Hi all,
I installed a kernel on my phone so that I was able to Root my device.
My phone was booting up and I saw the yellow explenation mark underneath the the Samsung Galaxy S II logo.
There's only one issue, my phone won't start, it freezes at the boot logo and won't do a thing :/
How can I fix this?
It freezes or is it in a bootloop?
If you got into bootloop, check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499

It won't enter in Recovery mode,
When i hold down home, power, and volume UP the bootup-logo (Samsung galaxy S II ''With Explenation mark) shows up, than dissapears for 1 second than shows itself again and it's just freezes like it did before.
Now I never heard about a Boot Loop but this looks very disturbing.
I need some help with this.
Jeezus Christ, you joined today and already posted in the wrong section, didn't bother to read or search. So on that note I HOPE your device is Bricked just to serve you a purpose of reading before hand.
However since you are unable to read or search, we will treat you like a child. Your device is not bricked. Turn it off, take out battery, unplug from computer. Put back in battery and press volume DOWN, power and home until you get into download mode. Then plug into computer, start odin and either reflash the kernel in PDA box, or flash a stock rom.
Now this is been covered numerous times, so I will ask again to read next time before you post a question that has been answered 10000x times over.
Also if you would have read anything at all, you would know that you will get the yellow triangle when flashing any kernel but a stock on. There is a way to get rid of it, but that requires searching and reading. Something you know nothing about.

At first I would like for you to tone it down a little bit, I searched down the whole Internet, I just didn't now under what name I had to search.
Since I don't know the name of this particular issue, I couldn't find it on this website nor on the Internet (wich is obvious). So I started a treath to release my question.
Before claiming and occusing me of something, aks me the questions first.
You're judging a book by it's cover and your arrogance blind you.
But i'm not here to occuse people of something or giving them names etc, I'm here for some serious bussines.
Now...
I saw your answer (possible solution) and I wan't to thank you for this, I will give this a try and keep this treath updated.

I had the same problem few days ago.
For me the logo showed up, disappered, showed up again and than it went in recovery. Hold those 3 buttons until phone goes in recovery mod, don't stop holding them.

Yes wishing loss, due to lack of reading. If you notice my reply I did offer help. Just had to ensure he posts in the correct section next time. And as for your phrase you said. Never heard it.
It's called constructive criticism. Bet me he will search before making another post. Otherwise I will be lurking in the darkness.
Oh and don't like my reply? Don't really care.

You are wrong... step 2 says: Hold down home, power, and volume UP. This will enter recovery mode. If you are using CF-Root, you'll get CWM recovery. If not, you get stock recovery. It doesn't matter which appears.
As I said, you should enter recovery

No it won't go in Recovery mode unfortunately.
I think my phone is bricked as I noticed the ''Phone...!...Computer'' logo when I tried to start it up.
Can happen, now It's just the challenge to find the solution.
Perhaps I should go to the store and tell them if they can help recover it.
If you got any suggestion what I should do it would be wel used.
In the mean time I will earch on the Internet and the forums how to unbrick the phone by myself.
Note - I still can enter Download Mode.

Did you have a custom rom installed before you ended like this?
Did you even try DOWNLOAD MODE? You dont not need recovery. You need download to flash the kernel again or a stock rom.
VOLUME DOWN, HOME, POWER until you see the "downloading, do not turn off"
Then connect to odin and reflash the kernel in PDA

No,
It all happened after I installed a costum-kernel (The one that I need in order to root my phone) I followed the instuructions of a Youtube webpage.
I did root my phone before to try it out and it worked smoothly.
After I realised that I could so much once a SuperUser i wan't it to Root my phone again but it all went wrong when my phone was rebooting after I installed the costum-kernel.
I went into Download mode, I tried to install the latest firmware on my phone, yet it failed to do so, so i plugged out my phone, shut it off, turned it on and all of a sudden I saw the *Phone...!...Computer* logo wich (if i am correct) stands for a (Soft)brick.
I re-installed the costum-kernel and the Brick-Logo isn't visible anymore, but I'm back at the previous problem, The Samsung Boot Logo with Explenation Mark freeze issue.
Once I entered Download mode I noticed that Costum Binary Download is set to (Count 5).
I need a good tutorial how to fix this, I'm quite new with the Android (half a week)
Help is well appreciated.

