Please help- I soft bricked, and have read up on the process to fix, that I need to fix via ODIN. I installed ODIN, Kies, Samsung USB drivers (from an XDA thread link that says they are 'KNOWN' to work), have uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. and the problem I'm having is that my computer will not recognize the phone when it's in download mode no matter what I do.
SO frustrating- any advice?? Much appreciated
Try unplugging the usb and plugging back in

That worked for me. Along with starting with a fresh boot of ODIN after every flash.
How can I do a nandroid restore via adb? I can't do it through clockwork because ever since i flash this aospis 2.2 rom I can't do anything with recovery.
I think your only option if you cannot get to CWM recovery is to ODIN back.
With adb you can put your phone into download mode
adb reboot download
Tried download mode but it doesn't recognize my phone in download mode. It only recognized it when it was on. The moment I adb reboot download it automatically disconnects me from odin.

Can you get into download mode manually?
Hold both volume kyes and insert the usb cable while the phone is off?
Yes, but odin won't pick up the phone. Tried disconnecting usb and plugging it back and it still won't work

What version of ODIN?
Try 1.57 or 1.58 (not sure, I am not a Windows user)
hmm, maybe try different USB port or PC altogether?
There is also an alternative to ODIN http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ for those of us who have no access to Windows, however it has windows binaries.
I'm going to try another computer when I get a chance. At least I'm on a working 2.2 rom that has a working gps
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
anyone know if this is possible?
Every time I plug it in the PC says USB device not recognized!?? The device has malfunctioned yes i have the drivers
WTF I t has never done this before
I am in download mode this happens when you unplug it during ODIN install so my phone needs to be recognized in order to go back to stock.
Get Windows 7

Try another computer, windows XP works best with me everytime dunno why.
thnaks will try tomorrow at my firends house
I had the same problem everyone was telling me that was download mode but it wasn't so get into download with the following instructions.
1. Open odin do not skip this step as you need to open odin first.
2. Take out the battery to turn off the completely
3. Put the battery back in.
4. While holding the two volume buttons plug in your usb cable. Bam your in download mode
Trust me on this method as I freaked out trying to fix it but it worked. Keep trying if it doesn't work.

^ hes not having trouble getting into download mode.. It's the phone isn't recognized by pc...
Have tried restarting your comp yet...? After uninstalling your current drivers than reinstalling after a reboot.
But that isn't download mode I'm sure of it

From my experience the usb port on your device is ruined.... The only way I can think of fixing it is desolder the usb port and solder a new one.... Get a new board for your phone or.... send to samsung. I had the same problem Mine was like a brick and I just send it to samsung.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried a new USB and it still didn't work.
Did you delete/install the new drivers, correctly?
What rom were you on? you made need the nexus s drivers if cm7/miui
EDIT, also, i have posted many times that ODIN NEVER works for me when my webcam is connected. Unplug it and reboot.

Wow thought I was going crazy on my windows 7 computer, if I leave my web cam plugged odin doesn't work, thankfully I have a desktop, so its easy as to the pull the cord
After tinkering with it for a while, I got it to recognize it, and I flashed it. Problem solved right? well no. Odin gave its "pass!" notification, but it only took 3 seconds, and my device was stuck on the same bootloop that drove me to flash it in the first place. Now, no matter what I do, My computer will not recognize it. I obviously have drivers or it wouldnt of worked the first time. same cord, same computer, same version of odin and everything. I have no problem getting the device into download mode, and I have odin open, cord plugged into computer while I put it in download mode, then I plug in device. also run odin as ADMINISTRATOR. Factory reset also Did not fix my bootloop. no sd card inserted. device is US samsung galaxy player 3.6. computer is running Windows vista 64bit

Ive done that countless times and it makes absolutly no difference. do you think maybe i messed it up when i flashed it the first time (to where the computer wont recognize it?) i used the normalboot img to flash it with odin. when I got it to work the first time, the very second I plugged it in it started downloading drivers. also yesterday I reinstalled kies and all of the drivers.
I installed kies and plugged the device in, then kies installed drivers and it worked.

