You probably need to wipe your cache's and stuff. Something is borked and that should clear it out.
I voided my warranty.
After I updated to Gingerbread I couldn't get the fingerprint scanner to work. A week later it just started working. Not sure what the problem was.
Atrix 4G
I have the same problem .... Anyone know anything?
I had the same problem, no matter now many times I rebooted, the fingerprint scanner doesn't register any swipe at all. I did a battery pull and the fingerprint scanner started scanning again. Weird, hope it works for other? If not factory reset would also be something to try.

Haven't really used the finger print scanner as I thought it was more of an inconvenience and a novelty feature then any thing else BUT trying g to show off the feature to a buddy I tried to set it up and the scanner does nothing g at all when swyping finger across the scanner for the set up it does NOTHING like its not even there I did the upgrade to 1.5.7 or what ever it is got the update ota from Motorola if that helps.... has any one else had this or having this problem???
Try rebooting ure phone
This was happening to me on the older version of the motorola software. Since I updated to 1.5.x I have not had this issue. A simple reboot always fixed it for me in the past.
So my fingerprint scanner worked flawlessly for about a week then issues started. It goes through spots where it won't recognize any of the scans. If I delete the scans and redo then it works great for a little while then won't recognize any of them again. Anyone else experience this? Thanks!

no not yet had the phone for 2 weeks and is fine
Just had this issue myself today, I have both thumbs programmed in and it refused to accept either. Once I entered my password it was fine. Happened twice now.

Had to factory reset the phone because it said that the system cannot handle fingerprints.
Even with the security password didn't work. . .
Sammy really screwed up this phone trying to release it asap

Occasionally it will go in can't recognize mode, but after doing a backup password it works fine. It's a very weird bug.

I had this problem once. Then i simply input the emergency password, which worked.
Usually it has to do with the positioning of your thumb. Just make sure you place it at the right angle.
So i just updated to MM. Now, my fingerprint sensor/scanner(whatever you wanna call it) is acting up. There are times when it won't read my finger at all. Other times, i would have to try three or more times to get a good scan in. This usually happens when the phone has been on standby for at least 10mins. Unlocking the phone with the fingerprint sensor when you just(say 2-5mins) locked it is ok. It works as it should. Could it be a doze related bug? Is there anyone else experiencing this problem?
update: it does happen even if i just locked it. though not as often as when it had been on standby for a longer period. "/
My response got better with MM. Try a factory reset? How did you install MM?

After scaning my fingerprint, sometimes I need to enter my password, it's not like this before I upgrade the device.

right. at first i thought it wasn't reading my finger. but now that you mention it, it may have read my finger but asked for my key after since it didn't show an error. if it didn't read/recognize my finger, it should show an error saying so right? but it just vibrates and asks for my key. will clearing fingerprint data and re-adding them help? sure hope so.

If it vibrates and asks for a key, then you are probably using an app to lock the screen. On marshmallow, you have to lock the phone with the power button for the fingerprint sensor to work

I heard that Nexus based on MM has this problem, too.
Screen Lock Pro(Prahallad) on Play store may be useful.

Thanks, when I use one-key lock, it'll always ask me for passwords.

Yep. I used to use the app "Soft Lock Screen" but now I can't anymore as I have to input pin if I use that to lock the phone hahaha

yes. i am using knock-off(double tap to turn off display) from smart launcher to lock my phone. i'll try disabling this and report back. thanks a bunch Khan.
Update: evrything is working fine now. Looks like it was a marshmallow issue as khan said. Too bad i can't use double tap to lock anymore.
Hi there,
All off the sudden, my fingerprint scanner stopped working. The problem is not that it doesn't recognise my finger, it's not working at all. Anyone having/had the same problem and maybe have a solution?
Thanks in advance,
Martin
I never got mine to work in the first place. It'll scan my finger but it won't ever recognise it as correct.
I use my fingerprint scanner without issues (in fact it's my new basic requirement if I need a new phone, wouldn't want to be without it). Have you tried to remove your fingerprints and add them again?
Yeah, I did try to remove them but it didn't help. Did a factory reset, but to no prevail. So I send it back for repairs
My MediaPad M5 (SHT-W09) has worked up well until yesterday. Now the fingerprint sensor is not working. I have rebooted, turned off & restarted it. I think the sensor MAy have worked again for a very short way but it is definitely does not work now.
The sensor does not work at logon, does not work for my banking apps and is not seen by other apps. Some apps say that there is no fingerprint sensor.
Has an app or something captured the sensor? If so how do I determine what is "hogging" the sensor?
Or is the sensor no longer working? Is so, is there any way to fix it?
Chris
Has anyone had the fingerprint sensor fail?
Chris
I also have the exact same problem.
It began a couple of months ago. The fingerprint sensor would show up for a couple of minutes after a reboot, but now it has disappeared permanently. Even the settings app won't show it after a restart.
Have you found a solution or some insights that could help us debug this?
I tried clearing the cache and sometimes it works for a while then the problem would reoccur. I did a reset to factory and this fixed the problem for a while.
I did cut back the number of apps.
Now it works perfectly and I don't know what caused the issue! It may have been a stray app.
Sorry about not giving a definite answer.
Chris
I have the mediapad m5 lite and I am having the same problem. It was complaining that the fingerprint hardware wasn't working and I restarted and now it is unaware it exists, even in settings. What was the cache you cleared? Did you have any luck further discovering what the cause is?
The fingerprint sensor works well now.
As I said previously, it must have been an app but I have no idea what
Sorry
Stay safe
