RAZR camera - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi. Is it me or is the camera zoomed in a little by default?...
Sent from my XT910 using XDA

mine is the exact same way. the camera just plain sucks on the Razr.

"zoomed" is a subjective thing. Different lenses and focal lengths have different appearances of zoom. Few cameras are identical in this area.

Maybe a scratch on the cover or manufacturing defect on the lens itself.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA

hey i forgot to say i noticed it after i did the update so before the update it worked just fine now i got issues i tried a reset and that did not work so maybe i can go back to before the update and see if that works

My camera is off as well. It used to take decent pictures. Since the first update the camera doesn't focus as well as it used to and the anti-shake seems worse.

Camera settings
Is there a way to reduce the MP's in the camera settings? There are only 2 options (6MP & 8MP) The pictures are just too big and "heavy" to send thru my work email (Outlook).
Thanks for the help!

Photon Camera Issue - Indoors

So I am loving my photon. Have had it since launch day, and the one thing I am less than happy with is the camera performance indoors. Both my epic and evo shift 4g took good pictures indoors, but it seems pretty hit and miss with me and the photon. I cant decide if I should return it and wait for the Galaxy S2 or if maybe they will improve the camera software in an update.
Example as to what I mean with the pictures.
I took a picture, with flash on and settings in auto on my friends atrix, and side by side with my photon. The picture looked more natural on his screen, but on mine, the colors were weird and it wasn't focused very well.
Thoughts?
Only giving my opinion because no one has answered this yet.
I have noticed that the camera is not great indoors. However, one must remember that indoor shots are difficult even with good cameras because of the low light.
But since you are comparing your shots to another phone, all I can say is that hardware is different. Hard to say what is causing it and whether or not the camera on the Atrix is really better.
What I would do if it was me as a first step is to call Motorola and ask them why the camera sucks compared to the Atrix and see what they say. Maybe someone can shed some light on things.
If not, might just have to bite the bullet and buy an app such as Vignette from the Market if you can't get the satisfactory settings on the stock camera app. It might have some set profiles you can use that would make the pictures come out much better. I did see that someone posted taking pictures on the Photon with Vignette produced really good pics but don't know where the shots were taken.
Again, I'm not that knowledgeable on this so these are just suggestions.
I think it's because the flash is less than white. I think it actually gives a more natural picture and looks less like a flash was used. You can edit the photo after you have taken it on the phone. Moto built in some decent editing software in the gallery view.

The Photon actually takes the photo before it finishes focusing causing pics to look really bad. Having played with several Photons, I decided to just use Vignette (from the market) instead. Pics now look outstanding.
My comparisons were done between EVO 4G & MoPho. Hope that helps.
I would say that my HTC Heroc's camera is better then the MoPho which is a big disappointment. It's also worse the the Evo 3D's which I played with for a month. The crappy pictures aren't just indoor, they also aren't very good on clouldy days. Is there a better camera app out there that can take nicer pictures or any roms that have camera tweaks?

Try Vignette from the Market.
sorry bro.....photon....ergggg....all moto devices always have the wroste camera on phones soo :S....you have no lucky to that
I just downloaded the free version of vignette and the photos are much worse than the stock camera. I mean real bad. Is the free version not so good?
Photos colors are way off.
vignette free sucks because it only saves effects in .3mp, however the full version can take forever to process the effects. luckily you can just keep taking pictures and it processes in the background. btw vignette is better than stock.

I downloaded the app after reading the numerous recommendations. Maybe I'm an idiot but I can't figure out how to zoom in and out...seems like every button takes a picture...help?

Vignette only helps so far. What we need is an update from Motorola that addresses the camera issues. But Motorola is silent when it comes to the camera...
I have recently been looking at the photos out of the Nokia N8. If only my MoPho could take images like that!

Our photon comes with really great effects too just press menu then edit than advance
Its the screen resolution of the photon that makes it look different take download the pictures to a computer from both phones and sompare them side by side and you will see that the photon takes a way better pictures, the difference is in the screen,

The problem I have with the default camera app is that on anything but the brightest of sunny days everything looks blurry. Vignette seems to be much better in that regard. At least inside pictures are fairly sharp.
I'm really feeling Camera ZOOM FX right now, pictures are really nice and sharp indoors. The steady shot give you a readout of the accelerometer and wont take the picture unless you've been stead for 0.5 , 1 or 2 seconds. It's $0.10 on the market today and I would strongly recommend it. The only problem is you don't seem to be able to change picture quality settings.
Camera ZOOM FX
+1 just got camera zoom..lovin it.

I use camera zoom since i got my photon the default camera app is really ****ty i guess that the difference should be the way the picture is procesed

I find the Photon camera pretty decent, actually is the best camera I ever had on a phone. For the low light issue thing I would just like to say that it does not take the greatest pic on low light conditions but what actually makes it worse is the Pentile display (and I'm not saying is not a good display like most people), because if you transfer your pictures to your computer you can actually see that the pictures aren't as bad as they seems when you view them in your Photon.
As for camera apps I use Camera360 Ultimate and HDR Camera+
I really don't like camera zoom because you can't save pictures in actual resolutions. (at least when I used I couldn't get them) Maybe they fixed that now.?

