Urukdroid 1.5.1 Audio stops when screen turns off - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upgraded to Urukdroid 1.5 from 1.0 and then added the 1.5.1 update. The problem that I am having is that audio stops when the screen times out. I am using Podtrapper to listen to podcasts. This was always an issue with the stock Archos OS (I don't remember the last version I was using before switching to Urukdroid) but it did not happen with Urukdroid 1.0.
The symptoms are slightly different than they were with the stock OS since with the stock OS it did seem that the wakelock set by Podtrapper was not honored and the Archos went to sleep. At that point you had to hit the power button to wake it up. With Urkukdroid 1.5.1, when the problem happens I can hit the volume button the audio does come back for a few seconds and then drops out again. If I hit the power button to turn the screen back on, the audio plays continuously again until the next screen timeout.
This is on an Archos 43

It looks like the issue is in the 1.5.1 update to 1.5. I just did a reformat and new install of 1.5 on an Archos 101 and the issue was not present. I did the 1.5.1 update and now the problem is there. Any way to go back remove the 1.5.1 update on the Archos 43 without a format/new install?

G Tablet shuts down after going to sleep

Has anyone had any issue with the G Tablet shutting down after it goes to sleep? Right now I am running virtually stock (rooted with latest VS update). If I leave the tablet for 10 minutes the screen will shut off as expected, but when I try to wake it by hitting the power momentarily the tablet does nothing. If I press power for a few seconds the tablet boots up as it does from being completely shut down.
If I select sleep from the power off menu, I can wake it if I hit the power button or home button, but only if I do it within about 30 seconds. If I wait any longer, it seems to shutdown. I don't see any settings anywhere for this.
Other than this, everything else seems fine. About the only other thing I can think to mention is I did flash to tnt lite 2.02 and had to recover due to boot loops. I've reset, cleared data and cache, etc...
Thanks for any feedback.
Same happens to mine sometime. Currently running TNT 2.02
I've noticed this a few times also. I have no idea what's causing it. Fortunately, boot up is fast!
Same here
Not all the time, but close to half.
Plain vanilla not rooted.
mysterious fix
I had the similar problem where is shuts off half the time after pressing the sleep button. The symptom went away after installing the Miren browser. Can't explain it.
SH
This was happening to me and I tried many nvflashes and every rom so everything you can try. I exchanged mine today after a lot of research online and now for the first time it sleeps and wakes up. I am certain that there are just a few models that can not be fixed.
So happy to be able to hit the power button to have it wake up.
I recommend if you still can then exchange it for another.
My Malata Zpad does this sometimes too. I thought it was movement that did it, or the magnets on the case, but it looks to do it at random (or when something runs in the background?)
It used to do it 5-6 times a day, now that it's a week old it seems to do it maybe once or twice a day.
I am having the same problem. I do not remember this before the last update (3389).
The tablet is stock, not rooted.
I use the volume button to wake mine.
any one else having this problem? just got my g tablet today and it always shuts down when it goes to sleep
any way to fix it?
i was going to root it right away but hesitating now since it will void warranty - the shutdown after sleep is kinda annoying...thanks
Yeah I had similar issues under stock firmware but subsequent patches fixed the issue for me. Have yet tohave it happen on vegan or tnt lite roms.

Did you wipe to factory reset before going to vegan? Mine was doing that, but I never did factory wipe for subsequent vegan updates. Since I have done the clean install, never had this problem.
There are also several kernel updates which allows VPN, cifs, ntfs and other enhancement as well as higher fps.
Love my tablet.
well i only have the tablet for a few hours - and that was a problem out of the box
before installing anything i did the "wipe user data" option from the settings menue in the original/stock TnT - then logged in using Family name - and shut down to root (install CM/vegan ect)
i just downloaded and installed this: "1.0.0 Beta5.1 Link" - thats posted on the first post on the vegan thread
so didn't install any kernal updates or anything yet...if you can point me towards them and what to install i would really appreciate it - thanks
also seem to have a problem where no matter where on the homescreen i swipe down it pulls down the notification bar - any way to fix that?
my solution
I had the same problem out of the box as well. I tried using the Vegan rom with the same result. I went ahead and downloaded a free app called hibernate from the market. It puts it to sleep and allows me to wake it up like how its suppose to. As of now, it has yet to shutdown when asleep.
My ghetto fix til someone can truly id the problem with a proper solution. Hope this helps...

