Ok, So I didnt have the box checked to not receive the update notification. I have NOT installed or downloaded any of the OTA updates as of yet. and preffer to get the updates here from Dev. I am S-off/Root with Rev. 1.40 Running Different Kernel and rom.
BUT I do have the notification at the top of my phone to do the update and clicking on it does so. My question is How can I get rid of this notification so I can do manual update Via dev?
You can just click the notification and cancel the download.
You can cancel the dl, or Ty
Oops, that reply messed up, cancel dl or try going to the sprint zone app, and uncheck notifications

I got the OTA notice last week and dismissed it as I always do to let the update fallout hit and wait and see how it was going.
Well, now, I get no update notification even if I manually check Settings > About > System Firmware Update.
Normally, OTA messages nag the hell out of you until you update. Now, it shows nothing is available as though Asus pulled the .28 OTA.
ps - yes, to preempt the comments, I know I could do the update off the Asus website, but that is not what I am asking
I'll start with the obvious stupid question: are you sure you didn't update and don't know it?
If you rooted or modified system apps it won't update.

your putting the cart before the horse. You can't have a failed OTA due to modifying system apps until you get the OTA notification to update. So your referencing something that cannot happen until AFTER the OTA update is initiated.
Well you didn't answer the question. I had this happening on my acer iconia. Root + removed system apps the updates didn't show up anymore.

My original question answers your question. So it was a question you needed not ask.
And my answer DOES answer your question. But since your not getting it.. I will try to make it crystal clear....
How the heck could I have a failed update if I dont get the OTA update notification to even update??? I have explained this now in my last 2 posts, though it should have been obvious from the 1st post.

You didn't by chance freeze the DMClient?
No, I did not freeze, kill off, quit or stop the DMClient.
(though I did not even know that process was related to the OTA update or OTA update notification).
i think its just a bug or asus's new thing
i think it'll only tell you once that there is an update as for everybody else, once they tried once and fail, it would say there is no update... sorta weird i think....
Yeah, I have never seen the Asus OTA update nag only nag me 1 time and then never again. Normally, it will nag until you HAVE to update. Same with phones.
This time, I dismissed it 1 time and it never came back and now, I cannot even do it manually in Settings.
It seems like they pulled the OTA update since you cannot even trigger it manually from within Settings.
BTW, I updated my wife's with .28 the same day I dismissed mine.
I got my OTA update a few hours ago (Germany).
Try a soft (pin) reset maybe? Just a shot in the dark.

That is not what he was saying. He is saying if you removed any system apps before installing .28. Not if the update failed and you don't get it again. -_-
I just got my tf201 today. It is on Honeycomb 3.2.1. I tried to update and I get this message. there is no update available for your device currently. The build number is HTK75.US_epad-8.8.3.33-20111223. Kernal version 2.6.36.3
I'm on Lite'ning ROM 3.6 and yesterday I got an OTA update notification.
Anyone knows what this update is about? Is it safe to perform OTA update for custom ROM?
Anyway I canceled it and couldn't get back the update prompt even going to About phone -> Software update

+1 to MistahBungle's post, with one note: some custom ROMs (but not all) have an OTA updater baked into them so that the chef/developer can push out changes. Off the top of my head, I can only name Resurrection ICS as doing this, but I know there's a few others as well. It could be worth checking the thead for Lite'ning ROM to see if they support OTA ROM updates.
screamworks
Thanks to both for your inputs.
Which means that I shouldn't get an OTA update in the first place if I use custom ROM?
I vaguely remember it is a OTA update notification which when I select, opens up a dialog prompting for Ok, Wifi settings or Cancel. When I hit Cancel, it asks whether to remind at various intervals or Cancel. If I select any of the intervals, it stays here in my notification drawer, which I finally opt to cancel completely.
Too bad I didn't capture a screenshot.

This morning I got a notification saying there is a software update available for the EVO 3D. Went to download it and it came back saying there are no updates available. I checked the software number on my phone and it is listed as 2.17.651.5, the new one is 2.89.651.2. Is there any other way to get this update on my phone? It is stock. Thanks!
Did you go to System Updates > HTC software updates? 2.17 is GB and 2.89 is ICS, so since you are stock, you should be able to just take the ota.

Yes, I went into system updates > HTC software updates, then comes back saying no update available. I checked my software and it is still running 2.17 GB so I know it didn't update overnight or something. Just wasn't sure if there is another way to find the update, while still being stock.

It's been a while since I've been stock. If I remember right, the phone should notify you in the status bar of the update after restarting the phone. You can then select the notification and it should run the update.

Correct. And all this happened, minus the actual update....still stuck in 2.17 GB. If you have any other ideas, please let me know!

Keep trying. I was getting the same message this morning (that no update was available), but I just tried the manual update again, and now it tells me there is an update available. My phone is downloading the update. It is 305.76MB in size, so you need a fast connection like wifi to make it go faster.
BTW - the update tells me that I am getting HTC Sense 3.6 along with Android 4.0 so this should be interesting to see.
Good luck!
Jason
Ok, finally getting the update. These are the steps I took to get there:
1) Dial pad: ##72786#
2) Password: 132820
3) Menu > Reset
4) Phone reboots, keep clicking 'ok' while updating firmware, prl, profile, etc.
5) Try to do a software update.
6) If that doesn't work, go into hboot and do a factory reset.
7) Update Profile
8) Update Software
I am now downloading the new software. Thanks to those who gave input!
Today I got the notification that the new system update is available. I thought I wasn't supposed to get these updates if rooted? So, aside from installing this update, which I don't want to do, how can I remove this notification? It comes back after rebooting.
I'm running Stock with Goodies 2.08 or something old. I like it and I don't want to change.
Thanks!
Should be menu/settings/about phone/ software update. Uncheck notifications and reboot. Should remove it. Also if your running stock with goodies then the dev must have left the ability to receive the ota updates. However most dev's remove the ability. You can check the op or ask the dev of the rom to get a definite answer.
Edit-scratch that one about asking the dev.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always=LTE
I don't think there is any support for Stock With Goodies anymore
Oh yea forgot about that.

So i really need some help with this. My phone, like any other g3, had in the settings an option in the general tab for checking for updates. Well now for some reason that option is completely gone. And if Verizon does push out a Lollipop update i want to get it but i wont be able too because A. I'm rooted and i have custom recovery B. I no longer have any option choice for checking for updates C. Even if i try to do an ota update ill get caught in a boot loop. Now i remember at one point in time i did this trick i learned from here to get rid of the OTA update file/ notification but i didn't think that that would cause my phone to lose its option to check for system updates. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me.
Thanks

Use the return to stock thread in the general forum. You need to be stock to get the update anyway, so there is no point in not doing it.
Dial ##3328873 ,send
Type
000000
Second from the bottom on my phone
Check the ota option
But like you were told u should either flash back using tot or
Using your computer and LG mobile support tool or bzw upgrade assistant. Not the ota upgrade.
