[Q] Benchmark results after ota? - HTC EVO 3D

I know its real world usage that is what we go by for performance but after the new ota all my benchmarks so far are good except linpack. Linpack scores are now almost half what they were before the update. Can anyone else confirm this?
Benchmarks arent everything but as a tool they can give us hints to any problems especially when scores are reduces 50%.

Nobody else can run linpack to confirm?

Looks Like it who knows why I don't really care tho, phone seems fine to me, I saw top 10 and desire hd beats the EVO 3d LOL

I have the same problem. My linpack went from high 60s to mid 70s down to as low as 29. Usually around 40 now. Also noticed almost every test is inconsistent result.
Antutu score went from 4400 to around 3600 mainly due to float point score being greatly reduced.
I did a factory reset before the update and moved all apps and such to my SD. Once it booted up from ota it also won't pull my apps. Pics and music pulls but apps are nowhere to be found....not a fan of the update.

I know Quadrant is not a good benchmark but mine went down a little after the 2.0.x OTA as well. Was 2100. Now 2000.
Mike

My quadrant actually went down quite a bit as well. I was getting around 2200 consistantly with every one around 2450 every so often. Now I am around 2000 or so and around 2100 on the high end.
I even had one that came in at 1442 and I was like WTF!
I noticed that smartbench is pretty much the same as always.
I am a bit curious to see if anyone else is having these issues as well though. It would seem that at least one other person has noticed it. Anyone else?

It could be that they are allocating CPU resources differently now and the benchmark programs are not able to dominate one (or both) cores as much as they used to. That might not be a bad thing. I say that because, overall, the phone seems quite a bit snappier after the update. Scrolling seems smoother. Apps seem to open/close faster. Sense 3.0 just seems a little more fluid.
Mike

i got the same results with linpack. went from 60's to anywhere from 20's to 50's with the occasional 60's if i keep trying. very inconsistent. it doesn't feel slower though. on the plus side it seems my battery is lasting longer.

Whatever they did it doesn't seem to affect real world performance on my phone, just crazy that the benchmarks have dropped so dramatically.

Benchmarks dont mean a damn thing!___
R.I.P. HD2 hello EVO 3D!!

Im sorry benchmarks may not show how fast real world performance is but they can be helpfull, they can show us issues not shown. Linpack tests cpu calculations right? So after an update the score is cut in half so this could be a hint to an issue unseen by real world usage. I dont care whos faster or whatever but if i saw this happen on my gaming pc id be worried. Just sayin its worth looking into.

Neat story. I used my EVO for a few days and this phone is definitely a big improvement. I guess it depends on what you consider an upgrade is. This update is as incremental as any... Anyone here use iPhones in the past? Do you recall the updates? Basically the same damn phone until the iP4. I guess technology just hasn't moved all that far in a year to appease everyone.

Why? His reception, speaker volume, 3G signal strength, and camera quality, are likely better now.
Who cares? You dont like it take it back. Why do people come here and report it everytime?

There's no denying the dual core 1.2Ghz processor is faster than the first Evo. That alone is enough of an upgrade IMO. And I think the camera quality is better on my Evo 3D than the Evo 4G. I'm taking pics side by side and like the richer colors on the newer Evo. Battery life has been better too...although, Sprint's signal has been sucking as of late on any phone so can't blame that on the Evo.

