The new official LG firmware (Android 2.3.3 - Gingerbread) has a different baseband than Froyo had (2.2.*). So any ROM based on official GB binaries, needs this new baseband. So, if u go from one custom ROM that needs the old baseband to the one that needs the new one (or the other way around) you NEED to change it so that GSM and data can work!
I can't say which one is better, but Mik_os doesn't support the new one in his ROM (CM7 port)... Hmm?

Missy:
- there is NO mik baseband. There are LG v10 and v20 basebands.
- The only thing from mik related to baseband are patched ril libs for CM7 that tried to make the new baseband working on CM7 and failed, since it cannot read the operator information from SIM card. Therefore, no APNs and no 2G/3G.
- There is an extensive howto I have written with instructions. I have also explained in detail which baseband is for which ROM.
Read the darned howto and stop asking the same thing over and over again. If you do not understand, stay with stock ROM.

If you don't know anything about baseband (and have never messed with it) you probably have the old baseband

Oh thank you.. and is the rom and kernal you are using for your phone good?
i think it is one of the best roms out there performance wise. the only reason why i would not recommend it is because of the minor bugs it has (which i believe will be fixed this weekend)
if you take a look at it and find that you do not like it, you should try mik's port of cyanogenmod7 here (which is also good performance wise)

newbie. best rom?

hi i just bought my phone last week an I've already experienced some lag even though there's not much apps installed. so now i want to try a custom rom. what rom would be the best for first timers thanks..
If you have 2.2 installed (old baseband) than andy's phoenix rom is the best.
Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909242
If you have 2.3 (new baseband) than you should go for Ginger LOL:

hi, thanks for the reply. baseband is the version of android im currently using right? im using 2.3.3. but the link for ginger lol says page is not found. i'll try to search for it in the forums. thanks.

baseband is not the android version. i wrote up a small thing on baseband here.
here is the link for ginger lol (the link in post two is actually the right link except for the four dots):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118685
in my opinion, i would use andy's phoenix rom. follow these instructions:
a) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15309588&postcount=2
b) also, since you are currently using official gingerbread (2.3.3), you need to downgrade your baseband version, instructions found here
thanks for the info man. as i've read, most roms will eventually support the new baseband. so i think, im gonna wait a little longer for that. one more thing though. i though when i install rom, the kernel comes along with it, but as i read it seems that i need to flash my kernel too? thanks for your help.
phoenix rom comes with franco's .35 kernel preinstalled
There's no need to install other kernel.
roms using old baseband is never going to support new baseband...
DUDE I prefer, no need to root your stock rom for installing custom rom.
follow http://lg-p500-optimusone.blogspot.com/ if u want this.
note : I didnt try this but this should work

plain and simple, and stats show... best rom, Mik_os's cyanogenmod 7 port
paired with your choice of either the latest franko kernel or fserves kernels.
CyanogenMod 7 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
Franko kernel 19.4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518
Fserve's kernerls (personally i use goldenleaf, has the absolute best battery life out there, and good performance) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227682

[Q] CM7 new baseband

Hey,, I want to know that is there a CM7 rom availible which uses the new baseband version? As i don't want to flash the old baseband which consumes more battery and also my phone was dead when i tried to do it last time.. Or should I stick to openOptimus GB
It has been told many times that CyanogenMod currently doesn't support the new baseband, so you have to choose between CM and baseband. Please read around before posting.

at the moment New Baseband Sources not available so u cant have CM7 for New Baseband.
Old Baseband Consumes More Battery said Who?
There are Guides available togoto Old Baseband from New Baseband
Example : Check my Sig
if u wanna Test CM7 then Make a Nandroid backup of ur Current rom Wipe all (data, and /format system if u are using CWM format option is under mounts and Storage) then Install CM7 current Stable Version is 5.6.8. Test it See how it works etc etc[ofc the Radio wont work but this is just for you to test the ROM not GSM/Data, there is a Patch to enable GSM but if u want DATA working then u have to flash OLD Baseband] . If u Like it then Flash the Old Baseband. If u dont restore your Backup. and Stay on OpenOPtimus whatever version it is.

The only reason not to flash to the new baseband with Gingerbread (2.3) is if your carrier uses HSDPA in the 1700Mhz band (T-Mobile in the US, for example).
In that case, I recommend sticking with the stock rom (or a custom one that includes the LG framework, at least), modifying it yourself (flashing a new kernel alone will make it feel like a new phone), and retain the features found only in the LG framework (the LG camera app is tremendously better than any of the available alternatives). Or, if you don't mind losing most of the camera's features, you can upgrade to a version of Gingerbread that supports the old baseband (I recommend Adfad666's A-Series or F-Series rom with fserv's modified version of the francokernel).
Otherwise, it would be advisable to take the leap and enjoy the enhancements of the new baseband (most notably, users are reporting a stronger overall signal).
Keep in mind that in the future, most rom developers will probably be shifting strictly to the new baseband. So, if you switch now, you'll be prepared for any future rom updates.
