Hi all,
So got my Mozart today. I want to get 7720 onto my device (preferably unlocked)... Although I am having quite a big problem - Zune says my phone is upto date. It is not a branded phone.
I found this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206853
Which is a NoDo ROM which allows you to get the other prerequisite updates needed for 7720 though Zune.
Although as far as I understand you need to have RSPL/HSPL on your phone.
So went and found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16189671#post16189671
So all is good, I am on my way to getting somewhere (after I dunno how many hours) until I get to this..
WARNING TO ALL:
Do NOT use RSPL / HSPL with Mozart 4.XX and other RUU ROMS with MANGO.
It will damage your device. Not a joke.

I do not understand what is meant by "Mozart 4.XX" and what they mean by RUU ROMS with Mango? Would I have a problem loading RSPL (Yes, I am being relatively cautious - just got the phone and cannot afford to brick it or something), putting the ROM on (The one I linked to above) and then updating to 7720?
Also one thing which is a bit weird is in the RSPL/HSPL thread there is the following:
List of supported MIDs:
Gold: “PC92****”, “PC921000”
Mozart: “MOZA1000”, “PD67****”, “PD671000”, “PD671200”
Mondrian: “PD26****”, “PD261000”, “PD261100”
Spark: “PC401000”
Schubert: “PD29****”, “PD291000”, “PD291100”, "PD291300", "PD291500"
Click to collapse
My Mozart's MID is PD67100 - there is one less 0 in my MID... Does that make a difference?
I do not have 10 posts so cannot post in the RSPL/HSPL thread as its in the Development section. A friend of mine has a Mozart, got it a week before me from the same place, and he has 7720 on his and 7004 sucks compared to 7720. It is hardly functional
So if any of you can help me out I would really appreciate it!
Thanks
same problem my MIDs not yet supported by the DFT team HSPLs
same problem as you, I can not install a HSPLs, because my MID="MOZA100" there is one less 0 in my MID too , it's not yet supported by the DFT team HSPLs
(List of supported Mozart MIDs: “MOZA1000”, “PD67****”, “PD671000”, “PD671200”)
but I try anyway:
1 - Launching RSPL (it reboot and see RSPLX.YZ and "CotullaRSPL" on the screen - the task done!)
2- Installing HSPL (it seems to be successful until the end, but when I boot into bootloader sees me as no modifications are made)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227070
Hey, so you tried it on your Mozart which has an unsupported MID - one less zero and the RSPL worked for you? If I can get RSPL or HSPL working would me flashing my phone with the ROM I linked to work and then from there updating to Mango?
Is there anyway I could brick my device by trying? I still don't know what they meant by don't try it on "4.xx"?
EDIT: Also what if you were to try flash your WP7 device with a custom ROM and you do NOT have RSPL/HSPL on your phone?
Thanks
Tigros, I went and re-read the RSPL/HSPL thread and I think we skipped through it a bit too fast.
I noticed this:
!Please note that on SPL screen MID is only 7 symbols, without last one.!
Programs stops any operations if unknown MID detected. If your device have unknown MID, please report about it in this thread. Specify your MID, device name, ROM versions. It’s nice, if you can give a link to download ROM.
Click to collapse
So the SPL will only be 7 digits long in the SPL and not 8 as displayed in the thread and if our MID was not supported then it would not let us put RSPL/HSPL on.
Also the DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1.rar download is corrupt for me. I have tried downloading it multiple times. I am assuming your version is not corrupt, could you please upload it for me?
Thanks
EDIT: Ok, so forget about what I said about needing G1, just downloaded Revision #2 and installed RSPL, then HSPL (did not realise you had to have HSPL, got it now though). FLashed with the custom ROM I linked to and now just need to try keep my device unlocked while updating to 7403.
Going to try unlocking it first and then following ansar's guide. See if that works as doing what he said did not work for me :-/
~sigh~
So after updating to 7403, Zune does not detect any updates so I think I will be waiting for a Mango custom ROM
Also my market place has never really worked? Really annoying. South Africa is supported as far as I know.
you must install the new beta zune 4.8. then your phone will be detected. the version can you find in the forum or at google.
The most important first is the fact of installing hspls (RSPL launch is a step for installing hspls no more)
while hspls is not installed you can not install other ROM
because the original SPL and Does not allow to flash custom ROM.
I tried following Ansar guide, but it does not work no more

