I bought a cigarette car adapter 12v with MiniUSb plug at the end (says for Motorola V3), but thought I could use it on my Hermes. It seems to charge (maybe a little slower charging that the one I had been using, which got destroyed), and is of good quality compared to my cheap ebay one that I had. It has smart charge protection in it. Someone had told me that any cigarette car charger meant for blackberrys, Motorolas etc that had a MiniUSb plug at the end could be used for the Hermes. Are they wrong?, Should I be worried about it hurting my device? The one I bought is through Cellgear.com,,sorry, the specs on the charger don't appear on the site.
If it is charging a little more slowly, then you are probably ok. Really, if we were all going by the book, we would check the charge rates and voltage outputs against the specs laid out by HTC.
One problem you may face is the the refusing to charge unless the device is switched off syndrome. This can happen with chargers not designed for the Hermes due to differences (it is thought) in the earthing connections. So although it may deliver a charge on the appropriate pins it can sometimes not allow the charging circuit to kick in due to the earth connection difference.
Just something to be aware of if it happens.

v3 usb charger
sure it will charge your phone, in fact I've found any mini usb will do the job, HOW-EVER if the phone is soft reset then the charger is pluged in it will charge ok, BUT once you "use" the phone it tends to stop charging..thats cause the real chargers are wired a little different.
my other half has a V3, my BT gps uses mini usb as does my BT headset, so I just use whatever is around and put up with the problem.
hope this helps

I've been using the following devices to charge my 8525.
My HTC supplied 8525 Charger.
My Motorola V3 Razr Charger
My Motorola V3 Razr Car Charger
My Nextel Blackberry Charger
My Nextel Blackberry Car Charger
Mini USB to PC (linux, win2k, winxp, vista, etc..)
Mini USB to laptop
Mini USB to CABLE BOX (DVR and Non-DVR)
Mini USB to Nintendo Wii
Mini USB to Playstation 2
Mini USB to Playstation 3
Mini USB to HP C6100 Series printer
All of them charge the phone with no issues.
I've found that Blackberry chargers work a bit better than Motorola chargers. I think the Moto chargers provide less amperage than the Blackberry ones. This means it may charge, but more slowly. If your battery is completely dead, the Moto charger may not be able to allow you to boot the Hermes. I think the Blackberry charger will.
The other thing is that cheap chargers, especially car chargers are pretty...cheap. I finally bought a name-brand charger and it's a lot more stable and better built that the generics. If you're gentle with your stuff it may not be a problem, but things sometime get thrown around in my car.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if these USB car chargers are compatible for the TP2?

I'm asking because I remember in the past I used a HTC charger to charge the O2 XDA Flame and it charged. However, the phone started acting VERY weird and freeze a lot. I ended up having to hard reset it
Thanks!
I think any USB charger for electronic gaget that has a output of 5.0 v should work. It does not matter if it is an AC charger or and car lighter charger. I got one of these AC and another car lighter charger. There are all 5.0 v output. I use them to charge Ipod and phones.

It's best to choose one that can supply enough current (I think the wall charger supplies 2A, but 1A should be ok). Some devices will still trickle charge with a lower current, but others just won't trigger the charging circuits at all.
I had a cheap car charger that seemed to work ok most of the time, but it got worryingly hot after a while.
My TP2 came with an official HTC charger, so I use that now and it's great.
I have noticed that if the phone is OFF then 1A is not enough and usually stops charging but if the phone is ON it completes the charge..but takes for ever.
Has anyone experienced the charging overheat situation where the led flashes orange and green? I dont know if that is the situation but it only happens when I am charging in the car and the unit gets hot.
My old "OEM HTC" charger I got on ebay (the one with the blue HTC light) just stopped charging my phone after about 10-15 uses.
It lights on (charger), but my phone doesn't catch any charge lol
I got a 1A one, and unfortunately it cannot produce enough juice when running the GPS (copilot), after a while the phone shows a message telling the charge current is not enough.
The wall charger that came with the original box is 1A too, thus the problem might be with the cheap car charger.
Brando sells a 2A car adapter that should do the trick. They're out of stock right now, but it may be worth a look.
Hey!
Mine is a cheapo but does the trick. Charges the phone with satnav running, today went from 23% to full in less than 3 hours. Plus it's really tiny so I can keep my ashtray closed all the time. Using it with mini retractable cable, it all fits in the ashtray and it's handy to use.