so she bought a new phone without even powering it on.. she came to my house and later said it was stuck on a boot up image that read team whiskey, im no phone buff so i have no idea what going on. i put out a help post on craigslist and i was referred here for help..
so please let me know whats going on with this
BTW its a samsung vibrant
Awesome. At least she made the right choice in purchasing the phone from someone who used the right ROM.
What you're going to need to do is either get the phone into Recovery Mode or ODIN back to stock.
I'm guessing you will need to ODIN back to stock as it's stuck on the boot screen. Do a search in the Development forum and look for the latest ODIN package where it includes the ODIN program and the necessary files to bring the phone back to stock (.tar, .pit, etc.)
There are walkthroughs on how to run the program as well.
If it says Team Whiskey then it probably has the newest Bionix ROM. One of the best to have on it. If it is the first boot after the cache is cleared it can take 10 minutes for it's first boot to rebuild the cache. If it is the first boot after the ROM was flashed you should wait a full ten minutes for the ROM to complete its initial setup and then reboot it. Since you don't know I would wait anyhow, it can not hurt. DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE DURING THESE INITIAL TEN MINUTES OR IT WILL BE BUGGY.

However, if its stuck at boot as the OP stated, then Odin to stock is probably going to be his best bet. The third link that was posted by T313C0mun1s7 is the place to start.
You have some work to do OP, you're best bet is to Odin back to stock, and you will find the resources needed in the Vibrant Bible linked above. Good luck.
Bottom line Franky is this:
It's not un-fixable. The posters here are correct in that if you can see the logo you're seeing, then it's more than likely fully recoverable and can be a great phone. The post here that has provided you links is a very good one. Best thing you can do is read all the "noob" guides/FAQ/bible threads that are stickied to the top of most of the categories in the Vibrant section. They contain a TON of useful info. If you can use a PC and have the correct USB cable, you can get it done.
And if you do get it back up and running, and she got a deal on it, she might not be so stupid after all!
A quick background for you on terms and what's what since you are not familar with the phone
The Vibrant was originally sold with a software operating system Android 2.1 The version of that system was JFD which, the letters are code for version and release date. So, when you read all the numbers/letters they are talking about newer versions... the latest and greatest.
I would 1st try turning on the phone and let it sit for 10-15 min and see if the previous person did not complete the installation process. If it goes to the home screen, then you are good to go. If not, then you will need to Odin back to stock.
If you can see a logo, the the phone will respond to software via Odin. Odin is a software you load on your desktop computer , it opens a menu that kinda looks like an custom excel sheet. In the upper left corner when you plug in the phone to connect to the desktop with Odin already open,it will say com 0 , com8 or something what it reads out is less important what is important is it recognizes the phone. From there the noob guide will explain everything else.
This is a super phone, especially because you can modify it so easily and it is REAL hard to permanently brick (permanently break). Read the bible and members S15274N noob guide......... his sticky in general is pretty complete and very easy to understand. If you get stuck come back to the forum and we will help you solve. Good luck
In the Noob guide it will have the drivers Odin and the other utilities you will need.
odin back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
How much did she pay for it? If it was like $500 +, then yea, that was really stupid but if she got it for under $150 because it was supposedly "broken", then she had unintentionally made a smart buy. The seller would've been the stupid one for not researching on how to revive their Vibrant.
Send me a PM and I'll be glad to help!!

apparently she had her brother try and repair it and now it wont even show the team whiskey logo. all it does is show the vibrant/samsung image then it shuts off and repeat over and over
if anyone here is near anaheim california i'd gladly appreciate any help from you
This phone is really resilient, and if you're still getting images on the screen, you can still fix it. The trick is to get it into download mode, which can be hit or miss, and may take several tries. There are different methods posted around the internet, but for mine, I hold the vol+ and vol- and then plug in the usb cable connected to the computer. If it goes into download mode, then you're home free. Once you Odin it back to stock, you can go anywhere from there.

you are really not giving a lot of details here...all you are saying you tried installing a rom and then it froze halfway..
Are you rooted firstly?
If you are have you flashed CF-root kernel?
How did you try to install the rom?
More info and then more people can help you out buddy..see if you can get into recovery and restart your phone.
well... if you've tried "every" (its not like there are a lot) button combination... then just go buy a jig from ebay and force it into download mode...

