[Q] Cant delete default ringtones - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok, I'm trying to delete the default rintones (tmo jingle, etc.) but when I do they are gone for a few min the reappear even though they arent in the /media/audio folder anywhere....anyone got any ideas? I cleared DRM and all the other stuff i could find. Anyone know if the ringtones are stored somewhere besides just /media????? =3

Are you deleting from the the zip pre flash or from the phone after flashed?

Do you have an unzipped rom on one of your sd's by chance?
Sent from my ZenDroid, meditating on the XDA App

Going to try and test some things ECOTOX. I'll let you know if I find what's up.

no unzipped rom, and i deleted from the rom before flash and after and still there in the menu, and working i might add even though the files are gone???? =/

Weird. Testing now. Is this on your rom?

yeah...been trying to delete them for 2days now =/

I'm downloading your rom now, may not be able to flash it until tomorrow but I'll take a look when I get the chance.
Edit - they are definitely not in the zip file. Ill flash it when I get the chance and let you know my results.

I do know that android can find the ring tones from other roms, even zipped ones. For the longest time I had 3 or 4 of each ringtone. Turns out I had some unzipped roms on sd/speedsoftware/extracted
Beware of angry gingerbread man

Hey Eco, flashed your nightly 2 this morning, and the only ringtones that showed up for me were the handful that you included. The notification sounds were all there, but I assumed you included those intentionally, separate from the ringtones.
My only thought is that, as adamcooks touched on above, the OS is seeing a folder on one of your sd's titled ringtones, and its adding its contents to the available options.

i'm confused

I flashed bi-winning (great rom), however avatar is no longer on my phone. this is strange because i've flashed many times and avatar is never effected. this time, however, it is gone, the trailer is still there though. I was thinking it's just hidden somewhere on my sd card, what do you think?
this also happened with the sims 3. i flashed a rom and it dissapeared, although i haven't seen the sims on my phone in a while.
finding avatar and sims
avatar should be in the movie folder of your external SD, the only reason it shouldn't be there is if you switched cards. and check your root folder for the sims 3.apk files, if you don't have it I keep a copy of it just let me know if you want it.
I found avatar. It has a pyv extention for some reason. As far as looking in the root folder. Where is the root folder?

Root is just your sd card. Not in any folder on your sd card.
Like on your computer root = c: NOT c:/anyfolder
legitimate. i always wondered what happened too....
finding root folders
you will need to have rooted your phone, then with root explorer or something similar go to data/app/ and you will see most of your .apk files that you have ever downloaded from the market. sims will be in this one. just run the .apk to reinstall the game. I always manually copy this folder to my external to make it easyer if my backups fail.
Normally when you flash a rom Avatar is still there, you just need to go to video player to watch it because the roms remove the icon for it but not the movie
Great info on the Sims. Thank-you. As far as avatar goes. I've always been able to open the movie through the gallery. Now all I see in the gallery is the trailer. Let me check this stuff out and ill let you know what has worked
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Edit: searched through root explorer and the sims is not there, that isn't a big deal. I suppose i could flash a rom where i know ive seen avatar and save it to my sd card from there, again, this isn't a big deal either. I mostly like to pull it up and show people how awesome our screens are.
Update: just flashed back to trigger. Avatar is back. Im not sure what the deal is with this
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but after I flashed trigger I moved avatar to the root of my SD card. It was viewable. I then went back to bi-winning and it was the same story as before. I found avatar but it was not viewable. I think this is rom related.

Its Kernel related. I've tried a bunch of times but for some reason Avatar won't work on the Overstock Kernel

I think it must be rom related. Avater worked for me on bionix 1.3.1, i'm currently watching it on trigger 2.9.2. I'm thinking it might have something to do with 2.2.1 roms, but that is just speculation.

