[q] possible brick please help!!! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i was trying to odin back to stock with my phone as i had done before many times. I think some how i checked re partition by mistake. Any way it didn't write. So then i unchecked but still didn't write stock rom. I disconnected the phone and then it was all bad from there. I got the phone and computer sign. So i tried a method of getting it recovery that had worked for me before witch was to remove battery plug phone into usb and hold up and down volume keys and put battery in. Please someone help!!!!!! With all the great developers onthis site i know someone can help or deliver the bad news that it's nothing i can do. Thanks in advance.....

you're only soft bricked, when i've used odin i've had repartion checked everytime and its worked fine (apart from a few freezes but its worked after)
try it by holding the vol buttoms with battery in and plugging usb in
if it doesnt work at first keep unplugging and replugging in and try different usb ports, it once took me 2 hours of doing that before it connected
and it can connect to odin from the phone ! pc screen so keep an eye on odin for it connecting

This is true - more than once I've had different crap interupt the process while ODINing, and ended up with that screen - but ODIN was able to see my phone, so I went through the process as if I had the regular download mode screen, and it worked fine.

thank you!!!!! you are the man. i opened odin up and kept battery in and held buttons and put in usb cable and it worked. no one ever mentioned that odin could see the phone without being in download mode before. i would kiss you if it wasn't for the you being a guy thing. lol

no prob, glad to help
just putting the usb in like that with the battery in only works for me, the other way of pushing the battery in doesnt
so try both ways if there's a next time, it might get moody and not want to work the way you normally do it
the phone ! pc screen's pretty much another version of download mode i think

I had this same thing happen after Odin froze during a flash of the stock Vibrant US firmware. I thought for sure it was dead...no battery charging icon when plugged in, couldn't boot into download mode, no signs of life at all...nothing I did made it do anything. After messing around for an hour and a half I figured out how to get it to boot into download mode:
1. Removed SD and SIM card
2. Removed battery
3. plugged the phone into USB
4. held down vol-up and vol-down
5. popped the battery back in while holding vol buttons
This got me into download mode consistently when my phone looked 100% dead. After that I unplugged it from the computer (still in download mode), fired up Odin, set up my flash files, and plugged it back into the computer. It then showed up in Odin and I was able to re-flash successfully.
Maybe it will work for you guys too. Don't put the SD card or SIM card back in until after you flash, though. I couldn't get mine to flash correctly with the cards installed.

Did not work at all... Accidentally I flashed my phone with a i9000 firmware tar file and now the phone is dead... can anyone tell me please how to save it? I don't have a phone at all
everyone just needs Download mode. access it whatever way you can same thing as recovery mode its just usually not that simple to get into using the multi-button methods. If all else fails to access download mode buy a team whiskey pre-made USB JIG. I havent purchased one but from the responses it seems like a good buy especially if you find yourself in a spot like most of you are in

Which firmware (kernel only or complete)? Link?
Which OS were you from before odin up the KA7?
I ran into similar problem. I was from Stock Froyo Kies, then odin over the supercurio stock+kernel KA7. It got black screen ...for a good 5-10 min. I was going to pull out battery but I heard some mumble jumble in the background telling me that it's converting (voodoo ext4) so I left it alone. If you pulled out too early during the conversion before it finish doing voodoo...I'm not sure what happened to that unless your odin KA7 does not have odin. Do you see any light, sound, or splash screen at all?
When you flash, did you have "repartition" checked or not?
Anyway, have you try the 2 button download mode? Mine was silent dead black screen too at one point from last few days with few variation difference caused by different tinkering mistakes. I just took off battery, sim, sd and kill odin. Reput them all back and fire up odin. Hold down both the + and - with 2 fingers, then hook in USB from pc to phone. It should put it to download mode and you can reodin whatever...depends what it can do.
same situation here.
i came from T959UVJFD then i flashed T959UVKA7 (.tar.md5 file from samfirmware.com) using odin3 v1.70
odin says it was finished. but it doesnt turn on anymore. i cannot even go to download mode.
PLEASE HELP!
any kind of button combo doest work
try downloading odin3v 1.85 and using this method to put in to download mode
1. pull the battery,
2. put it back in;
3. then, with the phone still off, plug your usb into the computer,
4. turn on odin3,
5. hold the center of the volume buttons,
6. plug the usb to the phone while holding the volume botton

