Left side of touchscreen faulty?.. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I posted this in general but maybe I should've posted it here so yeah...
So when I hold my finger still at the left side of the touchscreen (as far as I can), for example when dragging the youtube cursor thingy (then the left side would be the bottom..), it will start to jump around.. Or for example when swiping the homescreen to the left. If I hold my finger still at the edge of the touch screen it will also jump around.
And for some reason this isn't happening when charging (or connected to the pc)
Anyone else having this problem?
Edit: Something to note is that this is my second GSII having this problem. Although the first one I had was a really a lot worse.

Could be some moisture or high humidity affecting it! I also sometimes have TS problems, I then just clear the screen and make sure my fingers are dry enough. Just could be.
Regards.

Yeah I tried clearing it.. But as I said it is not happening when connected to AC.. So yeah.. It's mostly annoying when trying to select a specific time in a video.. It's nothing major but still, such an expensive phone shouldn't have such a problem imo.
I will return it tomorrow.. If I remain the only one I know of having this problem..
But just to be sure.. You don't have this specific problem?

Nope. I don't. And please do make sure that the problem is enough to send the device for RMA.
When you are charging the device it gets hot, so there is less moisture and humid on the screen. So again, clean your phone screen with a micro fiber cloth and dry your fingers too, then see again.
If it still remains, then your choice.
Regards.

It's as soon as I plug in the cable (tried holding my finger on the ts while plugging it in, and when I did, it immediately stopped). And yeah I really cleaned it thoroughly.. But.. Could it be the touchscreen protector?.. With my other phone it didn't make any difference when I took it of, so I really don't want to take it off if not necessary cause those things are 5 eu each :/

Hmm, a pricey protector, shouldn't be an issue. But still it could be the reason.

I think I'll just go to the store tomorrow and if they ask me to remove it, I will.

[Q] Menu button flashing issue

Hi to everyone in this forum. I've recently received as a present a new toshiba folio 100, but, since I'm experiencing an annoying menu button flashing, I've thought of it as a software problem so I upgraded the folio using the foliomod1.3c and applied the rotate patch and also the 1.3c fix patch. The menu still flash with no apparent logic. I've tried to kill all applications running and it's still there. It seem to come up and down at random. I ask to all in this forum: do you believe it's a hardware issue or is a software issue? Because if it's a hardware issue I'm going to try to have a new folio from toshiba. I'm overall very pleased with the work that Dexter made to make the folio an usable machine but this flashing is driving me crazy. I use the folio basically as a portable scientific pdf reader so I need to concentrate on what I read and this flashing is really annoying. I would like very much to thank you all in this forum in advance for all the suggestion/help you could provide.

I have a request that serve All those who suffer MENU crazy button .
Is it possible to prepare application you can setting ON/OFF the MENU button
Most of the time useless button.
sometimes button jump after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour
Usually I fix the problem by changing the settings with FolioButtons 1.1.
If you could add to FolioButtons on/off operation for menu Buttons was the best.
Hi teknoraver,
Can you add enabled/disabled menu button in foliobuttons application ?

I am pretty desperate about this issue, because none of the methods seem to help...
Right now the buttons work opposite- Menu button flashes mad and none of the other 3 responds...dont know how it happened
Just a thought- while the folio is booting up the menu button ALREADY flashes! I have zero understanding in there but isn't it a process that loads / starts early in the line?
I appreciate everyone's effort trying to solve this bug as it makes this handy tool a useless pile of crap.
I was wondering how many folio users are suffering of this crazy buttons madness.
Mine was crazy from the very beginning; I sent it back for repair and toshiba only did a firmware restore... Nothing changed at all!
It makes my folio almost unusable!
bye bye crazy buttons
After two weeks of testing and a complete breakdown of my folio100, I finally find the problem or just crazy buttons and freezing of the screen.
I drag a thickness in the screen in the bottom right corner of the screen to isolate the audio connector and it works better than a miracle again.
The only downside is that the screen comes out slightly from the slot but nothing really bad.
The thickness I put slightly too big or-1.4 mm I'll Demount next week to put a finer and I'll try to take pictures in passing.
Note however that the loss of waranty is innevitable.
Sorry for my bad english ;-)
I think it's a hardware issue and even a build quality issue.
If i hold my folio at the side of the buttons, i get the flashing buttons problem (even the foliobuttons app will not help), if i hold it at the other side, i've got no problems at all.
Do you have an animated background? Because I saw that some people had this issue with an animated background...
Hi Mshr73, nice first post indeed
Could you post some pictures of what you did?

