Is it possible to use ICS with wifi connection instead of cellular connection? Would be useful for a makeshift wireless adapter if your regular NIC or wireless NIC fails.
It seems that even if I have a wifi connection already going and then I launch ICS and connect, it still tries to dial out and use the cellular connection. You would think if it can share cellular data it could share wifi data just as easily but maybe im missing something.
Back in the early days of WiFi internet sharing the private interface was changed to WiFi with a manual registry edit. It might be possible to change the public interface to USB instead of defaulting too the cellular radio. It would probably take a fair amount of troubleshooting, but I'd think it would be possible. I think the entries were at HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing. Might be a starting point...

WiFiRouter
WiFiRouter works by making your ppc into a virtual access point. Then you can share the internet through it.
Last time I looked however, the author had withdrawn the program from circulation at version 0.91. There must be some problems with it because the author indicated that he would release a new version once he ironed out some bugs. If it is not back in distribution yet, you might be still able to find it on a torrent site. If not, PM me and I will send you the cab. Some of the cab collections at ppcgeeks ftp have it inside too. One good collection to check is Alex's.
I have used it and it works.

wmwifirouter is not what he's looking for. That is still using your phones internet. He wants to see how he could use the phone as a Network card, using the wifi connection, as oppossed to the sprintpcs connection.
I too would be very interested in this happening, if anyone knows of a way please tell.
ok, but why ??
Why would you actually want to do this anyway ??? I will look into it but it makes no sense when a USB WiFi dongle is $30 or so and does not run your phone down to use it, why would you want to use your phone as a very expensive USB WiFi card ??? Maybe I am missing some golden benefit ????
I dont get it either, but he did say in an emergency if your wifi went out.
Thank you for the responses.
Yes, it would be useful if your wireless nic went out (or regular nic for that matter) just to have something to use for the moment. Or maybe you brought your computer to a friends house and hes out of ports or you dont want to run 50ft cable to his kitchen table
But the titan has wireless, it has internet sharing, why doesnt the wireless show up in the list of available networks? I'm not saying its an all important feature but it would be yet another cool thing your phone could do.
i looking to use my mogul as a wifi access point (sharing Spint Vision thru wifi)
i tryed the procedure to mod the registry to enable it but i cant get it to work.
anyone know the exact procedure for the mogul
btw i also checked out WMWifiRouter...looks like it's no longer free
I also wanna know
Look the idea is simple. So where is the phone ICS telling it to use the celluar line and not allowing the option of the wifi?
Pls any one contact me. Its a cool feature for a phone

I bought software called Walking Hotspot, which essentially turns my Mogul/Titan into something like a Mifi, sharing my cellular data with my laptop. Otherwise known as tethering.
I only use it for emergencies because I am not sure if Sprint can tell that I am tethering. I believe if Sprint detects unauthorized tethering they will charge 4 cents per kilobyte of data .. which is very harsh!

