Background:
Yes it's true, Motorola has every OTA, every non-accepted OTA, and every non-release OTA and sbf sitting on a sever. Special Motorola employees get access to these, even on their phones through the access of the blur cloud. There are 19 servers.
The Goal:
Project Cheesecake was a success on finding a few dev builds for the Defy, Atrix, and Photon which lead to an unlocked bootloader on these devices. There is bound to be something on ONE of these servers, and eventually we'll strike gold and find an unlock. Just takes checking everyday.
How you can help:
Check the servers every change you get! Every phone is a little different, plus keep in mind these are ftp servers, so you might get lucky when you do your scan and you might catch something someone else didn't see before; or you might find something that was uploaded, and then later deleted. Wifi is recommended (but not required) when scanning the servers.
Prerequisites:
You need to use Root Explorer or another file manager with root permissions, because when you find an update, it's going to put it in /cache and you need to copy it from there to the sd card.
Please be on stock 2.3.5 (1.3.412) or 2.3.4 OTA. If you have deleted stuff or are running a custom rom or something, you will need to sbf for this to work.
Getting Started:
1)You need to be on stock latest OTA!!
2) WIPE DATA AND CACHE!!!!

Now an app does it all for you. Imagine that.
1. Okay, so, download THIS APP RIGHT HERE. Edit: Updated link ~ 0vermind
2. Install the app on your phone.
3. Open the app. Click the first button.
4. Reboot.
5. Open app, click second button. Select a server. QA And Staging servers seem most common for updates, but we need to check them all. The default is in Production -> master-blur.whatever.com if you need to get back to it.
6. now click third button in app to check for update. click setup (the moto account thing is bs). Now if it gives you a wifi error, that means the server is down that you chose. If the server is up it will check for an update.
7. If that didn't work, select a new server with button 2, and then check again with button 3.
8. Any comments in this post about the ghettoness or difficulty of scrolling in my app will result in replies including but not limited to A) Slander, B) flaming, and C) death. Try to keep the thread pretty on topic to cheesecake method and other info. I know my app can be refined, jcase has been giving me some tips on streamlining my programming and su permission reduction, but it does good stuff, don't worry. It even remounts system as RO when it uses it.

The app does Scroll! It's just a bit tricky! -- I have found that if I longpress an item while scrolling up, it works better.

Update Found
Heyo,
I found one update using Froyo in server 'master-qa3.blurdev.com'. The update seems to be weird. The update on the screen was reported to be '1.3.231.en.us' but the update zip was labeled '1.2.148.en.us' which is the same name as the leaked GB OTA update zip. Nonetheless, this is an interesting development.
Please PM me for the file. I don't want people who don't know what they are doing to abuse it.
I'll continue searching through the server list for any others.

Just saw this post and decided to pop in. Great job starting a Cheesecake for your phone =) Hopefully yes, people will be sending me more files to check. I have made a list of files that I've already checked for Bootloader unlock over at the Pudding thread (shameless plug).
Unfortunately, I didn't find anything. =(
The simpons didn't even register.
Maybe next time...
Yeah. I found two and I gave both of those to the2dcour. There doesn't seem to be a bootloader unlock in both files.
The two I found is when you are in Froyo and in these servers:
master-qa3.blurdev.com - 1.3.231.en.us
master-sdc1.svcmot.com - 1.3.232.en.us
master-blur.svcmot.com - 1.3.232.en.us
After taking a nap and returning the my phone back to normal, it seems like 1.3.232.en.us is the same as the last OTA version/the version that P3droid rooted. It doesn't seem to be a special "Dev" version with that special pudding.
Yeah the simpsons servers and both bqa ones didn't allow you to register.
If anyone still wants to take a look, let me know. You can get the mediafire links from me if you PM me.
My thought so far is that when the Atrix leak was found, Moto was at least thinking about unlocking the bootloader for the Atrix and might have been experimenting with the bootloader when the leak was made. I dunno if we are going to catch a bootloader unlock for the DX2 until Moto makes a serious consideration for unlocking the DX2 with their devs.
With that said, I think this was very successful from an execution standpoint and we need to keep up with regularly checking the servers for update files. I say we should pick random times in checking (not just on a Sat. Morning) and vary it up between location (east coast v. west coast) and Froyo/GB base update.
My only thing is that it took me nearly 5 hours to search through all of the servers after all of the wiping cache and going through Froyo's slow factory reset screens so I hope we can really get a few people dedicated for one or two hours and divide it up.

I wonder what the difference is between 231 and 232. And yeah definitely, as far as I know Moto did promise they would be unlocking all their phones, or at least the ones that came out this year..

