Guys! now I am fed up..seems that they will never release honeycomb upgrade...
Anybody any news???
Try living in the US and being ignored even when it comes to small updates.
Think we'll see Honeycomb around the time the Puccini launches? You'd think, but it really appears that HTC has ignored the Flyer.
Try not being updated since launch.... screw it. Above post is most believable, Honeycomb when Jetstream/Skyrocket/Puccini launches.
We should bother the sh%t outta them about it. Seems to works.

LOL XD, I will call them.
Same here, paid in full for the 32gb 3g tablet on day one to use it for my work (illustration/concept design) because of the n-trig digitizer and form factor... Now 4 months later, i only use it for some dumb web browsing, mail checkin and occasionnal movie watchin, stuff that i could perfectly perform on my phone... The scribe sdk (recently released) seems to be 3.x specific from what i understand... AND NOW I'M MAD AS HELL, FED UP OF WAITING. Feel cheated and insulted by the total lack of communication. Should have wait and go for the upcoming Lenovo Thinkpad tablet with nvidia cpu, full size host usb, fullsize sdcard reader and honeycomb out of the box...
I just wish htc would communicate
If somebody know who to hit (that would matter), i'm down for some good old fashion mass emailing, or any action that would get em to give us a goddamn answer

With all respect, how did you plan to use your Flyer? For which kind of work? Why do you think the current software is incapable? It would be good if you can share with us.
If you think that you can not use efficiently the current Flyer for your work I am afraid that you will still be disappointed when the Honeycomb comes. IMHO, the Honeycomb will not bring significant changes in the Flyer's productivity.
BTW, Lenovo Thinkpad is 10" tablet which is in a complete different category. And Chinese Lenovo quality in general is worse than HTC's (I own an Lenovo T serie laptop, It's bad). I think HTC Puccini will be better than the Lenovo Tablet.
I 100% agree!! 100%.
It's not that HC will solve all of our issues or bring in Earth shattering functionality. That's not the point nor my immediate concern.
It's the complete lack of communication and the complete lack of backing.
HTC marketed scribe, where are the new apps supporting it? Where is the communication letting users know that supporting apps are coming?
HTC promised honeycomb "shortly after launch", where is it? Where's the communication?
Heck, where are the accessories?
If HTC is going to position themselves as a company that innovates on top of Android, then they have to do better than this...
My recommendation to you guys is to annoy the heck out of them on twitter and on their facebook page... I try to post to them every now and then just to be a pain in the ass

Sorta have to agree here. After playing with Honeycomb tablets in the stores, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about. Gingerbread + Sense makes the Flyer a wonderful tablet, IMHO.
Yeah, I'd like to see more pen aware apps. But I suspect it's only a matter of time before they start showing up (especially once other manufacturers adopt N-trig pen technology). And even if they don't, the ability to jot down notes is still worth the price of admission, IMHO.

I agree here also. All the current HC tablets are laggy. HC has a few cool features, and looks nice. But the eye candy comes at the expense of performance. And none of the HC features missing from Gingerbread are real deal breakers. HTC is probably trying to figure out how to incorporate Sense without making HC even more laggy. Compared to current HC tablets, the Flyer GB experience is smoother and faster in most respects.

u may be right, maybe i'm trippin, but i know for sure that Autodesk Sketchbook pro for honeycomb is supposed to support the scribe/n-trig digitizers, so for now unfortunately it feels like this HC update is my best chance to be able to use the flyer as a digital sketchbook. I also keep an anxious eye on that Fresco thread in the meantime, and i sure hope the somebody can make this happen Gingerbread flavor... nobody likes a laggy tablet
for info, i plan to use it to do my preliminary sketches and color studies on the go. The note app combined with evernote may be great for note taking and sketching basic ideas, but misses alot of basic features to call it a painting app (canvas size, simple color mixing/picking, etc...)
i agree about the lenovo feeling pretty cheap compared to htc, but i really like the features, and it should run Sketchbook pro (for instance) with pen pressure out of the box... but i sure like the flyer form factor... i'm just reallyreallyreally frustrated right now...
Anybody knows when pretends HTC offer the Puccini?
September? October? November? Christmast?
I can try wait until Christmast... Not sure...
Depends on the roms...
And of course, i luv this tablet is perfect 4 me

