Well there is something but it's nothing like the iPhones app store which I love on my iPod touch. Looks like there is a bit of a down side to having the hero. I still want it over the iPhone, not so sure I would be if I didn't have the itouch
they got million apps out there..

Lots of iPhone owners thinking they're better than everyone else?
Seriously, as I understand it - there are more apps in the appstore, but a LARGE number are not that great and/or themes and skins etc.
The Android Market has its share of rubbish too, but the two stores seem to be more or less the same in terms of the types of decent stable useful apps available for a range of tasks. On the whole, prices also seem similar. Mechanisms to buy are both very simple and "on the go" so no real difference except for preference.

I know, right? Well, I've been an iPhone users for 4 years, so I know well how they think. Will keep replying for the lulz - it's not really hard to counter the arguments either. I've been using them for years!
I don't defend. Just got sgs2 today and gave I4 to lil cousin.
Lol that was defiantly worth a read. Compare any Apple product with a superior competitors product and you will NEVER get a Apple fanboy to admit its better. Ever.
I've never had an iPhone (because I hate apple, iTunes, and their closed ecosystem), but from what I can see the iPhone 4 is still a great phone, and has a few advantages over the SGS2 :
-It looks better IMO (maybe that's just me but I think MOST phones look better than SGS2, I ordered a Zenus Carbon case hoping it will hide some of the ugliness while protecting it lol)
-It has better games
-It has a few apps that android is lacking, or apps that are better on iOS
-I think the battery lasts longer and the screen has better outdoor legibility, but I did not test that personally so it might be distorted ^^
Anyway, I don't think there's really an argument here : Both phones are very good and very expensive, the SGS2 is probably the best android phone available and the iPhone 4 is the best iOS phone available. So people who want iOS should get the iPhone 4 and those who want Android should get the SGS2, simple as that
Without wanting to start a flame war (especially as in this case, I do prefer the SGS II), surely people blindly defending Android is just as bad as those people blindly defending iOS?
People have their reasons...if you think people can have hundreds of apps which they have paid for, it can make switching platform a costly decision regardless of all the other +'s and -'s.

I get that, there is making an objective choice for whatever reason and then there is rabid fanboyism on all platform. I've always been a bit nomadic when it comes to technology, especially since I work in IT I need to know stuff about all things IT and deal with technology from all over, but I can proudly say that I've never owned anything sold by apple and that's just because I can't stand the fake image of class, pseudo-intellectual facade and bloody ignorance displayed by the morons who fall for the marketing campaigns apple employs.
Oh yeah, I particularly like the one where someone I know got an iPhone 4 when they were released and started to brag about the free iCondom they got to "fix" the reception issue. That made me lolz.
I always like the "Yeah its more powerful but I don't need power so why would I buy it" argument. I dont need a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, but I damn well want one. The only reason I would buy a Honda Accord or something like that is because the Ferrari is a lot more expensive. Here we have 2 phones, that cost relativly the same. So if you could have a Ferrari or a Prius with each of them almost the same price, you would take the Prius because you dont "need" a Ferrari? Fool proof argument there...

Oh yes, absolutely. I've been defending iOS for years, and I only started defending Android last night.
I don't think I've ever been 'blind' in my defense though. The iPhone 4 is honestly a very good handset for its time, and a lot of hate it got were unwarranted.
It's always fun to see people blindly defending for anything, like this case here. There are a few intelligent people in that thread though, so it won't be pure lulz. But there are sure a lot of 'mindless zombies'.
Im a apple fan, had all there models and must say iphone 4 is a nice phone. I sold mine to get iphone 5 recently but cus they delayed i got sgs 2, i like both devices and will still buy iphone 5 when its out, only cons for apple is less customization and horrid itunes. And for me with android its just the apps are not as good in my opinion. So im half and half really i like both, carnt stand windows7 phone !!

