Ok so i have an Archos 101
My set up
Andriod 2.0.71 (.2.1)
Firmware (says update but wont)
board version a101it-v6
boot unknown/4.03
so whats the best set up and how do i get it to update...
I would upgrade your firmware to UrukDroid, ever since changing my A101 has been far faster and smoother, really gives the tablet a new burst of life!
i tried, after i posted that, but every time i get to the last step it tells me file corrupt. i did finally get it to do the latest ota stock update. but this thing runs nowhere near like they advertise as stock. and i dont have animated backgrounds, only 1 widget and that is weather bug, biggest sd w/ fastest class card installed. just trying to make it run better...

Glad to hear it! I hope you have noticed already that your tablet is running alot faster
(First I wanted to say, you guys all rock. I owned a Nook Color for awhile and had cyanogen mod on it and it was absolutely awesome. I do understand the basics of how to install it. I ended up selling my old nook (was low on money) and recently began to miss it, so I picked up a 8gig Nook Tablet running 1.4.2. I tried to figure this out on my own, but after 8 hours of reading threads and not having any luck I decided to finally post a thread asking for help )
Problem:
I have an 8gig Nook Tablet (brand new from the store) running 1.4.2. I would like to install Cyanogen Mod 7 on it since the stock O.S. is ... well... terrible.
To start, can it currently be done with that tablet at all? Should I even attempt to do it or wait until everything is more stable?
I did manage to get it rooted using this guys method. Next, I burnt a 4gig SD card based off Indirect's thread so I could boot CWM from it. I was intending on installing CM7 from this thread. I re-sized the 70 mb partition thing using EASEUS Partition Master, stuck the CM7 files in the directory and set about attempting to set it up
My problem is I can't even get CWM to boot. I power it on, it goes straight to the stock O.S. I hold the N button with power button, and it gives me a prompt for a factory restore (which is nice, better than the 'interrupt boot 8 times b.s.). I plug the cable in, unresponsive to anything until I take the card out
Am I doing something incorrectly, or maybe using the wrong files? If I can't install CM7 for some reason, is there any way to make the stock O.S. function better? I can't view apps without going to search->play store-> finding them, which is a pain.
Thanks so much for any help!
Hey, Just got a 32gb touchpad
I want to run Android 4 on it, but i see multiple roms there. Was wondering which one has the least bugs. Im hoping for a fully functional one, but not sure whats there. CM9 seems fairly broken.
Im looking for a fully functional non WEbOS if someone could poitn me to one
Thanks!
I'm not one to complain, but there have been quite a few of these threads started recently... such as:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618380
As far as CM9 goes, I have been running the Alpha 2 version and have absolutely no problems with it besides the camera and mic not working, and the sound issue while the screen is off. ClassicNerd and AOKP are some good alternatives and they have a lot of support, but there are more. Best place to start is the great sticky post by MindSplit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552196
If you see CM9 as "broken" then dont bother with Android on your TouchPad. All CM9 ROMs are about the same as far as how stable they are. And all CM9 ROMs just about have the same issues. They are all built from the same source.

You can only install one version of android.
I currently use ClassicNerd Rom and love it. Yes, like stated earlier they all are still a little buggy. However it is very cool to multi-boot(moboot) between webOS and android . On the Android side I'm able to download apps from the market and play a load of games. PM me and I will point you to the instructions I used.
Im running CM9 now! THis thing FLIES, only bug i really care about is the audio distortion when the screen is off one, but nbd really!
Question: If i want to Update CM, i just place it on the SD and install via CWM right. How does Moboot know its CM? If i installed another rom via CWM would Moboot properly boot into it?
AND
Is the storage shared? As in, if i boot into WebOS, will it see all the files on the 32gig storage that android sees?

Yes. just place it on your sd card and install in clockwork. It's wise to wipe cache and dalvik before you flash. There may be times when you get more than one android version show up on moboot if it is two completely different ROMs but you just need to delete the other listing. there are tutorials on how to do that. and your sd card is shared. it's structured a little differently in each OS but it all shares the same storage.
Thanks a bunch guys!
One last question
I have a bunch of apps backed up via Titanium off my GSII, can those be restored safely onto the touchpad(non system apps ofc)
Now that CM10 has been released for the NT I have started up a proper support thread. Pleas keep it as back reports and help.

