need help to load custom boot sound to custom bootanimation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can anyone help me please. im running rooted stock gb thunderbolt. I have manually changed the boot animation but for the life of me cannot get a custom sound to play when I restart phone. ive tried every thing I can imagine . going to system/customize/reasouses and saved and deleted old sound , copy pasted new sound renamed it Verizon_thunderbolt_3sec.mp3 them manually gone to system/customize/cdl and went into default.xml and changed to section dealing with this from autostart="part1" ect no go "part0" no go. even hnzipped the new bootanimation and renamed the folder in it to VZW and changed the default.xml section back to original writing and no go. ive tried going into system/media and approprietly renamed new sound and pasted it there and removed old sound file and no go. ive tried going to system/media/notifications and placed new sound there as I was instructed and no go. so if anyone have any other ideas please feel free to email me [email protected]

Custom boot animation

Hey guys,
I'm so sorry if this is a topic which has been resolved before but I am kinda new at all this (this is my first post) , I was on YouTube and came across some videos of how to apply custom boot animation on an HTC desire WITHOUT ROOT.
I didn't fully understand the procedure and was wondering if this is possible on an un-rooted wildfire as well. And if yes, then how?
I am currently running the official android 2.2.1 update, obviously without ROOT.
Thanks in advance

Right, I would also love to know.
After searching about on Astro I found the picture files for the boot animation. There was also a very short script. I worked out which bit told the device the screen resolution and fps but the rest was gobbledy gook
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Sorry accidently pressed send too soon...
....to me. The filepath to the folder was:
\system\customize\resource\bootanimation.zip
Can't access it? Try downloading Astro file manager from the Market.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Alright, i have access to the folder, now what?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
do u have write permission on that folder???
If so, then you have to replace the bootanimation.zip with the bootanimation u want..
You can find the custom bootanimation in the same forum..
So basically, I access the folder with boot animation, and replace it with the custom boot animation i want right? This is all through the computer right?
I'm so sorry if I'm asking obvious stuff but I'm new at all this
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
yeah thats right... have you rooted the phone???
You cannot modify the system folder without root. I wasn't even aware that it was possible to change bootanimation without root. Ill check that video out and try to help you.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Alright. The video showed a Droid incredible and the person used a Mac and entered some code into the terminal, that is basically command prompt on windows.
So yeah check it out and see if you understand it.
Thanks in advance

You need root access to change the system zip I showed earlier. Put the animation in separate folders in the zip folder eg:
HTC
TMOB
I recommend you use a simple name for the folder.
Then you need to rename the image files to:
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0001
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0002
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0003
Etc...
This isn't essential but is good practice. You must include the 0001 at the end though so the animation images are in the right order.
REMEMBER THOSE SPECS ARE FOR HTC BUZZ WILDFIRE.
Now you need to edit the desc.txt script.
***FROM HERE ON I AM NOT 100% SURE AND DO NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE***
desc.txt:
240 320 15
p
p
Now I figured what the top line is; resolution and fps. But the lines with p on confuse me. They have some numbers after and the the folder name.
Will update later when I find out.
Hope this helps.
th3ant
Please thank if you found this helpful.

[[UPDATE:]]
Right guys, I think I found out somit...
First I need to correct a mistake from earlier, when I said to rename the pic files, it seems you need to start from 0000 not 0001:
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0000
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0001
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0002
Next, I'd like to say what I found out about the desc.txt file.
Mine looks like this...
240 320 15
p 1 45 android
p 1 1 TMI
I explained the first line earlier. Now look where it says "p 1 45 android".
The p is absolutely necessary, I don't know what it stands for, maybe play?
The "1 45" were the question. I think they tell the phone how many frames there are. But the thing that confused me is that the android folder has 1 file and the TMO folder has 45. But the script says the opposite. Can you make any sense of this?
And last but not least, the "android" at the end of the line is the name of the folders holding the different animations.
Did that make sense?
Alright, thanks man
Will try it out in a few days, got exams
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Good luck with those. I think I'm on to something with the script... will update previous post shortly.

Oh, how are you going to try it out when you are running 2.2.1 and don't have root access? I did mention you need root access to modify bootanimation.zip as it is a system folder
I know its annoying.... i'm just starting to get the full grips of all this rooting malarky a couple of months ago and guess what I did before I knew about not being able to root Android 2.2.1.... yes I updated
So now I cant test any of my new ROM's, Hacks and Tweaks until unrEVOked get a move on
I will try and make a website with help on in the future as I am now making quite a few tweaks and people need to know this stuff! Will post full instructions for bootanimation tweak in the coming future....
Good Luck to anyone who does try anything!
th3ant
Yeah, even I didnt know that the official 2.2.1 for wildfire for not rootable I got an alert for the official update and installed immediately without any research.
So yeah im stuck too
Anyways thanks for the reply

[bootanimation] cool particle test

Wasn't sure if this was posted before, but these would be pretty cool boot animations if anyone were to want to work on them. I know I'm not the only one who would appreciate these

There is actually already a particle boot animation based on this same video!
I've looked for bootanimations in the search many times but don't find one based on this vid, can you point me to a link?