Well, one thing is sure... Anyone of us that have performed the s-off method will not be able to upgrade anyhow! Unless guys here find a way to conform the HTC OTA protocol or HTC add geek allowance into their updates with a warning!
To be honest, I'm with others on here, I've tried HC, and unless HTC have given an even better Sense cover to it, it does not give me any thoughts of upgrade... They still have not fixed PPTP VPN for goodness sake....!
what is actually honeycomb.....
Honeycomb is a new version of Android (3.0) specifically made for tablets. As of now it is laggy, and not fit to run on the Flyer. ICS, is the version after Honeycomb which is to release this fall, and is one OS that runs on both tabs and phones.
Hi,
why isn´t there a rom with android 3.2?
Best regards

They have. You can see HTC's UI customizations on the Puccini screenshots.
I received this response yesterday when pushing the issue
@htc: @TheNewDorkTimes The software is in development and we'll post here upon its release. Thank you for asking.” #flyer #honeycomb
again vague....companies like Motorola and HTC are screwing customers with false claims of soon to be released features and updates. This, "sell now and make promises philosophy", is pissing a lot of people off. People take the chance of purchasing the product in good faith expecting they will see what was promised soon. HTC can make great products but I for one will never purchase a product that promises features or capabilities in the near future. I will simply wait for something better or go with a reputable company that actually keeps it word.
Samsung has just released the Galaxy Note.
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/41837/samsung-galaxy-note-ifa-tablet-phone
5.5in screen is a bit small as a tablet, large as a smartphone. I am also no fan of SS's AMOLED and build quality.
But the integrated pen capability in software is amazing (due to the SSg's video). Wonder whether we will have something like that or can get something from that on our Flyers someday.
This might be a stupid question and probably premature right now. I know that the Flyer and the Galaxy Note are completely different devices (CPU, screen, ...). Assuming that SS uses the same n-trig technology in their Note, theoretically is there any chance that we can get Note ROM running on the Flyer?
Tell myself being optimistic, I have just had my Flyer for a month. I like it very much. Hope that amazing and hardworking XDA developers will bring us a lot of extra fun in the future.
Cheers.
Edit: the Note uses Wacom technology due to Cnet.
I really like the way this samsung tablet handles pen integration. After owning my View for a bit now I'm kinda disappointed with it. The pen integration is weak and the note apps is good, not great.
I'll definitely check out this samsung tab when it comes out.
It's nice but i doubt if it can defeat my Phatpad on my old WM05 device.
I hope the application provide option to resize the Page, very annoying if you have you stuck on the screen size when you have a lot of thing to draw.

I forgot about their hints at a Honeycomb update, and hopefully they are keeping a close eye on what Samsung has done.
This is getting interesting. It'd be cool if the Samsung Tabs had pen support too, and I'd even consider one since I loved my OG Galaxy Tab ... But I am something of an HTC fan. Hmmmm ...
Samsung galaxy note has no n-trig digitizer. It just passive capacitive digitizer. You can just look from the photos and videos that the big line width of the character and only two words per line, telling us that it is only passive technology.

How about a port of Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet's pen integration? Lenovo uses the same N-trig technology just like HTC Flyer. I really like how it works with Sketchbook Pro pressure sensitive option, and allows the pen to navigate around like using your finger.
I have just about given up on HTC to give me a tablet I have always wanted.

Amazing, that's a real update. Your comment makes my day, Paul. I am looking forward to the reviews of your leaked Flyer Honeycomb rom. Thanks a lot for sharing.
@d2ey: I still keep my Xperia X1 running WM6.5. Stylus was great in WM.
@iwansuryo: Yes, SS Note does not use ntrig. CNET said that it uses wacom (0'20": http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20100730-264/samsung-galaxy-note-hands-on/). The pen seems quite precise.