The manual states that the output of the AC charger is 5.0 volts and 1 amp. That means the output of the DC/car charger should be the same. Using a 2 amp current might be charging the device faster but it would probably generate more heat and might shorten the battery life.
one tip, regardless of which charger you end up with, is to not leave the phone plugged in while starting the car. my understanding is that there can be be large voltage surges or fluctuations during the startup. depending on the design on the voltage converter inside the charger, some of that may be making it through to the phone.
i once had a AA NiCd battery smart charger that went wonky after using it in the car a lot, but that was with a straight-through 12V car to charger connector.
I made my own charger for using as a GPS on my motorcycles.
There is a charge select line in the plug. If the phone detects that it is connected to a USB port, the phone will not 'pull' more the 500ma. If that line is set to indicate a non USB port, then the phone will pull 1 amp. MAX (I never saw more then 900ma myself).
If you have the wrong charge plug, it may only charge at 500ma. If you have the correct plug and the charger can manage 5 amps, the phone will still only take 1 amp max.
For a while I used the phone in a waterproof box called an Aquabox. It would overheat during charging. I now only charge the phone when it is not in an enclosed hot space.
I'm still using the off-brand 'for Blackberry' car charger I got back when I had my Kaiser. Seems to be working just fine with this phone as well.
I don't find a car charger powerful enough to Charge my Phone.
What is the right choice??
Brodit active charger.
I use it while navigating with the screen on and overclocked and charges just fine.
There are plenty of cigarette lighter chargers which offer a USB port instead of a dedicated cable. Simply use your phone's USB cable with this charger. Mine cost like £3.50, and it works just fine on my Hero.
Been using a Technocel Platinum MV3CPCP that came with a Moto Razr v3 with my HTC Sensation and used it previously with a BB8900 with no issues. When in the car listening to the Music app and GPS nav runnin' it eventually drains the battery meaning that the fone is using more power than the charger is providing but it is a USB charger putting out nominal power so this must mean the the fone can use more power than is provided while charging by normal means, yes? ... anyone else with a similar experience?
TIA
Any cigarette lighter USB adapter will be fine to just stick your USB cable into.

Are all USB car chargers like this? Can I prevent this by getting a higher quality charger? When I'm not using maps or navigation (or turn off the screen for a while), then it'll slowly charge back up.

GPS is usually a big energy hog. How many amps is your car charger?
You should be able to get away with a higher amperage charger, but the trade off may be reduced battery life.

How fast does it discharge? I just went on an out of state trip last week and had gps on with the charger plugged in for several hours at a time. I didn't pay attention to the actual charge numbers, but it either discharges very gradually or charges very gradually. I could probably run it all day with the charger and gps without a problem. I don't recall the amp output of my car charger, but it is one of the cheap foreign models.

Reflash your ROM, dude. I had that problem on one of my initial GB ROM's where I had bad drain using GPS while charging in my car. I redownloaded and wiped everything and reflashed the ROM and everything was good.

If you are running a custom ROM, you can use SetCPU (or any other CPU clock control app that allows profiles) to set max of 800MHz when plugged in. This should at least get you to even charge/discharge levels when plugged in and running GPS while driving. Probably will depend on your screen brightness.
I don't run GPS long term very often right now, but I was for a while and FWIW, I was able to stream pandora, run google maps with screen on, not have any lag, and get a slow charge from my car charger by limiting clock speed to 800MHz.
Your other option (and what I usually do) is turn off the screen during longer sections of GPS nav with no turns (like sections of highway). You'll still get audible notifications for the next turn/maneuver/interchange/whatever, and you can turn the display on then if you need visual along with audio nav. The phone shouldn't have any problem charging and running GPS with the screen off...

Not all USB car chargers are alike. You need two things:
1. The car charger outputs higher current than 500ma. You need at least 700ma.
2. The charger is wired correctly to be recognized by phone as AC charger instead of PC USB port so that the phone will actually draw more than 500ma for charging. You can go to phone's status page to read what charge mode it is using.
Most iDevice chargers will not meet #2.
I have a stock Samsung car charger and it charges my phone while using Google Nav.
Thanks for the tips guys.
My phone discharges at around 1% every 20 minutes or so. I've been doing things like turning the screen off during periods of downtime to help with this (actually charges when I do this).
I'm using cheapy car adapter actually that has two usb ports and 2 cigarette ports in it and I use that with a samsung branded usb cable.
Hm yeah I'll try and see if limiting the CPU will help and if it does perhaps I'll just do that from now on.

Do you know of any other options that are wired correctly to draw more than 500ma? I think I did hear from somewhere that charging via usb is considerably slower than when using the wall charger. Do you know of any other options that would fulfill this requirement besides getting the stock Samsung car charger? Also I assume just finding a higher amp charger wouldn't work if the phone detects it as a usb charger instead of an AC charger?

