the phone back up, takes 10 minutes!

Nope, you can wipe cache/dalvik and flash 1.0.
And the rom wipes the caches upon flash so you don't even really need to do that, but its a good habit to get into.

If you look on the mean rom thread, the developer of that rom has an installation posted for how to install each update. It also helps to ask questions in that thread, because you get a lot of users of that rom to answer questions like this, and it is a good community. I hope I have helped.

Little off topic but... I know you can use 'MyBackup Root' to backup your homescreens. Not something I make a habit of doing but it does work. You'll have to re add your widgets but it will restore most everything else.

You can back it up in titanium backup. It is a free app in the play store. Just back up [DESKTOP] HTC sense. If you are using a third party launcher then back up the app in titanium back up.

If you're flashing mean rom on top, all you need to do is dirty flash (no wiping) and all your apps, setup and even launcher/layout will be the same

HELP! bootloop after Liquid ICS!

Please help!
I installed Liquid's ICS MECHA MR2.6 Beta1x zip file just to test it out but ultimately didn't like it, so I looked to restore my BAMF MECHA ICS 08212012 backup and recieved an error that that the MD5 did not match so I instead tried to reinstall the BAMF MECHA ICS zip but now am in a bootloop and wont go passed the lock screen before it reboots! I am a novice at this and am still learning but I think it may be an issue with the radios matching?

Definitely ALWAYS make sure that you clear data.
This is why I clear data 3x, just to make sure it all gets out, clear cache, and dalvik of course.
You can clear as much as you want. It's never going to hurt anything.
You should be fine afterwards to then restore your backup.

Good, glad it worked.
I didn't think the Revolution recovery would have a superwipe option.
You should download 4ext or clockworkmod recovery to take place of Revolutionary recovery. They work much better. I personally use clockworkmod recovery, but hear awesome reviews about 4ext.
By all means you can keep using the Revolutionary recovery. Just always be sure to wipe data 3x, cache 1x, and then dalvik 1x when changing between ROMs... and that goes for any recovery you might change to.
Usually clearing the data only once doesn't get all of the old data out. Besides, you can sit and clear any of those options all day and it won't hurt a thing.

Glad u got it working. In the future just do a factory data reset from recovery. It should stop the boot loop. To get to it. Pull the battery out to shut the intended phone off. When powering on, hold down volume down. It will boot into boot loader. From there you can select recovery. Hope this helps for future reference.

You won't need to wipe data if you're flashing the same ROM but yes, you should always backup. Always take a Nandroid backup before flashing ANYTHING. Also think about using Titanium backup for individual apps.
