my ringtones and notifications that are in the same folder they have always been in are not recognized by the phone. when i pull up ringdroid to try and do it that way it doesnt see anything that is stored on my sd card. any ideas?

sd card location is /mnt/sdcard-ext not /sdcard
issue was the card, i put a new one in and formatted and all is good. so i am in the process of transferring all of my stuff from one card to the other. thanks for the reply though

I put a 16g micro sd in the card slot inside the holder for an sd card. I formatted the card so there should be nothing on it. Every time I turn on the tablet, it wants me to transfer the files but there are no files to be transferred. How do I stop that and how can I start using the card for storage?

You need to do abit of reading. The external sd slot is used to transfer files between sd card and the internal And visa versa. There is apost that is looking into it. I am eargerly waiting to use the sd card to use as extra storage.

That needs to get fixed right away. Seems very silly to do that, but Sony is known for doing silly things.
Now that the device is rooted, this should be doable by one of our more talented members.

Your other option is to check the setting for the File Transfer app and choose not to be prompted every time, and then to stop using File Manager and start using something like Astro.
If you're using Astro File Manager, you can change the folder paths in the settings so that External SD Card leads to /mnt/sdcard2 and USB Storage leads to /mnt/usbdisk1 and you'll be ready to go.

Are you saying that this has been confirmed and working successfully?
Would this be a permanent adjustment, meaning it wont reset to default on system bootup?
When i connect USB cable to my SGS3 to access content of external SD card I see multiple duplicates of folders on the root of the card. There are 3-5 instances of all folders on root of the card with exactly the same names. Some folders are empty, some of them have files without extensions, some of them seem to be real folders with real content in them.
I have tried to checkdisk with error fixing on my PC for this card in a card reader. It didn't help. The folders, when card is used in a card reader are OK, they aren't having any duplicates. I have tried to format SD card for a few times already and then transfer my data from PC to card again, it didn't help and was getting worse after each such try as the number of folder duplicates was just increasing then.
ES File Explorer isn't showing any duplicates.
This thing is really annoying and makes me mad.
Please suggest me any cure for that. Thanks in advance
MTP mode is heavily flawed, hopefully an update fixes it.
If you're rooted you can use Easy UMS Apk (see General section) to mount the external Sd in Mass storage mode on your computer

I always use titanium backup when I switch devices and I went to run the restore apps after I rooted, but the Note 2 did not recognize any back ups. I went into the SD card through My Files. Noticed A LOT of files are gone. It definitely reads the card, just not everything. Pdfs, pictures, apks, etc. all missing. I thought they were gone so I threw the SD back into my SGS2 and it read everything just fine. I'm lost here.

what is the file path you are searching? /sdcard ?.... you need to be in /mnt/extSdCard to view your external sd
the /sdcard is the internal memory.

Yeah thats where I'm at... Anything I physically put on the card reads. Just nothing that was already on there. And I did confirm they're still there putting the card in my computer
I should clarify. Anything I put on the SD card while the SD card is in the Note 2, the device recognizes and reads fine. Files/folders I had previously placed on the SD card is not being recognized by the Note 2
So lately i changed my SD card in my device to a Samsung 32GB and when I transfered all my song, later I noticed on the music player that many of the artist are missing.
when I went to check what's going on, I found out many of the folders were been replaced by empty folders that their name starts with the letter "µ".
like for example, the folder "ACDC" became "µCDC".
I tried transferring everything back again facing the same problems with different folders.
I tried doing a factory reset and tried moving the song to the SD card through a card reader, and checked the files were OK before inserting the SD card back into the device and they seemed fined, but after I inserted the SD card I noticed the folders got curropted again.
also before I inserted the SD card there was like 500 MB of free space on the SD card, while after I inserted it suddenly the was like 15 GB of free space, caused by so many data that got deleted.
I don't believe the SD card is damaged, but that my device is messing my things up....
I also remember that I couldn't transfer any video files to the SD Card when it was in the device and could only transfer them into the device's internal memory.
what can I do?
Use the sd formatting tool on your pc to format the card, if still the same then throw it away. It sounds like a fake card, did all the files work while it was in the pc?

All the files have worked while it was on the PC.
I even tried transfering everything via a card reader and everything check allright.
only when I insert it in my device some of the folders get screwd.
Hello XDA.
This is my first time to come here and register, i heared that XDA is the best android developers website so i came here to request your help.
Lately i bought Lenovo Vibe S1 that comes with 2 Nano-Sim slots but if i'm going to insert a SD Card then there are 1 Nano-Sim slot.
I have a 4GB SD Card. I inserted it to the phone. The problem here that when i copy/move files to the SD Card it doesn't show in the apps. Like, moving Photos from internal storage to SD Card it doesn't appear in gallery. Same as songs, when i move them from internal storage to SD Card they doesn't show up in 3rd music player apps. Unless i unmount the SD Card from the settings and remount it. But it is a pain to unmount and remount when i move anything to the SD Card.
So, any help to fix this?
PS: I don't want to root, flash or install ROMs to my device.

Brother what Android OS has your phone? If it is higher than 5.0 backup your files on the Sd Card and then format your Card in your Phone. After that put the files back on the Sd card. This worked for me on Android 5.1.1.

I did the method. It worked in Gallery while moving the photos from Internal Storage to SD Card it appears in gallery. But in ****ing music app it doesn't appear.
Which music app are you using? There is sometimes an issue with apps that don't use the sd-card an option called ".nomedia" filter or something like that is checked. Try to find it in your app and uncheck it. I hope that will work.

I use MusiXMatch. And i check my music in Google Play Music to check that it is not MusiXMatch's problem but the same thing. My music aren't in .nomedia. When i unmount the SD Card and mount it again i see the songs.