If you are running ADW launcher it is a "gestures" setting that can be changed in the ADW specific settings.
The ntofication bar problem was caused by adw ex launcher
Still having problems with the sleep mode thing, tried all thedelete user data and cashed deleting still no luck
Other then that I really love this tablet. So should I return it?

Mine too
I'm having this same problem....I find it hard to believe this is a "hardware" issue although I guess its possible. I'm running Vegan 5.1beta but it did it with the stock 3389 firmware too before I upgraded.
This issue is the only fatal flaw thus far I've run into, I'd love to get it resolved.

This is a "bump".
I just wanted to know if the folks with the original issue on this thread (gTab shutting down after sleep) tried my suggestion and if so did it fix the issue for them?
I had the same problem and it fixed it for me.

Please HELP with sound problem (logcat attached)!

My audio randomly drops out and requires a reboot to clear. All audio is silenced. For example, pressing the volume buttons do not beep. It happens randomly, but most often after a reboot.
Tonight I was able to reproduce the problem fairly consistently so I was able to get a logcat (attached) of the issue. I was using Rockplayer v1.5.5 with hardware decoding. I don't think Rockplayer is the issue because the problem has happened with other programs, like Angry Birds.
I am not an expert but I see lines like "W/AudioTrack( 927): obtainBuffer timed out (is the CPU pegged?) 0x21a528 user=00033b2a," when the issue occurs. When everything is working normally, these entries are not there. I trimmed the log file to meet the size limitations. I have the whole file if needed. Please help!!!

Moved to general
I will try and post a logcat the next time mine does it.
I'm having the same problem. I can hear sound whenever i startup the tablet, but after a while (sometimes it can be less than 1 min sometimes after 5 hours) the sound stops and i only get static noise or no sound at all. Whenever that happens, in the android log appears the following lines repeatedly (with a frequency of 1 sec):
W/AudioTrack( ####): obtainBuffer timed out (is the CPU pegged?) 0x##### user=00######, server=00######
I've tried changing ROMs without success in solving this problem, now i'm using TNTL v4.4.0.
The bug triggers while i'm using sound (games/watching videos on youtube/playng music on winamp/ pressing the battery button on the status bar, triggering that "click" noise).
When this bug is triggered, i get FC from some apps that use sound (Youtube / Winamp / some games)...
Rebooting the tablet fixes the problem untill it triggers again
i've been using adb logcat several times with this problem and the only correlation between the logs is the line described above, i've tried searching on google, but the results i get are for cellphones or pre 2.2 devices... in one of them, they interpret it as a kernel problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6280968)...
Any help is appreciated.
Same thing here on one of the woot tablets running Vegan 5.1. 1. Usually happens after coming back from sleep. I asked for a replacement and the new tablet will be here tomorrow.
I really hope this is a hardware problem and not caused by a rom or app. Still interested in finding out what causes this, so I won't have this happen again with my new tab. Did anyone have this issue with the stock rom? Are these all recently bought tablets? I didn't spend enough time with stock to encounter sound problems.
I've been toying around with my tablet to see what is causing the problem, so i started by Flashing all over to stock to find out if at some point the sound problem stops... well... here are my results untill now:
Started at TNTL 4.4.0, Many apps installed and the sound problem appears constantly and is triggered easily. Before starting I backed up everything using Titanium Backup xD.
Part 1: Format + NVFlash to "belkit 1105" + Factory Reset: Problem Still Arround, took me about 3 reboots and 7 minutes to reproduce it by playing a song and randomly click on the battery/wifi/notification buttons with the sound of those buttons turned on.
Part 2: Updated to "stock 3588" (couldn't do it through OTA because it sayed that my tablet was up to date... so I downloaded the update from the NVFlash guide and installed using this guide from the internal SD. It didn't work, it took me about 5 minutes to reproduce the error, no rebooting .
Part 3: Settings > Security > Factory Reset: ... still haven't been able to reproduce the error, i've rebooted it about 7 times and listened music for 3 hours, eventually clicking on the notification/battery/wifi buttons and it seems to work fine... at least this is a checkpoint for me
It would be great if someone with the same problem could confirm that this works, i'm going to leave my tablet playing music during the night just to be sure :9.
Oh, JIC I bought my tablet on 27 Feb from J&R Electronics Inc through Amazon.
I'm having the same problem with mine in fact I have the tablet sitting next to me and the thing just went all static and freaked the cat out and woke my wife up not exactly cool when your in bed! I may have to look into exchanging or return it! I would hate to be at work or somewhere else and have it freak out like that! It's annoying!
I'm having the same problem, I lost all sound once I upgraded to Vegan Tab Ginger. Downgrading, or any changes doesn't do anything
I have a similar issue. I installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and my sound mysteriously goes away. I can easily repeat it by putting the table to sleep and then waking it up. Sometimes, you can hear some static before it goes out.
I discussed this with Gojimi long time ago, but, I dont remember, I think the issue got lost with time. Still happens though