I really don’t want to be too quick on this, but Dexter’s 1.4 seems to bring relief to this issue - for 2 days I have been running this mod the menu button stopped flashing!!
Any similar impressions on this?

No way pal, I guess I'm in the opposite situation. It still happens to me, and sometimes I think it even got worse... well, I can always look at crazy keys as a "special feature" that no other tablet will have!!!
I just tested without thickness under the screen, with foliomod 1.4 and after a few hours I again the problem of crazy buttons.

Well, I just finished dismantling e reassembling my Folio. Following your hint, I cut a piece of paper and put it between the audio connector and the back of the screen (yes, it was metal vs metal). I'll see whether it's gonna work or not. Crossing fingers for now.
Not that I'm so confident in leaving a piece of paper stuck right where the DC input is .
BTW, did you try with a smaller thickness? Even if this is the problem, I'm wondering whether a piece of paper would be enough or not.
thyself can someone. post pictures of before and after details?
we will be much appreciated
i didn't have the crazy buttons issue this far in 2 weeks, just my home butten needs to be pressed harder. I'm pretty sure it's hardware related, i read often that users experience it when changing from an warm room to a colder one, or in regions where its verry humid(some circuit closes maybe...). so Mshr73 is on the right way as far as i can tell.

Anyhow, it is so disturbing, that I was already considering to send the tablet back to Toshiba...

I'm looking forward to your pictures, too... because my trial simply didn't work.
I tried with both a single piece of paper and then with 2 pieces wrapped in tape. I put these spacers between the back of the display and DC/audio connector.
In both cases, the crazy keys phenomenon started to happen after 15-20 minutes of usage.
In most cases, it starts to show when I unlock the device. As soon as I unlock it, home and menu buttons light up with no apparent reason and go crazy for 10-30 seconds.
Then, I even tried to loosen just a little the screws (I read, somewhere in the forum, of a guy who said that he solved his crazy keys and screen lag problems this way). I mean, all screws are now locked but not too tight. Well, I have to say that I don't have any screen lag anymore (I even removed the piece of paper, from the battery area, which used to solve the issue before) but crazy keys still happen. I'm going slightly mad

I handed a piece of cardboard and the problem disappears.
I think that to raise the screen to solve them but I'm still not 100% sure.

[MAYBE FIX?] Home button gone bad

Hi,
Got my s2 pretty much as soon as they were released on o2 and it's been great until now, but the home button has just become 'rattly'. There's more movement and noise before the button engages, as if something has broken underneath it.
Anyone else experienced this?
Just hoping o2 will replace with a new phone, and not refurbished..
Edit:
May have fixed this - I pushed left and right sides of button with both thumbs reasonably firmly (but not hard), and the button seemed to click back into place..
Bought mine on the 5th of may, no noise/rattling here.
Spoke to o2 and they're happy to replace, but have no stock now..

Bit worrying that this isnt an isolated problem.
Would be interested to know how long it takes for it to develop for other people's phones?
It's worse for me on the left side of the button, same for you too?

I noticed this yesterday, too, on the right side. I've had the phone for 17 days.
I've updated the first post with what I think is a fix.
I have this rattling too, noticed it yesterday. Pressing it firmly fixes the issue for some 10-20 clicks - but then it's back again.
Same here.. Often the button clicks but there is no registration only when pressing it firmly it will exucte,
It just started on mine too it seems.
Home Botton issue..
I hate the home button, I like the buttons on the Samsung Captivate better.
I had a issue with my home button, after I put on an aftermarket screen protector. I tried to use water to help apply the protector, and it seemed to have gotten behind the button, causing it not to work after drying. After tearing apart the phone and getting behind the boards I didn't see a way to the button, it seems you have to separate the screen from the frame to get to the electronics behind the frame (most likely destroys the phone). I did notice double-sided sticky tape behind the frame, most likely industrial type.
Put the phone back together and got some Flux-Off that I had for cleaning circuit boards , applied it at the button just as the water got into it. Fixed my issue and the button is making good contact now.
All that just for me to say, it worked better with the older design.
I don't know about your buttons, but mine has stopped rattling. Perhaps some glue needed more time to settle.