Sketchbook works on the Jetstream (see the video) so it should work with the Flyer too. I hope that pressure sensitivity will work. since the sketchbook can recognize pressure sensitivity of the Thinkpad pen, very probable that it should behave the same with the Flyer pen.
I'm really interested into the flyer, what features do you miss on this tablet? I would use it for the university and I'm doubting between the trio flyer-jetstream-thinkpad
Can anyone comment on this. It seems the HTC Flyer is now down to $299 and it is has way more features than the nook tablet. Two cameras, 3g, bluetooth etc. and only $50 more. Now it is heavier and thicker but what do you all think.
Unless your going to get rid of the stock rom because it is soooo sluggish and you hate sense, I would get a nnook. But if you loveee sense, go for the flyer.

I bought a $20 capacitive pen from Radio Shack and let me tell you I am really impressed with how well that works on my Evo 3D. I think it depends on how good the touch sensor is though, I tried it on a hero and a optimus too. those two didn't work as well, but also they aren't as responsive to my fingers either (typing on the hero sucks).
I think the biggest downside to the Flyer is the single core. It may be a smoking 1.5ghz. A dual core is a whole different ballgame, especially once the nook can be over clocked.
If the nook tab support is anything like the nook color support I would got NT, the flyer will have lil to no support soon enough imo
Well, Flyer doesn't have a dualcore processor, it's heavier than NK and I believe the screen is not IPS, but regular LCD?
Although it does have stuff like GPS, Camera and 3G.
I, for one, don't care about that at all. I ain't gonna be taking pictures with it, ever. GPS? What for? 3G - could be handy, but with US data costs - you won't be using it ever, you'll sit on WiFi.
+ Sense is sluggish, and my NK is freaking fast.
I've been looking at the HTC flyer, when the HC rom is released (appears imminent, a release candidate has leaked), I will buy one. Selling point for me is the real digitized pen, but it is not fully supported in the stock GB rom - limited to certain apps and markup only. HC removes the limitation and it works in all programs. You can root and load the HC release candidate now, but it's a lot more involved than on the NC which is why I'm waiting for the official HC rom.
My advice after looking closely at it would be to go with whichever has more features you'll actually use. Keep in mind the NT hasn't achieved root (yet), but has decent functionality stock. If you won't use any of the Flyer features, why spend the extra money?
I'm not complaining, but what's with the random level of interest in development for the flyer? Seems like over the last few days a lot of interest has arisen.
Not complaining and I'll be the first to throw some help if I can in testing or even contributing code since I do have some java experience and learning some c++.
I'd love to see sense ics with pen functions.

I don't think that it's random. The interest has gone up pretty dramatically over the past three months. The amount of developer interest seems pretty healthy right now.
I think that the Flyer did not sell well at first. Then there were some blow out sales. It is now in a lot more hands. Also, HTC leaked Honeycomb and now the source is out. This makes it easier for developers.
that makes a lot of sense. Hopefully it maintains interest levels.
It's definitely not random. Like lawguy said, for the Flyer, I think most of the increased attention has to do with the leaks and official releases of Honeycomb. Finally having the official tablet version of Android released has really increased the interest. A lot of the interest in the forum is also for the Evo View. Not only did it also receive Honeycomb, but it was sold at incredibly low prices in several sales last month. Overall, there's just a lot more interest in both tablets now due to Honeycomb and lower prices.
I was interested in the evo view because while I did get my nook tablet for dev purposes and for free (meaning I can't return it and score 250$), it didn't fit my needs so I bought the evo view with donations and noticed development is kind of "meh" on it so, I started working on it. Is that a problem? ;D
I'm glad to see development for the Flyer & View (hope to see more View development) since I chose to get the Evo View over the Nook Tablet, Samsung 7Plus or 8.9 tablets. Its a good size and who knows I might actually use that pen.
I really like my Gingerbread version of the flyer over the Honeycomb. I got it to read and the screen size is perfect thats why I like Gingerbread. The tablet itself could be lighter and thinner but not too bad. Sub £300 was a more agreeable price for it.
I'm glad other people like it too.

