Anyone have any luck with printing to a non-HP networked printer using your Touchpad? I have a Brother HL-2170W (because it was dirt cheap and effective), which supports PCL6, but my Touchpad cannot see it.
I read over at the Precentral forums of jhoff80 finding a config file and trying to turn the non-HP filter off with no luck.
Ref: http://forums.precentral.net/3053770-post62.html
Just wondering if someone here had already figured out a way around this.
Thanks.
I spoke with HP tech support. They said it only wifi prints to HP printers. Even with inputting the printer IP address it still did not find it. Silly limitation IMO as my 2 HP laptops print to this canon wifi printer.
Again, another reason to be excited for an operating system modification, ie Android
The printing support is currently only for the newest HP printers. Our only hope for expansion will be from homebrew developers to add support for other printers.
Yep, ****ing stupid. I have the same printer as the OP and two Touchpads and two HP laptops. Guess which ones have no issues printing?

Not so sure about only "newest" HP printers. With my touchpad, I am able to manually add and print to a 7 year old HP LaserJet 4200. Not sure if it would autodetect as my Wifi and printer are on different vlans, I have a router policy allowing them to communicate. According to what I've read, as long as it is an HP printer supporting PCL6 it should work. Also, snmp must be enabled on printer. Found this out attempting to print to an HP CP1525nw.
I am not really sure about newest HP printer. I think you should talk to your HP customer care. Also, snmp must be enabled on the printer as well.
I have a WiFi printer too, its an hp, but the only way I can print is with cloud print from the market. It was free and works great!

Anyone out there using a portable (mobile) wireless printer? I bought the best rated one from HP (h470) which is awesome with my Vibrant but printing PDFs sucks. It cuts off the top of the pdf. Anyone know how to import the wireless profiles? Or how to fix this issue.... perhaps another app? Oh i use PrinterShare (newest paid version). Thanks
Hello All,
So far..my biggest concern with the android operating system is the lack of support for being able to print. I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct forum or not, but if I'm not..I'm sure the moderators will move it to the proper one. I have a android tablet, that I surely wish I could utilize the usb 2.0 port for my printing needs. At the present time..the only way that I can print is by using a program called PrinterShare, it utilizes available printers on my network. I hope SOMEDAY...this might be corrected.
Thanks,
David

Right now it's more about what printer you buy. Epson has fairly good support for Android devices with their new app. Mixing printers and mobile devices is still in it's fledgling stages, I expect that next year we'll start seeing "android" compatible as a common marketing term for most printers.
Unfortunately most printer manufacturers would rather make consumers buy a new printer rather than create compatible drivers for legacy devices.
Hi your reply really makes sense ....I guess for now I'll just have to be patient .
Thanks
David

Citrix has an Android Receiver app that allows you to connect to a Citrix virtual machine. I have used it to connect to my Citrix hosted Win 7 virtual worstation at work and it's fantastic. Now, I wouldn't say that I'd want to use it all the time. But I'm a system adminstrator and I'm on call 24 hours a day once every four weeks, and in a pinch, and paired with a iGo folding bluetooth keyboard and a 4G tethering phone it allows me to address a crisis at work from practically anywhere.
That OnLive Win 7 desktop is probably going to present a similar experience, and depending on your needs you might find it quite useful.
The way I see it, the concept is exciting and geeky, but not very useful, especially on Flyer.
Ability to connect to your own PC is a lot more useful, but less exciting (been done several years ago).
I downloaded it for my Ipad. I find it utterly craptastic. I could not do anything with it but Office. I already have this from work and my home computers but with much more functionality. It's a little better then RDP on a good connection but nothing to write home about. I should pull my Ipad sim from my laptop and try it with 3G maybe their secret sauce works well over cell networks. At th time, I was just not impressed to go through the effort of getting my laptop and pulling the sim. Its a PITA to put the micro and adapter back in the laptop.
anyone got a copy of this working? i can't get it from the market says it's not compatible with my flyer.. thats a load of crap considering i have the onlive player on my tab already wtf it says htc jetstream is in working devices list .. means we should be able to too! even if we only have one core damnit
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.p5sys.android.jump
Jump desktop is only 99 cents and works brilliantly on the flyer.
In general I find the onlive service gimmicky at best... It's over priced compared to console gaming with interior graphics and while cheaper than PC gaming it offers none of the benefits. I would not bother with anything they release for the most part.. There are better solutions for anything you would want to do. The service works better than I thought it would, which means it isn'ta key logger and it works to some degree... Bit still but worth it.
Hi guys and girls.
I have just brought a transformer prime and have to say it is awesome, but I have one question, as an it consultant i do a lot of work remotely something I am currently doing using a laptop with windows rdp.
Can anyone recommend a solid fast rdp client for my droid so I can finally kick the windows laptop into touch.
I would prefer a free one but dont mind paying and the only criteria is that it can connect to VNC\RDP connections with Network Level Authentication(NLA) and actually be useable to control windows and linux boxes.
Thanks in Advance
I have been using splashtop and it runs great, all of the hardware that i have tried out so far has worked like the touchpad. it also lets you log in with your google account so you dont have to mess with port forwarding and dynamic dns, it just finds it automatically. its pretty cheap too from what i remember. I use it almost daily. in fact i believe the splashtop server is available directly from ASUS's site.
i believe it does do RDP but if you are looking for a strictly RDP client then i think remote desktop client by xtralogic might suit you better i believe it runs about $15. not sure on the linux boxes for either client tho.
maybe someone else might know of a good free one or something that might work a little better. usually most of them have a free version or a 15-30 day trial.