Front camera

Does anyone know how to change the resolution of the front facing camera? The options are all greyed out for me. On the 3vo you can adjust the res for the front camera. Our camera application seems to be lacking options...
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App
I think in EVO the front camera is 1.3MP, but our photon front camera is only VGA. Therefore there's no other resolution to adjust.

You're correct, the Evo front facing cam is 1.3 mega pixels. The front facing came on that phone was decent for web sharing and even printing photos. The Photon's VGA cam is pretty much good for mms and video chat. No resolution setting at all.

As with most cell cameras it comes down to the post processing / lens / etc the MP / resolution plays but a factor.
The fact that it had a VGA Cam vs the 1.3 was one hold back I initially had, mostly based off the VGA cams of the Nexus S 4g and the Epic, The Photon I must say is much better, Still VGA - but with some good light it can take a decent photo for a FFC
Most of the specs I've read said it was 1.3...... Interesting. Wonder why they skimpt out.

One can only speculate. Motorola probably thinks a VGA camera is more than sufficient for video chat.

Manual focus would also be good when taking pics up real close. My cam will get in focus but the autofocus adjusts it, and its no longer in focus, this only happens up really close...lmk if you find one.

Yes, but it doesn't work at like 4 inches. But the phone is capable of focusing there, because in the middle of the auto focusing its clear for a second, but when it finally "focuses" its out of focus. All of my smart phones have done that.....also sometimes clear water throws off the autofocus.

Use your finger and focus on the specific item on the screen, have your scene set to auto, that seems to work for me.

And when you do get it focused, it focuses on something else.
So anyone tried camera 360 as yet?
Even with camera 360, on some shots I see it focus perfectly, and then it loses the focus.

Cool app, allows a lot of extra settings(like bracketing, so you can manually create HDR thru pc apps or photoshop, better quality) - but still no manual focus(check instructions here http://www.camera.flavionet.com/tutorials/camera_manual.php)
A cool app, but I for one am still wanting to find an app that allows manual focus while still doing high quality - I don't want an app that only takes lower resolution pictures..

I'm just not sure an app like that exists, based on design (of our camera and its image sensor) it seems that a manually focusing camera app would only be imitating the actual function of manual focus.
This option in fv-5 is the closest I've seen yet, though its not even similiar to true MF
" Infinity. Set the focus to infinity. Tapping on the screen always result in focus confirmation and AF is not triggered."

A manual focus app doesn't exist because, simply, the functions to support it do not exist.
Look on developer.android.com and you will only find autofocus functions for adjusting camera focus, like:
public final void autoFocus (Camera.AutoFocusCallback cb)
public final void cancelAutoFocus ()
public void setAutoFocusMoveCallback (Camera.AutoFocusMoveCallback cb)
Just curious why you would want to use a phone to skating? Invest a couple hundred bucks and make good quality ish.

Probably the only good quality camera they have/can afford. The camera on this phone is better than any digital camera I've bought yet. Lol also, I know after buying this phone, I was broke for awhile. I didn't have an upgrade and bought it out right.
But it is frustrating as hell when I get a picture I want to take, it focuses perfectly on the object, just to auto focus and lose it. Like, ill try and focus on an object, and during the auto focus I see it go clear for a second just to skip over this perfect shot and blur the image instead.

Focusing Issues with Camera on ICS?

I recently installed a ROM based on the OTA ICS update, and it seems like my camera is having difficulty focusing (similar problem I had when I used the Chase app for my OG Droid). It will attempt to focus, at some point during the process will focus properly, goes past the optimal focus point and ends up out of focus.
Thanks
Does this happen when only taking macro shots? I've had this problem since gb and it has something to do with the lighting. The problem isnt constant but it does happen often. I've searched around and it seems like a lot of HTC phones have this.

I just noticed this the other day, I was trying to get a close up shot and it would not focus, so I turned macro on and it still wouldn't focus. I even flashed one of the camera mods, I think 1.5?? and still didn't fix it.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Nope it's out of focus for pretty much any type of shot, no matter where I focus on the screen. (Auto-focus off, Face Detection off, btw).
It seems the problem is depth of field, I think. I don't know the terminology, but I describe it as a scenes with the subject in the foreground and something in the background (e.g. a person standing in front of a mountain backdrop).
If it's a scene like the one described above, it will just kinda focus in-between because it's confused if it should focus on the person or the mountain. If i'm taking a photo of something, say a wallet on a desk, it will do an OK job focusing on the wallet.
...
I just figured out a temporary fix. The focusing issues only occur in 4:3 mode but works just about flawlessly in 16:9.
Just wanted to see if anyone else out there has focus issues in 4:3 mode but not 16:9 mode?
I've had the same issues on all is roms lately. Fix seems to be to just stay away from 4:3 mode :/

Hmm I tried switching back to 16:9 and it does seem to have a better time focusing. Granted that could just be a placebo effect. Any other opinions?

Z2 Front Camera Issue.

I experience a lot of noise when using the front camera on my Z2. If I use the stock camera up the noise seems to get cleared after the picture is taken, however if I use other apps like Snapchat the noise doesn't get removed and it looks like I have taken a picture with a 5 year old phone.
Does anyone else have this issue and is there a way to fix it?
Try cleaning the front camera with cloth?

Z2 camera post-processes picture after you have taken it. They smudge your picture to make it look smooth, as well as brighter if youre on low light. You dont get that "magic" when using 3rd party cameras. Correct me if im wrong.