I know I'm posting this on multiple threads, but Im desperate! I'm having the exact issue as OP, am hoping a suggestion from someone helps. Right now my hope is hanging on the comments from people here claiming "it is REALLY difficult to brick this phone".
I was "downgrading" from ICS Passion with GB bootloader, down to stock. The "downgrade" to 2.1 worked fine. Then I used Kies to upgrade to Froyo, and after the install it shutdown, and now the phone doesn't respond to any key. Tried a different battery as well, to eliminate a probably battery issue. No good.
Tried different combos to get to recover/download modes: Vol UP + Power, Vol Down + Power, Vol Up+Vol Down+Power, and Insert Cable+ Vol UP+Vol Down - nothing yet. Used ODIN 1.85 with suggestion from canyon789, and that didn't work either.
Any ideas? Please help.

If your willing to wait the approx. week, call up Samsung tell them that you were updating through Kies and then your phone would no longer turn on, you've tried different batteries and tried different cables and still nothing, she/he will try to help you get into recovery mode, just go along with it, she will then help you get everything you need to send it to Samsung's nearest repair center. Sent mine in last thursday, they replaced the PBA (logic board) and are sending it now. Should be here in 2 days :]

Did you try the exact no-boot steps from the Guide linked to above?
I tried everything else, only the exact sequence worked.
Battery out, phone plugged in, Odin running: press center of volume keys,
insert battery.

his is not going to help at all, you damage the bootloader you as happened to me, but in my case it did ODIN, Mini Kies did.
The only thing you can try and see if you have some success is to do two things:
* Easy way: pay for you to get a JTAG on the phone and reinstall the bootloader. (Actually that's what you Damage to flash it)
* Terse: Vibrant Unbrickable do MOD
(but must be done by someone who is skilled in welding and electronics, as this takes a lot of risk, as is jumping two pins that control the processor of the phone)
note that the device is already damaged, you try to repair it, if you do not succeed, At Vibrant Ebay sell broken, win one for 53.66 at auction. and attempting to repair Give you a MOD.
I hope you will help.
If Mini Kies damaged your phone, call Samsung, tell them that you upgraded with Mini Kies and now it won't turn on and they replace it for free.