I was running 4.8 (dunno which build exactly) although now Zune is completely screwed as I uninstalled it to install 4.7 to use Phone Backup to make a backup of my upgrading progress. Zune uninstalled, although it still thinks that it is installed so I cannot install any version of Zune as it says it is already up to date yet there is no version of Zune on my PC at all.
So I am going to try and post on the Zune forum, see if someone can help me otherwise I may have to format again - not amped to as I just formated last weekend.
ahlMAR, which exact version of Zune will give me the update for 7712 (I think that is what comes after 7403?)...

Hey all,
I have a Hero on 3 UK network and since the stupid network dont seem to be releasing any updates for it, I want to root it and manually put 2.1/2.2 on there.
Problem is, NONE of the guides on how to flash it work.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Goldcard method - I have succesfully created a goldcard using a Kingston 1GB card (tested on a Desire and works). Trying to downgrade to the stock HTC ROM using HTC's RUU gives me error 140 (bootloader version error).
Rooting the phone - Phone is all hooked up to ADB, can poll it for information etc. Tried to boot it into a recovery image but get an error saying the following: "downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
Alternate rooting method - So I found out ROM version 2.73 or whatever it is has some kind of extra security on it. The guides are advising me to download flashrec.apk and install on phone to backup then flash the recovery sector of the phone. This doesnt work. I can neither backup nor apply the recovery images. Even if I override the backup part, it still wont work Just gives me yet another error.
Seems that my Hero is locked down with some impossible to break security. Anyone else having the same difficulty with Three UK? If so are there any other ways you guys may have come up with to root/flash your phone? I'm getting really pissed off with it and am probably going to do an insurance job on it if I cant flash it.
FYI, this phone has not been updated since August 2009. Everything on it is stock from Three UK.
Versions (if you think it's useful):
Firmware: 1.5
Build: 2.73.771.62
Baseband (radio): 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22
Kernel: 2.6.27-430d1aea
Any help I shall be most grateful for!!
Follow my newbie guide. Should talk you through it step by step.
The bootloader error is probably a driver thing. Update your HTC Sync and it should update the drivers.
Sorry, just noticed the thread got moved, my mistake.
Anyone able to shed any more light on it?
I followed the noobie guide and it didnt work. I have the latest version of HTC Sync installed.
Insurance job looking more likely.
Still with error 140? Did you update the driver in fastboot / bootloader mode?
Alternatively try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118

