Does anyone know how to change the resolution of the front facing camera? The options are all greyed out for me. On the 3vo you can adjust the res for the front camera. Our camera application seems to be lacking options...

I think in EVO the front camera is 1.3MP, but our photon front camera is only VGA. Therefore there's no other resolution to adjust.

You're correct, the Evo front facing cam is 1.3 mega pixels. The front facing came on that phone was decent for web sharing and even printing photos. The Photon's VGA cam is pretty much good for mms and video chat. No resolution setting at all.

As with most cell cameras it comes down to the post processing / lens / etc the MP / resolution plays but a factor.
The fact that it had a VGA Cam vs the 1.3 was one hold back I initially had, mostly based off the VGA cams of the Nexus S 4g and the Epic, The Photon I must say is much better, Still VGA - but with some good light it can take a decent photo for a FFC
Most of the specs I've read said it was 1.3...... Interesting. Wonder why they skimpt out.

One can only speculate. Motorola probably thinks a VGA camera is more than sufficient for video chat.

Hi. Is it me or is the camera zoomed in a little by default?...

mine is the exact same way. the camera just plain sucks on the Razr.

"zoomed" is a subjective thing. Different lenses and focal lengths have different appearances of zoom. Few cameras are identical in this area.

Maybe a scratch on the cover or manufacturing defect on the lens itself.

hey i forgot to say i noticed it after i did the update so before the update it worked just fine now i got issues i tried a reset and that did not work so maybe i can go back to before the update and see if that works
My camera is off as well. It used to take decent pictures. Since the first update the camera doesn't focus as well as it used to and the anti-shake seems worse.
Camera settings
Is there a way to reduce the MP's in the camera settings? There are only 2 options (6MP & 8MP) The pictures are just too big and "heavy" to send thru my work email (Outlook).
Thanks for the help!
Ive heard that if you use the camera in widescreen, you don't get the full 8mp, but can't seem to find any details. Anyone know what's up with that?
It crops it to fit the screen. 4:3 is the full 8mp so basically it just cuts the top and bottom off so it fits the screen better and u lose some of the image

That's hysterical. Is it the same for video?
Well I'm not sure but my guess is no. The video isn't at the full resolution of the sensor its either 720p or 1080p in 16:9 aspect ratio. I guess it could do video in 4:3 too for a fuller image but its not really an issue ppl prefer widescreen that's the way it works. The sensors are made for 4:3 max (i believe) so they can't add to it to get more so they have to cut off the top and bottom to make it fit like all phones work. Not a problem with the LTE that's how its supposed to be every smartphone works like that

Hi all,
Is it possible to set the camera to take photos in Wide Mode at 8mp? I only see the option for wide mode at 6mp.
If it is possible please advice how it could be done.
Cheers in advance,
Oliver

I found some info about this here...
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-audio-video/2208-6mp-8mp.html
It claims...
There is no way to get an 8MP wide screen shot on this phone thought the quality is still pretty excellent in 6MP wide screen mode.

If true then it's a shame
I know this is a little late, but hopefully I can help clarify if you haven't already found the answer somewhere else.
8 Megapixels = 3264×2448
6 Megapixels = 3264×1836
So long story short is that when you take a widescreen picture at 6mp you'll have the same quality of an 8mp shot, the only difference is the actual size and shape of the picture (widescreen will chop off some of the top and bottom of the picture).
You'll still be able to zoom in just as far and see just as much detail as in an 8mp shot. I personally like 6mp widescreen because it fits the screen of my S3 perfectly, but to each his own. Hope I helped anybody wondering

Thanks for the tip mate.
I come from a htc one x and I'm sure that could do 8mp in wide screen.
I had hoped it would be possible to change the software to increase the amount of pixels across the width of the pic using some of the pixels you lose from the hight of wide screen pictures.
But I think this is impossible, it just seems a shame having a 8mp camera and only being able to use 6mp as I also prefer wide screen.
Nevermind, the pictures I take are still good and I'm reasonably happy with the results.
Cheers for the reply

nop,also htc are 6mpx wide
I think 12mpx or 10mpx can do 8mpx wide, but definitely not 8mpx

Hey.. I've looked so hopefully its cool that I post about the Tmobile galaxy s 3 front facing camera quality issue... when I aim the cam at myself, the quality looks great until I take the actual picture and then its kinda washed out and looks like its been edited with the smooth option.
Anyone aware of this or find it annoying? I wonder why it reverts to a horrible quality after you snap the pic.
Unedited pic just now

Try taking pictures in well lit room or outdoor sunny pics come out crisp the sensor on the camera dosn't do to well in low light you can try to turn up the iso on in settings but it over saturates the pic in my option . Btw Hyper X has a nice mod that dose improve overall image quality and Video quality on the S3 however i have had very little success trying to get it to work on the US variant past 720p mode in video mode i swapped my phone for I9300 and the mod works perfect. check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691145 hope this helps .
try not expect too much from a 1.9 mp camera sensor
This is not only with the front facing cam, but also with the one on the back.
When I take the picture, it looks great, but when I view it... it's washed out and looks more ugly.
Looking for a fix for this.
YZ.
I think I found it out.
When you enter the camera app, you phone sets the brightness level to 100 %, but when you view it, if your brightness is lower than 100 %, the picture looks washed out.
Try setting the brightness to 100 %.
YZ.
I will recommend use to use Camera360 instead of stock camera app. It has significant improvemance. I have tested many and Camera360 DOES make difference!
Nope.. its the camera.. again, when aiming at myself (front facing) the quality looks great on the screen but when its taken, the quality looks less than vga quality... why does that happen?? I may return the phone

I have the same problem but maybe I am being paranoid I wish more people can submit photos so I can compare :\
Is it just me, or is this front-facing camera like a Game Boy Color's camera?
Don't get me wrong people, I am on my second DNA and absolutely love it (waiting for Cyanogenmod) but this front camera is some garbage.

Quality should be pretty good.
I think the quality from the front facing camera is fantastic. I've been using it with my friends on Snapchat a lot, and the improvement on the Galaxy Nexus is awesome.

I'll say this front facing camera isnt all that as well. Hell, the camera itself doesnt look too good either. I pulled out my rezound and took pictures side by side, flash/no flash, and the dna has a lot more noise and grainy over the rezound. Front and rear camera...
Its been like that since the EVO LTE came out the grainy effect . I actually likev the ffc but it is off putting to see that much its new to me but I see your point I think mods will clean that up like with the EVO hopefully

The issue is probably compression and higher ISO, people said the same thing about the One X until camera mods came out to fix the issues.
I'm considering buying the DNA for my girl for christmas. Any of you mind throwing up front camera pictures so I can compare with my One X and GN2?
Garbage? It shoots decent quality 1080p video and 2.1MP stills. It's better than the iPhone 5's front camera in every respect. What did you expect, a full frame dSLR sensor? Images are extremely better than the front camera on my old Thunderbolt.

I would hope the Italics are true.
I have the DNA as well and can say that the front-facing camera (with good lighting) is excellent. Colors seem a tad bit washed, but that is a very MINOR criticism.
However, I would not go as far as to say it is better than the iPhone 5's. I despise Apple and its stranglehold attitude, but the front-facing camera is not superior.