I am seriously frustrated here:
I have an Ameo 16 GB (T-Mobile UK) and for the 1st couple of weeks remote desktop was working fine, then suddenly it stopped working.
I thought I broke the settings somewhere, so I double-checked everything. The T-Mobile Ameo comes with the default T-Mobile Internet connection pre-configured. It actually states "This connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified."
The default settings are programs that auto connect to the Net should connect using the default T-Mobile Internet connection, and programs that auto-connect to a private network should use "My Work Network".
"My Work Network" has no values set anywhere.
Normal Internet access is fine in either IE or Opera (branded by T-Mobile as Web'n'Walk).
I have changed so programs that auto-connect to private network use T-Mobile Internet connection, same result as before.
I have set up a custom Internet connection for "My Work Network" using "general.t-mobile.uk" as access point, "user" as username, "pass" as password and domain left blank. I can connect to the Internet with these settings, but not via Remote Desktop.
Sometimes, normally after having re-booted the Amea and manually connected to "My Work Network" (as per settings above) I can connect, but it drops the connection while I'm still typing in username and password.
Normally I get either of these error messages when trying to connect via Remote Desktop:
"Cannot connect. Likely reasons are:
1) Specified computer name or ip does not exist.
2) A network error occurred while establishing the connection"
or
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings".
I have cleared storage memory on the Ameo five times. I have phoned T-Mobile tech support who basically told me to sod off - apparently as long as the device can browse the Net they've done their job!
I have had T-Mobile replace the device and this morning I received a brand-spanking-new Ameo. I fired it up, let it go through the customisations, and reboot, then I tried Remote Desktop without changing anything or installing anything. And I got the same as above!!!!!
Please, guys, I'm desperate! Any help is very welcome here! I do network support for a living and I got the Ameo because I can fit a server's entire screen in and have a seperate keyboard. Except now I can't use it!
I used to have a Universal, which I sold to help finance the Ameo, so I'm truly stuck!
Oh how I wish I could unlock the damn thing and flash a better ROM to it!
Just as an update, yes, I've tried using "My ISP" as well, with the same results. And yes, everything's just peachy on the servers I need to connect to - I can connect to those servers using other devices.
And no, using Logmein is NOT an option and please don't even mention any form of VNC - you have to be seriously foolish to run VNC on a server, you might as well pay for some banner ads that say "Come hack me!"
Please don't give me advice on setting up routers, or Remote Desktop on 2000 Server, Server 2003 or Server 2008. I can do those quite well.
What I cannot do is get my damn Ameo to connect and stay connected and I'm absolutely desperate for help there!
the same
my ameo on t-mobile has done same thing, stopped working about 2 weeks ago, was working fine till then, only reason i bought the damn thing (anmd yes, i too ebayed my exec, i regretting it
so anyone out there got any ideas? i have same problem using ICS so i am guessing either a network etting on the phone, or some idiot at t has closed rdp traffic (tried chanmging a port number to 80 on a test box behind my router, still no go)
What is the operating system on the target pc first off. as i had that problem with a hack fix on vista home premium
all i had to do was to re-apply the fix.
as far as remote desktop the Ameo 8gb model ( x7500) didn't have rdp on it so i used one of the ones from this forum but under another section ( i think it was networking but do s earch to find them )
needless to say mine has never stopped working
a good test is try it from your local wireless home network if it's a home pc, and if ti works then look at the forwards on your router, make sure 3398 is still forwarding to YOUR pc and that your pc still has the same IP.
if you have a static ip and no router. always check your firewall settings.
as far as other possibles if your internet is working and all other data connections then there's no reason it SHOULDN'T work as t-mobile do not filter out 3389 port.
it has to be a problem at the target machine or network in that case.
but feel free to tell us more about the target pc and how it's connected to the internet and maybe we can find a solution
also what RDP client are you using on your Ameo
Cyberjak, the target machines vary: Server 2003 Enterprise Edition running ISA Server 2006, and Server 2008.
RRAS is installed on the non-ISA servers, while ISA of course takes over where RRAS left off. In all cases ports 3389 (TC{P & UDP) is open for inbound access, and on the ISA box it is open for in and outbound access.
Had you read what I wrote in my second post you would have seen I need no help in setting up RDP. I build, support and maintain networks for a living and trust me when I say the issue is NOT with the remote servers, but with the Ameo! I can use a collegue's O2 Touch Diamond and connect to any of the servers, but not the Ameo 16 GB.
I'm using a default T-Mobile Windows Mobile 6.1 setup as my Ameo has never been unlocked or flashed, and I'm using the stock standard Remote Desktop client that came pre-loaded and that used to work.
The issue is either with the Ameo, or with T-Mobile blocking RDP.

Why can't you do this? Is your phone owned by the company and they would frown if you modified it? AP4 includes Remote Desktop Mobile, so you might try that ROM if you do unlock.
My device is a 7510 and Olipro's unlocker doesn't work on it. I have been explicitly told that the unlocker might brick it
Hallelujah! The age of miracles is upon us!
I've put in a complaint to T-Mobile, and out of the blue Remote Desktop started working, while I also received an e-mail from T-Mobile's tech support.
Here's an extract from the e-mail:
"I have came across someone else with this problem and we are trying a temporary fix by adding a update to your account which is on now, so if you could retry the connection and let me know how you get on"
My translation of the message: We screwed up by choking RDP to save bandwidth across our network, you (and presumably others) caught us out, so now we'll pretend we're the good guys and that we've discovered something wrong and we'll fix it, but don't expect us to say sorry!
I will give T-Mobile a ring today and see, I guessed it would be t-mobile as I ave a whole range of different RDP servers I connect to and none worked!
lol, T-Mobile took all of about 2 minutes to enable my RDP again, told them I knew it was there prob as I read on XDA-Developers, got to love the internet nice one NanoRuler

