[Q] Stock ringtone - Over the horizon - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
One of my family member liked my ringtone, and asked me if it was possible for me to get it for her. So I tried, but failed. I only found the whole song. But it is not the one in the device.
So I am asking if somebody could get me the real samsung ringtone . Over the horizon?
Thank you very much.

I'm pretty sure no one on here will help you essentially steal a proprietary ringtone. But if you were rooted and happened to go to /system/media/audio/ringtones yourself, and extract the file, there is nothing anyone could do.

Wow, copyrighted ringtones ? what will they think up next !
Also: http://www.zedge.net/ringtone/1436885/

Well excuse me for assuming a Samsung ringtone bundled with a Samsung phone might be copyrighted to Samsung. Like touchwiz for example........

If anyone's interested, if you have a Nandroid backup of your stock Samsung ROM you can extract the files from sytsem.ext4.tar on a PC or Nandroid backup browser. They're under \system\media\audio\

Go download zedge from the play store and search for it. They have tones. Then get a file explorer to search for the zedge folder you'll find the ringtone in the folder. Then you can send it to your friend
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

On my GB it is found in /system/media/audio/ringtones. Use Root Explorer and via Bluetooth send it to the other phone.
The file is an .ogg sound file.
I would have attached the file for you to DL but don't see a file attach option in this app.
I do hope this helps you though.

You can do this without root
From root explorer you go to
system/media/ringtones
Copy it to you sdcard

Avatar, File Not Found, Yes I've read other threads

Hi XDA:
I still have the Avatar movie on external sd card, pushed the avatar.apk file to /system/apps, and made sure the proper movie sub directory was copied from an old back up to my internal sd card under the sd card directory. Still getting ' file not found' when click Avatar icon. I can watch the movie using the video player and I'm sure this is something small that I've forgotten, and I researched other threads regarding this issue but cannot find an answer. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I'm currently running Nero v3. Cheers.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would really be appreciated. I am selling one of my Vibrants as I've just purchased a Nexus S and I'm trying to get this working for them before I ship it. Thanks again
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
This has to do with the different ways 2.1 and 2.2 name the external sd card - 2.1 calls it "sd" or "sdcard" (can't remember...been a while since 2.1), while 2.2 calls it "external_sd." So, you need the Avatar apk that has the correct name in the movie filepath.
The attached apk's should solve your problem. If you are running a 2.2 rom, then use the one I attached named "Avatar_22." Push it to your system/app just like you were doing before.
Disclaimer: I did not make the 2.2 compatible Avatar shortcut. I had this same issue and found it somewhere on this site, but figured I'd just share the apk instead of trying to search out the original source. If this makes someone mad, let me know and I'll give the proper credit or remove it - whichever you prefer.
Awesome.. Exactly what I needed and I'll give it a whirl once I arrive home from work. Thanks.

need help to load custom boot sound to custom bootanimation

can anyone help me please. im running rooted stock gb thunderbolt. I have manually changed the boot animation but for the life of me cannot get a custom sound to play when I restart phone. ive tried every thing I can imagine . going to system/customize/reasouses and saved and deleted old sound , copy pasted new sound renamed it Verizon_thunderbolt_3sec.mp3 them manually gone to system/customize/cdl and went into default.xml and changed to section dealing with this from autostart="part1" ect no go "part0" no go. even hnzipped the new bootanimation and renamed the folder in it to VZW and changed the default.xml section back to original writing and no go. ive tried going into system/media and approprietly renamed new sound and pasted it there and removed old sound file and no go. ive tried going to system/media/notifications and placed new sound there as I was instructed and no go. so if anyone have any other ideas please feel free to email me [email protected]

[Q] Custom Notification Sounds?

How do I change the notification sound for SMS in my Rezound? I have a short mp3 file I transferred to the SD card, I then tried to copy and paste that file into the notifications folder onboard the Rezound, but it said something about something being read-only, so it didn't let me paste.
I'm on stock ICS, non-rooted.
Does anyone know how I can get my mp3 sample into the Rezound for the SMS notification sound?

Have you tried this:
To use custom ringtones for your phone ringtone, your alarm or your text message notification, simply copy an MP3 file to one of the following folders: /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones /sdcard/media/audio/alarms /sdcard/media/audio/notifications If they don't already exist, then create a new folder. The file will then show up when you want to change your ringtones. For Ringtones go to Settings - Sound - Phone ringtone For Text Messages go to - Settings - Sound - Notification ringtone For Alarm, set the sound when you add a new alarm - See more at:

maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I tried to finding that folder in ES file explorer and couldn't find it. It shows sdcard and sdcard2. in sdcard, the link to notifications is sdcard/notifications or sdcard/media/audio/notification. However, in the audio folder inside sdcard, there is only a notifications folder, no ringtones or alarms folder. When I pasted the sound to the notifications folders, I still couldn't find my custom sound when trying to change the notification sound in the SMS options.
The method I tried in the OP, was in a folder not in the sdcard or sdcard2, but inside a folder in the onboard phone folders (system/media/audio/notifications), or whatever is the root of the sdcard and sdcard2 folders.