Which one is your noobie thread mate? I followed several threads off this forum all claiming to be noobie. TBH, they were all pretty straight forward enough, and worked when I helped my mate flash his Desire.
Min can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 (it's also in my signature )
Ok yeah, I'll just go over the points in your guide then explain how it failed...
Using Flashrec to backup and apply a recovery image...
Flashrec simply doesnt work on my phone (have tried about 3 different versions, including the very latest which is 1.13). No functions work. Cant even use the bypass backup button (hidden button to the right of backup button). That section ended there for me.
Goldcard method...
No matter what RUU I try to downgrade to, it does not work. Keep getting error 140 (incorrect bootloader version). The goldcard I made definitely works as we used the same one to downgrade my mates Desire today.
I found some other guides, which looked like they might help as they go a bit further, but ultimately every time I try and actually do something, it gets blocked, access denied or some other error.
Flashrec won't work if you're on the wrong version of android (i.e. not downgraded using goldcard).
Goldcard is fine it is most likely your drivers in your bootloader mode that are wrong - check them first.
Drivers were ok. I managed to downgrade using a newer version of the stock HTC ROM after scouring these forums for hours.
So in short... ALL GOOD.
Only problem I have now is that there is no manual update option on eclair (1.5). The 2.1 FOTA updates attempted to download before I setup the WiFi and now it wont come back.
If you want to stay official then you can put the month forward a few and the update should show up again.
Surely the point of this was to get root and a custom rom though no?
The point was actually to get Droid 2.1 'cos 3Uk are dragging their heels big time, but now opens up the options of loading custom ROM's.
TBH I'm happy just to have 2.1. Eclair was doing my head in with all its bugs.
Thanks for the tip with the date - it worked!
i wounder if you did it or not ? cuz o have the same demmn problem with my hero G2 touch t-mobile nothing work for me i try all methods i think last solution is to bring a big hummer and break it as i like (
Fellow 3 UK Hero Owner
I'd just like to add how angry I was when the 2.1 update failed to show up. The Goldcard method worked perfectly for me, then I looked at custom ROMs. I currently run Gingerbread and I have to say, not only is it SUPER fast and smooth but its way less buggy than the stock Hero ROMs.
I'm with the Cronos crew. To get the latest ROM, search for cronosproject (.org) and click forums. (cant post link because i haven't posted 8 times )
Seriously, you wont regret it
best way to fix this is...... make sure u have a file manager, download universal androot to your computer and then to your phone install through file manger and root phone then once rooted install rec image with rom manager from market.....there you go its rooted now follow my guide to flash custom roms properly and to root phones....
mayb its ur android version
may i please know it i can surely help you
This is a guide on how to flash a new ROM to your HTC 7 Mozart, without using Goldcard. This method can be used to update your ROM or to debrand your phone.
This method was outlined here by theintelligent. I've also used info from here by alalai. I take no credit for discovering this, but thought it deserved a pinned topic to help stop the multiple "how do I flash" topics and to make it easier for users to find the information.
Before you start
This WILL debrand your phone (remove network customisations) and it will enable you to receive updates as soon as Microsoft release them (rather than waiting for the operators).
It WILL NOT unlock your device (to allow you to use other network's SIMs). You will need to use a commercial service for this.
You WILL be able to update your phone to NoDo (and later leaked versions when they appear).
Preparation
I'm not sure why, I think it may be due to getting the right drivers installed, but you will need to install one of the following:
Windows XP users:
Install Microsoft ActiveSync .
Windows Vista/7 users:
Install Windows Mobile Device Center - make sure you install the right version 32/64bit depending upon your OS version.
Ensure that your phone's battery has at least 50% charge.
Download and flash your ROMs
Yes, I said ROMs - if you want to debrand your phone, you will need to download two sets of ROMs. If you're just updating and not debranding then you'll just need to download one ROM.
Download a ROM which is by the same network as you're on (for example if you're phone is currently locked to Orange UK then download RUU_Mozart_Orange_UK_1.22.061.10_Radio_5.50.09.18_ 22.24.50.09U, by ansar. - do not download 1.30!).
Open up ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center
Flash this ROM to your phone (you may not need to do this step, but most users will).
Turn your phone off.
Put your phone into Bootloader Mode - this can be done by pressing and holding the Volume Down Key & Power Button.
Plug your phone into your PC, hopefully a HTC USB driver will install.
Once the driver is installed your phone should display USB mode.
Extract the zip file and then run the exe file
Run through the update process
When your ROM is flashed, your phone will want you to customise it - just do the basic stuff.
Download the ROM you would like to flash (e.g. RUU_Mozart_HTC_Europe_1.30.401.01_5.54.09.21_22.33 b.50_RELEASE).
Extract the unbranded ROM zip file and then extract the exe file (WinZip will not do this - try 7zip or similar).
Copy the RUU_signed.nbh from the unbranded ROM
Extract the branded ROM exe
Paste the RUU_signed.nbh from the unbranded ROM to branded ROM
Plug your phone back into the PC in bootloader mode
Run RomUpdateUtility.exe file from the branded ROM (but with the unbranded RUU_signed.nbh file)
Follow the steps...
Et voila, you'll have (if all goes well) and unbranded ROM installed
Last step, plug your phone back into your PC and run Zune. Your phone should receive the latest cumulative update.
Let me know if anything isn't clear or needs updating. I am not going to list all ROMs, but there are a plethora of them available here.

Yes, if you're sure it's unbranded, then you can flash any ROM you like. Just make sure there's no difference between Asian and European models (I honestly don't know either way).

This is probably a stupid question but, after debranding can you still install operator specific apps (such as Orange UK's 'Your Orange' app) from the Marketplace?

