I had the Odin TMO 2.2 on and then I tried to flash back to 2.1 but totally forgot about probably needing a different kernel. Now my phone can restart but gets stuck at the locked screen on boot-up but I can't slide the screen to get onto the device. It just sits there and vibrates randomly (like it does when an app force closes). I am able to get into Download mode while plugged into the computer and Odin open but Odin does not pick up my device (I have tried to open/close Odin many times too). My PC(win7 x64) does not recognize the device while in DL mode either saying "Gadget Serial" and can't find drivers. I have re-downloaded all the drivers and tried to point the device to them but still no go.
I need some help to get my phone back before the wife kills me for messing with "something that is not broken in the first place"!!!!
Sometimes it just doesn't work on win7, personally I have had success with the pc recognizing dl mode on some win7 systems and failure on others. If you can get to dl mode you haven't lost it, its only a soft brick. What you need is a different pc, preferrably windows xp, load up drivers, odin, hit dl mode and you should be good to go.

Yes!!! I got odin to recognize the phone. I tried to use a pc with xp but still wasnt able to at first. I then installed the latest version of kies and that had the driver to recognize the "gadget serial" device. Then odin and back a live!!

You try rebooting the computer with the phone still in?
Try moving the USB connection to a different port, this will force the PC to redetect it. If that doesn't work, remove the Samsung drivers, reboot, reinstall, then reboot a second time before plugging the phone back in.

Thank you for the advice! I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them rebooted and it picked my phone up again! My phone is not a paperweight anymore! Thanks again for the help!
So my phone crashed after flashing a test kernel for Powerwash 1.2. Everything was fine until the phone froze on the camera app and i had to do a battery pull. Now the phone stays stuck on Samsung's logo. I tried going into recovery and doing a reset but it just stayed stuck. So i plug my phone into download mode and prepare to Odin back to EB01 when my computer tells me it doesn't recognize my USB. I go and reinstall the drivers but STILL it wont recognize my phone so I can't Odin OR Heimdall. i'm at a loss... can anyone help?
ANYONE? anyone at all
Sounds like you need a complete reinstall with odin. Keep trying to use download mode. It will eventually recognize your phone just keep trying.

Do you have access to another pc? I would try odin on different machine

Try using different ports installing correct 64 or 32 bit drivers. use stock cable. Try updating your os. And try a different computer.

Or if u can get into cwm put ur sd card inyo something that reads microsd cards like anotger phone or use an adapter then put a different kernal on

The op fixed his problem...dirty usb port.
Hi guys. I'm trying to revert my wifes ace to stock in order to have it repaired.
It used a cm-based rom and now I've flashed stocklite v6.
The problem is that I can't connect to Odin or Kies on pc via usb. I've reinstalled and redownloaded drivers and Kies several times. Is it because of the rom in the phone?
Please help me with this guys. I've got a toddler crying at my heels as soon as I try to use my pc, so I don't have endless hours searching the net for solutions.
Please
Did you boot into download mode and connect it via USB?
Sent from my WAREZ impulses.
I'll try
That did it. How could I miss something that simple. Thanks!
OK. Odin install of froyo went well. Now i want to install official update via Kies, but no connection. Download mode for Kies also? (tried it but don't work)
you can install gingerbread directly using odin
I had the same problem.. in development settings, try unticking usb debugging. Mine reconnected to usb immediately.

After tinkering with it for a while, I got it to recognize it, and I flashed it. Problem solved right? well no. Odin gave its "pass!" notification, but it only took 3 seconds, and my device was stuck on the same bootloop that drove me to flash it in the first place. Now, no matter what I do, My computer will not recognize it. I obviously have drivers or it wouldnt of worked the first time. same cord, same computer, same version of odin and everything. I have no problem getting the device into download mode, and I have odin open, cord plugged into computer while I put it in download mode, then I plug in device. also run odin as ADMINISTRATOR. Factory reset also Did not fix my bootloop. no sd card inserted. device is US samsung galaxy player 3.6. computer is running Windows vista 64bit

Ive done that countless times and it makes absolutly no difference. do you think maybe i messed it up when i flashed it the first time (to where the computer wont recognize it?) i used the normalboot img to flash it with odin. when I got it to work the first time, the very second I plugged it in it started downloading drivers. also yesterday I reinstalled kies and all of the drivers.
I installed kies and plugged the device in, then kies installed drivers and it worked.

Like I have said, I have gotten it to work on this computer. I did try it on my dads computer (windows 7 ultimate, not sure if 32 or 64) and no luck. I have reinstalled kies twice now. order I do things? open odin (as administrator) with cord plugged into computer ONLY. then put device into download mode and plug it in. thank you all for helping, but it is starting to seem i will never get this thing fixed! someone give me a miracle?
Dont know about 3.6 but with 5.0 you can only flash Zimage ..not boot.img

one other side note, I can tell it is drawing power from the computer. (when i take the battery out it stays on until I unplug it)
and the file is normalboot.tar.md5 (not img) Im not positive what you are talking about. thanks for helping! any info at all could be something I am overlooking

I can give you some advice.
1.Can your device reboot to CWM? If so,you can wipe data.
2.Sure you have the USB Debugging turn on.
3.Sure that Your USB Data Line is intact and it is suitable for you device.
4.I think you'd better change a USB Date Line.......
Once you get the computer to recognize the device, flash factoryfs from odin

I already reset it multiple times (power and volume up > reset or whatever it is) cannot boot it (which is why I am flashing it) so I cannot put it in usb debugging mode. the cord is brand new and I have used it to flash the same device the first time. after the first flash it will not connect. I will still try other cords (that I will prob. have to borrow, I only have one) I already have the facrotyfs image, so thanks for reassuring krzee, because I wasnt sure.
Yeah I have the factory fs, now If i can get my computer to recognize the device! Will try other computers/cords whenever I can. again, It is not rooted, so no CWM. I can put it in normal recovery and wipe the data, which as I have said, I have already done 10ish times or so.

maybe I would try it with kies if my computer recognized the thing!
it doesnt have to, just install kies and plug in the device... for me, kies installed drivers while device was bricked, and after that i booted into download mode, and odin recognised it...

It should already have the kies drivers, being i have used the device with kies before it did all this. when I turn it on (just by the power button) then plug it in (BOOTLOOP) it tries to install drivers from the device processor (it comes up with some weird name, googled it and it was the name of the processor) but fails when the device shuts off and turns back on. when it is off and I plug it in, a loading circle comes up but never spins. ive let it sit at the circle for hours. the computer never picks it up and it never does anything.
another thing. when in recovery, what is the "install update from sdcard" option? can I actually load the same file as I would use in odin onto the card and try it that way? I am talking to samsung support right now. they say the problem is internal and it needs to be serviced. it has the custom rom on it can they pick that up? it is not rooted, it is stock but it comes up as custom in download mode

if you have cwm, you can put rom(that is in zip format) to sd card and install it via cwm...

this may sound like a noob question, but does having this "install from sdcard" mean I have CWM?

it might, im not sure does stock recovery have that option too, but you should put rom on sd and try to install it via that option to see if it works..