Just realised what T-Mobile said in their e-mail "I have came across someone else with this problem" - was that you? That WOULD be funny!
Way I look at it if we don't stick together we'll get shafted by big corporations!
Used to know a guy who had something printed on the reverse of some of his business cards. It read "Doing business with your firm is like having sex: it gives one a feeling of warm bliss.....while being screwed!"
Thanks to T-Mobile I know what that feels like! Having said that I'll also categorically state the last guy I dealt with at T-Mobile knows his stuff and was very helpful.
Curious, it does lead to believe something about the ports being like group policy's that they use as the voice over ip ports only are open for WnW Max customers usually unless you scream at them after being with them for a long time. heheh
Nano, no offence mate but i've been doing similar work for years as well but it's sometimes the simple things so you can understand me asking.
you would ask a client the same thing.

A possible solution for those of us on T-Mobile's standard web n walk
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I thought I'd post my experiences here in case anyone else (like me) searches for a solution to enabling RDP on T-Mobile (UK at least).
I was having the same problem with remote desktop, it saying that the server was not available. I phoned up T-Mobile's helpdesk as recommended here and after getting past first line support (who didn't know what remote desktop was, and tried sending new connection settings to my phone to resolve the issue) I got through to someone who knew what they were talking about. Turns out that I'm on T-Mobile's "basic" or "handset-only" web-n-walk package, and it's not possible to use RDP on this. I assume they block the relevant ports. They told me that I could pay an extra fiver a month to upgrade to a version of web-n-walk which can handle RDP.
Well I told them I would think about it, but instead tried to find a way around it as the one or two times I need to use RDP are certainly not worth a fiver a month. My solution is probably only suitable for the more techy of us, but without much work and with no prior experience I managed to set up a SSH tunnel using FreeSSHd as a server running on my windows server (although a normal windows box should work fine - http://www.freesshd.com/) and zaTunnel as a client on my phone (http://www.zatelnet.com/zatunnel/main.php). Both programs are free.
Basically my phone takes all RDP connections and tunnels them over SSH to my windows server, which then turns them back into RDP connections. T-Mobile have no idea I'm using RDP, and if they block the SSH port in the future I can always change FreeSSHd to run on port 80 (for web). This will also work for other protocols T-Mobile might be blocking (FTP springs to mind).
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was in my situation of needing RDP on their standard web'n'walk.
Cool! Thanks for posting your rather excellent work-around! I will certainly be referring people back to your solution.
I think T-Mobile's out of order for not allowing RDP on all plans, without absolutely clearly stating that on some plans it isn't allowed.
You're the customer and you pay for some bandwidth. Short of illegal activities, what you use that bandwidth for is none of their business.
T-Mobile Grrrr
Many Thanks for this thread.
My Remote Desktop stopped working on my phone last month but co-incidently it was around the time I was re-intsalling my server and also flashing numerous roms to my phone so thought it maybe something with that.
But then realised I could remote desktop over my wireless at home and from other networks across the net so it wasn't anything to do with config on my side. Thought either phone or network.
Flashed a rom with remote desktop that i KNEW worked and still nothing...
Thought - this MUST be T-Mobile... glad I'm not the only one.
Have sent an email and hopefully they'll enable Remote Desktop on my line.
There is no way I'm gonna start paying an extra £5 a month for something I've been using for the last 20 months as part of my package and have removed wihtout any notice/warning.
i'll tell 'em where to shove their £5 extra a month
This really really pi##es me off, as where I live I get 1x data, & usually use my home wireless (wifi).
Recieved the pro, and activated it. It seems disabled by being activated by alltel. I even stumped the blackberry adept person at the local store enough that they switched out the phone, I walked to next door (motel) used the free wireless (to prove the wireless would even function) then let him activate it and headed home (30+ miles into the wilderness). got home and again I cant get Crap wifi to work.
Home is wireless b, it connects, can be seen on the 'simple' 2 wire wireless appliance but the PRO, will not see or try to send data through it. turned off security and everything on the wireless for testing. I can check, but I know the pass for the motel, and I could try again, but am definitely sure that this AINT the issue--> again the phone wouldnt connect at the motel (least not the pre exchanged one) with me or the rep at Altel either, while it was activated and on alltel.
who to call? Any help out there?
my 6800 will still wifi, at anyplace there is a signal and that I know the passcodes or is open.
yes I asked this, at alltel-howard forums, but would think you guys here know more (on second thought, when I remembered about all the stuff you do here, I know I probably should've posted here 1st, but Im kinda mad at the moment!)
Pretty adept at computers, I do IS as my real job, anything I can do to help trouble shoot? yeah the 6800 has been flashed & I even noobed around with cooking a few time. appreciate any help you guys
i Have a touch pro and a touch diamond, both under 2 weeks old and the wifi works fine with both of them, maybe you should try a custom rom and see if they changes anything. but there is no reason it shouldnt work with the stock rom

