I was just searching kickstand case all over the internet, and accidentally found this.

it's only $18 on overstock.
Even though it is more expensive, I prefer and would purchase the Seidio kickstand case over this one (looks more professional IMO). Truth be told though, neither of them are suitable for me. I don't understand why all these kickstand cases have this one giant cutout in the back of the case for the entire camera module instead of just smaller, precise cutouts for the cameras and flash like some of the TPU cases (the smaller cutouts provide way more protection for the phone IMO). First manufacturer to make a case with a kickstand and just precise cutouts for the cameras/flash (instead of just one large cutout) will get my business (though I have a feeling I will be waiting a while for that). Until then, I will continue to use my case from tpu-cases.com, which with the exception of the lack of a kickstand, offers the best value and a good balance between protection and not adding too much bulk (at least IMO).
watch the video full screen hd. I think this's the best quality kickstand case out there IMO. why would you need a small cutouts for camera and ect? it's got G glass back and front, I honestly can't understand what in the world you have to do with the phone to have it all rapt up.
I don't know why people think that just because a phone has gorilla glass that its going to stand up to everyday wear/tear/scratches. I've seen numerous threads where the screens of phones with gorilla glass get scratched up just by putting the phone in the same pocket with keys, change, etc. As to why I want the smaller cutouts, I think its only logical that a case that covers up more of the phone is going to offer better protection than a case that covers less. I'm very careful with my phone (gets dropped maybe once per year if that) so while gorilla glass is a step up from regular glass, its no substitute for a proper case. However, if someone doesn't mind using a case with that large cutout in the back, that's their choice, but its just not my personal preference.
I'll live with my purple Case Logic tri-way kickstand case (offered by sprint). Luckily I can pull off purple because I'm manly, lol.
I like that it is smooth, too, as that helps it slip in and out of my jeans pocket.

Because that is the point of gorilla glass. Gorilla glass has a hardness rating of 7, making it impossible for your keys to scratch it. Quartz/sand are about the only things that people can run into on a normal day that will scratch gorilla glass, I had an epic since launch day and now the EVO 3s and I've never gotten a single scratch on my gorilla glass screen. I've even tried to scratch it with my keys to show co workers that it is scratch proof

WRONG. From Corning's own site: "Gorilla Glass features exceptional damage resistance to the scratches, drops, and bumps of everyday use."
I've seen Gorilla Glass take a pounding and come out unscathed, but I've also seen it scratch easily and also completely shatter upon impact.

I fail to see where the quote from cornings sight says that I'm wrong. Look up gorilla glass test on YouTube and you will see that things like nails and keys won't scratch it. Also, if you drop a phone and lands a certain way is gonna shatter no matter what, I've seen phones fall from 4-6 feet and be fine and also seen a drop from less than a foot break the screen

When have I ever said it is scratch proof? I said it has a hardness rating of 7 so keys shouldn't be scratching gorilla glass, I'm sure if you are absolutely determined to **** the screen up, as you seem to be, then you can.

When did you say it was scratch proof? Why don't you read your first comment in this thread, and then my response to it, where I've quoted you. Now you're backpedaling. It might help to look at it on a regular browser, as I've bolded certain things in them. Just because I've scratched Gorilla Glass with keys, does not mean I'm bound and determined to do it. Stop making such absurd assumptions, it only serves to further discredit yourself. Just stop. I'm simply pointing out that you're spreading misinformation regarding Gorilla Glass.

They do? Looking at SeidioOnline.com for the EVO 3D, the only kickstand case they have is the Surface (with Kickstand), with which the kickstand only looks to support the phone in portrait and on the left side (with the camera button up, and the USB port down).
The only case I've seen that supports the EVO 3D in both landscape orientations is the Body Glove Vibe Slider Case, which is hard plastic and only available in god-awful pink.

Does anyone know where to get some decent quality and decent price screen protectors? The ones at AT&T and Best Buy are wayyyy overpriced.
I never liked screen protectors, but Naked Shield on ebay is about $2 per, and work very well.
The gorilla glass on these SGS phones are fantastic. I still have my Captivate that is now a year old and the glass cleans up like new. Never had a shield of any sort on it. It lived in my pocket unless I was using it. Now it lives in my wifes purse now that I have the GSII
No Need...
There really is no need for any type of screen protector at all! I started using them back with my Captivate for a short period of time. But after the viewing quality was just irritaing be and taking away from that Super AMOLED goodness I ripped it off and never looked back. I have never had an issue with not having one, no scratches or degridation of quality and even a better finger swipe response because there is nothing hindering it or causing that "Stickyness" that some sreen protectors have. So I would ditch the screen protector idea and you wont be sorry. Just keep a nice soft lint free cloth/towel nearby to wipe finger prints and face oils from calling and things will be nothing but beautiful for you! Trust me coming from the Infuse where screen is all that phone was for me...It was very manageable and just awesome!
Waiting for realook to make one for the At&t model. Pretty much unnoticeable and retains the glassy look and feel. Loved it on the Captivate.