The correctly wired charger will typically short the USB data PINs. iPhone charges and most generic car chargers with UBS ports don't do that. Most HTC chargers and Motorola chargers will work on Samsung phones. You need take a look at your car charger to see how much amps it can supply (listed on the spec label). The PC usb can only output 500ma max per spec. It is not enough to charge the phone while keep the screen on, GPS running and 3G connection active. Your Samsung OEM wall charger is rated 700ma. So, you need a car charger that outputs at least 700ma.
You then need to verify from the phone that the particular charger is recorgnized by the phone as AC charger. Without that, the phone will only draw 500ma max.
Hello,
I have purchased the HTC Bluetooth Music Adapter from Sprint (also known as the HTC Car StereoClip): http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-car-stereoclip-audio-bridge-a100.html
I've been using it for about a week now, and the battery has completely depleted for the first time. I noticed that I am not able to charge it using a vehicle power charger . I used the included USB cable, and it charges just fine with several different wall chargers I have lying around. It charges fine from a PC or laptop USB port. But when I try to charge it from the vehicle power adapter, nothing happns.
I have an official HTC dual car charger: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OQUJRQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00. This charger is rated (like the standard HTC wall chargers) to put out a current of 1A per each outlet. So I don't understand why this Music Adapter will charge via a wall charger, but not a vehicle, and they have the same output, and are made by the same company. I double checked that the vehicle charger works with other devices. It will charge my HTC EVO 4G LTE, my Jawbone ICON bluetooth headset, as well as other friends' phones.
Does anyone else have problems getting their HTC Bluetooth StereoClip to charge? I know it's not the end of the world--I can always take it inside the house to charge it when it dies every few days, but it sure would be convenient to just have it charge in the car overnight without having to remember to tote it back and forth.
Please help!!
Thanks.
Um, I looked at the pictures of this device. When you are in your car, are you plugging your charger into the phones charging port? Not the port on the Bluetooth adapter. Your phone will never charge if you are plugged into the Bluetooth adapters port.
Are you trying to use it while it is being charged? I think i read before that the stereoclip uses the BT to stream the sound, and i've had a few bluetooth headsets that didn't work if it was being charged, and won't charge if you're actively using it (just tried out of curiosity). Only thing i can recommend is to try a single microusb cigarette charger, maybe its the way the charger is wired.
---------- Post added at 12:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:39 PM ----------
One question that is unrelated to this charging issue: in the bluetooth pairing settings for the stereoclip, does it do phone mode as well as media or just media? My car's headunit does phone and i'd like to see if i can just have each device handle a separate stream.
Hmm. Interesting. Mine charges fine using a rocketfish/best buy car adapter I have and a generic micro usb cable I got from Monoprice. Charging occurs on mine when it's off or on, streaming or not. The adapter and cable also work to charge my phone and jawbone too.
Maybe try change your usb cable or car adapter?

When in the car, my phone sits in the car dock...on the windshield, so yes it is plugged into one of the ports. And I plug another USB cable (from the 2nd port) into the BT Music Adapter. It won't charge. I have to take it inside and charge it from a wall charger.

Okay...I had a spare Rocketfish vehicle charger lying around, and I just went out to the car and tried it. It charges just fine fine!! However, an official HTC vehicle charger with an official HTC USB cable won't charge an official HTC accessory...WEIRD.
So problem "temporarily" solved: I have to have to keep TWO vehicle chargers in the car--the dual HTC for the car dock, and the rocketfish for the HTC bluetooth adapter. This really sucks, and defeats the purpose of me buying a dual adapter. Or, I could just bring the adapter in every 4 or 5 days and charge it inside. It gets about 5 hours of music streaming before it dies. Oh well...
The issue I have with mine is that if I plug it into my Bose soundlink aux port and connect to it, it actually sounds better then just connecting to the soundlink itself. Using the new Apt-x and all.
But I plug it into my car aux in and it doesn't sound any better then my universal one I'd been using on a2dp

The dual charger could be splitting the Amps, I've heard of 2A adapters pushing 2 to one port or 1 and 1 if 2 things are plugged in. Did you try charging the BT adapter without the phone plugged into the second port? The BT adapter probably requires a specific minimum amperage where as the phone will just go into USB charging instead of wall charging mode if under 1A.
I tried every possible combination. And I have verified that it puts out simulataneously 2A (1A + 1A). I connected my EVO 4G LTE, plus a friends original EVO 4G, and they both showed "AC Charghing," which means 1A. And of course, I tried charging the StereoClip with nothing else. I don't get it.

Weird is right. I have a dual output car charger in my other car & it works fine with that one too, with 2 devices plugged in. My dual is a generic one I got from Monoprice.
My only other suggestion would be to find a different dual head charger.

It will pair with anything. I use it with my Nexus 7 mainly.
And just as a precaution.. Don't leave this in your car if it is hot where you live.
I had mine in my car, for probably a month. Never used it other then when i first got it to verify it worked. Went to use it again, nada..
Wouldnt charge, wouldnt turn on, nothin. I'm assuming the 100+ degree heat for a month+ destroyed the battery. Sprint provides a 1 year warranty on their accessories, so i was able to swap it out no issue though.

Yes, it will pair with anything. My first HTC EVO 4G LTE (stupid) decided to break, so I was stuck with a Samsung Intercept as a loaner phone for awhile. It will pair with any bluetooth device, however...if that device doesn't support the new apt-X coding technology (like the EVO 4G LTE), the audio may not be as clear, and the connection will likely have intermittent skips (as with the Samsung Intercept).