goony,
Is it an Alltel? are you positive that wifi is working, not the "data" connection with alltel towers (cell call)? My proof is that if I goto my basment, I have no cell service so not any data connction, ONLY WIFI (that is where my wireless router is. that is when I found out the 1st time. Everything else looks right, on the phone it says it is connected, on the router I can see it on the connected devices list.
I have my issue that I believe, that it is some setting that Alltel is setting... like I said the phone would connect via wifi until the phone activated. When I activated (full unlimited data package is on this phone) the phone fully rebooted on its own, 3 times as if getting updated via data plan. Im not talking about the 1st time turn on customizations, those were done before I tested the wifi at the motel lobby... For instance, the volume control buttons - the display app were obviously modified, I am not positive what else was.
I'd LOVE to try custom rom, if I wasnt right in the period of time I can get my money back, or not. after that I will...
yes they are alltel, and to test the wifi i just connected it to my router and then turned of my alltel data and it stayed connected so i am positive the wifi works. you can still use a custom rom under your return period, if you want to return just relock it.
I wanted to double check myself sting to make sure i was realy getting wifi, so i connected and went to speedtest.net and did a speed test and sure enough it showed my isp as roadrunner(my home provider). Have you had this problem with multiple phones? are you checking the internet option when it connects? and do you have it diconnected from the pc? my wifi wont work on my diamond hooked to a pc.
Has nothing to do with alltel. Maybe with the rom or the phone. Now I hope you're not waiting for a pop up to show itself on the main screen asking if you want to connect because you could wait forever. Go to comm manager enable wifi/ go to start->settings->connections->wifi and make sure options are set to "all available." If you can even see wireless networks on the list, the wifi is functioning correctly and there is a router settings conflict. If you don't see networks on that list in wifi, then there is a rom/hardware problem.

Hey thanks!
But, it is the Stock shipped rom, I have my HTC 6800 right next to this one, connected and surfing the web, both show up when in the home WIFI router config as connected, yet the pro sends NO DATA to ie or opera, (cant locate any webpages) or any app that uses internet/data.Unless there is something I need to do with PRO that I never had to do with the 6800 (mogul) that I just flashed back to stock shipped rom, ready to sell on ebay...
what I dont know is, well, most of the people wifi to tether a laptop or something, I dont! Sure that will be neat in the future, but RIGHT NOW, Just I use WIFI when I am at home and dont even have signal or evdo near me... (remote locations that I live, the tower coverage sucks out here in ks...) Got to fix this soon, or this Beyotch is going back to alltel.
Another thing, this bad boy pulled this crap, as soon as alltel activated the device (so I could use it as my phone!) when it was NOT activated, the wifi worked (proven at the motel next door to the Alltel store I exchanged this phone). BTW, I was able to test it on the 1st phone shipped to me, while it was activated, it pulled the same thing, when he unactivated the phone, we could almost pickup the wifi from the motel next door (distance was the only issue I think now looking back) but seemed like a chip problem.
Where I got screwed was we believed the wifi to be bad on the 1st phone. So he got out a new phone, and before we activated it, I went and tested the wifi, it worked on the 2nd phone. I thought wall was fine, it worked. then I had him activate it, assuming that proved I will be able to use the wifi. So I leave the store thinking OK wifi works. I get home, and again unable to use my home networking wifi to open web or apps. unacceptable. Yet the 6800 does and still works flawlessly (as long as you slide the wifi sider on side to on {inside joke}).
follw me better now?
What brand router do you have? How many devices are wireless? And it connects to other locations but are you sending and recieving data? Try this link http://www.wmwifirouter.com/trial/ and install on 6800 if you are not normally around hotspots. This will test the t-pro's ability to send and recieve information via wifi. Now it is sounding like an IP address conflict.

