try fasterfix (from the market) or the instantenous gps fixation
Note: In case you are sitting in a building in front of a computer and "testing" the GPS, then do not even bother.
i am also facing same issues even outdoors too. gps doesn't come up in the notification bar

I had that issue with the official 2.2.1. The fix is to remove the battery while the cel is still on, turn the power on without the battery, wait a few seconds, insert battery and power on again. Seems pathetic but worked for me and only needed to do it once. Try it. Good luck.
Thank you , lol no was testing outdoors

I've flashed the latest franco kernel(19.4 cfs) on an lg optimus 1 running cm 6.5.7 and gps doesn't get a fix anymore. Gpsfix finds satelits but gmaps and igo can't get a location. I've tried the gps.conf file posted above, still deosn't work. I've tried franco 19.4 bfs, still nothing; franco 19.3 cfs, still no luck. Help?

How do you run your gps? Do you need to install ndrive/navdroyd or similar apps first?

Tried it like you said. gps fix and gps test find the satelites a lot faster( ultra fast!) but navigation apps like gmaps, igo, rmaps don't get a location. Any other sugestions would be very appreciated!
Finally solved. After trying "fix permissions" in CWM, I was forced to install another ROM(my choice: Void Forever) because all the apps started to FC. Now the GPS(together with the instant fix) works really nice! BTW, i got 2200 in quadrant(also installed Supercharger V6 and OC to 748 with SmartassV2 governor)!!! All in all, Void Forever fixed every thing. Big thanks to Knzo!
I'm having the same problem.
Right now I'm using the phone just for apps (no phone use as a "phone" possible), internet only through wifi. It was turned off for about a month (dead battery) after that no GPS fix whatsoever.
So, I'm curios, does phone has to be "activated" and have data turned on for AGPS/GPS?
In the past, I had exact same situation with HTC Inspire, as soon as I inserted sim card in it, GPS fixed in less then a second...
i was having similiar using and all i had to do was clear the google map cache.
my gps was showing up in the task bar.

I'm still having problems with my GPS after installing Axura Rom 2.2.5.9. My GPS was working fine before this upgrade and I've tried all the fixes and it's not helping me. My GPS spotted 11 and 6 - 8 is in use using GPStest app but when I'm using navagation, it's always stuck on "getting driving direction" screen. I disable using wireless network and wifi. I don't think it's hardware issue because it was working fine before. I'm not sure if the newest version of Axura will help or should I reflash my rom? Please help!!
Disable data? This will not allow it to get the directions, hence your phone gets stuck at that screen.

I see you posted in the non hardware gps fix. What were you running that it worked so good? I think you need to go back to it or try reflashing what your on. Try a different rom maybe? I did try GPS restore but no luck, the Nav still stuck on "finding driving directions" screen. I have no clue why is it doing that. I see 10 birds and locked onto 6 - 8 with good signal strengh and Google maps works flawlessly with an instant written direction within seconds.

While I was running the Stock SE 2.1 .435 release (rooted of course) my X10 was capable of automatically switching between the GSM data connection to any of my configured Wifi networks (at work and at home) without any user interaction.
I have a friend with a Motorola Milestone on 2.1 with this same behaviour.
Every 2.2 ROM I have loaded seems to have a problem with regards to this feature. Basically I have to perform a manual switch but here are two of the behaviours I have noticed.
On FreeX10 the SSID basically becomes disabled. If I am at home and connected to my home network and leave the cell area my 3G network becomes established and everything is fine. Once I get back home within the cell area of my WiFi network the WiFi connection does not become active. Instead I have to go into Wireless Settings and that's when I see it is disabled. Long press the SSID and choosing Connect gets me connected.
On [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] the SSID does not get disabled but rather it continuously fails. Same use case as above except when I go into Wireless Settings I see the SSID "Connecting" and then failing and entering the "Remembered" state.
My friend with the Milestone recently upgraded to 2.2 and will test this scenario to see if it is inherent to 2.2.
My question is, would it be possible to take the 2.1 Wifi component and use that in the 2.2 ROMs?
It would be great this could get fixed, same problem is with the gingerbread roms.
Like u said, it doesn't even help when switching WiFi off/on again using my WiFi widget. U have to manually press connect on your specific WiFi connection.
Pain in the ass!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the same problems, tried both roms and ended up sticking with Cyanogen, simply because it was less of a pain re wifi but i still have reconnection problems when leaving my house. The answer is to manually turn off wifi then leave, then reengage wifi manually when i return. A pain but, a small one
Agreed. Toggling the power does not help.
If it is possible to take the WiFi component (for lack of a better word) from another build I strongly suggest considering .435 because it worked phenominally under various conditions.
yea my wifi doesn't seem to work well either with the FreeX10 rom
I assume you already tried Blade Wifi Fix? If not, do so.
The Blade fix was included in the CM ROM I installed. It looks like all it did was power cycle the wifi which as already stated doesn't help.