Nice... I think you summarised it well.. there is no point in comparing apples with oranges
iphone 4 is garbage....I bought it the wife....all I hear from her is complaints.
It drops calls...it doesnt load all webpages (flash)...the main home button doesnt work sometimes...blah blah blah.
I spend a fortune getting the "bigger GBeeez" (32gb) one for her. Once the SGS2 comes to NA, I will give her my SGS1 and sell the icrap4.
The only things I like about the iphone4 is the screen and the camera quality. I even jailbroke it for her and loaded a bunch of apps...still crap!
All apple fools are idiots....I have soo many friends that only buy apple products...I dont understand why!

Own a iPad just curious to your reasons I'm not hating and not a fanboy I actually have 2 iPads in my house but I had them before I got into android and for me android is far superior to apple and it just seems to me if you like the iPad why wouldn't you just get a iPhone I plan on getting a tablet maybe the note 10.1 and was wondering why android users choose iPads over tabs because I see a lot of mentions of iPad around before I go out and purchase my android tab
Simplicity, that's why I think others get an iPad. I love Android for its customization but some people just want the directness of an iPad. You can get to things quicker with a custom Android when you know what you like but the iPad has a simple UI that anyone can understand.

I have no interest in any Apple products. I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now the Note. To me there is no comparison between Android devices and anything Apple has produced thus far. This is just my preference but I am strongly against Apple for various reasons.
I plan on getting the note tab it seemed weird to hear about all the pad owners around here i was getting second thoughts on getting the note tab it only seems natural i would love it since i like my note so much

Well here are my observations:
Android phones are superior in some ways the biggest is the ability to customize the user experience.
Android tablets are far inferior to iPads. I don't believe this to be a hardware function of the devices. THe issue is the OS.
Gingerbread for a tablet FAIL
Honey Comb for tablet is 70% there huge improvement
Ice Cream Sandwich for tablet TBD
I simply think its the OS of Android that has held the device back from major acceptance. I believe we are just a few steps away from making the choice pure choice. For today Android is almost there.
IOS will always win for the basic user who wants consistency and that where Apple excels. Consistency and simplicity gives the win yet in the end (a few versions away) the Power User will be Android unless Apple revises its vision.
Just my opinion.
Easy, I have a wife and kids. The iPad is just so easy to work my 4yr old daughter knows how to use it (though she can't spell). Apple products allow little to no customization so the experience is the same for anyone picking up an Apple product, so it is just easier to use.
I personally don't like Apple because of that but I need something for the rest of the family to use or it becomes a major headache for me
I have an ipad. It has just about been gathering dust since I got the Note.

Personally i own one because i originally came from the iphone over a year ago. I had built up such a large amount of ios apps that i needed a device to use them on so i didnt feel they were wasted.
The second reason is because i do ios development and it is nice to have a device to test on.
Like the others have said, apple products are easy to use and are consistent. They release an update and unless youre on a device they no longer support you know you get it. Everything just works and the simplicity of installing apps, music, video, and even backups are easier.
I tried as hard as i could to talk my dad into switching to droid but i lost and he got a 4S. He is so familiar with ios he is afraid to change.

Bingo. I agree. For me I have the Note and a string of Android phones and the Xoom.
But my 8 ye old son has an ITouch and so do I and they love it cause there's not much they need to do it and its the same thing if he plays with mine his or his friend.

I have a iPad 3G , iPhone 4s , iPod touch, apple TV, and a Mac book pro, and love all of them , but that's not gonna make me hate android. I am a proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus, and Galaxy Note , and my 4s is currently in its box in the drawer for the past 2 months. Android is really pushing the bar in terms of specs and devices. When I look back at my 4s it really looks like a little glass toy... Still works great but I just got too bored with it. I love big giant vibrant screens and ics is so smooth and stable now, I just love it! Can't wait to get it on my note.

The iPad 2 is the only good tablet on the market. Regardless of which Android tablet you get, you're getting a laggy product that has no apps. End of story. Not spending $500+ for a product that has no apps.