I would like to run CM10 from an sdcatd. I get lost following the directions iamafanof has on his blog. Does anyone have something clearer?
I just want to boot 10 from sd ,like CM 7 was.
Thanks.
Bill
Just use the same directions used in succulent's (iamafanof) directions on how to boot CM7/CM9 from sdcard. The only thing different is to use his CM10 boot from sdcard zip.
CM10 Install Assist?
UPDATED NEAR END - I am with you miniblue... I have been running an SD version of CM7 for sometime now and absolutely love it. However, would like to upgrade to CM10 and tried using imafanof's SD boot install but somehow I messed it up so now I am running some sort of hybrid of the Nook (still has original apps installed) and CM10. So now I have the nice polished look with none of the functionality.
If someone can help me with some tips as to how to flash and start fresh with a fresh install of CM10 I would be very grateful. Now I have a nook that boots up with cyanboot bootloader but loads a hybrid of CM10 and the nook truncated Android. Now I have the Nook purchased apps (don't care to have) and no ability to do much with the Jelly Bean other than having the nice polished look.
According to the Nook, I am running Android version 4.1.1, Kernel version 3.0.31+ ([email protected] #1), Cyanmod version 10-20120903-UNOFFICIAL-acclaim. Also - My Nook seems to now think it is a 8GB nook instead of the 16GB Nook that it really is. I have the new look but all the B&N apps and no functionality beyond that to speak of. Cannot change themes, etc.
So, I made a good bootable SD card to load emmc CM10. Installed it but still have the weird hybrid version of the Nook software on it. Do I need to format the emmc or something first? I followed the instructions as indicated by chrmhoffmann on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773362 - where it says this method will overwrite everything. What am I missing?
update: so I was able to use a CWM bootable SD and formatted emmc, user data, etc. Looks like CM10 is running exclusively. Trouble is, as can be expected, it is unstable and so it goes to black screen a lot, particularly when surfing/on wifi. May have to try CM9 for awhile until 10 gets to a bit better performance.

Yes. It works fine. As everyone is aware, there are some Black Screen Of Death (BSOD) issues and a few random reboots but not to the point of a MAJOR issue.
I have posted my simple guide to installing the SGT7 (Meghd00t) ROM on my website here: http://raywaldo.com/2012/09/root-for-nook-tablet-1-4-3/ - includes video and my process worked to root & install on a stock Nook Tablet (8GB) running B&N v.1.4.3.
Thanks - - and USB disk issues.

This is awesome. I'd been thinking about doing a full restore - re-root - install w/ CM10, and it's nice to have a method to follow.
BTW - Ray, (or anybody) have you heard of anyone having problems getting their PCs to recognize their Nooks as USB drives on CM10? It's seems like after a time my PC first stops recognizing the external SD (shows a mounted drive icon but shows no information or says 'please insert an SD card") . . . then eventually stops recognizing the internal "My Nook" drive as well. At one point I did a complete USB driver uninstall-reinstall using USBdeview, and it fixed the problem but only for a day. And it did not work the second time.
I know this is NT related because it happens on any PC I use. The problem is not present when using CM7.
Ideas?
I love sgt7! Can you thank too many times on xda?
I am new here though and I have a few questions. Has anyone been able to reproduce the sleep of death bug ? Or is it completely random? I have done some minimal Linux and android development and I would love to help with improving jelly on nt. I actually have two nook tab 16s. One is running sgt7 9.13 the other 9.14. I know I haven't searched as much as I could have just yet but I wanted to see if anyone would recommend some things I could do for the devs. Can we get a trace from adb when the bug occurs or do we lose the connection immediately before? Do we know where in the libs or kernel the bug may be lurking?

Not sure which CM10 you have. I am running the SGT7/Meghd00t and it works fine for me.
One thing that you probably already know.. When you connect, Windows will beep but may not display the file manager window.
If you have USB Debugging enabled, then you have to switch to mass storage mode. In the notifications area, you will have a little USB symbol. Click on it and follow the prompts to enable the Mass Storage mode.
Another note. I have Win7/64bit so it may be relative to that. But sometimes SDCard readers, etc have trouble with my USB 3.0 ports and I have to use them on the 2.0 port instead.
Thanks Ray!
Ray, just wanted to give you props for your tutorials. They are very thorough and explain things in great detail for those who are new but want to benefit from the greatness of ROMs and rooting.

I have been using cm10 for a while and LOVE it. However, the battery life is so terrible that it's unusable at the moment. I want to install cm7 instead until the battery life improves for this rom, but when trying to install it, it doesn't actually work (cm10 still boots up). Is there a specific process I need to follow to achieve this? Thanks.

Provide more details. Does it go through the install process? Any errors? Does the cm7 install appear to complete too quickly? Are you using twrp or cwm? Have you wiped cache and data then tried installing 7?

Sorry for the lack of details. I'm using TWRP, trying to install the CM7 beta. I have wiped cache and data before flashing, as I always do. But yeah, the install seemed to complete suspiciously quickly, like 5 or 10 seconds. It does say that it completes successfully, however, with no errors.

I've had similar issues and I found in another thread that powering off and powering on the device enables Deep Sleep which helps immensely with battery life. The key seems to be remembering to do this after a SOD.
You have to do a complete power off/power on cycle, rebooting doesn't seem to work.