It's really not that hard. Just follow the instructions in the OP. We would love your help! This project isn't just a one time thing, it's a thing that requires multiple scans every no or then.
The servers that will provide the most luck are the QAs, master-blur, the test server, and the first one.
So I would be doing all this from my phone correct? Don't need a computer just a wifi connect. I want to help but I am on eclipse Rom. It says I need to be stock? Would it work if I was prerooted gb?
Thinkin of making a nandroid of where in at now and when my computer gets going again soon I will be able to sbf back and try some of this.
You have to be on pre rooted gb. When I get home I will package a test build to flash from anything to the required build will everything included. For the sake of progress!

Nice work getting stuff like this organized guys. Im hoping it will be only a matter of time now that google has taken over Motorola. I would think they would want to unleash the moto hardware but the agreements with vzw might be in the way. Hopefully they will "allow" the unlock to slip through the cracks if that's the case.

Here is some cool info I found. When you are connected to one of the dev clouds:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Go To Motorola Services
It will list out a bunch of info regarding the server. Like build date, Blur Version, Server Version, Master Cloud. ect...

What's that? The same sbf as 2.3.3 or is this download link something different that you found?
The sbf is older than the stock froyo build. I thought i was able to unlock the bootloader with this build but its not even in the sbf file.
Anyway its another way for us to get more test builds now that we have 3 sbf's to choose from.

Modded Handsets Getting OTA?
I am curious if only people running Eris stock 1.5 are getting the Verizon OTA or if modded handsets are getting it too?
Specifically, I would be interested in hearing if anyone running the "official" 2.1 leak (someone who unzipped file PB00IMG.zip from their sd card [don't know if this is considered a "rooted" or "leaked" version]) has received the Verizon approved (May 11) 2.1 update?
I'm running the PB00IMG.zip 2.1 on my Eris and have not yet gotten the OTA. Wonder if I will? Thanks for sharing.
I downgraded to 1.5 from v3 root last night, nothing on the east coast here...

Verizon reps usually don't know what they're talking about. They just here rumors like we do. There's been a few people that have gotten the OTA. They said they'll push it out to 1000 the first day, then 9000 the next, so on and so forth. You've just got to be patient my friends.

From what most of the devs have said, you'll still be able to get the official ota even if you're on the leak. Unless they do a **** move and change one of the versions (baseband, kernel, or something. forget which one) to a lower version than what the leakers have. Then you won't be able to. But I doubt they'd do that, as I don't think htc cares and probably leaked 2.1 themselves.
Wifes Eris is stock 1.5 and nothing on hers yet. Will drop a note here when/if it gets an ota request.

Can you do the following and send it to jcase and zifnab06 , see below quote from jcase:
QUOTE=jcase;6454172]If you are a leaker, please follow this tutorial when updating to the OTA. Get us the url to the OTA zip please.
Code:
If you are interested in looking at the process that HTC/Verizon uses for the OTA updates, you can get the URL for the OTA zip the following way:
Run logcat on the pc and accept the update on the phone
$ adb logcat > logcat_accept.txt
This will sit like this (it continues to log output into the output file) until the phone reboots. At that point, the adb logcat job will terminate, and the name of the zip file will be indicated in the logfile in a message similar to:
W/SystemUpdateHelper( 64): !!! REBOOTING TO INSTALL /cache/desirec-ota-104882.7b1e5cca.zip !!!
Then, take the name of the file and paste it on the end of android.clients.google.com/updates/partner, for instance, for the Eris 1.17.605.1 OTA, the complete url is:
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/desirec-ota-104882.7b1e5cca.zip

Yes, you'll just have the reminder each boot that an update is available.
If anyone gets the update please let everyone know. I have been checking every hour since the news was made available.

The above Tweet from Verizon's support staff confirms that the Gingerbread/Android 2.3 update may begin rolling out as early as today for the DroidX2. This newest version should be coming to your DroidX2 within the next few days, and it includes the same version of Blur that can be seen on the DROID3 and Bionic. It also includes a series of bug fixes to improve many aspects of your device. You can see Verizon's .pdf file detailing the update,

Not if you don't agree to Moto's terms and agreement at setup... or if you just remove or freeze the account apps when you do get the sbf up and running.
I SBF'ed and then rooted, installed recovery and made a a backup with all the bloat included... That way I can just use that backup, uninstall recovery and unroot and be good to go...
Matt from the motorola forums said:
So, the tweet actually says "Ginger bread is being pushed out systematically to our Droid X2 customers starting today."
"I think the key words are "pushed," "systematically," and "starting." To me that means you won't necessarily be able to pull it, since it says push. Systematically suggests that as usual, it will start small. And there are still a lot of hours left in the day for it to start."