I completely agree. I love Android... and I love iOS, but it's just not for me. I personally bought an Iphone 4s for my father (72 years old) because I know he will enjoy it more than my Galaxy Note. Point being, he wants things to be simple that "can't break"... at least minimal chance of messing up by him. So to each his own. I love Android because I can play my classic SNES games hooked up to a HDTV using a Wiimote and A2DP sound to my headset through my Galaxy note. Try doing that with an Iphone/Ipad =D

I'd love the have an Android Tablet I currently own an iPad 1 and 2. I have owned and returned the Xoom and Samsung 10.1. Honestly the current OS for Android is like a beta or alpha version compared to IOS (which I hate). IOS is smooth and responsive I wish I could say that for Honeycomb. In the end Android will be superior and when that happens I will be the first to buy one.
My next attempt to go Android with a Tablet will be the 10.1 Note. I have high hopes.
i have a ipad2 because it was free, my boss gave it to me for christmas and he also pays for the data plan, i could of chose a android tab but i knew i was going to mainly be using my ipad for work, the battery life on the ipad is nuts, i dont charge it more then twice a week if that and i use it all day while working. thats why i have a ipad.
but when im home im either on my note or my photon.

Now this is funny. I have zero lag on my tablet and it had all that was needed for someone to start out new on a device like that in terms of apps. I quickly connected to the Android Market and voila ... apps galore. End of story.
Hey all, first off I just wanna say this is a great site and great community. You guys have been my number one destination when I need something for my phone and never disappoint. So thanks to any devs and anyone else who reads this!
Now, moving on, I purchased my GS2 back in November after having the 3 previous iPhone's before (opted for the GS2 instead of the 4s). And everything had been going pretty good up to this point and I was loving my phone. That was until I received an iPad for a graduation gift... and now I've come to a bit of a fork in the road. I returned the iPad at first because I had always told myself that if the day would ever come I would get a Samsung/Android tablet.
But I've been comparing the 2 a lot and have spent time on my phone and my friend's iPhone and iPad and I can't help but notice how much smoother the games are on iOS, not to mention the far far superior selection of apps. I spend a lot of time playing games on my phone and my GS2 often seems boring because of the poor selection. I remember my iPhone having a lot more people playing games online than I see on Android. I also feel like I've wasted a lot of time flashing new roms on my galaxy. I'm a hardcore diagnosed flashaholic and in a way I think it might be nice to have something that just works (iOS).
TBH, I've always hated Apple, everything about them, but right or wrong they've stolen a lot of good ideas from Android such as the notification bar that was once one of my biggest complaints about iOS. And they now have the chrome browser which I hear may be getting Flash NEXT when it comes out? As far as I can tell the only thing their missing is Flash.
IMHO: I hate how iOS gets the attention and the good stuff because that's what everyone and their mother is buying these days. I've always liked Android more but iOS gets so much more support.
The other thing I like about iOS is the great syncing between iPhone and iPad. I want my phone and tablet to play together nicely. Notes, reminders, apps, everything. Whereas if I get an Android tablet (looking at ASUS Pad 700 when it comes out July 16) I would have to use something like evernote and gtasks and a separate app to sync between devices if that will even work. I also don't like the limited number of tablet specific apps on the Play Store. But Android is no doubt gaining momentum, just look at 9 million GS3 preorders.
Sorry for the massive wall of text I'm just trying to sort out what I've gathered so far and get some opinions on it. So what do you guys think? For a phone/tablet combo which is better, iOS or Android?
Thanks for spending the time to read this if you did and I appreciate and input you guys can provide. I assume I'll get more Android answers but maybe there will be something I'm not seeing or haven't thought about before.
TLDR; iOS or Android for phone/tablet combo?

OP....I understand your point about how everything in ios just works right out of the box while we go crazy here trying to find that one ROM and kernel which we will be happy with but we never find one. We might settle for one for some time but then we need regular updates to keep us satisfied.
Having said that there are somethings which are easier with android....at least for me. Eg.
-File management is much more intuitive.
-Music management is awesome...no need to go thru the uber irritating iTunes. I can just copy folders of mp3 and can play whole folders Instead of albums
-Easy to sideload apps which allow you to do something extra like download YouTube videos.
-Also prefer the larger screens.
-Like the option of external memory.
- and a few other things I can't remember
On this forum you will only get iPhone sucks remarks. I personally like iPhone and ios but buy android to satisfy my above listed requirements which ios does not provide or does not provide well.
My 2 cents.