Sprint claims that their "technicians are looking into this" blah blah blah "towers" blah blah blah....I am suspicious that it's about lowering radiation standards in reaction to a well publicized 'best/worst of: radiation: thing that was published a few months ago that some people took rather seriously...in addition to some cancer studies regarding cellphone frequency radiation that were also rather compelling....
data-speed wise I was told that "our computers are having trouble with phone swaps" which would explain why getting your line re-provisioned has pretty good results...and the cdma/auto trick is likely leftovers of a botched profile provisioning.
The evo4G has bigger pix, the evo3d has sharp pix, better colors...the low-light performance seems crappy on both--we've heard both sides of the fence from, well, both sides of the fence.
but, damn, DAT RESOLUTION.
The 3d felt faster, and had a sharper screen. It also had more ROM space.. but not enough..
I have my Evo 4g hacked so that the partition sizes are customized - i.e. more space for /data, less space for /system and /cache - this was giving me 700mb usable space for /data.
The evo 3d, despite having 4gb ROM, only had 1gb available for /data (so not much of a difference.. )
I have never managed to take a decent 3d picture on it..
Battery life - was expecting it to be better then the evo.. but it's about the same, running similar apps (obviously w/ sense on top on the 3d)
RAM - obviously the additional ram helped in being able to run more apps without the apps closing in the background.. but the evo was good enough..
Kickstand.. I know it's a small point, but I really missed the kickstand. we have a wifi baby monitor, and use the evo all the time w/ the kickstand while on the couch/etc.. Missed the evo 3d not having the kickstand
Button layout - I love that the evo 3d has a shutter button - BUT it made it incompatible with my vehicle dock (the volume buttons or shutter button kept getting pressed while docked). In the ~3 weeks that I had the evo 3d, I had taken probably 300 pictures on it (we just had a newborn.. and the best camera is the one in your pockeet already..) - started w/ 3d pictures first few days.. switched to 2d pics later.. and found myself using the onscreen shuttter more often then the hardware butto.
HDMI - I already have the hdmi cable for the evo.. would have had to buy the adapter for the evo 3d..
Overall, I felt that the evo 3d was an ok upgrade, and was definatey faster (especially while browsing) - but.. personally i would rather skip this one..

anyone else getting low quadrant acores?

Originally my phone averaged about 3250 but now I can't even get 3100. Anyone know a fix for this?
Why do you worry about the quadrant scores do much? All it does is give you an approximate score everytime.

all I'm worried about is the drop in performance. It could have affected something other than my quadrant score

It wouldn't matter, since quadrant is pretty meaningless nowadays. It could just have been an extra app that is running in the background. Simple as that lol

If you are worried about lower synthetic benchmark scores, load cm7 nightlies. I can get 5000 without any tricks out of the box with the cpu OC'd at 1.6GHz. If you don't perceive any slowness or excess battery drain and the scores themselves don't mean anything to you then don't sweat it.

does it FEEL slower? does it lag? if not, then dont worry about it.
Is it still low if you run it a few times? Third run is usually the highest for me. The fact that the phone still has scores over 3,000 is incredible. Worry when it dips into the 1,000s.
In the end, Quadrant scores don't matter too much. It's all about how it feels during every day use. Does your phone lag now? I doubt it. Scores are affected by many things, including how many apps you have installed or are currently running in the background. In addition, scores can be easily manipulated!

+1 on this. Unless I notice a change in something whether it's UI response or certain Apps lagging or taking longer than usual to open, I won't do anything based simply on my Quad scores. They seem way too inconsistent as it is running them back to back multiple times.
I did close all the apparently but the phone is still lagging.
So the phone is lagging? Examples of some symptoms?
If you haven't rooted or done anything to it, take it back to AT&T and let them take a look at it.

I believe that means your battery is overheating. I think it happened to me on my og EVO once. I set my phone down turned it off came back later and it was all better!

Yeah..pretty common with some evo3d's..the battery isnt making good contact on the points..just put a little piece of cardboard or something between battery and the inner rim of the phone to help push the battery into the gold points of the phone..I had this problem and never seen it again after doing this.