[Q] s-pen not working water damage

I dropped my phone into the sink earlier today and then got it out. The phone was still working spen and all and then a few hours later the spen stopped working on some apps like Facebook and instagram and then stopped working all together. I have checked my note 10.1 spen and it is not working on my phone either. Any suggestions?I have tried checking other forms about this and none have seem to help.
UPDATE- I have completely took apart the phone and put back on my old cracked lcd and digitizer and the spen still does not work. I don't know what else it could be.?????

FIRST thing you do when your phone gets wet is turn it off and pull the battery!
Then you MUST dry it and confirm it is dry inside, some people soak it in dry rice for a few hours or something similar.
If you have any moisture in the phone and leave it on with the battery in it.... you WILL RUIN IT!
I would defiantly recommend doing this now before your phone suffers worse damage than just the S-Pen not working (its probably actually the digitizer for the S-Pen)

Thank you I have already taken the whole phone apart and did not find any water. It was in the water for so little time that the whole phone was not submerged because I saw it so quickly. Is the spen digitizer something I can replace?

I hate to say it but it sounds like you shorted something out in the circuit board.
I had a similar problem where my usb port became unresponsive after water damage.
Luckily a new one is like 11$
If I were you, I would buy a donor phone (cracked screen with clean esn) and swap circuit boards.
Then again, not using the spen sounds cheaper.

The thing that does Not add up to me is the fact that there is no other problems with the phone. If I shorted something out wouldn't there be some sort of other problem with the phone?
Thanks
OK first the phone does not in any way "sense" when you touch the s-pen to it. The way it works is when the pen is close enough and the tip is pressed in, the phone senses that.
Anyone with a working pen can test this, hover the pen over the screen and use your finger to press the tip in.
Anyhow the first question is when the pen is close to the screen do you get the hover icon?
Second is does your phone s-pen work on your tablet?
2 minutes of my life I'm never getting back reading and typing this!!!!

2 things to check:
First check in setting>SPen and make sure that everything is on and correct in there.
--Pen detatch sound set as any sound and not off
--Air View on
Second insert and remove the SPen a few times from the phone and check if it makes the insert and remove sound.
If the settings are right, and you dont get a sound... there is a microswitch in the holster for the pen, its stuck.
Try disabling battery saving in settings>spen it should allow the digitizer to come on with the switch stuck.
If the settings are right and you do get a sound digitizer shorted out.
I wonder what happened with this...

[Q] Software or Hardware problem after rain? Xperia ray

Hello guys,
two days ago I got myself stuck in heavy rain, with my xperia ray in my pocket. Whenn I got home I checked whether there was water in the phone.
Luckily it was just a bit at the bottom of the rear side and everything seemed normal, but when I pushed the home button, the white light changed into yellow, and, for I have CWMrecovery, there was no more blue light at boot. A while later even the home button and volume rocker did not respond anymore (which now is fixed). Has this to do that some water actually got in the phone and ruined the LED notification light, or what could it be?
Thanks in advance
Try cleaning your phone board using IPA..