**** Apple. bad location for this.
I'd pick android, and I'd get the Nexus 7.
I'm no apple alfan boy nor am I an android fan boy. I like something that looks good works good and does what I want.
I had the iPhone 3 3gs 4. I loved the 4 by far it was just a sleek design IMO, I jail broke it to have more functionality and more open source management. I got an upgrade and I though apple 4s? Why pay extra for a few upgrades? Now mind you my iPhone 4 was never touched by human hands after I bought it. I had it cased screen protected the works I take VERY good care of my phones so it wasn't like it was all scratched so a 4s was justified.
So I stepped into android I've heard about it seen it on TV l read about it on the web. So I saw the gs2 and wanted it so I got it. Stock rom dissapointed so in a couple hours of owning the phone I had flashed roms apps the works it was soooooooo much easier then jail breaking. The cons I found was the 70$ a month warrenty while apple would replace anything I brought a jail broken iPhone in for a faulty battery and they replaced the whole phone.
I love both but both have cons why not use Google for notes and such?

I've had the first iphone and ditched it for an HTC back in the day which had 3G GPS and whatnot while the iphone was lacking about everything. I'm talking iOS 1... anyhow now I've own a lot of devices, have been able to play with a few tablets phones and whatnot. At the end it is hard to decide which pill you should take because there are good things in both products and you can't have all, I found the best combination for me was having an iPad2-3G and my current handset (Galaxy S3 ATM) which is the one I take everywhere. I've had the Motorola Xoom, and trust me I wouldn't touch an android tablet EVER. There is too much redundancy having the same OS on a tablet and your device, you can do exactly the same there is minimal to none difference between running a tablet or a handset with android. thats why I got an iPad I can have "quality software" if you want to call it that way and have my freedom/rom flashing/geek tinkering with android. And the iPad2's are pretty cheap these days

I switched to android, just after a jam with friends where all were just talking about how wonderful android is, as I was always a BB and iOS fanboy b4 that instance... and I too found my experiences with this enchanting and quite amazing..
After using the this SGS2 which I got from a friend moving on to some better one, I have used it in stock condition for about a month to get full gist of what android experience is all about..
now I'm also into flashing business and have already flashed my first custom rom (shostock) and kernel(NEAK) with modem (UCKH7) and really having a great time with this.. no issues whatsoever !!!
I'm so entralled by android that I have also started learrning about creating android apps (previously tried my hand on iOS app dev too) and nips n tricks of modding a kernel/rom to get the desired experience.. maybe with a little more time, I may also start making my own stuffss !!!

What makes you say that. Iphone 4 and 4S have much better battery life compared to any android phone (maybe not razor maxx). iOS does a wonderful job of conserving battery

Well, let's see. Maybe its battery is better, but the fact that I can change mine out and put a new one in (regular or extended) gives me way more flexibility than your iPhone does.

The people I know who have a 4S say the battery life is pretty good. Even the battery test results in gsm arena and anand tech say 4S is near the top of the list in terms for battery life for web browsing and video playback.

In all honesty and having used both myself, it sounds like you would be happier with the IOS. I personally switched from IOS to android and like it MUCH better but it's not for everyone. The IOS does work well but not near as customizable as android, but is more user friendly.
Thanks for all the replies guys!! If I do ever switch over too the iPhone I certainly will miss this forum. On a side note, is it just me or do 3 out of 4 people in the xda iPhone forums not speak English? Are iPhone users really that young? lol. But really thanks for all the help, I appreciate it.

Thanks for this idea. Thought about it shortly after posting this and wondered if I should have put a "Neither" option in the poll (not that it would have changed much by the look of it lol). It would make sense since iPad gets apps specifically made for it while Android tablets kinda get left out.

In a way in does, but it would be a bit of a pain to boot up Drive and navigate to a folder just to take down a note. But you do make a good point. If only Google synced apps too (more so than it does now at least).