LMAO go talk to Sprint and get a new phone. These so called "fixes" are the reason why manufacturers don't give a **** about quality products anymore, too many people settle with broken ****.
Oh and by the way, let's say his battery is overheating and he takes your advice; cardboard/paper catches fire... And he now has no phone.

pretty sure he can tell if his phone is over heating if he really wanted to..the cardboard is no where near where the battery connects to the points. So if it magically catches fire then I guess you would be right..As for the manufactures not caring about quality control sure I get your point. But thats not the point of the thread. He asked why its happining and there are only 2 ways it has ever happend to me.Over heating and/or battery not making good contact..Just offered a simple "fix" for the moment. If it doesn't fly with him then he can go waste his time getting a replacement that may very well do the same thing.
What kernel are you using? That can have an affect on it too

According to another thread, this phenomenon is known as "randomly sausage". (I really hope I'm not the only one that understands this)
Hello,
Of a similar bent, multiple times since I had a Refurbished 3D sent to me, the Battery has drained to zero whilst being plugged in to the Charger. This has primarily occurred when plugged into the Wall as opposed to say my Laptop. It happened again this Morning.
When I insert a different Battery, it seems to fix the problem and the 3D Charges as usual. However, this is one damn annoying issue.
Cheers,
JJ

[Q] Overheating?

Getting my phone tomorrow and am concerned reading several reviews saying it overheats? Is this a problem for anyone? How frequent does it occur? Should I be worried? Thank you in advance!
I usually run my screen at 50 and I've had 2 times when I worried about temp. Once was when my text bogged up trying to send had 4 sending at same time. The phone began getting real hot I deleted text restarted phone then retyped text and temps dropped. Second time was when I went to send an email. Seemed like it took a while to send once it showed sent in my sent box the phone began to lower on temps. Both times this happens I was on WiFi and with losing net I switch from 3g and 4g all day. Not sure where the problem was but it went away quickly

No problems like that on my end. Although most people don't realize that these smartphones can actually run pretty hot around 100 F or so and that's normal, although it is very unsettling feeling your $600 device get that hot.
I'd be curious to see people use something like System Monitor that shows what their phones are running at during the day.

Unless people are playing games or watching videos, the phone shouldn't be that bad, people probably could do a little better job of debloating and hibernating things and their phones wouldn't get so hot... Just my opinion though!

x2. Any heavy processing load will cause it to get hot, when the processor kicks into high gear a lot of electricity runs through it and will raise the temp a significant amount. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Processors are typically designed with temperature controls which will slow the processor down when it gets too hot. You don't have anything to worry about.
Plus, if something does happen to your phone you would be covered by warranty and insurance if you have it.

Benchmarks Thread

Hi everyone.
Now I know that benchmarks are relatively pointless, as my Mate 2 scores about 5000 more points than my old Note 2, yet they feel very comparable in performance.
I also own an Xperia Z Ultra, which is pretty fast, scoring about 37000 in Antutu, but I can't say I particularly enjoy using it compared to the Mate 2, even though it has has a 6.44" 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 800.
I also briefly owned a brand new Oneplus One till my girlfriend decided she loved it and she wanted it as her new phone, lol and that thing is like lightning, scoring about 47000 points just at stock with no tweaks to it, yet again, I don't actually like the device as much as my Mate 2 for some reason. I think the stupendous battery life of the Mate 2 is more Important to me than raw speed for what I use my phone for.
I was curious about how the Hisilicon Kirin 910 in my MT2-L05 stacks up against the Snapdragon in the MT2-L03.
Anyway, Here are my scores with Antutu Benchmark :

... I was not expecting that!
I'm surprised too, my HAM2 just feels so snappy. I dread using anything else like my tablet, laptop, TV, etc... because everything else around me seems to be laboring through tasks while my HAM2 zips along without complaint.
Sent from my MT2L03 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm surprised too. I thought they would be closer. Maybe the 4.4.2 update has given the China versions a better score? Although saying that, I benchmarked twice with Antutu when I first got my phone on 4.2.2 and that gave me around 28,500 both times.
Benchmarks now, for me anyway, don't really mean anything. I use to be one of those "gotta have the fastest" types, but,
the Mate2 changed my perspective. For what I use, mainly phone, web, text, photos, the Mate2 is fast. The price & the battery
won me over, but the performance is fast enough. All these new hot rod devices are just overkill.