I'm not sure if you can cross regions - I haven't tried it - someone else here may know. Maybe try another ROM.
Hi,
Great post.
If you going to flash via the bootloader then AS or WMDC do not need to be running.
Before attempting to flash a device ensure the battery has a charge of more than 50%
It is always good practise to perform another hard reset after flashing a ROM.

Hi,
I think you will need to create a goldcard and purchase a cable (new days) or even HARD-SPL or CID (old days) to unlock your device if you want to flash ROMS from different regions, when the option becomes available for the Mozart. (if ever).
Random Apps
I downloaded and installed the rom for the unbranded mozart for europe and HATE the fact you can't select the uk keyboard... So I installed the original orange one from ansaar but it has these silly apps that I can't uninstall... anyone know how to get rid?
As the ROM is branded then you cannot get rid of the carriers customisation, as for the keyboard, this is really no big deal, the £ key can still be used, and its not as if its a full qwerty anyway.
I have a UK Orange Mozart (Sim Locked) and unbranded to the Euro 1.28 using this method. When I connected to Zune it immediately wanted to upgrade the OS to the Pre-NoDo update but it refuses to see NoDo.
However there are reports of people flashing unbranded 7389 OS builds successfully getting the Official NoDo via Zune who are also in the UK so it's very unclear how MS are "Delivering" the updates. What do Microsoft really mean by "Open Market" ?
What isn't clear is if the unbranded phones were also sim unlocked.

I wrote this guide after flashing my girlfriend's Mozart (which was OrangeUK branded) to Euro 1.30 which was OS v7389 and as soon as the 7390NoDo update was released she was asked to update.
So, yes, I'm unsure. Perhaps they are going by OS version. But if you want NoDo, then flash 7389 (which is essentially NoDo anyway) and then you'll get updated to 7390.

Yep. This completely reformats your phone - it's not the same as the update process. You'll lose everything - so backup your data with Zune.
That being said, you can just re-download your apps (even your paid apps).

Hopefully no-one minds me registering to ask for advice on de-branding. I have a question about the part of the procedure above where the branded ROM is first flashed. The version for my phone is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007277
But, when I unzip that, there's no complete .exe as it's already been extracted. The unbranded ROM is an .exe which I had to extract with 7zip, though. So, what .exe should I run for the initial flash with the branded ROM (e.g. RomUpdateUtility, EnterBootloader, something else etc.)? Thanks.

Hi,
I recently updated my Mozart to Mango via the beta invitation.
The reason being that I was unable to force the Mango update via Zune and was not included in the first update wave.
So I activated the beta invitation that I had received several months ago (I'm a registered developer) and set up a PC with the old beta versions to flash my Mozart.
After going through all the updates (I was on 7392) including ISV, I am now on 7720.
However, my phone did NOT update the firmware.
I am therefore currently stuck with:
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.12803.111
Radio software version: 5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10U
Bootloader version: 1.28.2250.3(113810)
But my OS version is: 7.10.7720.68
Do you know of any way to get the new firmware revision and the new radio software? (I would like to keep my data on the phone and would therefore be happy, if I don't have to reflash a Mango-rom that has these updates included)
Thank you very much in advance
Best regards,
FrozenLord
little info
The only words I can say is that after offical update (free phone in france,)
figures are:
Firmware : 22.50.21.40.600.401
Radio: 5.69.09.05a_2250_50_50_21U
spl; 4.6.2250.0 129193
i have the same later radio and firmware version numbers as well, after tricking the update with the Zune and Local Area Connection disable method.
Hi,
I do know that you receive these updates when updating via the regular way (even if it's tricked).
Unfortunately, this way was not possible for me - for a reason I don't know.
So I used the approach I explained above and am NOT able to do the regular update.
Does anybody know of any way to update these components separately?
Best regards,
FrozenLord
I updated my wife's Mozart to Mango 7720 via the 'leaked' MS employee release. Her phone still had the original firmware after the Mango update like yours. I was beginning to anticipate having to reflash her phone with the Stock ROM when two days ago she got a message of an update in Zune. Sure enough it was an HTC update that brought the firmware up-to-date, the same as mine updated via the public release. You just may need to wait a bit longer.
Sent from my T8697 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hi,
I have the same problem. My carrier is also t-mobile germany. Maybe it is a problem from them??? If you find a way to tricker the firmware update. please let me know.
I finally found a way
Hi there
After a lot of fiddling around, I have finally found a way to upgrade the radio rom without losing the private data.
You will need at least the following applications:
- A modified RUU so the flash is not erased after the update (which is a standard procedure in the standard RUU, so use the modified one and ignore the HD7-part - it works!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204733
- The actual radio update (5.71.09.02a from the HTC Mozart Europe ROM) https://rapidshare.com/files/1216711649/RUU_unsigned.nbh
Now, before you start doing anything that you might regret or wonder about later, I suggest that you read the complete post
I've tried to explain all the pieces and posted my experience too.
Just for security (better safe than sorry!), you should create a complete backup of your phone to fall back to if anything goes wrong.
A great tool is provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14258464#post14258464
Now for the instructions
I am not responsible for your actions or any consequences that are caused by this mod! You do all this on your own and can hold no one responsible but yourself!
Download both files and extract them into the same folder.
Reboot your phone and keep the VOLUME DOWN button pressed, while turning it on
You should see the SPL-screen (a strangely colored screen like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16189686&postcount=3)
Connect the phone via USB to your PC
(Windows should install a driver - if not, install Windows Mobile Device Center if you're on Windows Vista/7)
Fire up the modified RUU and click through
You should be ready to go
By the way:
I almost killed my phone in the testing procedure because I created an invalid nbh (had no idea what I did and started fiddling without tutorials ), which seemed to have killed parts of my SPL...
The process was easily fixed (fortunately) by applying the HSPL by DFT, which fixed the problem (which was that my phone always booted back into the SPL-screen, unable to boot into WP7).
But since that moment, I've got HSPL installed.
So if the above procedure does not work for any reason, install HSPL and try again
HSPL can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
Also, I updated the ROM using a standard RUU and found out about the FLASH-format after applying the update the hard way (resulting in a totally clean mobile...).
Fortunately, I had created a complete backup before and was easily able to restore it via the same application.
Should you happen to run a normal RUU for who-knows-what-reason, just restore the update. (the radio rom is NOT downgraded in the restoring process, so you're good to go, even if you chose the wrong RUU)
Just out of curiosity (and knowing that I had a backup to fall back to) I reran the update process using the modified RUU (see link above) and the flashing went fine - and the phone did not format itself afterwards
Therefore: Ignore the HD7 in the name, it works for the HTC 7 Mozart too.
I used this tool to extract the Radio-rom (and the including customisation) and repacked it using the same tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260757
Thanks a lot, ted973 for providing it
Additionally, I am glad that DFT had released the HSPL for my phone, else I would have had a problem
Thanks a lot guys!
Now have fun with the updated radio and feel free to comment
My versions are now:
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.12803.111 (unchanged to before)
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Bootloader version: 1.32.2250.1(119496) which is because of the DFT HSPL
Best regards,
FrozenLord

did you debranded your mozart or did you have an unbranded device in the first place ?
i'd like to figure out a way to get the latest radio on a debranded mozart. seems like zune doesn't update the bootloader and radio on a debranded device.
I've got a T-Mobile branding.
But the procedure should work for an unbranded mobile as well
thanks a lot. will try to get my debranded phone to the normal update route with your tip.
I bought a used nokia lumia 800 yesterday and everything goes fine!!! Except one thing!
When i go to marketplace and try to download something it says that something goes wrong and i have to restart marketplace or mobile!
I have done it but nothing...
The error code is 805A0190!
I cannot solve it after many hours trying...
The mobile has bootloader and has some programs from the forum (WP7 tools, WM device center, winTT, file deployer, Ds supertool which i dont know and understand anyone of these programs) and i think the problem has to do with that,
I ask for help if anyone knows...Thanks!!
similar problem
I have similar problem but my error code is a little bit different: 805a0194. Could not find any solution.

And what are u doing about downloading apps?
You download from the marketplace from Internet explorer??
Any other ideas???
There is apparently a problem with the Marketplace at the moment (something to do with certificates) so maybe it's to do with that?
Link explaining the problem
I hope...But in my case i cannot download any app!! I tried so many...
So i dont know...

I had this issue using a custom cooked rom that used ultrashots full unlock and flashed it onto my lumia. Everything works ok as long I did not update to Tango.
After the helpful advice from ultrashot to change a file in the unlock-package and recook and reflash averything is ok. So your lumia one of the rare one's with a full unlock, cause you have WP7 Root Tools in it and functional.
this is what ultrashot recommends to change when cooking a full unlocked tango rom and it works in my case
Code:
Hi.
You must use uZMF_Serv.dll from Dynamics 1.21. I am not providing any packages - just get my rom and unpack it. Original file will lead to working Marketplace but not working XBLive games.
Next unlock won't need this patch.
If you never cooked a rom, send me a pm, I'll share my own. Then you'll have to flash it onto your device.
2. way, but not tested:
I'll never tried if it is possible to copy the file in question onto the correct folder, but I doubt, that it remains a reboot. If you do not know, what all this is for: sell your phone here to someone needing the unlockable version and buy a not unlockable phone, so your problem is solved, because it is caused by the unlock.
(I'll guess that the price earning while selling a so called qualcom-bootloader nokia lumia is higher then the falling prices for new lumias with dload-bootloader)

Thats the reason, because I advised you to sell it.
If you don't know how to flash your lumia to another custom rom or to a stock rom, you should read here or in the developer-forum . If you feeling able to do the mentioned steps to flash (and keeping in mind, that there is a ability to brick the phone, if you fail) I can support you with a functional rom, that remains the unlocked status of your phone. Theres no other way I see to overcome your error with marketplace as flashing another rom, cause there is a wrong library in the rom, your seller flashed before he sells the phone.

I had an android phone before that and i know about flashing roms and such things (basics) but with the new one wich has windows im not experienced ...
If u can plz show me one good rom for flashing and the ways...
thanks
Hi,
All,you need to know is written in the threads I mentioned in my last post. I prefer the Linux dd method, other like the Nokia care suite method, I think it depends on your Linux skills, which U use If you do not need the unlock, use navifirm to download a stock rom, you can open the largest .esco file with a unzipper and use the image file in it as your flash rom. Here at xda are several manuals and howto's about.
If you like to remain unlock, use some of the custom roms in the lumia 800 dev thread here at xda.
Regards

Yesterday I wasted a significant amount of time trying to update my stock AT&T branded HTC Titan from 7.1 (7720) to 7.8. I figured I would provide what I learned in order to get it working.
1. Backup your phone.
2. If you haven't updated your bootloader from the one that shipped with the phone, you need to do so. You'll get an error otherwise.
Instructions and download link here. I had to factory reset my phone before the HTC update program would recognize that the Titan was connected to my PC.
3. Follow the standard instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415, choosing everything from 7720 (7.0.7403.0 - 7.10.8107.79) to the recent 7.8 cabs. I only needed the English language files for my update to work. You can put them all in the root folder for WP7 Update Cab Sender. Hit send.
4. Wait patiently.
5. Setup your phone again.
6. Enjoy.
I'm not responsible if this doesn't work for you, or if it messes up your phone. I just thought it might be helpful to someone not looking to waste their time.

Upgrade your bootloader to what; the HTC update to 2.6.160015.3 or Cotullah's HSPL? If you opt to use Cab Sender you may update from 7720 to 7740 to 8107 to 8112 to 8773 one build at a time or if you set it up correctly all of the incremental builds in order. I'm assuming you tacked on 8858 to the list or did it separately. I'm curious to know if there is anything different at the core of the "official" update than what currently is available on custom ROMs but for those of us who are HSPL and using 7.8, we'll patiently wait until chefs here take a look at it and deploy their magic.