Sweeny, Im in the houshold router (made by 2wire) I can see it (the Pro as well as the 6800) each get an ip. (I work In IT, so I know what you are talking about in ip conflicts, all that.) I have even set the router to manually setup IPs now, then set the ip inside the Pro, as well as the default gateway, dns all that.) I'm telling ya, it is more like it doesnt know the DNS or the gateway (just like I disable internet surfing on the computers at work that I still must use networking)
I copied the DNS and everything from a working laptop (ipconfig -all) on a wireless laptop today, and still as if it was disabled.
This weekend i will test the dang thing tethering with my notebook i'll bring home from work (use the pro as the internet access). if it wont tether either, then I think allHell is doing something. Again if the device is DE-Activated I will wifi... {I'll bet you $$}. I might call alltel, tomarrow night, and try that. I'll have them inactivate it and if it suddenly works, then the question is, what do I do with alltel? they dont have the right to disable hotspot usage do they?
I feel I feel the presence of VERIZON already in Alltel, Luke is turning to the dark side. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
You all thought I was off my crock...
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/2073117/Touch+Pro+WiFi?t=anon lots of folks posting same problems it looks like.
Need that group of people who can create a kitchen, and hcak tomtoms, to help us with this PLEASE!
No I don't, think you're off your crock I just know how frustrating problems like this can be. Here is what I suggest you do. And if this doesn't work exchange the phone or try a different router. I know what you're thinking....not the router. Truth is might be. Its just like wireless adapters in wii's and ps3's they simply will not work with a handfull of routers even though not clearly documented.
Anyway, change router to static Ip's, safer anyway.
Specifiy gateway, primary and secondary dns, and limit your ip's within 100 available obtainables. Use a 64 bit wep encryption. Change the channel of your router's broadcast to 1 or 11. Use only simple gateway ip range, not pure server. If you need me to provide you with example settings then pm me because I do not want to broadcast them via forum
Good luck.
Dont take this the wrong way....but are you positive that you are disabling the DATA Connection in Comm Manager?
I have had the alltel touch pro since the second they hit the store. I have used 3 of them since and they all work perfectly on wifi. I primarily use wifi and use diamond tweak to activate the wifi standby so wifi stays connected in standby like data does by default and use modaco nodata to disable data as I live in a house that gets a very lowsignal from the tower and eats my battery superfast if I use data. I have a router in the house and one in my office detached from my home and when I had my mogul it often would not switch between routers successfully requiring me to manually connect more often than not. All the Touch Pros connect superfast and switch automatically. I am running mightyrom 4.12 and telus radio which is light years better than stock with signal, speed and batterylife, but even when I was on stock for about 3 months there were absolutely no wifi issues.

Not sure which of us you are asking this queston of...
Thanks, for the help so far...
I was having the same issue (Alltel and all).
I found this post in the MS forums:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/561f18a8-5f64-4359-957e-adb003229f1d
Essentially, it says to "Navigate to START/SETTINGS/Connections Tab/Connections icon/Advanced Tab
Press Select Networks Button
At the top it says "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:"
You want to press on the drop down and choose My Work Network"
You need to tell the system that the Work Network connects to the internet as well. While this doesn't seem like the ideal solution (there should be a faster way to switch it, or it should do it automatically depending on location), it did work for me. I'm sure there's a much more sleek solution out there, though.
Btw... I hope I'm posting this correctly. I'm more a reader than a poster.
Ooop... one more thing. Its non-sleekatude rests with the fact that when you want to switch between wifi and your data plan, you have to go through the whole process, and switch the active network from My Work Network to Alltell Wireless. This is where I was hoping for a better solution. As I say, it does work, but it seems like it should involve less hassle.
Might add this to the WIKI, I dunno but there could be a few more thousand users out there on ATT or SWB using the modem/routers that they shipped when you got DSL more than a year ago...
Everyone that has the older 2 wire brand, wifi modem/router that came with SBC (now ATT). Wierd I know. But Mine has just been replaced by the newer version of that modem/router. and I will be dammed, it works. but the phone wont work with the older ones. Mine was the 2WIRE 1000hw model. they are shipping new models, and finally the phone will work with the wifi on that new router.
Thought it might be nice to know...
alltel model uses wifi just fine
My TP from alltel works just fine with wi-fi all i ever do is turn it on and then select which connection i want to make ...really quite nice...maybe you need to exchange yours...
On further testing of my own setup, I'm thinking my issue was the router. I had done several fixes all at once, and cited the wrong fix as the working one. I happened to reset my router at the same time I did the above suggested fix.
I thought it had to be the device, as my HTC Apache never had an issue with the router, but after resetting the router, and going back to the original settings on the TP, I'm having no problems connecting to the network. I wish I could pinpoint the exact conflict between the two, but now that I have it working, I'm not messing with it.
My suggestion is to back up your router settings, reset the router, and see what happens. Or test your wifi on someone else's network.
Isolating a network conflict can be one of the least fun things to do, but from everything I've seen here and in other forums (and my experience with it) I'm going to say that's the issue, and not the TP alone.
I don't think it likes your router being wireless B, you should try it on a wireless G router before Ebaying it.
Hi all,
I got problem with internet connection on my HD2 (ROM 1.48). There are 2 ways I connect to the internet - WIFI and GPRS. GPRS connection works fine - I can download and read e-mails, make backups with MyPhone, update weather information, etc. But when I connect to the internet with WIFI, there are only 2 things I can do. I can browse web pages with Opera and update Twitter messages. But I can´t download e-mails, make backups, update weather information, etc. When I try to update or backup something, there is connection error (through that connection between phone and router is fine and web pages are running).
It seems to me like most of applications want to connect to internet via GPRS only. Is there any way to set up (or check) the phone to connect to the internet via WIFI when it is turned on?
Thanks for any advice
Sorry cant help but agree - it would be fantastic if there was some way of knowing / controlling when it used GPRS data and when it uses wifi. When wifi availabe obviously would rather use that than be charge a small firtune for data.
Any one out there about to help with this??
Internet browsing
Ditto. I can - after HUGE effort - connect WiFi but I cannot browse the internet using either Opera or IE. 2 year old Nokia connected and browsed literally within 2 secs! Also, the phone keeps connecting via GPRS all the time even with data connections off. Can anyone help? Thanks PS I know it's unproductive & forgive me, but I have to get this off my chest: this is the worst cellphone I've ever owned. Bluetooth doesn't work, internet doesn't work, handsfree car kit doesn't work. Does anything work?

