[Q] How To navigate Android Applications? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

I just got my CM7 up and running on my NC.
As someone who spend most of his life using PC applications, I think running an Android take some getting used-to.
My question, when you move from one menu (inside an app) to another, how do you navigate back, like the <- button on a browser.
For example, I was running the the File Manager, and with one false touch, it went into the Advanced Feature (Exclude from media scan). Now I am struck in this page, hitting the n button just terminated the app, but if I am to restart it, it went right back to the same page.
Now I am frustrated as hell

Dont you have the Back button at the notification area together with the rest of touch buttons like Home, Options etc?

Once inside the page (also happened in other app too), there is only two ways out: hitting n or press the power button until the menu showed up. And I don't see the kind of options you mentioned.

Go to Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Tablet Tweaks >
then uncheck "Disable Fullscreen".
But, when I entered the screen you mentioned, my status bar never goes away...
You should have some icons on your status bar, there..

Also under Tablet Tweaks setting, under Choose soft-buttons, make sure Menu and Back are at least checked.
Which version of CM are you running anywho? These soft buttons were added quite a while ago.

I was using the Encore 164.
When I run the Cyanogenmod Settings, it crashed with the message The application has stopped unexpectedly, please try again.
The problem just repeated.

I don't know if it will help you but this is what you're looking for.

It's in the status bar. The instructions above are to make sure the status bar is showing and that you haven't somehow removed the back button. If you still can't get CyanogenMod Settings to open you might try restarting your Nook. That's one PC trick that still applies to Android.

I rebooted the NC many times, and without CyanogenMod Settings to run, look like I am out of luck .

Use the rom manager to flash the latest nightly, the installation should take care of your issue for you.

Something else that might help:
/settings/cyanogenmod settings/tablet tweaks/choose unhide button
I have mine set for volume down.
If I ever lose the status bar, I can just hit volume down to make it show again, and get that back button available again.
Now you can make it go away when watching movies or playing games, and if you need to use it you can summon it at your whim.

Thanks to all those responded.
I have since redid my CM7 (format/clear cache, data and what not) and after that, I could see the soft <- button at the bottom of the screen and cyanogenmod settings is no longer crashed.
Again, a big THANK YOU to all of you!

It's easy,
Download and install HTCustom from here:
http://shadowmite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2231&p=7890#p7890
In the "UI" tab you can select in Clock Display one of these options:
Time, Date, Both, Nothing or Battery
Select the one you like, save and soft reset.
Cheers,
Works a treat, only thing is it now hides the volume and half the signal status icons.
If i tap in the empty space it does bring up the volume slider, The icon is just invisble.
when i open a program its is still shown like above.
If i slide open then close again (refreshing the screen) it looks fine. but once back to the today screen it it goes back to like the image above.
On another tanget, the battery status bar (Lordsmiff's) at the top doesnt always work.
I have to stop and restart the app to get an accurate reading, that or view the power status in the settings tab, then go back to the today screen.
Anyone able to shed some light on either of these matters?
Cheers

[APP] - HomeCatcher redirect n button to standard launchers

I wanted to post this up here as some of you may not follow over in the DEV section.
OK, Based on feedback here sounds like this is working properly. I have uploaded a new version 2.1 this is mostly just code clean up on my end as well as a better icon etc. Sideload it, also make sure you have an Alternative Launcher installed ie. ADW, Launcher Pro, VTL.Launcher. When you hit the n button depending on your setup first push brings up little nook menu second push it should make it act like a normal home button. Some setups may operate differently. Just uninstall the app to return n button to normal nook operation.
Please Provide Feedback..... Constructive Feedback Please (ie. Logs, errors, etc.) in the DEV POST http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356206 all other feedback ie "thanks! or awesome!" post in this thread.

Works Great...Icon Size Change
This works great...the Go Launcher icons are a bit small. Any ideas if they can be changed? Also I want to create a folder but the application won't let me on the Tablet like it does my Android phone...
THANK YOU!
Wow, I was about to return my NT. I thought it had somehow managed to download the 1.4.1 update again even though I had OTA updates blocked. This got me back to my home screen but I am still unable to add folder widgets & I lose the other widgets as soon as I reboot my NT.
Will keep looking for a solution.
can someone provide clearer instructions? I want to have the first push bring me back to the home screen, push twice to bring up that B&N menu
how to install
So I guess I am an idiot.
I have the nt hidden settings app installed on my rooted 8g nt. When I click the "unknown sources hack" not much seems to happen short of it saying I have root permissions.
But, how do I actually install this apk? I have it downloaded, and could install it from the sdcard if there was a way to do that, but I can't figure that out.
When I view this thread on the device, the links are not actual links, just text. So, I really am unsure what to do.
Go Launcher is working great, I just want to be able to go to it when pressing the N button.
Thanks.
Redirect other buttons
Would it be possible to have an option to redirect other buttons, such as the browser and shop buttons? I use Firefox as my browser and Play for apps, so it would be nice to make use of the nook button menu.
Same old story..can't use Homecatcher to catch the N button clicks....

