Hi All
Newbie here from New Zealand, I got my Samsung Galaxy S2 a few weeks ago via parallel import. *#1234# shows the following:
PDA: I9100XWKE2
Phone: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100OXXKE2
I'm thinking about flashing to get rid of the flickering brightness problem. Samsung NZ doesn't want to help because it's a parallel import.
I have been reading a lot about the flashing and have a couple of questions if anyone could help me.
1.XXKE2 vs. XXKG3?
Apparently the latest firmware upgrade is XXKG3 and Intratech is loving it, what sort of improvements have been confirmed versus XXKE2? Any current problems with XXKG3?
2.Currently the phone has a multi CSC, if I flash to KG3 which CSC should I use?
Thanks in advance
fyi, the latest is KH3 .. not KG3 ..
1. each of the firmware & modem depends on location, some said that XX is drain battery, some said that XX reception is low,etc .. unfortunately, you need to test it yourself..
but .. normally the latest contain less bug..
2. it's always advisable using same firmware (KH3) with CSC for better result.

Thats relatively true best is generally the latest but not always for all phones .
2. it's always advisable using same firmware (KH3) with CSC for better result.
Does not matter what CSC you use as long as it covers your location as it only contains a list of network settings .CSC itself may be numbered later but contents rarely change .
Basics is you want a CSC that covers New Zealand and that can be flashed separate as can a modem if needs be .

Guys,
Recently ditched my Desire HD which I've had alot of fun with for (what I considered to be) a far superior phone but basically got a little fed up with the display after catching a glimps of the SGS2's screen, haven't had the HD on since!
Although I considered myself adapt at flashing and rooting, I have to admit to finding myself a little confused here as to what exactly I can do with my phone. Yep, I've searched, nope, I don't want flamed, just need a few things cleared up then I'm off to have some fun!
Details from my phone...
PDA: I9100XWKF3
PHONE: I9100XXKH3
CSC: I9100CPWKD1
I'm rooted using CF matched Kernel and have remained on that, does no harm as far as i'm aware except for yellow triangle at boot..
I'd like to go from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 too and wondering about what to flash and what would fit, my CSC is Carphone Warehouse would that be correct? How important is it to match CSC?
Regards Baseband, doesn't really matter does it but no harm in trying modems is there?
And firmware, thought about Frankenstein XXKF3 or 4 or am I getting things totally wrong? Think it's the WK to XX and not sure what impact that'll have.
And on that note, does the firmware version stiplulate which ROM I can load? So if i go to 2.3.4 (XXKH3 or 4) am I then limited to flashing only XXKH3 or 4 ROM's? Does it matter what I flash over my phone? I've also read that some ROM's contain Kernels and may have to flash a stock kernel after flashing the ROM to match firmware or even re-root?
Actually the more I read back on that, appears I know nothing at all and that's not even funny! Even went back to the original SGS forums in the hope that I'd find what I need there.
I know that unless I move back to stock (which I am at the moment), Kies wont off the eventual 2.3.4 update but to be honest I'm not fussed as developers and cooks here do a much better job and that's experience from my HD days.
I have flashed MIUI as that's the ROM I used longest on the HD, loved it but quickly went back the more I satrted to read and to be honest, would prefer to stay stock for a while and get used to the phone, is that do-able with a flash from the developers forum?
So does the ROM have to match the firmware I'm currently using, can I upgrade to 2.3.4 firmware, choose a kernel of my choice and any rom?
Obviously not picking something up, hopefully someone has the answer I need without the links to pages read allready, want to start having some fun and soon!
Cheers!

firmware is read by the last three letters KF3 is what you currently have.
there is no problem upgrading to KH4.

no your not limited to flashing any rom, you can mix and match arounding to your needs and preferences.
after rooting they reflash the kernal to get rid of the yellow triangle, there is a tuturial for that chainfire's rooting thread, 2nd post.
So does the ROM have to match the firmware I'm currently using, can I upgrade to 2.3.4 firmware, choose a kernel of my choice and any rom?

no the rom does not match the firmware, yes you can upgrade to 2.3.4.
yes you choose the kernal and rom that you prefer.
All roms contain a kernel .
CSC is not really required as long as you enter the settings for your network manually but stick to cwm or xeu for UK ..
CSC are not upgraded and are often much older than the rom version .
KH3 probably the best current modem .
Rom is the whole firmware kernel modem OS etc .
You can have a KF2 firmware and swap kernel to KH2 and modem to KG2 in theory and it will work most of the time for varying combinations .
USB jif is better than flashing kernel to remove warning triangle as it also resets rom counter to zero
Me >>Cognition 1.51 rom based on KH3 and i have KG2 modem and no CSC .
Kernels have swapped just the kernel about four times on this and swapped and tried every rom on here .
Rom backed up using Nandroid via CWM recovery and apps backed up using Titanium pro .
Even a failed boot is usually recoverable with ease on SGS2 .