I got my hands on a 4G vibrant it comes with "Inception" and its a .pyv extension the "Avatar" that came with my 3G vibrant is a .dcf extension. Both movies won't play for me unfortunately. Just thought it was weird that the extension was changed(keepin **** locked down!)
For me personally the avatar that came with the phone hasn't played in such along time i can't even remember and i've since replaced it with a mp4 copy along with mp4's of other movies! i.e. i show avatar to some buddies and get a shoulder shrug.... show them jackass3 and its "wow, thats awesome looking!" lol. to each their own i guess. I only keep these originals to check compatibility on ROMS for those on here.

I think replacing with MP4 versions is probably the best way to insure it will play. It's dumb though, samsung and T-mobile include these movies and they restrict them so they can't be copied. I understand the reasoning, i just don't agree with it
Has anyone been able to fix this? Also im on toxic firefly and swype doesnt work correctly either.

[Q] Ringtones on Eclipse v0.7

Switched to Eclipse .07..cannot get Custom ringtones to stick to certain contacts. Any ideas?
Could it have something to do with the sd card flip-flop?

Im thinking so...but how do I get around it?
You can flash naven's sd flip-flop from the dev. section of this forum. That's supposed to revert it back to the stock designation. I think the aosp contacts app has no provision for multiple locations for sound files.

Put your ringtones in /system/media/audio/ringtones/ that should do the trick.
Whats really odd about all of it is the fact the ringtones/notifications are there in my list, but does not play the correct one.
I had the same issue last night! I will let you guys know if it works, if someone calls me, lol.
When I get home ill try it...left my usb home and every time I try to dl through browser keep getting nothing.

"Put your ringtones in /system/media/audio/ringtones/ that should do the trick."
this is what i did manually and all of my music and tones were able to be found again.
When I moved my ringtone over it became the same as my default ringer... Seriously, the file name is the same as it was before, but the audio is what my default ringer is! These are custom ringtones I ripped and made myself in AcidPro on my PC so I know what they are supposed to be lol.
Ran the sd flip flop...no go. Not a real deal breaker but Id like to know whether or not to answer the phone when it rings. Plus when my gf hears her ringtone..makes her happy lol,
She calls you when she is next to you? lol

[Q] Rom into .zip

I currently created a rom thats a mix of two roms put together and tweaked to my liking and battery life. I dont plan on distributing it because its not my work but i would like to make it into a .zip in case anything happens. How would I go about doing so? I tried fruit cake but it didnt seem to work at all. The two roms I have combined are iscrewed and turkbey.

Look at how the updater-script of various ROMs you use is written - that's the main thing you might need to change.

You can download my ROM and just delete my system folder and add yours. Do same for all files. Most of my roms use data for install off apps.. If you don't want that you have to delete data lines in updater script. Make sure you use NotePad++ not regular NotePad to edit scripts. Then sign zip.. If not know how just put zip on your phone and use signapktik app in market. If you already have turkbey or other ROM zip... Just do the same with there's

I must be doing something wrong then. I opened up the internal storage on my phone from my computer, created the folder ringtones, put the tones in it, rebooted the phone and still nothing. Am just about to give up.
Should look like this...if not right folder structure it will not read it....if they are a format the phone doesnt play then may not show as well...I use .mp3/ogg as my ringtones and no issues seeing them in ringtones selection. An after thought, custom ringtones for contacts or phone calls...not sure if same applies I would assume it would let you select if for contacts the same as for phone calls

It shouldn't matter what rom I am running should it?
Create a folder on your internal storage or SD card called "media". Inside that folder make a folder called "audio". Without quotes obviously lol. Inside that folder make a folder called "ringtones". Put all of your custom ringtones in there. I have mine in MP3 format and it all works fine.
You can also make folders named "notifications" and "alarms" inside the audio folder and add custom sounds to those as well. It's all picked up by my phone as soon as I add them.
I've been using this method since FroYo and it never fails. Also, I believe you can skip the "audio" folder step and put the ringtones folder directly into the media folder and it should work just the same.
Also, I would make the "r" in "ringtones" lowercase just in case...you never know when OSes will begin getting picky lmao.
Good luck.
It actually could matter...if the dev changed a line in aac it would have the issue your describing. I know this because when I was messing around with the build I use I changed that and couldnt get my ringtones to show just dawned on me about it

change it to:
