[Q] Exchange sync problem - only syncs over 3g, not WiFi - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the topic says my HMJ37 P7500XKWG9 will not sync (or even connect) to exchange over wifi.
Using stock email app with Exchange 2010.
As soon as I switch wifi off, sync starts working. This only happens with the stock app, everything else works perfectly fine over both wifi and 3g.
Multiple wipes and resets did not help.
I am thinking this is a bug in samsung software but would like to hear if anyone else has this problem before I start flashing random other firmware versions...

Is your Exchange server on the same network as your wi-fi connetion? Sounds like you have a networking problem.

It's not a networking problem.

You didn't answer my question.
What I mean by networking problem is that if you accessing the Exchange server that is on the same network as wi-fi, the server name/IP address might be different than that of access via 3G/internet. For the email client, 3G or wi-fi shouldn't make any difference. So I doubt it is a software bug. Rather a network configuration issue.

Similar issue
My stock widget is not updating correctly with my WiFi only tab 10.1. We are using '07 exchange and since I updated the Touch Wiz U/I this past weekend my email widget will get stuck on an email. New ones come in but the old ones don't move down to make way for the new ones. If I open the widget the new ones are there, just a PIA to open the widget to see what's new. I'm running stock. Not sure if there is a setting I'm not seeing to have it work the way it did pre Touch Wiz??

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Because if it's accessible on 3G, it's accessible on any wifi properly connected to internet. Besides, no other mail program (touchdown, moxier) has problems on wifi...
Does anyone with this firmware actually have stock exchange sync working on wifi?

I have the exact same problem. Syncs via 3G but not WiFi. When first setting up the Exchange account, I could not get it to even connect to the server via WiFi. After I switched off WiFi and tried 3G, it setup fine.
I have 2 iPhones, one iPad and several PCs on the same wireless network and they all have zero problems so it has to be specific to the 10.1.

Galaxy Tab P7500 XXKG7
The same problem. Few days after purchase I use Exchange (3G, WiFi) and was happy.... but after full reboot and clearing all date, Exchange sync only through 3G. No sync with WiFi.
So now I use two Exchange accounts (corporate and Google) with 3G connection, because no sync with WiFi.
Do you have any ideas?
Different access point, different Exchange servers, correct settings ... but same problem: no sync with WiFi!

No, I am out of ideas. I tested two other email programs - Moxier and Touchdown, both of which work perfectly over WiFi and 3G. So I purchased Touchdown.
I have tested with two different Exchange servers and get the same problem so it cannot be Exchange specific.
It must be a bug in the Honeycomb email software.
I find it very odd because essentially the email client just makes network calls and what sort of network connection is used should be completely transparent to the software.

It was not Honeycomb bug only.... because I find several similar posts on other forums connections with Android 2.2.3, 2.3

Is that right. Pretty fundamental impact on functionality so I would have thought it would get top priority for a hotfix.
OTOH there must be 10.1 owners out there who have it working, otherwise it would be all over the net. Maybe it affects the 3G model only.
Have you tested on more than one WiFi network?

Hi! I solve this problem.
1. took out SIM card
2. Full reset.
3. Insert SIM card again.
Everything works well!
After them come the think, may be enough took out SIM and re-setting. But now I have well good sink Exchange over WiFi and 3G.

Hi!
Did that, and it worked right until I have inserted back the SIM card and activated the 3G settings. Then it also started working only on 3G. Very strange. May be something with operators?

It not a operator problem, I think. I checked 3G Utel Ukraine and EGPRS Beeline Russia. That the same resalts. So I think it is Android 3,1 problem.
Also, about full reset. . . It is not necessary. Took out SIM and restart onle needed.

Right, ashot, but did it work afterwards? For me it stopped when I activated 3G again.

I don't usually like to push or sell apps on people but I would just pay the money and buy Touchdown mostly because its fast, reliable and secure. It works the same way Outlook 2010 works and it keeps you more organized just like outlook. Plus they sync really nice together if your using ActiveSync on your exchange server, which you better be if your a good IT SYS Admin.

I would do it, if there was no preinstalled software. But there is one, and I just want to get it working.
Imagine telling that to an iPad owner.

Pre-installed doesn't always mean good. Example being the iPad. Nothing pre-installed on their is any good and I tell iPad owners that almost daily, sadly.

X7510 Connection Issues

Hi - question for anybody who might know
I have had the HTC X7510 for about 3-4 weeks and I LOVE IT! I am using it on ATT Wireless in the Saint Louis, MO area. We have great HSDPA signal here and it rocks. But, I am having some issues I can't seem to work out. When I am connected to Media Net (I have an unlimited plan) I can for example browse the internet in Opera or connect to my exchange server at work (for email, calendars, etc...), and even google maps. But for some reason I can't seem to get some programs to recognize the connection. Just a couple as an example:
The weather app that came as part of the home screen and Skype.
Both of these work perfectly when I am connected to a WiFi network - they connect perfectly and I can make calls or download the latest weather data.
If anybody has any ideas or has more questions please let me know and thanks again for your help!
Thanks!