Five months on from buying this machine, I am still majorly impressed and excited by it. I don't think there is a better 7 inch device out there for user experience. I have spent hours checking out other tablets - particularly Samsung 7.7, 7 plus (owned), Sony S (own) and IPad and I always come back to this beast.
Was hesitant to switch to Honeycomb, but now, no regrets. Minimal / no freezes, great display, very user friendly keyboard and editing, unrivalled animation, fast, top design (consider the placement of volume to power buttons on this, compared to samsung's awkward button positioning) and great sound. Forgot to mention, the price is now irresistible. The only issue is the damn battery.
For me, the Flyer is a hit, big time. Interested to know what other long term users think...

I absolutely loooooove my flyer . I got the best buy wifi version when it first came out. And even though i may have over-payed for it i still love it. Really the n-trig feature is what set this apart from all of the other tablets. Without this feature i really couldn't justify this purchase to my wife (she figured it was just another gadget that i wanted). Then after i got it my wife fell in love with the functionality of it and got one herself. Then after that i had at least ten to fifteen coworkers and friends who purchased the flyer/view (even converted some from the dreaded Ipad). However, only one of them actually makes use of XDA and i highly doubt any of them makes use of or cherishes their tablet as much as i do). I know there are those that don't prefer honeycomb but when I switched to it (many thanks to Globatron) to me it opened up even that much more functionality of the tablet (I don't really play games on it). i I also like the current development that has been going on (really looking forward to ICS). Even though I continue to research the upcoming tablets (after all I am still a gadget guy) i don't see myself replacing my flyer any time soon. The only thing I may be interested in is the Galaxy Note due to it being a phone and only as a supplement to my flyer not as a replacement (i really don't want anything over the seven inch form factor). So to summarize as far as i am concern and for my purposes NOTHING BEATS THE FLYER.
If you can buy something like this and still love it five months on then it really says something, prices are going down so quick and devices getting faster/smaller.
Personally I bought mine when the UK price went down to £230, half-price, and I still love it, would be great if it were thinner & therefore lighter - I'll keep it for the next 18 months and then swap out. In this world today keeping such a gadget for about 2 years is a major success.
Versus an ipad2, ignoring cost, do I still think the Flyer is the better choice? The Flyer wins because of the pen - for me both devices are great for movies and games, but when it comes to making quick sketches in meetings Flyer wins hands-down, those "capacitive pens" I see people using with the ipad are a complete joke.
I am happy with my flyer, but maybe not so much with htc. 6 months into having the device I still enjoy it and have avoided any other device purchases since. htc and their failure to market/support the device would probably prevent me from ever buying one of their devices again. If I had paid full price for my flyer I probably would be pissed.
Flyer
I guess I didn't pay full price either, that's probably why I think this is such a great bargain for all that it does. I cannot believe I forgot to mention how good the pen was! I have the Galaxy Note too. However, for annotation and document highlighting, I only use the flyer. I agree though, that HTC could pull their finger out in terms of support for what is still a relatively new device.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using xda premium
I just bought a Transformer TF300, so that means I'll probably be using my Flyer a bit less when I'm at home. But the Flyer goes with me everywhere, so she'll still see lots of love (at work, for instance).
At any rate, after 9 months of ownership I still think it's a fabulous device, and am still very impressed with the build quality. No regrets and no immediate plans to upgrade to a newer, faster 7" tablet. Yeah, the day will come, but I'm on no hurry.
i've had it since january, and i still love it. use it almost daily, get great battery life out of it, and i love using the pen to take notes instead of misplacing a bunch of little sticky notes!
A few months ago I sold a 7" 64GB Playbook (for a profit) and bought a used 32GB 3G Flyer.
My personal experience is that the Playbook is very good for watching movies. Linking the Playbook to an TV with an HDMI port was also straight forward (just plug it in) so a great media device.
However, I needed a device that had 3G and turn by turn navigation. The Playbook did not provide either of these so I bought the Flyer.
I then found out the the GPS signal on the Flyer looses lock and it cannot find my bluetooth GPS module. Therefore, it does not fulfill one of my principle requirement. Also getting the Flyer to display a movie on a TV is a real pain compared to the Playbook. So for displaying to a TV, the Playbook is better.
The pen on the Flyer is a huge hit with my young daughter. It will keep her happy for hours on a long trip.
So my conclusion
I like the Flyer, it is well made, has a good screen and a good size. Overall I prefer it to the Playbook.
But it is not perfect.
Had mine for about 8 months now or so. Generally very happy with it.
Certainly 7" is the size for me. 10" is a housebound form factor as far as I'm concerned, watching people trying to watch their iPad while standing on the tube or train is amusing.
That said, I thought Sense for Honeycomb was poor. I went back to Gingerbread, tho I noticed that there are several ICS ports around so I may try one of those.
I also feel like the scene is moving so fast that devices generally have really short lifespans at the moment, in terms of official and community support. We might see 2 more Android versions by the time the device starts getting out of date in terms of tech - I doubt they're gonna come to the Flyer, which means apps and services might not be available for an otherwise viable device.
All in all tho, well worth the investment.
I think I would of gotten the galaxy tab 7.0 plus if i had to do it again. I wanted a honeycomb tablet for around $200 to $300 and i saw the flyer had good specs and honeycomb and went for it. Didn't realize how much the honeycomb update ruins the thing. Now I'm back on gingerbread and while it runs alot better, gingerbread just isn't meant for tablets.

