Hi all,
using a physical Bluetooth Keyboard is a good choice, but only if you have the right Keyboard-Layout.
As I am not living in US (but instead in Europe/Germany) I am strongly looking for a way to change the used Keyboard Layout. Is there an easy way to change it to get the ability to use a typical German (Hardware) Keyboard on the Atrix 4G (AT&T Version)?
Can I modify: /system/usr/keylayout/evfwd.kl
What are the possible risks?
Which file I have to change for the Webtop mode?
BTW: I tried the App “Keyboard Language” which doesn’t work.
wanted Layout see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Germany_and_Austria_.28but_not_Switzerland.29
I use SwiftKey. There are options in the settings to change it

Hi,
thanks for your answer, but...
Swiftkey is a Software Keyboard, but I am talking about an Bluetooth Hardware keyboard...
The question is: How I can change the mapping of the keys on the Hardware...
Is there any kind of solution for this problem?
Thanks a lot!
Possible Solution for Keyboard Layout for external USB-Keyboard with Multimedia Dock
Hi!
I had the problem that the external GERMAN USB Keyboard couldn't be used as a GERMAN keyboard. And changing the setting to german wouldn't work.
I found this
android-hilfe.de/zubehoer-fuer-das-motorola-atrix/157808-webtop-problem-mit-tastaturlayout.html
and i somehow solved my problem by doing this:
copy "kbd_de_basic.kcm.bin" from /system/usr/keychars/ to /data/usr/keychars/ and rename it to (the already existing!! - so, better make a backup)
"usb_keyboard_102_en_us.kcm.bin" and leave the setting of external keyboard to "US International" (or similar..). Reboot.
For me, it worked. You'd better uncheck all the options at the "physical keyboard" settings menu.
cheers!
I've tried installing different roms and kernels to try and fix this issue, but the "w" on the portrait keyboard doesn't work - instead it presses "q" and "e".
Is there a way on fixing the keyboard?
You need to go into the keyboard options and recalibrate that *****.

Click to collapse
Sorry i'm a real noob, but how do you do that?
I cannot find a calibrate option for the life of me :l
when you get into your keyboard hit the little tire looking icon next to the mic.. And try the reset button in the options ^^

Which keyboard are you using?
I press the little cog and it takes me into "saumsung keypad settings" which has keyboard types, input language, xt9, keypad sweeping, character preview, auto-cap, handwriting settings, voice input, auto full stop and tutorial - but no reset?
Just the stock samsung keypad?
Ah yea the samsung one doesn't have a recalibrate option. I'm using the HTC keyboard, which has that option. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16368109#post16368109
When you're installed go to: settings>language and keyboard>HTC ime mod settings>text input...scroll to the bottom to calibration tool..
Hope it works!
Weird how you automatically thought he was using HTC_IME.
I installed that HTC keyboard - the W key on the keyboard still doesn't work - I think it may be to do with that location on the screen?
Paired with this, I can't add contacts to my phone :l I'm using Litening ROM v5 :S
Very odd, could be a faulty screen...may be something to do with the roms you've been flashing..they can make things go funny sometimes.
Can't help with the contacts issue, I've only used stock on this phone.
I think just take it to the shop (after you've flashed original rom of course, and got rid of the yellow triangle thing), and swap it for a new one.
Good luck.
Using thumb keyboard right now but had same issue in better keyboard and regular GB as well.
Randomly my touches become inaccurate or a specific character will not input on screen when I push it. If I back out of the txt screen or wherever I'm writing and go back in, it usually works fine again. Using ShiftAosp 2.7. Happens regardless of kernel.
Is there a screen calibration type app or a fix for this?
Under settings>display or keyboard settings I dont have the calibration option. Maybe that's a sense thing.
I'm running a Sense based rom. I can go to: Menu > Settings > Language & keyboard > Touch input > Text input > Calibration tool
Just wondered if you went far enough into the menus. I'm not familiar with AOSP roms and the major differences yet.
did you ever fix this? I have the same problem. I replaced the screen and digitizer on the thunderbolt and now the touch is really inaccurate. I have a hard time navigating around and even typing on the thing. I'm running CyanogenMod. Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix it?
Hi, im using MiniCM7pro, that rom is the best i think also T9 is the best way for messages, well can i add T9 in this rom or do anything? Thnx..
Hmm...T9 is predictive text (stands for 'Text On 9 Keys' which is a handy bit of trivia lol) and that's part of the standard SE soft keyboard that's inside the rom.
I can't remember the exact procedure but you need to go into the settings menu then into 'Language & Keyboard Settings'. In there will be an option to use the default input. That will give you the normal soft keyboard for the Mini instead of the one that gives you all the letters in one screen. The Mini's just too small for that..
Hi All,
I am looking for a application like "SwipeSelect" for IOS
This Tool adds a guesture over the keyboard "not swipe typing like swift keyboard"
It allowed you would set the cursor to any position on your typing.
That's much easier to fix typos, no more put your finger to the typo to fix it, just swipe to the left to set the possition.
Do anyone know a tool like this for android ?
I knows there is one ugly keyboard that supports this, but I hate this "Tyype" keyboard