Hi Folks,
I did a little search before posting this thread and could quite find what I was looking for. I apologise now if I've overlooked threads regarding this.
I swapped my uk international Black S II for my other halfs White O2 branded S II.
I proceeded to debranded it by flashing PDA: XWKI4 | PHONE: XXKI1 CSC: XEUKH2 from Intratech via odin then did a factory reset and wipe cache in recovery mode. It was previously running PDA: XWKJ1| Phone: XXKI4 CSC:O2UKJ1
Ok, My Problem...
I Was paranoid about the 3G/HSDPA connection not being as fast as it was on my black uk international version. Ya know what its like when ya convince yourself theres something wrong with your phone. I'm not sure if I needed to also flash a kernal?
I then sent a text to O2 to send through settings for internet.Received the configuration settings, installed and then restarted the phone. After coming back on it had a massive drop in battery life. (See attached image). Could this also be due to the kernal?
What have I done wrong? Would I just be better running the O2 firmware?
Also, the White SII was made in China, and the black one Korea. I kept the battery from the black one and put it in the white one. (Battery also made in Korea) and vise versa.
All the apps i have installed are exactly the same as I had on the black one, and never had any battery draining problems.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks.
Warren
The answer is on the Stock ROM thread:
Used XXKI3 modem in this package as I compared it to XXKI4 and whilst performance was similar on O2 network XXKI3 was more efficient when it came to battery life.

That might be the cause of your phone's hunger for battery.
If I flash that Kernal won't I lose the ability to update unbranded firmware through kies? Could post the link to that thread please?
Did I debrand the phone incorrectly?
Thanks.

Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

can i install the below listed indian stock firmware using odin
PDA :I9100XWKE8 CSC:I9100ODDKE2
or do i need to install the firmware from UK
PDA :I9100XXKF2 CSC:MULTIOXAKF2
do i need to change the csc if i install the UK version?
Thanks
forget about csc.
if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.
ad dont forget to wipe using the dialpad code *2767*3855#. [will wipe all data stored]

My friend dont go for LPJ that is unofficial beta release,
go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...
or pick anyone from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
Thank you Zac and Atif.
I have tried to do a factory rest from the phone's privacy menu but even after everything is done, istill see some files in the gallery.
i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN
thanks for the responses.
I have upgraded to I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP, and its working fine. the only problem seems to be its heating a bit where the camera is located . will read more topics and see why this is happening.

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

For a start, if you remember your last ROM that doesn't had heat issues, flash that modem. Doesn't matter if you use GB modem on ics.
I flashed the modem of my region xxki4 which is 2.3.5 jpkj2 and had no issues of heat in ics.

Hi
I'm just wondering if after flashing a new custom ROM (or indeed I started to mod my own rom from Wanam's de-odexed latest stock rom) should I flash my original CSC from 3Hutchinson UK (H3GALE4) or stick with the latest unbranded UK CSC? It's still unclear to me precisely what the CSC does?
Surely it is the radio/modem version that determines connection speeds/efficiency of the modem etc? Or could the CSC have special 3 mobile firmware for getting better connection with their network? - Or what I suspect is that it just loads the 3 network boot screen and installs the 3 app?
Thanks

Afaik csc file determines the country code and what apps are to be installed per country that samsung assigned, like bbc player for the UK. But it`s not that important to be honest.
Thanks,
So only the CSC is carrier specific? Radio/Modem is purely just firmware for the radio and modem? I ask because in the UK 3-Network transmit using UMTS (not GSM) on 2100MHz so I wondered if there was anything that could optimise this. It seems to me that ALL 3 phones in the UK use the NELE4 modem - is there a reason for this?
I'm on 3 in the UK had it for a few weeks now on le8 and le4 modem rooted and changed the kernel to siyah but don't want to flash a custom Rom yet for the csc reason and seen in a few places people losing imei number too is that them just being completely dumb tho and flashing incorrect roms etc?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I had read the same although I took precursive efs backup and immediate image of my initial stock. I've flashed through some nice ROMs but recently decided to make up my own from one of Wanams deodexed stock roms. However I have really liked the Omega rom so I may roll with that, but I have been reflashing the CSC to 3 H3GALE4 thinking perhaps it improves things for 3 users??? But I reckon moreliekly just provides the 3 splash screen on power up.
My interest in modems and/or CSCs is that my primary reason for the sgs3 is not so much a phone as my home internet provider as i live in v rural area yet with an anttenna I can get above 5mb/s whereas my land line can barely provide 1mb/s. So any modem/mod/hack which specifically improves this and perhaps even the software/driver behind tethering is what I'm keen on learning about.
Great phone though.
Amazing phone couldn't want more gui is so smooth I have from some where got on my internal sd a efs-backup.zip so I will back that up and try checkrom worst comes to I send it back