Like others have said iPhones typically have very good battery. Even with all my flashing of custom roms, kernels, and modems I have yet to reach the same quality of battery life than I had on my iPhone 4.
Thanks again guys, this decision seems to becoming harder the more I think about it lol
The new app is awesome. It offers many new features and flexability. Only one major problem for preexisting Android users. Now you have to pay to access over the internet while preexisting Apple users do not. http://support-splashtop2.splashtop.com/entries/21825816
*Update*
Seems they have deleted that post (or blocked me one or the other). Now they are offering 1 year free Access Anywhere to preexisting customers. Looks like there are a bunch of people that are upset https://play.google.com/store/apps/...yLDEsImNvbS5zcGxhc2h0b3AucmVtb3RlLnBhZC52MiJd
*Update 2*
I am satisfied with the resolution offered by Splashtop. Personally I think the added features make it the best remote client for Android.
Does the new app offer any significant changes? I only just got around to trying the one included with the Asus stuff, it's pretty neat.
Yes, usability is greatly improved.
1 Year Free Access Anywhere
Is anyone taking them up on the one year free offer?

I will if they change it to a "For life" deal, just like what they have for iOS users. Everyone should get onto the app page and give it one star, and post their disapproval all over Splashtop's page until the backlash makes them realize how wrong they were to pull this on us, and how bad this was for their reputation.
Is this year free deal only in the U.S? I don't see it anywhere in the description? In Canada btw.
Edit: see it now, its under any negative review. But honestly they should give us lifetime for free as well

The year free is only if you had previously purchased Splashtop HD or THD. All new users (iOS or Android) have to pay for Access Anywhere. The offer was given in the user reviews on Google Play. It is their response to the backlash of existing customers.
Thank you for your feedback and support. We understand you have bought Splashtop HD. If you can send an email to [email protected] with your Splashtop ID and Gmail address used to purchase Splashtop HD, we will proceed to give you 1-year Anywhere Access Pack for free. Thank you again, Mark Splashtop CEO

Exactly. We have to put the pressure one for 100% equal treatment for Android and iOS users alike, no compromises.

Thanks yah I see it now, didn't think to look in the in the reviews. And I own THD so I'm not pleased about having to pay again for this. Already left a review stating this. Thanks though!
Maybe I'm missing something but what is the big difference here?
I have Splashtop THD and the only thing I noticed different is that it offers pinch/zoom.

Yeah! Equal treatment! We have to force them to make the app $2.99 on Android!
I would easily pay $2.99 to get a lifetime subscription like previous iOS customers get.
Instead, I get the app for free but have to pay $.99 per month or $9.99 per year once my free year is up.
Somehow they thought this was a good marketing plan?
They try to give reasons such as how in the iOS app store it was made as a replacement app so they are forced to give lifetime subs to previous customers. How is that now supposed to be OUR problem?

WOW.
It looks like they are burning the midnight oil. I sent an email at 1am PST and within 30 minutes they responded:
Thanks very much to be a loyal user. we do appreciate your continuous support.
We've enabled LIFETIME anywhere access for your account, enjoy!
it's really appreciated if you can rate us with 5 star.

It looks like they are starting to see why people are reacting so adversely. All we want is consistency.
I purchased Splashtop THD, have Splashtop HD that came with my ASUS TF201, and also have Splashtop Mobile purchased through the Amazon app store.
So I emailed them a few days ago, and they just responded saying they are giving me 2 years free. A little strange since some are getting lifetime, others a year, and I'm getting 2 years. But I'm ok with that, there will probably be a new version out before the 2 years is up anyways. So email them personally, they'll give you something.
They gave me lifetime as well. When they also explained that iOS users have to pay to download the app, it made more sense of how in the long run, the costs to both parties should be comparable. It seems that each new version would cost iOS users $$ to download, while our subscriptions guarantee us free downloads of any new versions that are released. It would be better however, if they can fix the problem and use the same exact model for both parties. Overall, I feel they are doing the best they can now with the difficulties presented to them, and hopefully it all get fixed soon.
Where do I find my Splashtop I'D?