My kid must have done something...last month I was able to get it back right (Homecatcher successfully catching the clicks and redirecting to Go Launcher)...
This time, I can't make it work anyway....I have downloaded the Homecatcher apk and have installed it several times. Clicking the button brings me back to the default Nook Tablet Home screen....urggg!!
have also uninstalled Go Launcher and re-installed and have set it as the default launcher....whenever I reboot the Nook, Go Launcher starts up as expected...but as soon as I press the N button twice....I'm back into the Nook Home screen and then there's no way to go back to my default Go Launcher desktop...unless I reboot...
Is there anything that I can do to make it work again? Many thanks...
Gizmo
PS: I have a rooted 1.4.1 Nook Tablet and it has been fine like this ever since I bought it Nov 2012...after 1,5 years of usage..it happened...oh dear....

[Q]Stock browser woes!

Hi Y'all.
I kinda like the stock browser.
The function of the "Browser home page" setting however

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Has me well & truly confused.
What is the function of this setting & how's it used?
1: It has been my understanding that this setting controls which page will be shown when the app is started.
That however appears not to be absolutely correct.
If I open a page - say Engadet for example.
Then press home button & revert directly to home screen.
Subsequently long-pressing home button & shut down all running apps & processes.
If I start the browser now, it'll open Engadet as first page. At least mine does.
I haven't found any settings to change this behavior.
2: How do I revert to the home page when the browser is running?
Do I really have to navigate backwards one page at a time?
Any & all inputs sincerely appreciated.
Regards
Elo

What you are experiencing now is totally normal and by default. However, to go back to home screen, you just have to press the home button once. Pressing it twice will open up the task manager

to go back to homepage, you just have to hit on the soft back button.. it is also by default
--to be honest, i find the stock browser a pain in the butt. that's why i use dolphin browser. i downloaded it from the playstore i don't mean to advertise or anything
Pressing back button doesn't take you back to home, it takes you back.
I understand the OPs issue, as I empathise with him. There is no way to exit the stock browser, so to end the program, you need to either long press the home button, and kill it, or do it through task manager. And even after doing this, the browser by default doesn't open the home page, but the last page left open - I guess it's like killing a browser with alt-ctrl-del on a PC, and the browser recovering the open tabs.
So yeah, a bit frustrating in my eyes, and it seems the only way around it would be for Samsung to add an exit button in the browser. Alternatively, I think closing your last open tab/window should close the browser app. That would make much more sense in my eyes.
Edit: I have found the fastest way to go directly to the home screen is by opening a new tab. Just click on view the tabs/windows button, then click plus. But you still have the other page in the background.

[Q] Power button instant lock - how to turn off?

Hi, got HAM2. Very impressed. Wish it had Qi, but aside really good.
Q: How do I turn off power button instant lock?
Android always has this option, but for some reason I can't find it in settings!
In my MT2-L05 EMUI3.0 it's in Settings/Security/Power button instantly locks.

Wow, I just tried it myself and I get the same problem. Good job, Huawei...
Ya... and I'm having a hard time finding a module. any help would be appreciated
My HAM2 doesn't have this problem. I have the Delayed Lock app from the play store which modifies the locking though. I've also frozen the hwunlock lock screen since it was interfering.

Happy to hear. Also if you want to clean up the notification, the Delayed Lock app can still run if you hide it's notification (long press on it then uncheck show notifications), it still works fine and the Notification bar is clean. Mine is set to auto lock after about 20 mins from when I turn off my screen and I also created a shortcut on my home screen to instantly lock it and turn off the screen (have to set wake to lock mode in the settings of the app). If you want to a shortcut like that you can do this in Nova Launcher (or something similar in other launchers). Long press and empty space on the homescreen. Choose shortcuts then delayed lock shortcuts then Lock now (which also turns off the screen).

Fully customise OPX'S capacitive buttons

Rooting and custom kernels has really opened up how much I can push my phones battery life and this hasn't been helped more so than with greenify.
However, when lots of apps start and I want to lock my device, unless I use the hibernate and lock screen shortcut, the battery drain while in standby is present.
Currently, in the OOS buttons section I have my long press or home button set to lock my phone but what I'm really after is for it to lock+hibernate at the same time. Over the past few days I've tried as many different ways as I can and was most hopeful that gravitybox would do the trick but even if I set my buttons in OOS to none, it appears as though this overrides it or gravitybox is not recognising the capacitive buttons on the device
I appreciate any help on any other ways to go about doing this.
Thanks.
I haven't tried this, but what about Tasker? Should be as easy as setting up a profile which launches/activates the hibernation app/widget then use the Secure Settings plugin to lock the screen. You could then assign it to a button in your notification area or activate it when you turn the display off. Just an idea.

Hmm, didn't think about that, I'll give it a go. Cheers.
Heres the solution!
Go to button setting
Keep the long press (home) to search assistant.
And if greenify is installed with xposed , then long press the home button and a pop up will show u to choose ,
Hibernate+sleep ,
Tap on it and tap on always,
And u r ready to hibernate and sleep the device by long pressing ur home button.
It works on cm12.1 and i m using it , but i believe it will work on every rom!

That seems like a great idea! Weirdly though I just tried it and for some reason the screen is still turning off with the long press... Even after a reboot. Odd right?
No idea what's conflicting with it. However your idea seems to work as I managed to the same with the recents capacitive button.
Thanks though, hopefully I can figure it out!