[Q] GTab won't awake up after going to sleep TNT lite 5.0

I just updated my Gtab to tnt lite 5.0. Now when it goes to sleep I can't wake it up using the power button or the volume buttons. The only way to use it again is to reboot. Do I need to start all over and re-flash it?
KJRain,
I'm not sure mine is working right all the time. When I resume from sleep after a short period of time, it does come back. But a couple of times when it has been sleeping a while, it had to be rebooted.
If you had a good install the first time for 5.0.0, I guess it would be reasonable to re-flash and try again. If you had problems, however, and I did -- I would be inclined to wait and see how many other folks have the problem and how it gets addressed.

I believe it's becoming a common issue with the new rom. I was one of the testers for TnT Lite 4.3.0 (pre-release to TnT Lite 5.0.0), and that's when I first experienced the sleep issue. I also experience the sleep issue in TnT Lite 5.0.0. My gut is telling me that it's an issue with 3991, but I can't explain why some folks don't experience the issue. Based on the postings I've read, the issue is affecting the majority of the folks who upgraded to TnT Lite 5.0.0.
I installed the Tap Tap Power widget last night. In early tests, using the widget to power down my Gtab is working out well.

Hey butch I installed tap tap but the gtab still wont wake up from sleeping for a long time. How did you get the promixity sensor to work?
I had this issues. with 5.0 my tablet would NEVE wake from sleep. I tried to re-flash it twice but kept having the same proble.
Just flashed 4.2.5 and will give that a spin. So far no wake from sleep issue.
KJRain,
I don't know about the sensor, but I have gone back and built my other G-Tablet completely stock today. All the way up to 3991 with no other enhancements, etc.
It does not have the wake up problem. Works just fine.

Maybe this may give a lead to the cause. I found that the apps have a lot to do with the sleep/boot problem. On 2.4, installing Google skymap caused the gtab to reboot from sleep.
On 4.2.5, install TSCalibrate apk caused the gtab reboot instead of resuming from sleep. It seems that if the apks dive deep into the hardware, this problem occurs. I made a backup before installing TScalibrate and indeed restoring fixed the reboot problem.

KJRain,
I use the Tap Tap power wigdet to put my Gtab to sleep. When I wake up the Gtab, I press the power button it's on the Gtab. Since I installed the Tap Tap Power widget, the Gtab wakes up for me every time.
I couldn't figure out how to get the promixity sensor to work either. I was pressing all over the screen with no joy. As long as the Gtab wakes up using the power button, I'm happy. Good luck.

