Fully customise OPX'S capacitive buttons - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Rooting and custom kernels has really opened up how much I can push my phones battery life and this hasn't been helped more so than with greenify.
However, when lots of apps start and I want to lock my device, unless I use the hibernate and lock screen shortcut, the battery drain while in standby is present.
Currently, in the OOS buttons section I have my long press or home button set to lock my phone but what I'm really after is for it to lock+hibernate at the same time. Over the past few days I've tried as many different ways as I can and was most hopeful that gravitybox would do the trick but even if I set my buttons in OOS to none, it appears as though this overrides it or gravitybox is not recognising the capacitive buttons on the device
I appreciate any help on any other ways to go about doing this.
Thanks.

I haven't tried this, but what about Tasker? Should be as easy as setting up a profile which launches/activates the hibernation app/widget then use the Secure Settings plugin to lock the screen. You could then assign it to a button in your notification area or activate it when you turn the display off. Just an idea.

Hmm, didn't think about that, I'll give it a go. Cheers.

Heres the solution!
Go to button setting
Keep the long press (home) to search assistant.
And if greenify is installed with xposed , then long press the home button and a pop up will show u to choose ,
Hibernate+sleep ,
Tap on it and tap on always,
And u r ready to hibernate and sleep the device by long pressing ur home button.
It works on cm12.1 and i m using it , but i believe it will work on every rom!

That seems like a great idea! Weirdly though I just tried it and for some reason the screen is still turning off with the long press... Even after a reboot. Odd right?
No idea what's conflicting with it. However your idea seems to work as I managed to the same with the recents capacitive button.
Thanks though, hopefully I can figure it out!

[Q] How To navigate Android Applications?

I just got my CM7 up and running on my NC.
As someone who spend most of his life using PC applications, I think running an Android take some getting used-to.
My question, when you move from one menu (inside an app) to another, how do you navigate back, like the <- button on a browser.
For example, I was running the the File Manager, and with one false touch, it went into the Advanced Feature (Exclude from media scan). Now I am struck in this page, hitting the n button just terminated the app, but if I am to restart it, it went right back to the same page.
Now I am frustrated as hell
Dont you have the Back button at the notification area together with the rest of touch buttons like Home, Options etc?
Once inside the page (also happened in other app too), there is only two ways out: hitting n or press the power button until the menu showed up. And I don't see the kind of options you mentioned.
Go to Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Tablet Tweaks >
then uncheck "Disable Fullscreen".
But, when I entered the screen you mentioned, my status bar never goes away...
You should have some icons on your status bar, there..
Also under Tablet Tweaks setting, under Choose soft-buttons, make sure Menu and Back are at least checked.
Which version of CM are you running anywho? These soft buttons were added quite a while ago.
I was using the Encore 164.
When I run the Cyanogenmod Settings, it crashed with the message The application has stopped unexpectedly, please try again.
The problem just repeated.
I don't know if it will help you but this is what you're looking for.

It's in the status bar. The instructions above are to make sure the status bar is showing and that you haven't somehow removed the back button. If you still can't get CyanogenMod Settings to open you might try restarting your Nook. That's one PC trick that still applies to Android.
I rebooted the NC many times, and without CyanogenMod Settings to run, look like I am out of luck .

Use the rom manager to flash the latest nightly, the installation should take care of your issue for you.
Something else that might help:
/settings/cyanogenmod settings/tablet tweaks/choose unhide button
I have mine set for volume down.
If I ever lose the status bar, I can just hit volume down to make it show again, and get that back button available again.
Now you can make it go away when watching movies or playing games, and if you need to use it you can summon it at your whim.
Thanks to all those responded.
I have since redid my CM7 (format/clear cache, data and what not) and after that, I could see the soft <- button at the bottom of the screen and cyanogenmod settings is no longer crashed.
Again, a big THANK YOU to all of you!

I think they should have one button like that but the lock screen does kind of the same thing...
What kind of functionality would the hold button have that differs from the lock screen? They both act the same way, so why put an extra button on an android device that isn't going to be used?

What different is when i watch youtube and accidentally press the screen or the button the video still plays
So, if I have correctly understood your wish, you would like the power button to stop running applications when the screen is locked or at least to stop YouTube and music playing.
Though I am still making the first steps into android's knowledge, I think the only way would be rewriting the single apps in order to tell them to stop working (killed? Frozen?) when the screen is locked. I suppose that's their behavior in ios. On the other side, it would be a no way out remapping the power button so that it could close all running apps or some of them, because a bunch of Google code should be rewritten to modify its standard behavior. Another solution could be remapping a physical key for it to launch a single software (still to be written) whose aim should be to kill o freeze the above said applications.
IMHO it is so simple tapping on the running app and pressing the power button that no developer will ever spend a lot of time to build a solution like the ones I have just spoken about and, though I see it's a matter of taste, I think it would be better accepting android as it is
A lot of programs already has that. I think MX player has a button that locks out the control
Oh yes, it is true. I had never noticed that feature!
Do MX player lock works on all apps or only when you have mx player running
how about when you browse and watch Flash movie on flash website
I am looking for ways to prevent accidental button press ..
pressing the power button turns off the screen as well.
It's not on all the apps. But some do, like MX. Maybe this stuff should go on the android design site
you mean each app developer has to keep this in mind?
maybe I can suggest to youtube, skyfire and dolphin browser app to add the feature
other reading app .. where you can spend a long time on one single page.
I think YouTube kindaa has this. Where I think if you don't see the controls any more, you have to tap the screen once to activate the controls before you can use them.