Yes, in order to do the cab method on the ATT Titan, you do need to upgrade to the 2.6 bootloader. -don't really know why though. As several Titans could not go through the full cab upgrade process to Tango without it.
Upgraded to 7.8
I used the jaxbot Seven-Eighter app on windows phone hacker website (its a name not a hack) and it worked like a charm. I have (had) a locked 7720 ATT Titan (1) and used first jaxbot's updater to make sure the phone had 7720, then upgraded thru all the intermediate releases to 8858. Yeah it took some time, maybe 5-7 minutes per build, but after 30 minutes I was done with no loss in already installed apps, texts, phone calls, passwords or....
8858 is not such-a-much in the "bells and whistles" department; in fact, the only changes I saw (as expected) were the ability to small size the tiles and have more and starker background colors. I am sure there are lots of under-the-covers changes and bug fixes that are not so obvious. But after failing to upgrade my Titan while trying debranding, CABing to gold carding over the past year, all to no avail, it sure was nice to smoothly go to 7.8.
And what a rush. After a year of no ROM loads on the Titan, compared to having averaged 1 new flash PER WEEK on my Fuze, Tilt I, Tilt II, and HD7S - wow what a fix.

You're Air Force? I'm a former weather forecaster now in college full-time majoring in mathematics (calculus) to compliment my meteorology training. HSPL is by no means an easy task though I successfully did it twice but each very different experiences. Prior to HSPL the devices I incrementally added those builds too via Cab Sender. I'm not aware the official release is any different than those of us custom flashing our devices; the build we're using is also 8858.136 and as you know when it boils down to the OS it's mostly cosmetics though I saw some security updates and Bluetooth compatibility but like 7.x and 8.x you still can't use a Bluetooth keyboard on the Titan. What drove me nuts about Windows Phone is the inability to side load apps which I think is just ridiculous. There is an incredible amount of apps out there not on any the varying Marketplaces which again seems stupid to me but by far Nokia has a good selection of apps though many are redundant among the other device makers. I loved my Rhodium (Touch Pro 2/Tilt II) which I flashed the hell out of that thing and continue to use it as a GPS device and backup phone. I have an HD2 that like many here I've done about everything with and it runs Windows Phone 7.8 flawlessly though at the moment I have Jellybean on it.

Is there a difference between upgrading to 7.8
- via the seven eighter or
- via the official at&t update (that is not available yet)?
It's probably a stupid question as at&t doesn't have anything for the Titan, but I'm wondering if there are differences usually?
Different marketplace? Different drivers? Different ringtones? Anything?
Update: I see it doesn't change anything, which is pretty cool!

There "might"/should be a new bootloader -seeing the ATT Titan is still at stock SPL ..."IF" ATT does push out the update. But seeing that T-Mobile skipped the official 7.8 update for their devices, my reassurance that the ATT Titan will actually receive an official update is somewhat diminishing now.
But honestly, everyone is better off just doing the cab method...or attempting the unlock process. Grandma death will be knocking at your door if you end up waiting for an official update from our stupid carrier.

Completely agree with that last sentiment; twice promises were made and twice broken and now there is this stupid law in regards to carriers and subsidy "locked" devices.

interesting, I used seven eighter on a half-bricked ATT titan (stuck on the euro 1.9 rom). the only errors I got were after the update process...with certain languages not installed -causing applications to not respond. I flashed via goldcard to the 1.9 rom after and redid the update process with the correct languages and everything worked.
I know you have been half-bricked for awhile nikola, is it possible for you to flash via goldcard to a euro rom? IF so you would most likely get the 7.8 update through zune (which I was actually working for me until I decided to just do the seven eighter app).
its like u said install spl 2.6 and we roll now i have wp 7.8
I am on HSPL and for some reason I cannot upgrade to SPL 2.6. It loads fine via RUU but the SPL never changes to 2.6, stays stuck on 2.5 even though I have HSPL. Beccause of this I guess I cannot get 7.8 update either

It will never change to SPL 2.6 after flashing the 2.6 SPL. -simply because you are stuck.
However, for some reason, it will let you upgrade to 7.8 if you do flash 2.6 (even though it did not change)

Great Info on upgrading HTC Titan to Windows 7.8
Thanks a million. I had wasted a couple of evenings trying to upgrade and keep getting error messages. I followed your recommendation and updated my bootloader from the HTC website and used the Sharp&7Loader and that was it. After about one hour I have 7.8 on my HTC Titan phone.