Same here...Dumped screen protectors. I took key to the glass in the corner and could not scratch it so I figure with normal use and pocket change it should be fine. My captivate never had a single scratch on the glass. The edges may get a nick or two but its a phone not a work of art. Buy the time I pay for good cases and screen protectors I could sell the phone for $50-75 less than the going rate and still be way ahead in a year.
But "fear sells" and they get a lot of money for a clear piece of "special" plastic. Spend the money on an extra Samsung battery and desk charger....
i used a leftover inspire screen protector. it fits perfectly and flushed cuts off right below the earpiece.
BodyGuardz has come out with their screen protector. I'm not trying to blatantly peddle their product, but I honestly think its important. It really depends on how anal you are about scratches. I'm ok with them on the body/sides but not on the screen. I've used it on my iPhone 3gs and it is still in perfect condition. Also, I there wasnt any loss of quality on my 3gs (no comments for the S II yet).
Gorilla Glass will scratch. Its selling point is that it is less likely to break not that it prevents scratches.
With that said, I bought just a screen protector and not a full body skin.

Its really hard to tell from these pictures but this is the screen from my captivate. It may look like the glass is shattered but actually it is near flawless. Its the lcd that is damaged. The only scratches on the glass are on the top of the screen(the little white lines).
This phone was kinda my test dummy for a handlebar holder on my motorcycle. The first time i dropped it on my bike it fell out of my pocket on the highway at night about 100mph. I felt it fall out but couldnt find it at night. Went back the next day and found the phone and the battery not the back cover. Put the battery in and it turned right on...it rained quite a bit that morning too. The screen was still flawless.
The second time i had the phone in the handlebar holder vertically recording a ride. It fell out after coming down from a small wheelie at maybe 80. I turned around searched for a minute and found it...it was still recording. I have the video. Screen still flawless. This fall was the only time i had a rubber case on. Thats why batt didnt fall out
The last fall was on a highway again at night...i love night rides. I was flying at about 140ish and i felt the phone hit me after falling from the holder i tried to save it to no avail. Looked forever. Went back the next day walked the side and found all the seperate pieces(batt, phone, cover). This time the lcd was broke from the fall. But as you can see the gorilla glass is still like perfect. The few tiny scratches at the top came from this fall...whoopdie doo. The phone still works i was able to use another captivate and simultaneously do the steps to get my busted one in recovery and mount usb to get my info.
Long story short samsung phones frickin rule and so does gorilla glass. I didnt mention the times of other random falls and even throws from frustration and also working construction. I will be buying a new digitalizer for the cappy sometime and keeping that bad boy as a worthy backup.
Am i putting a screen protector on this slick beautiful screen of the sgs2...i think not!

I went with the "UltraTough Clear ScreenGuardz (Wet Apply)." I'm not sure how the dry vs. wet will turn out, but I'm more used to the wet application.
I believe the first two are more for visual and acetic appeal as opposed to shear protection. The last two should provide the best level of protection.

I don't want to start a war, but read this comment from that last video:
"Actually, you never see the tests for Gorilla glass using concrete. Concrete and substances made of a harder material that Gorilla Glass will scratch it, however metal things (like keys) won't. So sand, concrete, tarmac, flint and so on will scratch it, this isn't a dumy phone."
I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it sounds plausible. At the end of the day I would rather use protection that I know (or believe strongly) will work. But I have to agree that Zagg is clearly trying to sell you their product by putting it through a little bit more extreme situation. And the Engadget one is just crazy.

I had one on my captivate for a year. did the trick. I do contractor work and dj at night so screen protectors are in order. Mine should be here thursday.
I like the moshi iVisor AG one that the at&t store has because it covers up the ugly at&t logo. Pretty pricey though...