So it's probably a good idea to SBF to stock or restore a stock backup to get the update? Not really caring about root now, I just want to see if Gingerbread makes this any faster. That will be the thing deciding whether I keep this or sell it and get the SGS2

I would be careful and not count on this. The Atrix one that just came out has a new bootloader and when people try to sbf to froyo it HARD bricks their phones. Go google and checkout atrix forums to see for yourself. Very serious. We don't know for sure at this time one way or the other how it will go with the x2.
Having never owned a device that had a bunch of bloatware on it or any Motorola smart phone, is it recommended to unroot/sbf if all i have done is freeze the recommended apps?
Wouldnt an OTA just rewrite everything I did anyways so it wouldnt matter?

any idea about the ICS rom ETA for Razr GSM version?
I thought I read on the Andoid forums that the ICs for GSM devices was avaiable now.

This was good news to read this morning. The screenshots look a lot like a completed build, which means we'll hopefully be getting ICS soon. The only problem I have with the current version of Blur is the uninstallable bloatware, but at least apps can be hidden. I bought a RAZR because I absolutely love Motorola's hardware. As soon as we can get ICS my phone will have the best software too.
how did you guys put up with motorola locked bootloader policy BS? i know many samsung users will be angry if samsung start doing that, but i don't think samsung will do that anytime soon. maybe in 2-3 years they will lock their bootloader, who knows.
I do not mind the bootloader for now, since I bought the phone knowing it is locked. If I buy a Samsung I know it's unlocked and if they lock it, it is a violation of there own policy and therefore gives me a reason to complain.
If it is Motorola's decision to take down the lock of the bootloader allot of heavy-users and programmers will joy that decision, but if they don not, than it is just tough luck. (Nevermind the fact I like it unlocked also)
The Locked Bootloader is a pain... The trend is that everyone is doing away with the locked, Moto being the only company left that has one... The lock problem prevents us from changing the Kernal and thus limits the amount of things we can accomplish with a custom ROM, Which is why at this time there are only a number of ROMs available to use... most are just tweaks of the exisiting Moto Rom....
You can search this forum, there is alittle more info here, plus a petition drive to contact Moto and voice your complaints....

Is there any chance that we can get ICS for Razr earlier than Q2?
If Motorola start leaking ROMs as much as HTC and Samsung do then yes.. but highly unlikely.. However that being said, we already have a leaked test version but obviously not stable enough to be used as a daily. And also on top of that, there are a few devs working on versions of ICS built from source so although we might not get an official Moto build of it before it's released, we can probably still get a decent cooked version of it soon.
using ics for over a week
I was able to dl the 4.0.3 from the server when it first popped up, after it (the d/l) started i restarted my phone and then went to settings and it showed up there as a ota d/l. I've been using it for over a week now and I've had absolutley no trouble with it. I retained root using voodoo and it autmatically reinstalled all my apps on it's own, all my root tweaks work and it's much faster than the .181 build along with being more detailed in the settings. I've reasd horror stories about people bricking their phones but again it went as smooth as butter, It failed 4 times due to me having the beta swype on and not being able to get it off, but after rsd'ing back to stock and taking all the updates and not adding or changing any programs along the way it went on as it should again under my settings tab not the [email protected] route, not sure why this happened maybe after it's identified the phone it "accepted" it as a soak? phone, I dont know but it's as perfect as I would want, I've been playing with the rooting and roms since the og droid, droid x, droid x2 and the bionic which was buggier than my shed, I don't understand where everyone is having trouble installing it, I believe I'm still on the update path as when I check for an update it allows it to happen and I can connect all my accounts including Motocast which I've read the update killed for most people, a few tweaks under the ro.build reconnected my mobile data and when I check to see what *#*#4636*#* it shows my phone info for preferred network type as unknown (which i dont understand) and under motorola services "push connected" as true, which i believe lets me know that this was considered a legit ota update, now I've been rooting and flashing since the og but am far from being an expert in reading this and may be misinterpeting what I'm reading but so far so good and wouldn't go back to GB for anything, and wouldn't understand why anyone would, much faster, 4g stays connected all the time and the speeds are faster there also, has a different overall feel to the system that is more fluid and hasn't had one hiccup to date, a little long winded but I thought i would give my opinion on the build. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
I've been reading up on rooting and roming my DX2. I'm technically capable, but, stuff happens and I can't really afford for my phone to be down for a few days while I work out a problem.
So... I've been thinking about buying a used DX2 and use it as my testbed/spare phone. It wouldn't be activated, so I presume no OTA updates, but otherwise would that work? Can I do everything but OTA updates with a non-activated Droid X2 phone?
thanks in advance
Yes you can. You can even dl and flash ripped ota's. As a cheap backup this phone is great.