Ok cool. I just re-flashed it and I'm about to put 5.0 back on. I will try the tap tap again. Thanks.
I tried everything I could think of tap tap app, no lock app and nothing worked. I just went back to TNT 4.25 everything is working fine now. I'll wait until another version of TNT 5 is available.
When someone goes to TNT 5.0.1 can you let me know if the awaking from sleep is working.
Haven't had any problem with it... but then I really didn't have a problem with it on 5.0. There were a few folks in other threads that tracked their wake from sleep problems to rogue apps (SetCPU comes to mind).
Another App
Button Savior was causing some problems. Killing the service allowed me to press the power button quickly on and off. Removed app.
Then the power button wouldn't work again.
Now I'm uninstallind the Tap Tap app.
Pressing power button on and off worked.
Then I set 'End button Behavior' to nothing with Extras. Sleep time set to 15 secs. Pressing power first time brought me out.
Second time, had to reboot.
Reboot, tab auto slept after 15 secs, pressed power button, woke up.
Autosleep, power button reboots.
This is driving me nuts.
The behavior seems inconsistent.
TnT 4.3.2. Partitioned the SD card a while back, IIRC for Vegan Tab. 2048/0.
Oh, and can someone verify me so I don't have to wait 5 minutes between postings?
Sleep issue on TnT 4.3.2
I am having the same issues as those above and have followed all of the same recommendations too. This issue is very inconsistent but I suspect it has something to do with the power button mapping or service locking up. Although since I'm not Dev this is purely speculation but increasingly annoying.
Let me emphases that I received this yesterday after the Woot! sale and I'm very impressed with everything the TNT Devs have done to this build above all others IMHO. This is the only issue I'm seeing and a fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Techguy
Problem solved....for the moment.
I was able to resolve the issue by also upgrading to 4.4.0. So far I have been able to power the screen off and resume at a later point. Prior to completing this I couldn't turn the screen off at all.
Good luck!
Updated to TNT 4.4
I just updated to TNT 4.4 over the weekend and I does in fact resolve many of the issues, sleep and errors that were showing up. Thanks for the fix roebeet!
I am using Vegan 5.1.1, and have experienced the same issue. I searched around and have not find a resolution yet. But, it does not happen often. I also installed "AnyUnlock" to wake the device by pressing the volume buttons. It has been working fine since.
TnT Light 5.01
Hi guys!
First of all thanks for this forum - it is very useful.
A'm using TnT Light 5.01 for about a week and don't have "no wake from sleep" problems so far.
But since yesterday I'v got wifi not working after wake (keep connecting and disconnecting infinitely). Powering off and on helps (while just disabling and enabling wifi from Settings - don't). I'm sure, that first several days after flashing 5.01, wifi was working fine after resume.
Any suggestions?

I've seen this happen with stock, on occasion - still you might to try a data wipe if it's persistent.
How'd you manage TNT Lite 5.0.1, a week ago? I pulled it (saved the links, perhaps?)

Unit shutting down/unresponsive in dock

I am running the latest viewsonic firmware available via update. I had to flash it via the SD card as the update kept failing... that was a while ago.
I got the dock and it works, but i have a couple of issues i can't resolve.
If i leave it in the dock set to screen timeout after 30 minutes, I usually can't wake it up. I have to hold the power button for about 30 seconds and then it boots.
If it does wakeup in dock, maybe i test it right after it sleeps, many times wifi won't reconnect, even though wifi is set to never sleep. wifi locks up during wifi off, so i have to power cycle.
If i put in dock and set screen to never sleep, all seems to work fine but i don't want to leave it on all the time.
Should i do an NVflash back to complete stock? I had problems with the last update with clockwork. If i try to do a reset from the OS it just hangs and never resets. Boots back to all my data.
Thanks for any advice.

It's called Sleep of Death, refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314940
I was having this same issue. I saw in another thread I'm using SetCPU and I've set the minimum to 384 and my Screen of Death has appeared to have gone away. Keeping my fingers crossed.