correction, YOUR Bluetooth doesn't work, YOUR internet doesn't work, YOUR handsfree car kit doesn't work.
Get it exchanged. (if they genuinely dont work)
@others, go to settings menu all settings connection connections advanced select networks.
there are two dropdowns, in teh top one should be the name of your mobile data, , this is what automatic progs will use to connect to the web, in teh bottom one it should be 'the internet' (or sometimes 'my work network'), meaning they use wifi if available, and data if not.
(At least thats how they should work....)
If you set the top one the same as teh bottom one, nothing should try to use mobile unless wifi is not connected.
Could be a proxy problem? some operators set up a proxy, which can screw with connections.
samsamuel: Thank you for your advice. I´ve tried it - in both dropdowns I got "my work network", but no success.
I´ve found something interessting. When I turn on YouTube client (using WIFI), I can´t play videos. That should be ok when I got problem with internet connection. But YouTube client shows on the welcome screen preview of today´s added videos. So the question is why should application download preview of video, but it can´t play the video? I´m a little bit confused
Thanks for the suggestion, but I had tried that already and it did not work. I don't think it is just my cellphone. There are many comments re the HD2 that make it clear that it does not work with a Parrot handsfree carkit, Motorola S9 headset etc, and the 2 earlier posts reveal problems using WiFi too. It seems to be problematic on many fronts. I cannot even connect it using Windows Mobile via an USB port! And while I appreciate all suggestions it seems to me that this model is a (very expensive) lemon and frustrates huge numbers of owners. I find it odd that a 2 year old Nokia N95 can connect and browse instantly and a 'smart phone' doesn't work at all. I find it to be very gimmicky. I don't need twitter, facebook etc. I need voice dial, good PC software (like Ovi and PC suite) and bluetooth that works etc. The HD2 has none of this, but great graphics of a windscreen wiper, exactly the sort of pointless gimmick that reveals that the designers were interested in making a toy and not a useful phone.
I suggest you try and install "HTC_Wi-Fi_onDemand_by_Krocher". This program will always use wifi when available and stop the GPRS from connecting and will also keep your wifi on a stand-by. Please do read through the thread as you have to make sure that no programs using wifi are activated when you want it to be off. For me it solved several problems with wifi.
Second thought is to upgrade to one of the much more stable and already tweaked OS's. There are quite a lot out and you'll find everything about that on this forum as well.
Last thought, if it does not work it must be something to do with either the settings or the OS version as for others it works absolutely fine. These are complicated phones that, much like computers, must be set and tweaked to the correct settings in order to get the best out of them. If you just want a "buy and run" phone this is not the one.
Success,
Itamar
As the topic says my HMJ37 P7500XKWG9 will not sync (or even connect) to exchange over wifi.
Using stock email app with Exchange 2010.
As soon as I switch wifi off, sync starts working. This only happens with the stock app, everything else works perfectly fine over both wifi and 3g.
Multiple wipes and resets did not help.
I am thinking this is a bug in samsung software but would like to hear if anyone else has this problem before I start flashing random other firmware versions...
Is your Exchange server on the same network as your wi-fi connetion? Sounds like you have a networking problem.