No it is less likely to scratch as well. That doesn't mean you CAN'T scratch it, but it resists normal usage scratches as well as keys and change in your pocket. You can't compare a Iphone screen to GG. I've yet to see a Iphone screen that hasn't been scratched up from just daily fingertip use. I can see where people are use to using them in the past so they just keep it going. Technology is a wonderful thing and GG is definitely a fantastic technology upgrade.

That comment is just plain stupid. Not yours but the one you quoted. That's like saying a grinder will scratch it and a diamond will if you push hard enough and try really hard. Who in their right mind would purposely rub their phone on concrete or a flint. Dropping your phone on a concrete road isn't a problem. Been there, done that. Skipping it across a parking lot, like a rock in water might. This isn't a black box from a airplane, it's a phone. If you dropped your phone on concrete hard enough to scratch GG, i'm sure it would tear through any protector you can buy and scratch it anyway.
To each his own but this screen if FAR better and scratch resistant than anything currently on the market and massively better than any of the Iphone screens to date.
Hey guys,
Alright, so I just got my skinomi protector. I went for that one over the Moshi, maybe it was a bad choice. I installed it and it's been 2 days since. My screen looks like this now:
{

See those ridges? They're constantly there. I don't notice them when the screen is on, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't bother me when using the device. When off however, they're very noticeable. If you run your finger over the phone you can feel where it indents.
If I take my nail and run it along the screen, it will leave a trace, and it won't "pop back up". My friend has a Ghost Sheild on his Evo (which took this pic) and if I do the same thing, the "scratches" disappear after a few seconds. Is my screen protector bad? or did I do a bad install? Or is the thing supposed to look like this?
I have two more protectors that I can try if this is a bad install.
This was my first wet-install, so I probably did something wrong. I wet my fingers using the solution, and wet the protector (drenched more like it) with it. I didn't spray my screen though. I also took my finger and like, wiped the wet side to make sure it was wet everywhere. Then I just put it on the screen, aligned it a few times (keeping it fully wet though) and once It was perfectly aligned I took the install card and wiped it towards the bottom of the phone, soaking any of the liquid that was released with a napkin. I did that untill I got all the big bubbles out, and most of the water packets. It did have water still, but that dried after a few hours, and all the small micro bubbles went away as well.
Thanks for your help.
that looks horrible bro. I'm pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. The most you should get is maybe a slight orange peel texture like how zaggs screen protectors are. But nothing near that. I would try another one and see how it goes.
Alright, I'll try another. Did you read what I did? Is there anything wrong with that?
Mine is perfectly smooth and I did essentially what you described. I didn't spray the screen either, I figured there was already enough moisture involved to scare me. I did not move the fluid around with my finger and I was pretty anal about trying to squeegee every last drop of fluid out.
So maybe don't put so much on next time and don't mess with it by spreading it around.
It only took overnight for it to dry, which is about half what they say.
The only drawback is that it's a bit "grabby" when swiping across the screen. I really wish PowerSupport would make protectors for this phone. Their crystal clear one for the iPhone is awesome.
Yeah, the liquid dried over night for me as well. I just applied another one to my dad's phone, we both got the same one. So if his comes out ok, I'll order another one for me, if not I'll order two Moshi protectors, and try to get these refunded. I'm sure there's no way it messed up like this during install. I didn't crease it or bend it or fold it at all during install.
wet your finger, wet both sides of the screen and do not press too hard when you get the water out, those ridges look like too many indentations made by the plastic squeegee board...and do not use a credit card!
I have been using Skinomi for years, i install it in the bathroom after letting the place steam for 5 minutes. not one bubble, not one speck of dust and love the membrane feeling - so much better then the hard plastic screen protectors.

I've made sure to have nothing but my phone in my pocket without a screen protector for the past 1.5 weeks. Just three days or so ago I noticed that there was a really really light scratch near the top of the screen, right under the ATT logo. It's hardly visible, you have to angle it a correct way. The glass is really good, but it's not perfect. It -will- scratch eventually. I don't want to take that risk.
I just put a zagg shield on mine just to be on the safe side.
I just applied the second one. It came out a lot better, but I have to wait and see the full results.

Yes, GG is awesome... but you CAN get scratches. My iPhone 4 ended up with 1 really obvious scratch on it just a couple months after I pulled off its InvisibleShield.
InvisibleShield was the first thing I ordered for my GS2.