[Q] No Power Brick

I was reflashing my Vibrant to stock using Odin3 v1.3. It seemed that everything went fine. When the reinstall completed, and went to boot up, my phone would not turn back on. No download mode, recovery mode, or regular boot mode screens at all. The battery is working and charged and still nothing.
I was given the really good suggestion of upgrading to Odin 1.7 or 1.8. And follow the plug in, hold, battery in instructions for several hours with no results so far.
Any other suggestions?? Any and all are appreciated.
Maybe one of the files you used was corrupted or was for another Galaxy S variant. I can't think of anything else that could've caused your phone to brick like that.
Have you tried getting into download mode using a different computer?
If it works I suggest re-downloading all the files including ODIN from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Thanks for the response.
After rereading the other suggestion I got, I think I may not have added the PIT file when I reflashed to stock. That's the only thing I can think of. It won't power on or be recognized by any computer. There is no response from it at all.
I'll keep trying.
I have bricked my vibrant many times playing with different roms. I almost had to build the cable jig. I have found without fail though if your phone will not do anything that there is one easy way to get it back into download mode for another attempt.
1)pull the battery from the phone and make sure the device is not connected to a USB.
2)hold both the volume up + volume down buttons in until the loading screen displays at the end of the steps listed.
3)slide the battery back into place in the phone
4)with the USB cable plugged into the computer, attach it to the vibrant.
5)press the power button
this method has worked 100% of the time for me. The only time i had an issue, i had loaded the wrong bootloader onto the phone from the i9000. In that case, search for the button press combo to get into download mode for the intended phone. (im still have a dsylexic phone - it displays i9000, then vibrant )
Hope this helps, i have found the vibrant to be unbrickable (thankfully, because im learning android with this phone)
Do you get anything at all like the spindles when you plug it into a charger or PC?
Also what are the .pit and .tar files you are using in ODIN? link maybe?
- You need to be able to see either the spindles or the batt charge icon to do the button method if not then you will need to go the usb jig route to get into download mode. Good luck!
No, I get no response from my Vibrant. No spindles or battery charging status. A complete brick.
I'm using the proper PIT and TAR files. The problem (I think) was that I didn't load the PIT file when I ran ODIN. Now, I can't get anything. I have all the proper files to do the ODIN flash now. I just can't get a response from the brick.
I have seen the the usb jig method mentioned. It looks like it may be over my head. I have no idea how to use an iron to make those connections. FML>
I just had the same exact problem. I searched google and found a way out. Pull your battery and replace it. Do not connect the phone to pc. Hold the volume up key only and hit the power key. I did this and my phone went into dl mode. I hope this helps!
Unfortunately you are in a hard brick situation. However, I can fix this using JTAG. PM sent...
Once again you learn something new everyday here at XDA with the help of the community I like the sound of this, I assume its alot like the XBOX360 JTAG deal. Heres a link I found:

Are you getting into download mode with the battery pulled(ie...pull battery and hold vol. down, yellow triangle should appear)? If so, try redownloading the samsung drivers. If that don't work, try another computer to make sure its not a usb issue. also make sure your using the stock usb cable that came with your phone.
ya i have tried 4 computer is the household and still not yellow triangle...err....someone told me try and make
You can try to put it in download mode away from the computer by keeping the battery in, pressing and holding the volume down button, and plugging it into a wall socket.
If the phone powers on and goes into download mode, unplug it and go over to your computer without turning the phone off. Plug it into your USB port and remove the battery.
From there you should be able to run Odin and flash back to stock.
Not sure if it will work for you... but it's worth a shot.
what i have heard i hard bricked the phone. I can get the phone even to turn on. I have tried the usb jig but i couldnt get it to work so i ordered one on line and should be here tommarow. I believe that I flashed with my sd card in would that cause this to happen?

[Q] S2 stuck in ODIN Mode - Not recognized on computers

I had tried to update my phone via Kies and the computer blue screened. Now the phone is stuck on the ODIN Mode screen with a picture of my phone on the left, a yellow triangle in the middle, and a computer on the right. Taking the battery out does nothing, restarting does nothing, restarting while holding down the volume buttons does nothing. No matter what, it always comes back to this screen.
When I plug the device into my windows based PC and open ODIN, ODIN does not see my phone. When I plug it into my linux computer and run lsusb, it does not list my phone in the output, so the computer definitely isn't recognizing that my phone is plugged in. A couple of weeks ago, I had this problem while trying to back up the phone, so I'm not sure if it's related to the botched upgrade or not.
Does anyone have any tips or advice here? I'd really love to be able to use my phone again. I am using the cable that came with the phone. I have the same results with other cables, as well....
I'm happy to provide more information if needed. Just tell me what you need to know.
That screen is a form of download mode. You should be able to flash stock or stock plus root from there.