[APP][3 May 2010]Windows Live from the Windows Marketplace

Here is the latest Windows Live CAB that I downloaded from the WM Marketplace today (May 3, 2010). I like it cuz it allows you to sync and push your Hotmail email even if you're already pushing Gmail with ActiveSync. In essence, it's like having 2 Exchange accounts. It also gives you the "conversation" style emails in Outlook.
Windows Live never used exchange to sync email, what you say doesnt make sense as you have always been able to use an exchange account with a windows live account. Plus the version on the MP is currently 11.1, this would be a downgrade.
Any changelog?
Even if it doesn't use Exchange to push the Hotmail, it's basically the same thing, so who cares about semantics.
Please kindly state what the full version number of this *.cab file is... I know that the latest one provided in http://wl.windowsmobile.com/ is version 10.7.0061.0500.2000.

There has been some confusion about which version this is. I'm just going to leave it with the date that i downloaded it from the actual Windows Phone Marketplace. If you find a CAB that was downloaded after that date, then it's probably a later version.
Hmm...
Actually, I also have always been able to use Exchange + Hotmail.
Since I got my Windows Phone back in October 2009, I've always had Gmail on Activesync PLUS Hotmail on Windows Live and both were set to Push-mode (As item arrives). Maybe there's another feature they introduced that we haven't discovered?
Have a version for Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (Motorola Q11)? Hugs from Brazil!
Some ROMs don't come with Windows Live or possibly with an older version.
This CAB will allow you to push both Gmail and Hotmail at the same time.
I recently got a windows live/messenger account and now I'd like to use it on my i780 via Wifi (not via Gprs, as that is quite expensive). Could you please tell me if this version can do so? The older ones all seem to be unable to do it. (exept if there was a way to use wifi as a modem)
thanks in advance

Are you asking can you use Windows Live over a Wifi connection? The answer to that is yes.
A cool little feature I noticed is that if you are using a ROM that does not have threaded email conversations, installing this CAB will enable that in Outlook. A nice little addition.

Thanks for your reply, but in my case, it doesn't work. Opera mobile, Outlook mobile and any other program that needs an internet connection are able to use wifi, but windows live insists on using gprs. When I try to log in(with wifi enabled and connected of course), it opens the connection bubble saying that a gprs connection is being started. If I click it away a couple of times, a notice appears that gprs doesn't work...
I already made an empty isp in the connection settings to prevent it from using gprs, but it somehow seems to start ActiveSync on the mobile. There I have no option to change the connection type to use wifi, but only wap gprs or mms etc.
Btw. my mobile is running its original windows mobile 6.0 Pro. Could that have something to do with this?
sorry for writing so much, but I want to make it as easy as possible for you to help me.
Thanks again
Using Wifi to get hotmail seems to be a problem. It always wants to use the cell data connection over wifi if both are available. I know that you can get windows live email through wifi if you turn on wifi and completely turn off the phone radio as if you have no service. But if both are on, I don't know how to make wifi take priority.

After extracting of the exe file, it appear that it build is Windows Live 10, 7, 61, 500 release since 20/04/10, as say aa125690 last version is 10.7.0061.0500.2000; that i propose in my dedicated topic for Microsoft &Windows applications in signature

you could try DataController or Modaco NoData to (temporarily) disable your data connections. That way Windows Live is forced to use wifi
One thread with all official MS apps is not a bad thing, but someone looking specifically for Windows Live will have an easier time finding a thread dedicated to just that.

I'm having the same problem of unable to connect messenger on wifi. Even when I disabled the GPRS connection, Messenger will say that problem connecting to the data connection.
hmm I maybe wrong to intervene and say try using Palringo which has all MSN, Yahoo, Gmail etc (perhaps you are using Live messenger for a reason there) -

Thanks for your tip, you're quite right. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow in the morning.
With windows live etc. I haven't been able to even only take one step further. It still always uses the connection that is chosen at "programs - internet access - network connection". If I deactivate this connection(i.e.with NoData), it simply tries another one and if I stop all connections (or simply turn off the phone part of my mobile), it immediately says that there is no connection available. But it does still not use wifi, although it's turned on all the time. It works via GPRS, by the way, but it's much too expensive.
Expect to hear from me soon
EDIT: I have now tested palingo and I have to admit that it works really good! Also, there were no problems with wifi (of course)