Thanks will give them a go any other ideas people
In my experience, Xtralogic is the best! I paid full price for it and it's damn worth it
Best mouse + keyboard integration I've seen or imagined.
Of course if you want to do gaming instead of office work, Splashtop THD has you covered.

My money is on Jump Desktop. Tried them all and this is the best. VNC and RDP. Full mouse support incl. right click and scroll wheel. Works great with the dock keyboard.

I intend to install Ubuntu on my phone and then use a docking station at work to run as a PC.
There are two issues I need some advice on from the good people at xda...
1) I've tried two different USB3 universal docks with an Ubuntu laptop but could not get the attached monitor (via displaylink) to work with Ubuntu 13.04. Ethernet, and USB devices (keyboard, mouse and flash key) work fine.
Anyone found a usb dock that works with Ubuntu 13.04 pre-release?
I tried these
Toshiba dynadock
http://us.toshiba.com/accessory/PA3927U-1PRP
Targus
http://www.targus.com/us/productdet...evel1=products&cp=&bannertxt=Docking Stations
2) If I can find a laptop dock that works with Ubuntu 13.04, I then want to push my luck a little further. What I am searching for is a suitable universal dock that WILL CHARGE a docked Ubuntu phone (connected via a USB OTG cable). The dock would need to be of the USB 3 variety so it can be used by laptop owners also. All of the universal USB laptop docks do not seem to charge the docked device (since they expect a laptop not a smartphone/tablet).
Some rough motivators for a business
Rough costs in Australia for us would be
Current User
Desktop User : Desktop plus smartphone (nexus) = $700 + $400 = $1100
Laptop user : Ultrabook plus smartphone = $1500 + $400 = $1900
Future User
Ubuntu phone plus docking station = $400 + $200 (say) = $600
Some of this saving, I would expect to go into Canonical support agreement & unlimited phone plans
Cheers,
Tony
I don't really understand what you're trying to say here. Assuming you're talking about Ubuntu for Android, the only way to get this to work as soon as the Ubuntu for mobile image is out, is by porting it to a Motorola smartphone that supports Motorola's dock like the one's Canonical uses in their. Or you could get a smartphone that has HDMI.
Thanks for the response
Actually, it's not the Ubuntu for Android I am referring to but the Ubuntu OS which is dockable as a full PC.
I have had no luck locating a USB universal dock with which the latest Ubuntu supports the inbuilt displaylink video adapter. Also, none of the docks seem to provide charging over USB to the host device, only the peripherals.

It's not even out yet so it's not a good idea to get a head start.
You're probably correct.
I'm assuming that the OS that boots on the phone is a full Ubuntu 13.04 kernel.
On that basis, I've been testing universal docks with my laptop running Raring Ringtail prereleases.
I expected they'd just work but so far not.
Thanks for your replies.

And the Nexus 7 has been a useful test also of the Canonical image for 13.04.
Using a USB OTG cable, I could see that the behaviour was consistent with that of a laptop on the universal dock. Ethernet and USB ports were passed through to the nexus 7 and operated as expected. The displaylink video support seems to be lacking at present.

I can completely see the merrit of your research, and I think you're going down the right path. I too will be looking at implimenting something similar at work, as it just makes sense! I think you are correct - working to find a dock that works with 13.04 on desktop/tablet will be of benefit for docking Ubuntu for Phones, especially the Nex7 as it's running ARM processor. I'll do some research time permitting myself, see if I can get anything working. I only have a targus USB 2.0 dock to play with currently though.
Some more information on this.
Apparently any USB3 docking stations consisting of the Displaylink DL-3000 series adapters DO NOT SUPPORT linux.
http://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1748
It seems like the best bet is to plug a DL-195 series adapter into the USB hub of a DL-3000 based docking station and then your Ubuntu superphone should detect that.
http://displaylink.com/shop/adapters
This still needs to be confirmed by someone with access to a DL-195 Displaylink adapter.
Very disappointing.
get the minihdmi to hdmi adapter that has the extra hole for the power. I use that connected to my dock with bluetooth keyboard/mouse plugged into the TV running the ubunut via chroot.
Have you got a link to the one you purchased?

I think an MHL to HDMI adapter should do the trick. I picked one up off from Amazon for about $3. We'll see how it does when the Ubuntu Phone OS image is released for the Galaxy Nexus.
My BT keyboard, BT mouse and Samsung HDTV are just begging for some Ubuntu from my phone .

Mhl to hdmi. My fault.
I picked it up from monoprice. I think they only had two different ones.