I've had mine 10 days shy of a year (purchased May 26, 2011)
The main problem i see is with software support. HTC really dropped the ball by releasing a beta version of HC as the official update. I call it beta due to the gps bug...
If I had to do it over again, I'd have a Samsung or acer 7" tab instead. ICS isn't necessary, just something that works as intended.
|-|-|
That's kinda my thoughts. If hc worked fine I'd be happy with it but it doesn't. It's like taking an old pc and putting vista on it
People say it's just business and I understand not giving us ics because of cost but leaving our tabs in the shape they are is just unacceptable. No reason why they can't just patch honeycomb imo. Personally they better just stay out of the tablet market from now on because I can't speak for everyone but I wouldn't buy another htc tablet!

In the 7 inch market,,the flyer definitely rocks! I had been researching various tablets prior to the flyer's release and had all ready decided it was the one I wanted.
I had been a fan of HTC products for awhile. Their devices are solid and built to last. After owning a flyer for over a year it still works and feels like new. Nothing rattles or is loose in any way.
The processor isn't the fastest but still works great. For me the major selling points where the large capacity battery (4000 mAh) and the scribe pen.
My line of work invloves a lot of handwritten notes and sketches. Nothing even comes close to the flyer.
In addition the size of the flyer is extremely portable and can go with me anywhere. I wish HTC had better support of their tablets, that's my only gripe. Fortunately developers on xda will always find a way.

Overriding theme seems to be that this is a fantastic tablet, with good durability. However, HTC support (or lack of it) leaves a bitter taste

This is my feelings. Like the product but the company appears to not have a clue
That's really my thoughts. It's an excellent tablet and honestly its perfect on gingerbread, but to get the extra features honeycomb brings your sacrificing usability and stability. HTC left it in a bad place and wants to pretend it never existed. And now they are banking their whole future on the one series, and already hearing things about it like screwed up multitasking, battery life issues etc. And beats audio... Who cares really? My phone has it and its alot of money spent for an autotuned equalizer setting that only works with wired headphones, which does me no good anyway because I'm using a stereo bluetooth headset. HTC is clueless. They can yield good quality products but they can't support them to save their lives. And the flyer was purely a victim to bad marketing.

I love it . I have several tablets and this View works great for me. I use the pen and lecture notes all day long and have the sprint $20 plan when I an not near wifi. I also use google voice so I can have the tablet be a phone too which works great on the plane too.
I can't imagine what features I would want that I don't have with the View.
I am excited about the windows 8 tablets but until then I am good to go. I actually bought two Views...one for backup.

I think HTC would respond better for a GPS fix in honeycomb rather than everyone begging for ICS because that just won't happen from HTC.