I know what it is intended to do but I was wondering how it was doing it. being a technical person I don't like the shotgun approach because the end results are very hard to interpret if you don't know what you are actually doing

hi,
after reading this i though ...
me and wolf include blade wifi on our roms.
for me i don`t have any issue regarding wifi on my rom. i get out of home with wifi connected do a 1 hour trip to my work and when i get there wifi pick signal without any issue.
but......
i don`t check right away, so.
like i said me and wolf we include blade wifi and do some changes regarding build.prop to save some battery. one of the most consumer of battery is the wifi.
on SE roms search for wifi every 15 seconds. on mine i change that to 380 sec and wolf around 200 (i think) so...could this be the cause of ????
i personally don`t believe removing blade will do any difference but...maybe those who had this issues try to change build.prop to 15sec ?
well we might be onto something...after installing Blade I was able to switch but I did not time it...seems to have taken quite some time though. I'll time it next time but I'm sure since it will vary because it looks like it runs a timer and I don't know what the details are.
I wonder if Z made the same changes to build.prop as you guys have. I would be interested in testing without this change.
Also, it would be great to know what Blade actually does. I wonder if it circumvents the changes you made to the intervals in build.prop.
Also, any idea as to whether we can use the WiFi component from the .435 build in these ROMs?
Ren,
Is it possible to go in and change the value in build.prop:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=
Without reloading the ROM?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes.
Through root explorer. Just make sure you check all boxes on permitions and after that reboot.

OK. I've been watching what Blade does and all it seems to do is reinitialize the wifi. Seems overkill so I found this:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/WifiConfiguration.Status.html
I want to write an app that will monitor configured networks and set their status to Enabled.
The challenge for me is that I've never developed an app before but I have the SDK installed and it recognized my x10 so I'm good to go. Ill try to get as far as I can but I will need some help. Is there anyone interested in offering themselves as a resource if/when I need some help?

I was having problems with my GPS as well where it would not lock on no matter how long I waited. I did not have this problem when I first got my phone and I'm not sure when the bug was introduced. None of the software fixes worked for me, including the ones discussed here, and the problem persisted across all ROMS, including stock.
Finally I found someone in a forum that recommended removing the battery while the phone was on. I was hesitant to do this for obvious reasons, but my frusteration drove me to desparation and I tried it. To my surprise the GPS works good as ever and typically locks onto my location in less than 10 seconds. Obviously if you can get the software fix to work for you, this is better, but this was the only thing that worked for me. Hopefully this will help someone else.

What should the agps settings in gps.conf be set to?
I already set ATT=0 and used Faster Fix, but still locking/fixing is very slow, sometimes taking hours.
Could this have anything to do with my location? I am in China now, have unlocked the phone so using on a local carrier. Last time I was in the US (using it with ATT) it worked great.
Solved - SGH-I777 GPS fix
The sirfgps.conf ATT_NETWORK_OPERATOR=0 did nothing for me on my AT&T SGH-I777.
I got that GPS fix app and gps worked but its full of spam adverts that show on your notification bar. They appear with a star infront of the spam advert.
I fixed it the old fashion way. By remembering how I fixed my AT&T Galaxy I gps issue.
in /etc/sirfgps.conf leave att_network_operator=1
change, SSL_ENABLED=1
save and exit
in /etc/gps.conf change the following:
SUPL_HOST=www.spirent-ics.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
save and exit.
now I get 7 second gps lock in Miami Fl.