If this statement reflects what you actually did, then it suggests the wrong order. You must first open oden on the desktop, and then connect the phone to the computer in download mode.
Try that first.
Next you could try putting the phone into download mode with the battery pulled out. Open Odin on the desktop, then with the battery out, hold down the vol- button while plugging in the usb cable.
Thanks for your response.
So I went ahead and cleared out everything and then reinstalled the USB drivers. Opened ODIN, connected USB to computer, took battery out of phone, put battery back in, held down volume buttons and inserted the cord. The screen immediately loaded up the one I spoke of in my first post. Odin still did not recognize that I had my phone plugged in.
So then I installed Kies and went to the firmware restoration item under the tools menu. Entered my model and serial number and put my phone into recovery mode according to the instructions there, but the "Start Upgrade" button was grayed out and never became clickable.
One thing I did notice while doing this (On yet another new computer) is that when I plug in the phone, I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" error in Windows. I'm not sure if this is a result of it being in download mode or not, but I thought it worth mentioning. I did attempt to blow out my mini USB on the phone for good measure, but had the same result, even with another cord.

Yes, multiple ports on multiple PCs.

First of all make sure that your PC isnt running Kies in the background - Use Tsk Manager to kill Kies process
Then Plug In your Phone
Enter Download Mode by holding both volume buttons and powerbutton till the Boot Screen Appears.Let the power button go when you see the boot screen but keep holding the volume buttons.
In no time you'll be in Download mode
Then go to odin and check if your computer recognises it. Odin willl show you (Com:x) X - Any Number
Then you can easily flash stock rom or a custom recovery..

You could order one fairly inexpensive. But order it or make it still takes some time. But as several have mentioned, it may help.
Did you try forcing download mode with the battery out as I suggested in the second post?
Yes, I have tried forcing download mode by taking the battery out, holding down Vol and inserting it again. These are also the instructions that Kies gives, but it didn't work there either.

My phones update failed and I got the same phone, triangle, computer. I tried different USBs, different USB ports, different computers, tried Odin, nothing worked. As soon as I found my USB jig that was lying around, and plugged it in before I put in the battery, and the regular download mode which I am used to seeing showed up. ODIN recognized the phone and I flashed back to stock ICS rooted I downloaded from XDA.

That's different that what I suggested. Remove the battery and leave it out. If you have to, sit on it so you won't be tempted to put it back in, lol. While holding vol down button, plug in the usb cable. The usb will supply the power. The phone should boot into download mode.

I guess I misread that. I blame it on my stressful week ending with no phone
So I just did that and boom, download mode as I would expect loaded up first time, no issues after I held down both Volume buttons while plugging it in (Holding down just Vol - didn't do anything). Unfortunately, it still did not show up in Odin (Kies background processes were all killed and USB driver IS installed on this computer and Odin WAS open before I plugged the phone in)
So I unplugged, opened Kies, and was going to try a restore through there since I could finally get download mode working properly. Except when I tried it this time, nothing happened. I held down the vol buttons, plugged it in, got a single vibrate, but nothing showed up on the screen. Unplugged, put the battery in, and it turned on and screen worked. Took out the battery and just plugged it in and the screen worked after vibrating 6 short pulses (It pulled up the screen mentioned in my first post). Unplugged, held down vol buttons and plugged it in, same thing. Blank screen.
Now I'm really at a loss. I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my USB port on the phone itself.

Hi there,
i have same problem with my Galaxy ACE GT-S5839i: i can't get ODIN to detect my phone. Originally, i tried to flash my phone and made a mistake in the process (installed a ROM before i installed CWM). This caused my phone to stop booting. The only thing remaining working is the download mode. But i can't get ODIN to detect. I tried 2 PCs, different USB ports; i tried to install Kies, or just the drivers... nothing makes ODIN detect my phone... I hear my PCs detects the phone when in download mode (it bips) and my PCs both recognized my phone (Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device). On PC uses windows 7 and the other Windows Vista. I ran ODIN v4.38 on both... Would be grateful for any idea what to do...
SOLVED

I had the same problem with kies on a sprint s2. EXACT same problem. Cord got jerked out in the middle of Odin flash. THE ONLY screen i could get is the one you described.
Also went through the steps with keis, dl firmware, got to the last part but the start button was greyed out. I had to do this several times and finally the start button lit up. Idk why it didn't work before but it finally did. Have you tried doing it more than once?
I wished i could be more help but that was my experience. Maybe it will work for you.