I placed the mp3 file in both directories under sdcard and sdcard2 and it still doesn't show up in the list of sounds for notifications. I think I tried creating the folder in sdcard2, but I think it was already present in sdcard. I notice that those default notification sounds are not located in the sdcard or sdcard folders but rather are in the root folder of both sdcard and sdcard2 under the folder "system".
The directory is /system/media/audio/notifications. I tried placing the mp3 file there using ES explorer, but it doesn't let me paste there as it gives me an error about it being read-only. I don't know how to change that read-only option.
Picture of the error:
You get that error because you don't have root permissions....what version of stock ROM are you using....I'll flash it myself and figure it out for you....if you root and flash custom ROM you wouldn't have to worry about the hassle...also if you root don't use es explorer....use ROM toolbox but keep in mind it requires you have root

I already had a Notifications folder in the sdcard folder with the mp3 file in it so I just made one for sdcard2. After doing that I went to try to change the notifications sound in the sms options and it appeared in the list. But then I tried to delete the sdcard2 folder to try to see if I can diagnose the problem such as whether the sdcard folder was enough or if I needed the sdcard2 folder as well and after that I couldn't get it to show up in the list of sounds anymore. I recreated the folder in sdcard2 with the mp3, but it won't show up in sound list anymore. I don't know what happened. I shut down and restarted the phone after deleting the folder in sdcard2 as well as recreating the folder and it still doesn't work anymore.

I couldn't find an option to set text tone in the sound settings. All I found was a notifications tone setting, but couldn't find my mp3 file in the list there.
After doing it at first, it worked. So then I deleted the folders and eventually tried creating again and it didn't work. I then tried shutting off and restarting and it didn't work as well.

Stock International Boot/Shutdown animation & Sound - Remove T-Mobile Boot Logo

So I personally hate the look of the T-Mobile boot/shutdown animations, so I extracted to stock animations from the international version of the phone. Just thought that I would share it here for anyone else who wanted to get rid to the T-Mobile boot/shutdown animation.
Adding Boot Animations
1. First, download a file explorer on your phone. I personally use Root Explorer, it costs a little but it worth every penny. A free one you can use is ES Explorer.
2. Navigate to system > media on your device. If you see files titled bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsamsungloop.qmg, bootsamsungmini.qmg, and bootsansungminiloop.qmg then you are in the right area. If not, try again to find the right area.
3. Take only the bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsamsungloop.qmg, bootsamsungmini.qmg, and bootsansungminiloop.qmg files from the zip attached to this post and paste them over the existing one.
If prompted by your file explorer, the permission of the files should be rw-rw-rw-
(Please note, if you want to save the stock files to restore them for any reason, replace the qmg on the stock files with XML)
Animation steps are completed!
Adding Boot Sound
For sound we are going to do pretty much the same thing
1. Navigate to System > Media > Audio > UI, if you see a bunch of files ending in .ogg, you're in the right area!
2. Replace the stock PowerOn.ogg with the one in the zip attached to this post.
(Please note, if you want to save the stock files to restore them for any reason, replace the ogg on the stock files with XML)
3. (optional) If you don't like the shut down sound on your device, delete the file title PowerOff.ogg
Reboot and enjoy!
Hopefully that helps out anyone who was having issues. Let me know if you have any other questions or concern!
im with you, ty sir.

Awesome, I am guessing that you would need a file explorer to do anything. Most people on here have recommended ES File explorer. Its free and does a lot of things, but does take some getting used to if your not real familiar with the file structure.
Hope this gets you started in make your phone truly YOURS. Gotta love Android.

Yeah, you do need a file Explorer to do this, I can make this a flashable zip if people are interested though. As for file explorers, I prefer Root Explorer, it's the best out there Imo. It costs a buck or two, but worth it to support great deal.

Make sure that you aren't pasting the PowerOn.ogg where the boot .qmg's go, and make sure you aren't pasting the qmg's in where the PowerOn.ogg goes. I know that's a pretty confusing explanation but that seems to be what would cause the issue for you guys. I'll update the OP with more exact instructions.
As for a flash-able zip, I will try to get the done sometime this week. I have an interview today at work I'm preping for so I probably wont get it done today.

So, the startup animation/sound is working great (thank you!), but it's still T-Mobile sound for the shutdown. Do you happen to have the PowerOff.ogg from international version?
Also, I created a flashable .zip file for the stuff you provided, and a return-to-stock .zip also. If you can provide the file above, I can include it before sending them to you for posting here.
EDIT: I went ahead and posted it without any shutdown sound. The T-Mobile one will restore the original animations and the boot/shutdown sounds also.

Same exact problem, and I'm no noob to this either. Not sure what is breaking it.
I think one of those boot animations (at least one of the four) are corrupt. OP, you may want to have a look at those files and maybe replace them, they might have uploading improperly.
For those who got stuck with a stuck screen, I believe it is the boot animation that is the problem (not the sounds). Replacing the originals does work, just don't use the flash. Here are the original 4 qmg files for the media folder (delete the others out).

I'm confused - are the .zip files that I provided broken? I just now re-downloaded both straight to my phone from here, and they appear to be working...