Nothing from what you said would help..
He obviously flashed it with Odin, and he said he's getting a yellow triangle with a computer behind it..
From what I understood, he could get into download mode.
So just boot into download mode and flash stock ROM. That should do it.

dont think its coincidence they are increasing after the american variants have been released. People need to check what model they have before flashing things.

its ok and same goes by my post as well buddy..we all been in his position one way or the other
1st - Your phone is not bricked if it show an image. Whatever image it is. The only real software way to brick your phone is to flash bad bootloader or stop a bootloader while they are being flashed. However, Bootloader are flashed first. So if your phone stoped half way, you should not have trouble too much.
Remove the battery from your phone for like a minute, then reboot your phone in download mode (vol- + home + power and when the phone light up, release power.) Then flash another rom from odin.
Also, what rom did you used ? If you flashed a rom for another phone, then you might have flashed bootloader for that phone on yours, which is bad. In this case you will surely need a JIG.
sorry im new to this whole rooting/flashing thing. i downloaded the lightning rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
i have never rooted or doneanthing to my s2 before. all i did was follow the instructions on the page and thought it would be all good? it froze about a quarter of the way there in odin so i just took my phone out.
I usually find from this state I can get back to bootloader or download states
push and hold vol+ and home then power for bootloader
push and hold vol- and home then power for download
sometimes the phone can seem to freeze a little or even die (this happened to me loads on the galaxy s and once already on the s2) and removing battery sim etc or attaching the charger can jog it
however as other have said a JIG is your friend if for no other reason that even if you recover without it, custom roms up the rom count which some twitchy carriers might invalidate your warranty for, the jig will reset this
you can get them from ebay for less than £3 delivered, or there are instructions on this site for making them yourself if you are so inclined.
simply search 'galaxy s2 jig' on ebay mine was delivered today from portugal as I am way too lazy to make one and only wanted a counter reset anyway
Hi, everyone, I've recently HARD BRICKED my Samsung Galaxy MODEL: T959V with T-mobile. First off, I got pattern locked on my phone, yea I know I'm an idiot, LOL. Next I totally forgot my gmail password so I could not log back into my phone. So then I next decided to flash back to stock with odin 1.7 and T959UVJFD. tar file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087. As a result, my phone would boot to the loading screen with the dashed circle and a battery display in the background and thus would not finish booting all the way. So I figured I would do more research and found that people would try flashing with the Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833024&page=49 and after flash back to stock. After I flashed with the Eugene rom this was when the phone completely died and would not turn on. I tried the take out the battery, holding down and up volume button and plugging into computer method but the computer would not detect it anymore. Now I don't know what to do. It won't turn on anymore and can't boot into download mode. Please help.. Thanks, and appreciate it.
I just got bricked too...Went to update my vibrant that was on eclair still...Try to update to froyo on Samsung Kies Mini...download went fine...then when finished...it wouldnt turn on....just ordered a JIG....should be here Tuesday...http://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-Don...73JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321751047&sr=8-1
and yes...my family on XDA...i tried every finger combination to try to get to download mode...Sitting outside waiting for ups as we speak...
You might need to look into a jtag, I wouldnt give up getting into download even if the screen is black. Some members have had sucess by pulling the battery, sim card and letting the vibrant settle for an hour or so. reset in odin and keep trying, your phone wont respond but odin may recognize it by the yellow com bubble.
im guessing u've tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
also read post #5 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352334
be sure u understand what he says: he's basically just pretending the screen doesnt work and holding the buttons for the amount of time it would take to enter download mode. even tho the screen never responds, odin will suddenly recognize the phone. u can tell when this happens cuz that box in odin turns yellow. then flash JFD like normal or whatever ur gonna do.
good luck
Thanks for replying everyone.
Sugartibbs : I've been working on this all day. Yea, I definitely can't get it to work on odin. It's not being recognized at all. where can i get a jtag?
crypkilla : Yea I definately tried those two things already. I've searched all over the forum. I think it's time to take it in..... LOL. Is there a difference between the two models T959UV vs. T959V, in terms of the stock rom I was originally suppose to use?
that's a bummer.
i havent had a completely unresponsive phone before, but ive thought ive been pretty screwed a few times and the only other thing i know is that ive read people say that they've tried the same thing a hundred times and on the hundred and first time it worked and that's been my experience.
be sure and post if u do get lucky and fix it.

You flashed wrong ROM and you're in wrong forum.
T-mobile Vibrant is T959
T-mobile Galaxy S 4G is T959V
T959UV is just a baseband not model number.

Yea I figured that I flashed the wrong rom after....so is there a way to fix it?