Hi there ,First of all..when u got to know that phone is wet..you should immediately disconnect the battery to avoid internal short circuiting..I suppose its hardware..If its software u can see if SEUS fixes your problem but before operating phone you have make sure its not damaged by water..
If u havent done that water might permanently damage the circuitry inside your phone..
Clean your phone with IPA isopropyl alcohol, which might fix the issue..
The Rain water after getting dried up might leave salt traces on the board which may conduct (even when water is dried out) causing damage to the board so use IPA to clean it off by disassembling your phone..
You can google Ray disassembly, or have a professional do it for you..
If your phone was completely submerged your battery might not be working fine anymore..check your battery once..
It can be dangerous operating with a faulty battery..it might melt or even worse explode so make sure your battery is good..
Water can be a serious threat for electronics..so i dont guarantee that your led will work anymore but still its worth a shot ..:good:
Clean the board to see if everything else is working fine..but you may have to give up on that led..good luck
Hope i helped

Many thanks!
I already figured it had nothing to do with software, because several apps even confirmed that vibration and haptic feedback should work fine on the phone.
I did disconnect the battery and saw that only the lower side of the rear side (opposite to the LEDNOTLIGHT) was a little wet.
Apart from the problems I mentioned earlier I am 100% sure nothing else was damaged by the water, or as you stated, the left-over salt.
I'm definitely gonna try the IPA, thank you very much!
I'll keep you up-to-date
Glad i helped you..

How do you recommend cleaning the board? Drip the IPA on it and wait for it to dry, or what´s the best way?
Does this IPA work for the vibration and haptic feedback too? since those are practically located next to eachother

You have to physically disassemble the phone first, then use a microfiber cloth, dip it in ipa and clean the board .. stillI dont think your phone got wet enough for water to get in so much..

If it's not caused by water damage as you said, could having it put away in the bathroom with a hot shower on have caused it? Maybe because something caused the H. feedback to stop working and the LEDNOTlight to freak out?
Moisture from hot shower may cause damage but not sure....
To be simplelease keep your away from water..unless u have a Xperia Z or ZR or V or whatever.....

Well, the white and blue light are back, but the haptic feedback unfortunately not, and somehow the LEDlight doesn't flash anymore when a whatsapp message comes in, but that might just be me not paying attention..
Any idea how to deal with the vibration not working?
The vibration is made with a small motor with an off - centre weight on it, I have changed them before on my old Nokia ,I think most newer phones use the same type.

Random screen on

Yesterday I got my LG G watch and everything was great, then this morning I tried to apply a screen protector, and since then my screen has been randomly turning on and stuff, it launched Google voice search by itself or swiped trough the cards by itself. I already did a factory reset, but the problem still persist. Does anyone else face this problem and is there a way to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: After turning developer options on and using the show touches option I can see my screen is pressed without I am pressing it (the entire time it's the corner at the bottom right of the screen). Is this an over sensitive screen? Or maybe it happened because I tried to apply a screen protector?

Yesterday I got my LG G watch and everything was great, then this morning I tried to apply a screen protector, and since then my screen has been randomly turning on and stuff, it launched Google voice search by itself or swiped trough the cards by itself. I already did a factory reset, but the problem still persist. Does anyone else face this problem and is there a way to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

I have a spigen screen protector on (dry install) and have no issues. Was yours a dry install as well? Not sure what happens with wet installs.

Mine also was dry install, I used a screen protector tool to get the bubbles out, maybe I pushed too hard? (which is not likely, because I have applied dozens of screen protectors and never had any issues)

Unsure. I would just take off the protector.I hope it didn't cost too much. Maybe try another?
Stupid question, did you take off the factory cover prior to installing the new one? Sorry, I have to ask lol.

Haha, didn't cost too much, however, de problem persist even when screen protector is removed..
Yes I did take it off
Oke, first I thought it was due to an oversensitive touchscreen, however, now I am experiencing the problem when in direct sunlight, when getting back inside the problem keeps appearing for an hour or something and then disappears.. Is this common for some touchscreen?

Mine turns on randomly all the time, it's super annoying, but I think there might be a way to disable it.
I think it's supposed to be a feature: you move your arm around, and the screen turns on so you can read it. Neat idea, but it's waaaay too sensitive, and my screen turns on alllll the time for no reason.
However, your watch is even scrolling through pages and activating google now? Yikes. And it still scrolls/activates google now after you removed the screen protector, not just turning screen on? Unfortunately, I would probably try to exchange it But you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunate you experience the same with your watch, however, mine is not too sensitive, but the heat of the sun or bright daylight causes the touchscreen to activate and register a touch, I already informed LG of my problem, and they said they took the problem to the technical staff and will inform me in a couple of days what to do