Hi, y'all. So I rooted my Nook Tablet awhile ago...I bought it in November 2011, I think, and I rooted it shortly thereafter using Indirect's method. It has been working great until the last 3 days. I am able to download books, but when I try and download apps (even from the B&N appstore), they always fail. I have gotten the following two messages. I tried googling solutions, but I only came across others with the same problem suggesting that you update to 1.4.3, which I will obviously not be doing since I will lose the functionality. Here are the errors:
Sorry! The application DeviceManagerService (process com.bn.devicemanager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then there's a button to force close.
The second is: Sorry! The application DownloadAdmin (process com.bn.nook.dadmin) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. There's a button after that to force close.
Also, when the downloads fail it says it is because I may not have enough space for them, but there are like 10 gb left, so not sure what the problem is.
Anyone else experiencing this? I tried reinstalling the .apk files from Titanium Backup but it didn't help. Thanks!

FWIW I've run into this "not enough space" type of error when I downloaded those apps that expect to store their data on the external SDcard while I didn't have a card in the SDcard slot.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have a 32 gb SD card inserted, so that can't be the problem, either. That's why this is so frustrating!
Great. Now when I just restarted it, it is showing that it is back to software version 1.4.0 from 9.9.9. All I did was reinstall the devicemanager and download admin files; would this have somehow unrooted it?
Well, if root has been broken, can't you just root it again?
And if root is broken, you can also update to 1.4.3 before re-rooting, should you want to.

Yes, I can re-root it, it's just a time consuming process with my ancient PC.
If I update it to 1.4.3, won't that block the ability to root it?
Nope, 1.4.3 roots fine with both Brian's and Albert's sd-card methods. (And probably any others as well, but those are the ones I have tried.)
Surely it can't be that time consuming, regardless of the age of your PC? Albert's card is under 100MB to download and then burn to SD. (Brian's is bigger.)

Are there any benefits to updating it to 1.4.3 if I plan to root again?
If you are running stock there were some bug fixes in the updated firmwares. Personally I would not run stock below 1.4.2.
If you plan to run for example CM10 the firmware doesn't matter.

Thanks! Good to know about the firmware not mattering. Sounds like updating the software and then redoing the root is the way to go, even though it took forever last time.
How can I revert to 1.4.0 and start factory fresh with my NT?
Ok, please bear with me. I'm a noob, so don't know all the technical lingo for this stuff, so I hope what I'm saying will make sense. I was able to update to 1.4.3, but that took away the ability to use the Nook Color App Manager, which I love, because it kept all the apps on the Nook's stock screen, instead of having to switch to a different screen. I would like to try and remove 1.4.3 and go back to 1.4.0 (I also liked the ability to still have access to the in-store experience, and I haven't been to a B&N to see if that is still available with this root version). I tried using the process from Adam Outler to revert to 1.4.0, but it didn't work, and is still showing it is version 1.4.3, so not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there a way to just remove 1.4.3? Somehow, when I ran the process to revert to 1.4.0, it reset my device like it should have, but it still seems to be rooted without the root ability (all the apps I have downloaded from Google Play are showing they are installed, but I can't access them from my NT and can't reinstall them). I'm guessing I need to re-root (I have down it twice, but then undone it trying to get back to 1.4.0). So...long story short, I think I'd just like to run whatever needs to be run to take my NT back to factory settings when it was first released in 2011 with 1.4.0. I have been searching for that, but just seem to find the same things I have tried. Can anyone please help with this? Thanks!

You will loose everything you will to root again if you run it.

For some reason, it took it back to 1.4.2 rather than 1.4.0, but I'm guessing that 1.4.0 may no longer be available? At any rate, I got it re-rooted and it was still having the problems, so I just went ahead and re-updated to 1.4.3 and re-rooted, so thanks for your help!
Well, 1.4.2 is better than 1.4.0 anyway, so no problem there I guess!

Did going to 1.4.3 and rerooting solve your problem? My Mother's NT is running a rooted 1.4.2 which I did ages ago, but recently on boot the BN downloader (or something to that effect) crashes and she can't download any BN apps because of it. She's also getting the out of space error you described.
I'm trying to convince her to switch to CM10.1 (which I did to my tablet not so long ago), but she refuses to do so until I can prove to her it's stable (personally I think the official RC is way more stable than the hodge podge that is the Nook OS any day, but she doesn't believe me since she's heard me complaining of the battery draining recently.) Either way I'd love to get her up and going again so she can go back to using it.

Yes! It sounds like she was getting the same errors I was getting, and it fixed the problem when I took it to 1.4.3. I just miss the nook color app manager that would allow stuff from the non-B&N market to appear on my home screen, but I've gotten used to the two home screens now, and it seems to work faster than before. One thing I will mention is that the above method asawi mentioned with the repart image frees up additional space on the nook. I think it must have re-partitioned it as part of installation (hence the name). Whereas before I had 11 gb for B&N storage and only 1 for "other" storage, after I did that update, it changed it so it was about 8 gb for B&N and 5 gb for "other." I liked that, as I don't have all that much stuff from B&N on my nook, but have more than 1 gb of other stuff, but your Mom may want to know how it affects her B&N storage.

If you're looking for a stable version of CM10, Succulent's CM10.0 dated 12/31 http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/cm10-0-jelly-bean-for-nook-tablet-uploading/ is very stable and its battery-consumption is not noticeably different than that of stock ROM.