It's not a networking problem.

You didn't answer my question.
What I mean by networking problem is that if you accessing the Exchange server that is on the same network as wi-fi, the server name/IP address might be different than that of access via 3G/internet. For the email client, 3G or wi-fi shouldn't make any difference. So I doubt it is a software bug. Rather a network configuration issue.
Similar issue
My stock widget is not updating correctly with my WiFi only tab 10.1. We are using '07 exchange and since I updated the Touch Wiz U/I this past weekend my email widget will get stuck on an email. New ones come in but the old ones don't move down to make way for the new ones. If I open the widget the new ones are there, just a PIA to open the widget to see what's new. I'm running stock. Not sure if there is a setting I'm not seeing to have it work the way it did pre Touch Wiz??
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Because if it's accessible on 3G, it's accessible on any wifi properly connected to internet. Besides, no other mail program (touchdown, moxier) has problems on wifi...
Does anyone with this firmware actually have stock exchange sync working on wifi?

I have the exact same problem. Syncs via 3G but not WiFi. When first setting up the Exchange account, I could not get it to even connect to the server via WiFi. After I switched off WiFi and tried 3G, it setup fine.
I have 2 iPhones, one iPad and several PCs on the same wireless network and they all have zero problems so it has to be specific to the 10.1.
Galaxy Tab P7500 XXKG7
The same problem. Few days after purchase I use Exchange (3G, WiFi) and was happy.... but after full reboot and clearing all date, Exchange sync only through 3G. No sync with WiFi.
So now I use two Exchange accounts (corporate and Google) with 3G connection, because no sync with WiFi.
Do you have any ideas?
Different access point, different Exchange servers, correct settings ... but same problem: no sync with WiFi!
No, I am out of ideas. I tested two other email programs - Moxier and Touchdown, both of which work perfectly over WiFi and 3G. So I purchased Touchdown.
I have tested with two different Exchange servers and get the same problem so it cannot be Exchange specific.
It must be a bug in the Honeycomb email software.
I find it very odd because essentially the email client just makes network calls and what sort of network connection is used should be completely transparent to the software.

It was not Honeycomb bug only.... because I find several similar posts on other forums connections with Android 2.2.3, 2.3

Is that right. Pretty fundamental impact on functionality so I would have thought it would get top priority for a hotfix.
OTOH there must be 10.1 owners out there who have it working, otherwise it would be all over the net. Maybe it affects the 3G model only.
Have you tested on more than one WiFi network?

3 different WiFi networks based on different equipment (Cisco, HP, DLink) and diff. providers
Hi! I solve this problem.
1. took out SIM card
2. Full reset.
3. Insert SIM card again.
Everything works well!
After them come the think, may be enough took out SIM and re-setting. But now I have well good sink Exchange over WiFi and 3G.
Hi!
Did that, and it worked right until I have inserted back the SIM card and activated the 3G settings. Then it also started working only on 3G. Very strange. May be something with operators?

It not a operator problem, I think. I checked 3G Utel Ukraine and EGPRS Beeline Russia. That the same resalts. So I think it is Android 3,1 problem.
Also, about full reset. . . It is not necessary. Took out SIM and restart onle needed.
Right, ashot, but did it work afterwards? For me it stopped when I activated 3G again.
I don't usually like to push or sell apps on people but I would just pay the money and buy Touchdown mostly because its fast, reliable and secure. It works the same way Outlook 2010 works and it keeps you more organized just like outlook. Plus they sync really nice together if your using ActiveSync on your exchange server, which you better be if your a good IT SYS Admin.
I would do it, if there was no preinstalled software. But there is one, and I just want to get it working.
Imagine telling that to an iPad owner.

Pre-installed doesn't always mean good. Example being the iPad. Nothing pre-installed on their is any good and I tell iPad owners that almost daily, sadly.