LOL i did the same thing ended up selling the phone
**Posted in the III sub forum instead of II, so my sincere apologies for that***
I'm in desperate need of help. Forgive My noobness, but as I said, I'm desperate. And I've searched and read for hours, but can't find anything that relates to my exact situation, or that will help me and I can't remember anything about the string of numbers to get my root, except that it wasn't listed ANYWHERE (I just updated to Ice Cream yesterday if that matters) I know it had an L and a 5 in it.
So how can I get it back to stock or root it? I've obviously done something wrong. I'm without any internet right now, so i'm totally relying on this phone. It's stuck at the Samsung Galaxy SII GT-1900 screen, won't come on, turn off, I can't do the volume up/down screen, Nothing.
I used an XDA YouTube vid to root, but it wont' let me post it here.
Also, later added that I did get it to go to a menu by pressing the up volume that I have never seen that would let me reboot the phone, or do a factory reset. When I tried to reboot, it went to a loading/waiting screen with a hat on it.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. I'm not totally technically challenged, but I'm no Bill Gates either.
You need to boot your phone up into Download Mode by turning it off (pull out the battery), then put the battery back in; connect one end of your USB charge cable into a laptop or desktop, hold vol up AND vol down, and then plug the usb cable into the phone. Then you need to use Odin to flash working firmware/software.
Thank you!! But--here is my problem and you may not know any more than I do---what is the working firmware? I think it is I need before the CC that I'm not sure what it is, correct? Again thank you for helping me.
Another appearant victim of galaxys2root.
First, you must verify that you have the SGS II - SGH-I777 model. If not, you're in the wrong forum.
I assume you are able to get into download mode as outlined above.
Go to this thread and flash straight stock UCKH7. Follow the directions. Post back here with success or failure of the flash.

Yes, I have a SGH-1777. I just saw II and posted in three, totally my mistake last night.
I just tried, and it said ''Low battery, can't access download mode'' in red at the top of the screen, so I'm assuming that I *can* access it.
I'm going to go get in the pool and try again when I get out, letting it charge for about an hour.
Thank you again. I'll let you know if I'm able to do this or not.
Why did you flash something i900 if you definitely have an i777? If you are able to fix this you need to do a lot more reading before you continue trying to do things to your phone.

I didn't flash something for an i900---I followed a step by step video posted by an XDA member for a S2 Galaxy 1777.
I figured out where I went wrong, I checked the auto reboot and F-Reset Time.
I was able to fix it, with help of reading the links posted here and lot of help from someone else. I do appreciate all the information posted here, I've learned a lot about my phone over the last few days just by reading.

I'm glad to hear that your phone is working, and that you have learned a lot.
With regard to what went wrong... checking auto reboot and F-reset time are normally recommended when flashing anything with Odin3. I'd be more inclined to believe that the problem was in the firmware that you flashed.
My phone is stuck in an endless bootloop. It gets to the Samsung logo, and then goes back to it after a few seconds. I am running the Eclipse ROM atm, and I can't boot into recovery either. It just hangs at the boot screen for the recovery, and reboots.

Problem found.....stuck button issue..(power)......g

Prepare the PC for a flash to stock via Odin...
Then push and hold volume down, and power...
Continue to hold until the device vibrates 3 times,(15 seconds) then release...after the third vibration....
You should now be in download mode..
Push the stock image to the device...
Then push CWM recovery again to the device via Odin...
Boot the device into recovery mode, and wipe all caches, dalvik included...and data included...
then you can reflash your backup, or a new rom....g

Uh oh.....
Okay...first things first..
Have you done a battery pull yet ? to turn off the device ?
If yes, and it boots itself back on, then you have a stuck power button..
If the device stays off, then try booting into recovery from the phone off state...g

Yes, I tried a battery pull. It boots itself back up when I put the battery in. The power button doesn't seem to be stuck though, it feels fine.

power button is stuck in the depressed position...(not good)
The device needs a button repair, unless you are feeling up to taking the device back cover off...
There are several threads on this subject, and searching is the best way to find them...
Stay in the general QA section for our device when searching, and i'll look around as well for the proper threads as reference...
It's a pretty simple fix, and we have some video assists on youtube as well i believe...
I'll post links here as i find them...g

Yep....
Been reading several threads, but no direct "how to" threads...
Also many threads on how to remove the inner cover for repair...
Unless you just want to haul it to a repair shop for a button fix.....but i'll bet it just stuck...(common issue on the note1...g
Edit: is it under any type of warranty ??

It is, but it's rooted with a custom ROM :/
Well....
thats a potential problem....if you get caught..
but if you take the phone apart yourself, warranty gone...
So you have two choices....
I would personally take the chance, and fix it myself, by a careful back cover removal. but if the device is broken, and not stuck, then you are worse off than when you started.
best choice, send it in....IMHO....g