If you follow directions to a t, you won't have to worry about your phone not working. Just give yourself an hour or two and you got it.

They have a point. Follow all the directions word for word. I have got in a hurry and forgot some steps in very crutial times and still have managed to get back to stock. Still no problems. And an hour or two, maybe less, is all it will take. If you need and advice on where to start or what you want to do, use the search. Still can't find it, just ask. Plenty of people here to lend a hand.
I appreciate the input folks. Really. However, as someone who develops linux kernel drivers for astronomy cameras and uses a linux laptop and some bash scripts (with 1wire devices) to control my beer brewing process - I know how easy it is to screw something up (and have many times in the past). I prefer to cover my arse before playing with something I *need* to having working. That, and I kinda like the idea of having a backup phone for when I drop mine in the toilet or something similarly stupid.
note: the step-by-step directions here are in direct conflict with another web sites step-by-step. Who is right? I'm going to gamble on this set, but just in case...
Thanks again everyone.

Its good to be prepared. I like that. With this phone, however, Motorola supplies us with an "in case of emergency" option called an SBF file. If anything goes wrong, you just plug your phone into your computer, start the application and in about 5 to 10 minutes, you are back to square 1.
And about your note, which other site are you looking at? You can pretty much get everything you need for this phone in these forums. ROMs are not universal and you have to use stuff specifically made for this phone. So unless the other site was Droid X2 specific, it wont work.
Yea, I read about that and I'm encouraged. I'd still feel better about it if it was happening on a device I didn't care about though.
I'd rather avoid any finger pointing - it was a popular droid x2 specific site. It stated that using the "zergRush" would not work due to some file sig issue or something like that. I don't exactly recall at the moment.

The only problem that some have had with zerg is that it can delete some files to make space and has caused issues with flashing the newest eclipse...I haven't been on the newest eclipse so I personally have not experienced that particular issue
But I have used it numerous times with good results

this phone is almost impossible to hard brick, if you mess something up it takes maybe 10 minutes to run through an sbf and then your right back to stock. zergrush issue is only for the 2.3.5 versions of eclipse otherwise it works fine.
cm7dx2
2.3.5? As in Android 2.3.5? My phone is stock 2.3.5 now and I need 2.3.5 after this is over with (and eclipse is the rom I was targeting). There's an issue with the compass on this phone and 2.3.4 - E & W are swapped when in portrait mode, held vertically. That's a big deal for me as I use a lot of astronomy apps that rely on that E & W being accurate.
This is why I want to make sure this works on a phone I'm not relying on at the moment.

If you are going to flash Eclipse you do not want to use Zerg. You will need to use Pete's one click root.
Check out eclipserom.com as it is the official site for Eclipse.

Get a Samsung Fascinate, there are plenty of ROM available, ICS runs smoooooth and you can do much more with it.
My Droid X2 hits around 3600 on CM7.2 my Fascinate hits 3300 before I tweak the kernel and overclock it... There is just more available for that device.
Either or, I would suggest staying within these forums, if you don't see it here it isn't available...
PS I swap in and out between phones, it's nice to have a spare
Good luck with everything.

Thanks, but I could care less about overclocking et al. While I'm a huge Samsung fan, I'm sticking with the DX2 for a while. I like it, and it's *rugged*. My son, a fireman, keeps his on him even when fighting fires. Have you seen how thick/heavy a fire suit is? You sweat your you-know-what off in one and you come out soaking wet - and everything else you had on you - phone included. He also has a 1 yr old who uses the DX2 as a toy. She chews on it, drops it, throws it and the damned thing still looks great and works perfectly.
Picked up the "spare" DX2 last night off ebay. I should be able to start playing early next week.

its not direct conflict, zergrush works on 2.3.4 and 2.3.5/1.3.412
not 2.3.5/1.3.418 which there is no direct root method
bricking is very unlikely with the locked bootloader, and the leaked sbfs
if you are trying to flash eclipse and 2.3.5/1.3.418 don't use zerg use pete's root tools
if this is confusing blame moto