So whats the deal?

Using Root Explorer navigate to system/media and find the .zip you put there. Long press it and select Permissions. It should be set up as follows:
User: Read, Write
Group: Read
Others: Read
See if that helps, though Im not a Gingerclone user so YMMV.

[Q] Cant delete default ringtones

ok, I'm trying to delete the default rintones (tmo jingle, etc.) but when I do they are gone for a few min the reappear even though they arent in the /media/audio folder anywhere....anyone got any ideas? I cleared DRM and all the other stuff i could find. Anyone know if the ringtones are stored somewhere besides just /media????? =3
Are you deleting from the the zip pre flash or from the phone after flashed?
Sent from my SGH-T959
Do you have an unzipped rom on one of your sd's by chance?

Going to try and test some things ECOTOX. I'll let you know if I find what's up.
no unzipped rom, and i deleted from the rom before flash and after and still there in the menu, and working i might add even though the files are gone???? =/
Weird. Testing now. Is this on your rom?

I'm downloading your rom now, may not be able to flash it until tomorrow but I'll take a look when I get the chance.
Edit - they are definitely not in the zip file. Ill flash it when I get the chance and let you know my results.

I do know that android can find the ring tones from other roms, even zipped ones. For the longest time I had 3 or 4 of each ringtone. Turns out I had some unzipped roms on sd/speedsoftware/extracted
Beware of angry gingerbread man
Hey Eco, flashed your nightly 2 this morning, and the only ringtones that showed up for me were the handful that you included. The notification sounds were all there, but I assumed you included those intentionally, separate from the ringtones.
My only thought is that, as adamcooks touched on above, the OS is seeing a folder on one of your sd's titled ringtones, and its adding its contents to the available options.

Just want to add, I modified the first Animation to have the Nvidia piece kick in a litter faster. As my phone starts pretty quick, and having the Motorola animation run 4-5 times before the Nvidia animation, my phone would start before I saw the Nvidia tegra animation.
Either way, this works for me

Hi, I am new to android. My MoPho is rooted, i tried to copy bootanimation.zip to location specified using File Expert, it will not allow me to write to any system directories or files. I installed Root Explorer but get a FC message everytime I attempt to load it. Any suggestions?

You have to Root your Photon 4g 1st...
Just follow this site and follow the steps to Root your Phone..
Its so Simple... Just a Click of a button you have your Photon Rooted..
Make sure you enable Android Debugging and Allow Unknown Source in Apps settings..
Root
After than, Just paste the Bootanimation.zip folder in your sd card or internal storage.
( You have to Rename it to bootanimation.zip )
Then Use Root Explorer and go into System/media and paste it over there..
When you get Permission Request on Superuser click Allow..
Thats all..
Reboot and Enjoy your New Boot Animation.

I recently discovered how to mount directories with read/write permissions, I did so and it worked like a charm. Great animation BTW. Anyone have others they find interesting?
Can someone please upload the stock boot animation for those of us who needed to restore their devices to stick and lost the original animation?
This looks easy and awesome!
Thanks so much.

After installing your animation I found another I wanted to try out, however yours seems to be here for the long haul.
I've even gone as far as deleting the animation zip entirely and then rebooting, with no luck. Is there some back up that it draws from in the case that the files are not present?
Honestly I keep expecting your animation to say " Resistance is futile".. Any ideas?

Good job on this man. I was reading thru the posts and saw some were having issues with permissions so before I copied over the new Boot Animation .zip file, I checked the permissions of the original and after copying over I made sure the new one had the same.
Worked without an issue and looks great!!

[Q] Stock ringtone - Over the horizon

Hello
One of my family member liked my ringtone, and asked me if it was possible for me to get it for her. So I tried, but failed. I only found the whole song. But it is not the one in the device.
So I am asking if somebody could get me the real samsung ringtone . Over the horizon?
Thank you very much.
I'm pretty sure no one on here will help you essentially steal a proprietary ringtone. But if you were rooted and happened to go to /system/media/audio/ringtones yourself, and extract the file, there is nothing anyone could do.

Wow, copyrighted ringtones ? what will they think up next !
Also: http://www.zedge.net/ringtone/1436885/
Well excuse me for assuming a Samsung ringtone bundled with a Samsung phone might be copyrighted to Samsung. Like touchwiz for example........
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
If anyone's interested, if you have a Nandroid backup of your stock Samsung ROM you can extract the files from sytsem.ext4.tar on a PC or Nandroid backup browser. They're under \system\media\audio\

Go download zedge from the play store and search for it. They have tones. Then get a file explorer to search for the zedge folder you'll find the ringtone in the folder. Then you can send it to your friend

On my GB it is found in /system/media/audio/ringtones. Use Root Explorer and via Bluetooth send it to the other phone.
The file is an .ogg sound file.
I would have attached the file for you to DL but don't see a file attach option in this app.
I do hope this helps you though.

You can do this without root
From root explorer you go to
system/media/ringtones
Copy it to you sdcard