Google maps no longer loads

Hi all,
been using the google maps app that comes with the HD2 a lot, but suddenly it won't load using mobile internet anymore.
It works fine over wifi, but it seems it doesn't want to use my dataplan anymore.
It doesn't matter whether i have 2g, 3g or hdspa connection, it just hangs on 'loading' or 'searching'.
I checked the connection with opera and it works fine, can load any webpage pretty fast.
What can i do to fix it? is there a way to reinstall it? I don't have a cab because it came installed on my HD2.
edit: after a soft reset it won't even load over wifi anymore!
Edit2: hmm, after another soft reset it will load over wifi again but still nothing over mobile connection
get the newest version from here mate, just install and it will delete you're previous version

Same problem here in Rotterdam. Was wondering what could be the problem, but since other people seem to have the same problem, it more than likely is the connection to T-Mobile's network again.....
As is the case with you, WiFi connection allows to start up Google Maps properly, however as soon as mobile network is used, Maps no longer works because of lack of connection to the network....

new version has the same problem
i read online that it may have to do with proxy settings but have not been able to resolve the issue
also, the guy at the t-mobile store was less than usefull (big supprise there)
I just spoke with the t-mobile helpdesk and they are already aware of the problem.
They told me it is a problem with the google server's connectivity and that some ppl can't even synchronise their gmail or other google services (haven't had that problem myself)
They're looking in to it so hopefully it won't take too long

Stock T-Mobile Amaze Wifi and/or E-Mail Issues?

Hey Guys.
I seem to be experiencing strange issues with my T-Mobile Amaze 4G and was wondering if it is only me.
Before I continue, I just wanted to note that I already performed a Hard Reset and received the OTA update a couple of weeks ago with no change in the problem.
It seems that everything seems to work well as soon as I restart the phone...but after a while, I notice that my e-mails do not get refreshed/notified from the e-mail app unless I actually go into the app itself.
I have set the e-mail app to check for new messages every 15 minutes with no peak time defined....that is....it checked every 15 minutes all day any time of the day.
Second issue is with Wifi. It seems flaky and I find I must turn off/on Wifi periodically not matter were I am getting Wifi from (i.e. - Home, Work, Coffee Shop, etc...)
Is it just me having these strange issues?
Is there a fix for it?
Thank All.
I don't have email issues when I am connected to 2G/4G.
I do, however, have issues with WiFi. Specifically the corporate WiFi at my work. It just won't connect. It gets stuck in the authenticating/disconnecting loop. Very annoying as this is the only phone I have not been able to connect to the WiFi at work. All of my prior phones connected with no problems, e.g. Motorola Photon, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Touch Pro II (Sprint and T-Mobile versions), iPhone 3/3GS/4. All of them will connect but my Amaze won't.
Is this par for the course or could I have a bad Amaze, again? I am on my 2nd one by the way. The first one had the same auth/disco loop problem, too.
My WiFi connects at work when it feels like it, which isn't often. At home its just fine.
I have the same thing happen to me as well between Home and Work Wifi.
It would seem that Corporate Wifi systems usually require the "Use secure credentials" to be enabled in order to connect (Settings, Security, Use secure credentials).
If it isn't checked...then no Corporate Wifi will connect.
It would seem that HTC released an update for the Amaze today (Dec. 12).
I have updated my phone...we'll see if it works any better.
Wish me luck...
Apparently HTC is rolling out an OTA that includes WiFi calling: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1319
Not sure if it's T-Mobile USA only or not...
Thought I'd post my observations...
My wi-fi at home (wpa2 personal) works flawlessly. Wi-fi at work (wpa2 enterprise) is able to connect and works great but after 40-50 minutes gets stuck in the authentication loop for unknown reasons. While in this auth loop, it seems to be in a transition state - neither wifi or TMO data mode and no synching occurs. Turning wifi off then back on will resolve but is a pita.
However, once the enterprise wifi is enabled (using credentials) the advanced power menu stops working - the long press of the power button functionality. Clearing the credentials usually re-enables the power button long press functionality, sometimes this requires a battery pull to restart.
Even with these small (at least for me) inconveniences, the Amaze is the best phone I've ever had!

Do you connect using WPA2 Enterprise at work? If so, are you able to enable Wi-Fi Calling?
I called 611 and they were not much help. Only thing came out of that call was maybe the WPA2 Enterprise enforces additional security for UMA (WiFi) calls resulting with REG99 error for me. I'll try from home with the WPA2 Personal connection later.
I'm reading TmoNews and it says IMS WiFi calling. 611 told me UMA...
Tried the WiFi calling from home (WPA2 Personal) and it works great. The router at work must be causing the REG99.
we're on a WEP network at work and at home so not sure why home works but not work. It may have to do with the firewalls and all that, but I'm not sure.
I ran into the same problem with email syncing. Here's a work around...
Use "tasker" and get the plugin for it called
"Synker"
Make a repeating profile that links to Synker and voila. You can control when and how often it syncs...