Excellent, I will agree on the ruggedness of the X2. I have dropped mine from far above on ladders...and it keeps on ticking
So, forgive me but you want to root and install a ROM on the X2??
Root with Pete's if you are on 2.3.4 then install ota rootkeeper and protect your root...at that you can update via ota and still keep root, after the update completes you just run rootkeeper again to restore root.
Depending on which ROM you want will determine which version of Android you'll need...
Eclipse is the only ROM that requires 2.3.5...
so if you're at Android 2.3.5 I would install boot strap recovery and create a NANDroid backup...
After you create your NANDroid backup you would just flash your ROM, wipe data...etc
If you're at Android 2.3.4 you can do the same as above, just skip the update (don't install it)
If you are at 2.3.5 and you want to install a ROM that requires 2.3.4 you will have to use Rsd to SBF your phone to that version of Android. You can find easy tutorials on how to do that in General...they are stickied....
I stay with 2.3.4 because all the ROM I flash require that.
Just root with Pete's and you'll be fine either way....

So when you receive your DroidX2 what are you going to do?
Surely there is an abundance of info abroad, but have you decided to just do it? Did you download Petes or Zergrush yet?
I hesitated at first, but bam I just did it. I had this whole thing worked in my head preparing to...what if... Then I just did it, exactly how others have stated. Root it, and don't look back, we are always here to help. Moon shadow has a couple guides here for rooting, sbf'ing, etc... If you're uncertain, just ask

I've heard this came out a couple months ago, but my phone as yet to update on its own. When I try and check for an update, it says there are no updates to be found. And when I check my phone, my current software is 3.14.605.12. Anybody know how I can upgrade to the latest? Ever since I upgraded to ICS, my phone has been nothing but trouble for me, and I'm hoping if I upgrade to the latest that some of these problems might go away. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Here is the link to the global update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ Lucky for you, since you haven't unlocked you bootloader or done anything otherwise, you can flash this in your bootloader and get the update with no problem.
Two notes on flashing that...first it's unofficial, so flashing it might risk your ability to get OTA's in the future. Second, it will wipe your data, apps, and internal storage. However, with those two caveats, it will work just fine.
I appreciate the input guys. However, both of you state I need to "flash" to do this - which looks to me (as stated above) it's an unofficial method of getting this update. I'm curious, is there a way I can do this a legit way? How come my phone did not take the update, while others did? How can I force my phone to update? I'd like to keep my phone as stock as possible and not do any modding to it.
If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. And considering the last phone I had that I took any time to mod was the first-gen iPhone, I have no clue what any of this lingo means - but I guess that's what Google is for. However if any of you have a quick link in mind you could post that might help me or at least point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. I looked at the link posted above to the actual ROM file and it has some simple install instructions, however I'm not sure if that's all I need to do considering I'm still fully stock. Thanks again guys for all your help.

your phone is up to date! like they said above and the global is unofficial, therefore putting the global ruu on your phone would be the latest!

Run the 4.03.605.2 RUU. Let it boot 1 time, then wipe and install shrike's CounterShrike CM9 ROM. It's seriously a great ROM and super smooth in comparison to stock. Basically, what this phone should have been from day 1.

So this 4.03.x.x is just not out yet? I've been seeing news articles of them reporting on it as far back as August. Has it just not rolled out to every phone yet? If not, then I will continue to wait. I just thought my phone was messed up and wouldn't take the update.

But waiting on Verizon to Roll out the Update will take a loooonng time. but Sites have the Latest (Unofficial)Build. Unofficial is kind of like Alpha, and Beta. Unofficial is inbetween Alpha n Beta.
It basically gives u global function so if your not going to other countries don't even worry about it. I promise if u take the time to figure everything out and flash it you won't be able to tell a difference. Just skip it

A few people got 4.03.605.1 a week or two after the 3.14.605.12 OTA, but they never mass rolled it out. I know of one person on XDA who got it as an OTA. 4.03.605.2 surfaced a few days later on Android Police, but I haven't heard of anyone getting it as an OTA, and there hasn't been a peep out of Verizon on it.

Awesome, just what I needed to know. I will just be patient then. Thanks!
Yep, basically the only reason why the global update ever made it to light is because the manufacturers like HTC like to "splash test" on a few customers, let them report back bugs and what not, at this point if there aren't any bugs or the bugs that are present are workable, they will release the update in mass to the rest of the public.
Basically, a splash tester knew what they were doing, whipped together that nice little "flashable" ruu package and released it for the rest of us to hack up for our own uses. Usually, we look forward to these little splash test releases because they do contain newer bug fixes, but they also contain new kernels, libs and other useful things we need to continue making roms like aosp or sense 4 work better
I'd say if you want it, go ahead and flash it. Its just not official as they say because it did not arrive onto your phone via ota update directly from htc and verizon. Although it is an official build built by htc.