[Q] Power button instant lock - how to turn off?

Hi, got HAM2. Very impressed. Wish it had Qi, but aside really good.
Q: How do I turn off power button instant lock?
Android always has this option, but for some reason I can't find it in settings!
In my MT2-L05 EMUI3.0 it's in Settings/Security/Power button instantly locks.

Wow, I just tried it myself and I get the same problem. Good job, Huawei...
Ya... and I'm having a hard time finding a module. any help would be appreciated
My HAM2 doesn't have this problem. I have the Delayed Lock app from the play store which modifies the locking though. I've also frozen the hwunlock lock screen since it was interfering.

Happy to hear. Also if you want to clean up the notification, the Delayed Lock app can still run if you hide it's notification (long press on it then uncheck show notifications), it still works fine and the Notification bar is clean. Mine is set to auto lock after about 20 mins from when I turn off my screen and I also created a shortcut on my home screen to instantly lock it and turn off the screen (have to set wake to lock mode in the settings of the app). If you want to a shortcut like that you can do this in Nova Launcher (or something similar in other launchers). Long press and empty space on the homescreen. Choose shortcuts then delayed lock shortcuts then Lock now (which also turns off the screen).

[SHARE][APP] SwiftOpen - Fast Launcher

Hello. Yesterday, i was searching for an launcher (NOT a home launcher} which allow me to run apps more quickly from any app I'm running at an moment.
I found this app named SwiftOpen. It's thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-swiftopen-fast-launcher-beta-t2871523 .
It allow you to add apps shortcuts, even some settings like wifi, so you can put wifi on more easy. You swipe from right (you can change the place from where to swipe) and the launcher come.Read the whole description of it's thread. Oh, and don't forget to press thanks button to the developer
Review / My opinion:
In my opinion it does a great job. I don't even have to press home button to go in another app. It use about 15 MB ram. Last night i had 58% battery and i kept this app running in background and today, in the morning, i had same battery percent. So, it seems that it doesn't drain battery.
Now i don't even need to use the home button, as i placed an shortcut of "home" in the bottom left
I downloaded the latest version released. I encountered one bug: when i want to change the place of an shortcut, the app crash, but the shortcut get moved.
Here is an screenshot. You see an white square in the right, it's because i kept my finger there to take an screenshot, otherwise the launcher dissapear. By the way, you can add more shortcuts, even Tasker ones !!!

Also found this app recently, it's the best launcher by a long shot. I have a G4 and I hate the softkeys taking up screen space, as you mentioned this app means you don't need any other buttons or home button.
Thanks for the tip to put this launcher in the place of the home button, I had it on the side but now that you mention it that's naturally the best spot to put it.
Do you use it on Lollipop and use the Alt-tab feature?
That's not working for me on 5.1, think it's a lollipop issue?

Question Recommendations for Assistant Apps to lock screen (Long press Home Button to lock screen gone with Oxygen OS 12)

Hey folks,
tl;dr: OOS 12 removed long press Home to lock device. Apps to replace Assistant function to allow it again disable fingerprint to unlock device.
I did some research on the long press feature of the Home Button (Assistant Button), becauase I wondered that this feature has been removed with Oxygen OS 12. Since I am trying to avoid wear to the physical buttons, I'm searching for an alternative.
Luckily there are apps that replace the Assistant feature to allow custom actions, including locking the device. I tested the following apps:
Lock Screen (F-Droid)
Assistant Gesture Tweaks (Paid)
All of them disable the fingerprint feature on the lock screen. I already tried to disable PIN, password and delete all of my fingerprints as recommended on OP forums, but still I can't use the fingerprint to unlock the device. If I remove the device administration privilege, it's possible again, but I can't lock the device using the Home Button.
Do you have recommendations?
Root, install Magisk, install LSPosed, install GravityBox. All customs settings at your disposal.
Wait so basically you are looking for a feature to lock the device without pressing the lock button?
Settings > Home screen and lock screen > Enable double tap to lock
This let's you double tap a blank area on the home screen to lock device.
You can also check the lock screen shortcuts in the same settings page too.

Thanks for your reply, but exactly this feature has been removed with OOS 12. There are multiple threads about it on the OP forums.
I took two Screenshots of the settings, one with OP Nord 2 running OOS 12 and OP Nord running OOS 11.

Hold to lock has been replaced by the "mass move icons" feature from ColorOS, and hence the feature has been changed to a double tap to lock feature and can be found as a toggle under Home screen and lock screen.
Holding on the home screen now allows you to mass select icons to bulk-move them, hence the hold to lock has been deprecated and replaced by double tap to lock.
Note you can even tap in between icons on the home screen to lock your device with this feature. These are pictures from OOS 12 depicting the replacement feature's location on OOS12
As your goal is to avoid wear and tear of the physical buttons this should be an adequate solution, no?
Thanks a lot for your description, @Zombnombs! First of all: sorry, I've mistaken the software version - I'm currently on OOS 11, even on my Nord 2. I just searched for the issue and found posts online concerning OOS 12.
Indeed, double tap to lock is a functional alternative. I even use double tap to wake already. But what I'm curious about is, that my settings look very different from your screenshots. I uploaded a short video of it here. I'm on V11.3 right now.
But I tried to check the Launcher settings by holding the home screen background and select "Home settings". There I found the toggle for double tap to lock!
Thanks again for your help.