Like I have said, I have gotten it to work on this computer. I did try it on my dads computer (windows 7 ultimate, not sure if 32 or 64) and no luck. I have reinstalled kies twice now. order I do things? open odin (as administrator) with cord plugged into computer ONLY. then put device into download mode and plug it in. thank you all for helping, but it is starting to seem i will never get this thing fixed! someone give me a miracle?
Dont know about 3.6 but with 5.0 you can only flash Zimage ..not boot.img

one other side note, I can tell it is drawing power from the computer. (when i take the battery out it stays on until I unplug it)
and the file is normalboot.tar.md5 (not img) Im not positive what you are talking about. thanks for helping! any info at all could be something I am overlooking

I can give you some advice.
1.Can your device reboot to CWM? If so,you can wipe data.
2.Sure you have the USB Debugging turn on.
3.Sure that Your USB Data Line is intact and it is suitable for you device.
4.I think you'd better change a USB Date Line.......
Once you get the computer to recognize the device, flash factoryfs from odin
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
I already reset it multiple times (power and volume up > reset or whatever it is) cannot boot it (which is why I am flashing it) so I cannot put it in usb debugging mode. the cord is brand new and I have used it to flash the same device the first time. after the first flash it will not connect. I will still try other cords (that I will prob. have to borrow, I only have one) I already have the facrotyfs image, so thanks for reassuring krzee, because I wasnt sure.
Yeah I have the factory fs, now If i can get my computer to recognize the device! Will try other computers/cords whenever I can. again, It is not rooted, so no CWM. I can put it in normal recovery and wipe the data, which as I have said, I have already done 10ish times or so.

Sent from my GT-I8190N using xda app-developers app
maybe I would try it with kies if my computer recognized the thing!
it doesnt have to, just install kies and plug in the device... for me, kies installed drivers while device was bricked, and after that i booted into download mode, and odin recognised it...

It should already have the kies drivers, being i have used the device with kies before it did all this. when I turn it on (just by the power button) then plug it in (BOOTLOOP) it tries to install drivers from the device processor (it comes up with some weird name, googled it and it was the name of the processor) but fails when the device shuts off and turns back on. when it is off and I plug it in, a loading circle comes up but never spins. ive let it sit at the circle for hours. the computer never picks it up and it never does anything.
another thing. when in recovery, what is the "install update from sdcard" option? can I actually load the same file as I would use in odin onto the card and try it that way? I am talking to samsung support right now. they say the problem is internal and it needs to be serviced. it has the custom rom on it can they pick that up? it is not rooted, it is stock but it comes up as custom in download mode

if you have cwm, you can put rom(that is in zip format) to sd card and install it via cwm...

this may sound like a noob question, but does having this "install from sdcard" mean I have CWM?

it might, im not sure does stock recovery have that option too, but you should put rom on sd and try to install it via that option to see if it works..

So i was attempting to originally run a firmware through odin and had auto reboot checked when i shouldnt have.
I now have a tablet that boots up with a back light screen and functions as a normal tablet, but i now have a blank recovery
and i cannot use download mode anymore. ive tried drivers, different computer, the works. No recognition in download mode.
i do not have root and am running 4.0.4
please help :X
Hmmm.
Auto reboot shouldn't have damaged anything in particular. Its exactly as it says - whether you want the tablet to reboot after you've finished flashing a rom.
Just a few questions so that we can help you easier,
-What do you mean by a blank recovery?
-Does the tablet charge via AC? That'll determine whether it is a cable problem or whether it is something else.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
Yes the tablet charges by cable. If I choose recovery option I get a back lit black screen, download mode completely unrecognizable. Currently only boots into standard android.

If u mean that u can go into download mode but can't get a PC to see the device.... I would uninstall the drivers and Odin..reboot PC and reinstall drivers and Odin. Then try. If that doesn't work try a different version of Odin and/or drivers.
I have a Q and A thread with the necessary Odin files and cwm recovery to root the p7510...there is also a link to a qbking77 video.
Good luck...
My problem is I've tried different PCs drivers and Odin files and my tablet still only says waiting for cable in download mode

well then we're down to the old battery drain trick....its been awhile since ive had to tell somebody how to do this....so give me until tomorrow night and ill see if i can find some good links to guides for you...
in the mean time you can google battery drain, bootloader, download mode and just about every other word combination you can think of for this method.....
..... which is to drain the battery to absolute zero...take it out...put it back in...plug the device in...and before the charging screen comes on you need to boot into the bootloader...
i know...sounds crazy, but ive seen it work time and time again...now those werent the exact steps...but i thougbt you would .eed atleast some sort of over view if you are going to go google hunting with me..lol
Same problem
I've the same problem. I'm trying to install Android in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the download mode has "waiting for usb cable". Odin doesn't recognize it, adb doesn't either. The tablet doesn't have an OS. Tried several usb cables, computers. It doesn't have an sd card slot to install from there.
I'm really at lost here , please help