Misconception #1: Gorilla Glass is resistant to scratches--not invincible.
I developed many light surface scratches already just being in my work pants. No drops and always in its own pocket-not mixed in with anything else.
Iphone also scratched. And so did many of my other devices with GG.
And sorry to be prude but why in the world would you even put those types of screen protector to DEGRADE your screen? Great protection, but kills the slickness and radiance of your screen.

Well, the first one looks terrible casue I installed it in correctly. The second one I installed came out loads better. I feel a slight increase in fiction, but the view is still very good. What screen protector would you recommend for my phone?
Don't Buy Skinomi
So here's my story with this company.
I purchased the Skinomi screen protector for my GS2.
I got it, everything seemed intact, but I noticed they had placed the sticky side to the white card board, but nothing over the front side of the protector.
WELL what happened is during storage or transport or maybe just their crappy distribution company, they front part of the protector bound/adhered to the plastic sleeve they placed it in, almost creating a ripple affect on the protector.. I installed it hoping it'd go away, it never did.
I contacted them, they sent me another one, same issue.
It maybe be a good product, but there ****ty distributing company screwed up on the packaging and ruins the product before the customer receives it.
I used a invisishield , my skinomi didn't seem to hold up as well. But it didn't look like that either.

Honestly, just a good ol fashion crystal clear screen protector. I've seen cheap crystal clear screen protectors withstand drops and scrapes with no scratches. (the video showing its capability to withstand knife cuts is impressive, but unless you're using your phone as a shield that scenario is never going to happen)
Bottom line is that both will protect your screen from scratches but neither will protect it from cracks... so it all boils down to preference

First impression when i was laying it down is that the cut is just as precise as all the other steinheil protectors i've used for the original Evo, Epic 4g, and Asus Transformer. The feel is as close to glass as i've gotten, there is just no way for it to feel like glass without being glass, those that have used dry apply hard screen protectors will know what i mean, very slick but just short of the slickness of a naked screen.
In the first shot here, looking at the edges you can see where its slightly uncovered and there you can tell that there is a very slight difference in color in the sunlight with the screen off:

In this second shot is my old evo without a screen protector in the same spot for comparison:
Comparison shot between the two, note my reflection to see the difference:
These shots are of course just of the screen off, which is no real big deal. What really matters is how it looks with the screen on. I would take some pictures of that, but my camera shows the scan lines and i wouldn't want anyone to think that its the screen protector that is doing it. What i can say is that it is completely clear, with no distortion at all.
Folks that swear by the Invisible Shield HD: bring up a white picture and look at the white parts, if you can't see that there is small bits of rainbow flakes due to refraction through the soft material , then theres no reason to think about the steinheils if the zagg feels fine. For me personally, it was very annoying and i couldn't be rid of it fast enough.
What I do have though are two shots of the screen entirely white:
Scanlines are present, but when you're looking at it with the naked eye even up close, the color remains a pure white.
Given the fit and feel of these screen protectors, i would recommend them over the Invisible Shield HDs, in addition to the fact that you get two protectors for half the price. The Zagg HD is getting close to the dry apply type protectors, but for now my personal preference will always be dry apply, and out of the dry apply ones that i've used: Martin Fields, Clairvue, Seidio and Steinheil, I give these both thumbs way up.
And finally, your mileage may vary

Thank you for your review. How scratch resistant/proof are they? I've tried many dry protectors and they scratched so easily I ended up removing it on my 3D and going without one. Of course, the screen scratched within the first week. I tried the zagg hd and it would get "dents" that would not recover. Have the skinomi full body on now, which seems better, although I just installed it today.

Not sure how scratch resistant they are as i've never gotten a scratch on any of them, I still carry my stuff around as if they had no protectors and i've been lucky with drops and whatnot.
I have put them on my friends' Epic 4g, one of them is a girl and she puts it in her purse with all the other crap and isn't too careful with it in general, few light scratches on hers from the last year.
I should get mine tomorrow hopefully and I don't think these are that scratch resistant. I had one on my Evo 3d and it got scratched easily.... Matter of fact I scratched it when applying the screen protector with a credit card... Which I should never do again
Just got the ultra clear in the mail today, I love it, after you wipe it off after peeling of the front plastic it feels and looks as if there is no screen protector on it, I used 5 or 6 different brands this is by far the best oneI used

How did you screw them up? If its just lint or dust underneath then you can tape trick them and all should be well.

If there are the same tech as when they were released in 2010 for the iphone, there are reports that the oleophobic coating can wear off after some usage. I stuck with the ultra clear since i wipe my phone regularly anyway.