Well I tried Checkrom and that too is really really good. Prior to flashing a new custom rom I followed the instructions of flashing back to original stock and triangling away which worked absolutely fine too.
Yeah already tested triangle away works wonders with siyah kernel it dont even need to restart the phone great work on that chainfire

I'm sure whether or not I get terrible 3G speeds without the 3 modem or not
Poor speeds is often modem related try BULF1.
CSC can be copied out of original rom and replaced in a custom rom before flashing .
System CSC folder and CSC version text .
CSC is not required for a phone to work and is only a list of local area network connections on stock .

Been running Turkbey Custom ROM for a month now, and 3 mobile CSC was not available in this ROM but it has had no effect on anything and everything I do, and installed bbc iplayer and 3 network app automatically, so I agree CSC is not that important.

Thanks for info. I'll try BULF1 in my little ongoing tests.
Does anyone know of a custom mod/app that replaces the stock "tethering" software with a better one? I ask because I can get 10Mb/s mobile data connection on the phone but when I tether my laptop, that will only reach 4-5Mb/s. I want my phone to act as good modem router - seems the stock one isn't as good as it could be??

I've been at sea for anumber of weeks so I have only just caught up with this thread again. I have tried a number of modems (and given them a few days to "chill out"). All though I still do not have any quantative proof it *seems* as if the original NELE4 modem works the best - by best I don't mean connection speeds but in the UK without moving location I seem to get H+ more consistently whereas other modems would *seem* to jump between 3G, H and H+ more randomly. These are only thoughts - my observations may be completely wrong. WOndering if anyone else has noticed similar?
Even if I am not in the UK, I would like to confirm my understanding of CSC as I just found out that my phone's status is CSC: unknown after I flashed the newest 4.0.4 update for my region (TH, I9300T).
As I understood CSC does not impact the phone a lot, only the region specific play store settings and networks. Currently I face no problem with the phone at all, normal reception etc., hence would you still recommend flashing the correct CSC to remove the "unknown" status or just keep it like it is and wait for JB later? (I am aware that CSC flashing will format my phone)
Thanks

I really am not the best person to answer this I am afraid although does reflashing your CSC really format the phone?? I thought you could use ODIN to just reflash a CSC and leave the modem and FW intact but I may be seriously wrong so don't do it on account of what I've said! Hopefully someone will clarify.
As has been said by others on this thread (many thanks) I really doen't think the CSC matters that much at all - the only difference I notice between the 3UK CSC (H3GALE4) and a non-branded UK CSC is that I lose the Three logo on boot and BBC Iplayer and Twitter App aren't installed.

No. Csc doesn't have anything to do with network signal.
Since your phone works perfectly, what do you want now?
I asked you some questions but you haven't answer them yet

Sorry by 4.0.4 i mean stock LPX but it has a NEE CSC .. So while surfing on internet with my mobile data, it doesn't work good ..
I just wanted to know if i can flash a NEE CSC firmware but change it to LUX ?
I'm pretty sure that's a CSC problem because when i flash a NEE CSC firmware with the same modem that used to work good on my old firmware it doesn't work .. But when i flash back a firmware with LUX CSC all works good, so now i want to flash LPX but it has NEE CSC ..
If your phone was branded (only one CSC) and you want to change it, than you must flash any stock multi CSC firmware (Odin will be the best solution in this case). Than you should change CSC manually with app or service code. You have already tried those steps but after flashing you must perform factory reset to rebuild csc system information and remove old csc from efs partition. Do this from settings menu or 3e recovery.
To fully remove brand and flush old CSC wipe is needed. Some informations about it are also stored in efs partition and sometimes flashing one file firmware doesn't change it.
If this will not help than you must flash 3 files firmware (which have included wipe commands in scripts). You will be able to change CSC without any problems.

Ok. Now I got your point but you must understand that because a modem works fine for you in your previous firmware does not necessarily means it will work the same way. That's why we have different modems out there.
For example, my original modem, XXKE7 did not work well for me after I flashed to 2.3.6 gingerbread custom ROM, but XXKI3 worked perfect for me. On upgrading to ICS it was XXKI4 that worked best for me and since moving to Aosp based Roms, XXLPW is the one working best for me.
I hope you get this now.
CSC has nothing to do with network signal. The same way modem does not affect WiFi performance.
90% of custom Roms out there have unknown/no CSC, and Network signals work perfect for people using them. You only need to find the right modem, this is not constant.
End.
To the main issue:
If you still want to flash the Rom with your country's CSC, then let me know your COUNTRY of choice.