Actually, only Navigation has worked twice and when it does, the rest of apps work too (just for a limited time).
It takes ages to work and the problem is not finding the satellites since I detect (with GPS status and GPS test plus) 6 to 10 of them. It seems like it can't process the data and calculate the coordinates.
Any idea of what could be the problem? Have you heard of same problem in others SGA with CGM7? Any solution?
Thank you very much!
PD: I haven't tried the GPS with stock rom but since it has work twice with CGM7.1 and detects the satellites I think we can discard that the GPS is broken. It is more like bad configuration.
EDIT: when I download the A-GPS info I NEVER get a satellite. This maybe a symptom of something.
Did you see the GPS thread in the Android Dev section ?

Same here, tried the above but still no GPS.
Installed GPS Test and nothing showing - put the phone outside not testing in the house.
Worked OK on stock ROM

Now we have a problem. I have tried almost every trick and nothing worked. I can't believe we are the only people having this trouble, there must be someone else.
Does anyone know how the GPS works? What is the algorithm? We should be able to find where the problem is located.
My GPS can find the satellites (from 6 to 10) even inside of buildings (2-5) and have worked twice, only twice but it went okay. Usually, it doesn't give me the coordinates, as I said, this only happened twice.
I think the error could be related to the next step, once it has located the satellites, what does it have to do? Synchronise with the ntp servers?
Also we can try a personalized gps.conf config file because the others below haven't worked.
I hope someone understand the GPS process better than we do and can help us.
Thank you all.
I provided 2 sets of gps.conf and secgps.conf and both also didn't work for you?
My problem is similar.I can't get any satellites until I reboot.even after reboot, it doesn't lock even after having more than 10 satellites.I have to restart the GPS status a few times before it locks

Tried the second set of conf files and left my phone outside for about 20 mins and finally got a lock but only about 80 feet accurate.
Thanks for the tutorial.
Not sure if you have the latest modem/radio. Flashing the latest might help if that's the case.

Probably being a bit dim but is that an FM radio and what is/where do I get the latest versions of the modem?
EDIT
Flash a current modem file in ODIN I guess?
Finally getting very quick fix times (inside the house) by following instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713
I think using Assisted GPS was the key though.
With assisted GPS, it is expected to have much faster lock

I have tried almost every gps.conf in the forum and I haven't fixed the Ace yet.
However, I discovered two things:
1) If you reboot the phone with the "GPS Active" option ticked and reset the AGPS data (with GPS-Status) you always get locked.
2) When you get locked as I said in 1), it always refresh the coordinates once per 30 seconds (a normal GPS do it in once per second, checked with a stock galaxy s2).
The 30 seconds refreshing is very suspicious, like a wrong value in a configuration parameter. Any idea?
I think the problem is in the cyanogen, remember this is a ported mod from galaxy s to galaxy ace so it was not originally programmed for this phone.
Good information, I suspect it's due to cyanogen too. Can't wait for the official cyanogen. I hope it will fix the GPS issue. It's annoying sometimes....

After trying all the possibilities:
- Installing stock (gps-ok) and restoring my cm7 backup NOT WORKING*
- Installing stock and cm7 from new NOT WORKING
- Installing different stocks versions WORKING*
- Installing mods (gingerreal....) WORKING
- Trying almost every fix with cm7 (gps.conf, fasterfix-apps...) NOT WORKING
After all, the GPS HAS NOT WORKED EVER* with cyanogen mod 7.1 RC1 in galaxy ace.
So I just got back to stock, rooted and reinstalled apps, configs, etc.
I have something to say: if GPS doesn't work to anybody with CGM7.1, this MUST BE in the specification rom page because for many people (like me) the GPS related apps represent a high percentage of use. People should be warned about this issue in order to install or not the rom.
Thank you all, you have been very helpful, as always in this forum.
(*) normal working means <20s to lock, refreshing every second, even when you turn the gps off and on again...
I use GPS extensively too