I think the oleophobic is a gimmick for the reason that I hear it wears off not very long after you put it on. If it does wear off then u might as well have the ultra clear. Have it now on my lte and I have no complaints for fingerprints

I hear the Zagg invisibleSHIELD HD is nice. I picked one up from Best Buy. Unfortunately, I tried installing it while on an extended business trip, and messed up the install. Now I'll have to wait to get back to the US to try again.
However, my screen is holding up well. In my pocket most days and not a single scratch on the front or back glass yet (knock on wood).

i just threw this ghost armor clear front and back a few hours before taking these pictures (bubbles showing on the back are supposed to disappear within the next 24-48 hours) and it seems pretty invisible. if you look at it from an angle, any light reflecting off the surface of the film does reveal a slight orange peel texture. now feeling almost as smooth as glass (and i can feel it getting better) and i can't detect any effect on the appearance of the screen (when the screen is on). I'm impressed as I was expecting some kind of distortion with the 318ppi screen.
Last time I bothered using a screen protector on glass was an iphone 3G and it was totally visible and taking away from the appearance of the 163ppi screen. that thing lasted me about a week before i tore it off and never considered using one again even after it was scratched by sand.
I think this film is good stuff.

I recommend it 110%!!!: I have 6 phones (yeah a bit much I know) but the HD InvisiShield is GREAT! I guarantee if you have a couple of fine scratches on it, you wont be able to see them after it is put on there. They are crystal clear too. I traded phones with an XDA I didn't know well and I got a phone with 5 pretty big scratches and one deep key scratch. I cant see any of them now
***** The key is to do what directions say and dont put a case on it for at least 24 hours. When I buy a new phone I immediately go to Best Buy and get one. It may be worth the $7 install if you haven't put them on before. Also when its first installed it will have some bubbles but if you dont mess with it I guarantee they disappear the next day. The difference between the original and HD one is night and day. It dries to a firm surface so it has a glass feel. Trust me on this one guys.
Edit...I installed it myself on my Optimus G and Galaxy Nexus but I screwed one up trying to put it on this big screen so pay the $7 at Best Buy. Actually you can get a bundle and get the HD InvisiShield and a case like the flip cover or Platinum case for $60. If you can find a case under $25.99 its both for $35. Or...you can grab 2 InvisiShields for the $35 bundle price:thumbup::thumbup:
Edit 2..even a grain of sand can scratch your screen. That's why sometimes people put their phone in their empty pocket and mysteriously end up with a tiny scratch

Sand is actually what you have to watch out for. Your keys and other metals that you typically are in contact with daily, not so much.

Nexus 4 glass front and back vs keys, coins, box cutter, wrench scratch test. I put my brand-spanking new Nexus 4 that was just delivered this morning to the test so that you dont have to.
The new Google / LG Nexus 4 has gorilla glass 2 on both front and back. So how scratch resistant is gorilla glass?
My conclusion:
Gorilla glass is much harder than any typical metal you will have laying around. Coins, keys and things you put in your pocket or purse is not going to scratch the glass.
The biggest thing to watch out for? Quartz/sand. Quartz is harder than Gorilla glass and therefore can scratch it (even if the scratches are super fine). Realistically, just like your eye glasses, you will scratch your phone more from cleaning it than using it. The type of cleaning cloth you use is important.
To clean my phone displays, I use the same inexpensive but effective tools that I use for my DSLR camera lenses. 1) a rocket air blower to get rid of tiny dirt, dust particles 2) lens tissue or a clean micro fiber cloth
In case you're interested here are links to the blower and micro fiber cloth I personally use.

I got the ZAGG hd one from best buy on mine and could not be happier...they cost a little more but the differance between it and the cheap ones is like night and day
Zagg Invisishield is Perfect
I always buy Zagg Invisishields for my phones with G.G. I have somehow managed to scratch my phones with just everyday use being thrown in and out my pocket. I dont put it in my pocket with keys or change or anything really my phone always has a dedicated pocket. But still i have managed big and little scratches on my phones. So I like to just keep a Zagg one on just to be sure, plus they will send u a replacement for any reason and they dont argue they just send a new one. The Zagg shield is the best quality and u can barely tell it is on there. Best 25 bucks (full Body) I have spent for this phone.
What is the point of a smartphone maker touting its phones screen as having "gorilla glass" if you still need to apply $10-20 USD worth of tempered glass to actually protect that screen from routine daily use?
Edit: Not bashing the OP6t, best phone I've had yet. Just disappointed at how quickly the gorilla glass has failed it's basic reason for existing.