My WiFi performance stinks with this phone. I just got the 1.43 update today and it's not any better. With my old Nexus One I didn't have problems, but when connected at home (shown as WPA/WPA2 PSK) I get lots of time out errors and just about every action in the Market loads very slowly. When it finally does start a download they go OK but getting opening an app page or getting a download to start takes a long time. It is very weird.
I'm running stock.

I don't think it's the phone. I run stock and average 6-11Mbps down and 7-8Mbps up with my WPA2 Personal router connection.
I'm having data connectivity issues on the corporate Wifi (enterprise 802.1x encryption). I can connect initially, but after about 10 minutes (sometimes as much as 30 minutes), I'll lose data functionality but the wifi stays connected. My old Vibrant works fine at work, but the Amaze drops the data. It seems to happen when I switch access points. My sign-on credentials are fine. I can't seem to find any other similar issues out there and support was no help (t-mo, htc, etc). A factory reset didn't change anything. My home wi-fi works fine so this issue is a bit frustrating. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm feeling quite alone on this issue unfortunately....love the phone otherwise. I'm running stock.
I'm having the same problem with the router at my work. It will say connected but not data is sent or received. Any other phone works just fine on the same router. My amaze works just fine on any other router. I've disabled all security access on the router at work and the only phone that seems unable to connect to this router is the amaze. (I've tried 2 other w/the same result)

I have been using Beast mod for 3 days now and email has not been syncing, along with facebook and twitter. the sync icon has been on for a few days but nothing is syncing properly. Could it be something to do with a custom kernel?
Just to throw my 2cents in, I was struggling with connecting to the wifi at home, it would connect ok but then never transmit any data. Everything else connected and worked fine, also connected to other routers with the phone and no issues. Long story short, I limited my router to just B and G (no N) and it fixed everything. Phone works great now.

Email client not syncing over 3G, only works over wifi.

Hi,
I search over the forum but didn't find the answer to my question.
I'm the happy owner of a GS3 stock rom, not rooted, fresh out of the box.
It works verry well. I'm impressed by the device itself but I struggle with a problem.
My exchange account won't syncronize over 3G. Every few minutes, I get a message saying "unable to connect to [my account]"
gmail client works just fine but I have two email addresses (pro and home).
This is not a connectivity issue as other apps works great aover 3G and this is not a network limitation as I can connect thru other wifi networks.
I can do all necessary test and I had a look in all settings I can find without any succes until now.
I had 3 FW update since I own the device, each time I hope it will solve my probelm...
Thanks for your help.
Best regards from Belgium,
JC

I checked and I can find any exceptions (I can't find the options, to be clear). Under the Data Usage, I have mobile data and Wifi pages but I don't find any way to manage exceptions.
There is a similar issue with the hotmail app - SSL auth error on 3G - Fine on Wi-Fi
The way to resolve that issue is to uninstall the app - remove any accounts associated to it (the hotmail sync account removed authomatically) reboot the phone - then set everything back up BUT DO SO ON 3G and not Wi-Fi!!! For some strange reason this sorts out the issue and can then connect on both 3G and Wi-Fi.
This is obviously specific to the hotmail app - but as this is also email it may also resolve your issue - Worth a shot at least. .Good Luck

How can I uninstall the stock email app? I will try to clear my account but not uninstall the app and see if it solves my problem. I will try it tonight when I will be back in my country and not in roamuing anymore.
Thanks
I don't use the stock app at all - I guess you can remove the associated accounts under settings/accounts then go to app manager and clear cache and data.
My issue was due to a self signing certificate or something - guess that a hidden setting somewhere changes when you accept but wasn't working correctly when setting up accounts over Wi-Fi.
Hope it works for you. You not the option to get a specific mail provide app from the playstore? - Could be another option
I will let you know
I'm quite happy with the stock mail app for now. If I can solve my problem by reseting my account over 3G, I will keep it.

I resolved this issue by:
- deleting the Exchange Active Sync eMail Account I set up over WiFi (Email->Settings->Delete Account);
- created an EAS Account over 3G, selected "Accept every SSL Certificate" (Email->Settings->Add Account).
It seems that creating an EAS Account over WiFi prevents the same account to access the server over 3G/EDGE/... connection.
Tried on Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP321, default mail app, with Android 4.2.2.

Hi,
I have also an Galaxy S5 Android and sinds we have Exchange 2010, it does not synchronize any more. If I put my phone on SAVE MODE, it doesn't work. If I DISABLE the SAVE MODE it works.
Go to Setting => Power saving => put Power saving mode OFF
good luck.

Hi,
I search over the forum but didn't find the answer to my question.
Best regards from Belgium,
JC
