[Q] Unable to flash any MTD rom - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm unable to flash any MTD rom. I just got a new 16gb sd card from verizon because MIUI 1.8.5 ate the sd card.
Anyways, I flashed back to ED05 stock, flash CWM 4 fixed for CM7, clear everything, then attempt to flash any MTD rom. The recovery then goes in an endless cycle of:
Waiting for SD Card to mount (20s)
Waiting for SD Card to mount (19s)
...
then flashes some text at the end about applying an update, then cycles.

Have you formatted it?

Yes, I've already formatted the SD card.

I was in the same boat for a while. I finally gave up and went back to ComRom 2.1. I did, however, finally get to CM7 once by flashing the Glitch kernel before I flashed CM7. The CWM that came with CM7 wouldn't mount my sd card either so I couldn't flash anything after that so I gave up.

Mount Internal SD from Clockwork

The only threads I could find did not have an answer to them so I will ask, is there a way to mount the internal SD on this phone while in clockwork recovery so I can transfer a custom rom over too it or do I really need to Flash one, copy one wipe and then flash again.
I was in same spot you are in. Couldn't mount didly squat, so I went ahead and flashed JI6 where I had the OEM firmware installed before. I was surprised to see I kept most of my files where I figured the thing would have been wiped clean...

CM7 Flashing

Do I flash the new CM7 ROM with HBOOT or Clockworkmod?
Thanks in advance
You flash the ROM using ClockworkRecovery.
You flash the RADIO using HBOOT.
If you are just rooted, and have NOT flashed a new updated radio, just download the CM7 (MR1) version and load that through ClockworkRecovery.
Get used to CM (and flashing radios/roms) before flashing the MR2 radio.
Or do some serious reading and note taking so you know the correct steps to follow.
Thanks! Really helped and it worked.
One problem: When I flashed it, everything was fine, and I chose to erase the SD card, and now it's blank. How do I go about formatting it so that it's writeable again
Go into CWM. Choose mounts and storage, then format SD card.
"Error formatting /sdcard"
tried to mount it
"Error mounting /sdcard"
Try it in another android device. Or if your PC has a SD card slot you can format it there with an adapter.
Reformatted from an adapter, thanks a lot! Should I ask other questions here or start a new thread?

[Q] Install CM7 ROM problem

Noob question.
Installing CM7 with CWM and ROM Manager, I'm getting can't mount /emmc
using internal SD with "the hard method", rooted with SOC
do i have to partition the SD card?
Dont flash CWM with ROM manager...use Odin to flash CWM kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823). Also, dont use internal SD option, just go to install from SD in CWM and find the file...I had issues installing CM7 so let me know how it goes for you.
What the reply said. I initially had troubles trying to install from my SD card, so I just used root on my internal SD card. I flashed CM7 from CWM rather than using ROMManager, and ended up having my phone hang at boot. After some research, I discovered there's a glitch where the flash doesn't work correctly, so you actually have to flash CM7, and then flash it again right afterwards. Works like a charm for me now.
Hope this helps!
thanks for the replies both of you!
i did get CWM flashed ok...v5.0.2.3
when i'm in CWM, i disable signature checking then install from zip from internal sdcard and i get
E:Can't mount /emmc/

I think internal and external SD card are switched somewhere in CWM.
thanks! how do i fix that?
ok, yes Entropy you were right, the internal sdcard gives the /emmc error, the zip from sdcard works, and cm-galaxys2-full-75.zip starts installing then give the following
asset failed: getprop....
E:Error in /sdcard/cm_galaxys2_full-75.zip
(Status 7)
i also tried toggle script asserts
i figured it out, it was the galaxys2 nightlies from rommanager, not the galaxys2att, trying that now...
I don't think the euro GS2 nightlies work with ATT GS2, I could be mistaken though.

Thanks dan40hands,
I got it working with the ROM posted in Dev...
Doesn't look like the euro nightlies work...

Use this one http://www.multiupload.com/73J3G4C1CV
1. Boot into CWM
2. Nandroid back-up
3. Wipe data & cache
4. Choose install zip from SD card
5. Select the file downloaded above and install
6. Repeat step 4 & 5
7. Reboot and Enjoy
Why would you have to do 4 and 5 twice. Ie install it twice?

Oddity with Cyanogenmod in regard to coming from Samsung-derived ROMs, I think involving filesystem formatting. It was the same on the Infuse. Once you're on CM7, you'll only have to do updates once.

[Q] Fascinate won't mount sdcard with CWM

I am re-rooting my Fascinate, had to return to factory settings via odin due to my phone not booting after trying to flash a new ROM.
SD card will mount fine and be recognized in Fryo, but when I reboot into recovery CWM will not mount the SD card.
So now, I cannot flash superuser, and cannot get the phone rooted. Any ideas?
Try a new sdcard. It must be class six or higher.

Formatted SD before flashing ROM in CWM

Tried to replace one custom rom with another using CWM. But instead of formatting sd-ext (after formatting all else too obv), I formatted sd card. Now when I turn phone on I get "android" in the middle of the screen and nothing else happens obviously :S.
How should I proceed?
edit: figured out how to enter CWM again to flash a rom, but how do I put rom onto SD card as my computer doesnt recognise phone
edit2: figured it out! had to choose mount storage in CWM!
wohoo!!
Or you can just use a card reader