In the case of cars, the carmaker provides both items and says they are mandatory for the safe use of the car. They *do not* call their airbags "gorilla-bags" and make seat belts an optional accessory.
You don't need to put on a tempered glass.
You know, I've been asking the same question.
The difference between gorilla glass and seat belts is that SEAT BELTS WORK. I'm not even sure how you can compare these two. Air bags are flavor added. Without your seat belt you will be ejected from the car long before your airbags go off.
I think it's pretty damn crystal clear. Seat belts have saved millions of lives. Gorilla glass does not appear to have saved any phones. Phones have become lighter and have better frames, that take impact better.
Gorilla glass MAY keep you from scratching the screen on anything except for stone. Unfortunately basically all phone scratches come from stone (pebbles, stone dust, etc, etc).
If you think anything that I am saying is suspect, why don't you go watch drop/scratch tests for phones across all of the gorilla glass iterations, each one is supposed to be like 1000000x stronger then the previous.
To me "gorilla glass" is just a sales pitch and that's it. I've never found it to be any more durable than regular glass on any phone. They say gorilla glass 1,2,3,4,5,6 stronger each generation...BS. 6 cracks, breaks and scratches just as easy as 1 ever did, and just as easy as plain ole glass.

How did you get it scratched this way? Hardness is pretty good on GG so you need a very hard item to get such a scratch
(I use mine without any screenprotection and I have absolutely no scratch since day one)
Truth is, until screens will be made of glass, they WILL scratch sooner or later. Your screen will come in contact with some sort of material that will scratch sooner or later and gorilla glass won't save you. So you'll always need a screen protector if you want your screen to be perfect over time and as others said, you can't expect glass, as good as it could be, not to scratch.
Gorilla glass sure helps when it comes to dropping phones but even so the fact that your screen will break or not depends on how your phone falls so if you're unlucky it will break even on gorilla glass 9999 because that'll be glass too.
The best way to keep your phone perfect is to take care of it!

I think you meant "as long as screens will be made of glass" and you are right.
To the OP my impression is that Gorilla Glass helps more against falls than against scratches. I think it's more elastic than tempered glass, while tempered glass is harder.
For me the point of tempered glass screen protector is to have scratches being easily correctable by replacing the protector. For obvious reasons, companies cannot sell phones with easily replaceable screens. I understand what you are saying, I've simply learnt to live with it.

Yup that's what I meant, sorry for my bad english :silly: I know people who don't care if their screen gets scratched and they don't use any screen protector but for me it's very important to have a scratch-free screen, I take good care of my phones, especially expensive ones

Not true at all. Each glass is stronger and it shows. You forget as Gorilla glass becomes more resilient, the manufacturers make it thinner. If the 6T used Gorilla glass at the same thickness as Gorilla glass 1 was, it would likely never crack from being dropped. But companies like OnePlus also make the edges curved, adding more weakness wasn't designed for. If you consider that, it is impressive. This is glass not only supposed to be scratch resistant, but fall resistant, and be used in thin devices.

Oh really? You really think Gorilla glass is no better than any other glass? You really think you could use any glass as thin as G6 and it would be as scratch resistant, fall resistant? Its just a global marketing conspiracy that all high end phones use this glass rather than some other glass? It is just marketing?
I know for sure, 6T uses thinner glass that is more durable than previous phones I used in the past. That is impressive to me.
Did not use screen protector with G4 and I won't with G6

Nah dude. It's a song.
Think maybe some think Corning is trying to make the hardest glass.
Far from it. Not even close. They are trying to make glass that can be thinner and be more flexible, used in curved devices while resisting reasonable every day use damages. Glass that can maintain strength from flexion damage our thinner devices suffer as well.
I know plenty of people who have never used screen protector and haven't damaged G4 and above.
My Galaxy S2 with gorilla glass was like a tank. When it died I whipped it across the room and not a scratch. Eventually I removed the battery and sat a chair leg on it and sat on the chair. It finally went crunch but it was the inside screen. The glass itself was still unbroken.
The new Gorilla Glass is known to be more shatter resistant than previous version, BUT that is at the expense of being LESS scratch resistant. It's a glass screen that we carry with us all day every day, we shove it in pockets, bags, cup holders etc. It's going to scratch, that's not going to change anytime soon.
