Posting this to see if anyone else has this, and if any one knows how to make it work.
I use Google Voice for my international calls, but after the upgrade the dialer takes over, Google voice can not be used to "only make international calls"
i have to use "ask for every call" which is not the best solution.
[EDIT] that option does not work either
I'm having the exact same problem.
I even made several international phone calls, thinking that maybe Google Voice was running in the background... now I'll get hit with the charges for international calls from AT&T :s
Any solution to this problem?
I'm using the X10i 2.1 Global firmware on a X10a (AT&T)
hope this helps

unfortunately the suggested process does not work
I found a way to make calls by google voice. I went to the browser, went to the google voice website, and from there, I placed the call. Then I received the phone call from my google number, and it connected me to the number I was calling.
It's more troublesome than just using the app, but it is a workaround.
Any other ideas or solutions?

When you do that, aren't you still using the GSM network and your sim card to have the call connected?
I am having identical problems (2.1 Nordic) and trying to use google voice over WiFi to avoid using network minutes but Sony's dialer takes over... hopefully sony or GV will update and fix this real soon... very frustrating

I use Google Voice for international calls... so I'm still using my GSM minutes, but just as a local call, not with international rates.
Have same problem. Cost me one expensive international phone call.
Generic FW, Build 2.0.A.0504 - X10i/ATT USA
GV screen comes up, then native dialer takes over. Have used workaround posted above, but naturally would just like to be able to use it as intended.
Just a heads up to anyone who has updated to 2.1.
I have the Rogers 2.1 and using AT&T as the carrier. GV does not work for ANY of my outgoing phone calls even when I specify to use GV only.
If the issue is SE's dialer, is there a way to revert back to the generic dialer?
Thanks
I'm also having this issue, only after recently upgrading my X10 to the generic 2.1 software. I wonder if anyone has found a solution yet?
I've had this problem since day 1, since I'm from Canada and use my GV to call my american / long distance friends. I have had to use the website workaround since day one, and it really bugs me. When I was working from the iPhone app, it worked properly (call me, then call the number I'm trying to call). Since switching to my X10a, I can't have it just call me, it uses the dialer directly.
So, I use up about 100-200k of my data plan to make the call. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.
So, with the stock root rom, with a few different roms, and even with different kernels and radios, I don't ever receive incoming calls (though if I make an outgoing phone call, it works just fine).
Anyone know if this is something I can fix? Or is it an issue on Verizon's side? They had to go through three 4G SIM cards before finding one that my phone could actually activate with, so I'm wondering if that's the problem.
Did you set up call forwarding? Try calling *73 as this disables all calls to be forwarded, and try again.
You know what? I think you might be right... before I got my Thunderbolt, I had an OG Droid set to forward calls to a different temporary number...
My phone is going through a restore right now, so the INSTANT it boots up, I'll be dialing *73.
EDIT
VICTORY! It must have kept the call forwarding on the line. Thank you SO MUCH.
you're welcome.
Anyone else have this issue? I know it was working on the original stock rom for the 10.1.
Since the upgrade to KM(b) /E groove IP does not dial anymore.
This is the latest 1.2.2 version of groove IP.
Ideas or anyone else have this problem.
I think I'm going back to KMB and if that does not work, stock.
Groove IP works great for me, fully updated to latest ROM and app version. Did you try clearing the app cache or uninstalling/reinstalling?
Found the bug....
IT was a known problem with 1.2.2 not dialing..... - they just released 1.2.3, installed that and I can make calls again - THANKS!
Do you guys have any trouble receiving calls? I installed it today and was able to place a call ok, but when I called my GV number it just rang to my Epic 4G.. someone suggested that I need to logout of GV on my phone.. I was hoping to have my GV number ring to both devices..
Thanks in advance..

I am having the exact same problem. Hope someone can help us.
i dont think groovip can recieve calls. You'll have to see if gv can ring your gtalk account.
I put a post up for this and it seems like no one replied. So I am wondering if anyone would be able to help me with this. I have it setup with sipbri it allows me to have my google voice account on sipbri and it lets me make calls but anytime I try to call all I get is my voice mail after it rings so many times. Am I doing something wrong or is it that the recieving calls part doesn't work right on Inferior Human Organs Cyanogen Mod 7.1?
Anybody? Well I actually got it working not sure what the issue was. I have a different rom it is CM7.1.0.1-VM670-BobZhome-111311 and it appears to be working fine. I just had to make a call on the internet call then after that I tried to call the number and I recieved it each time I called it. Seems like I have little to no delay either as people I talk to respond to me fine and can understand me fine.
Has anyone successfully used a SIP account on SIII?
Yes all the time...
Which app are you guys using? Anyone use native sip app which is within android? I tried using native but I noticed how during the call you cannot use the keypad. For example, after initial call connects, and the other side says - for technical support press 1, then the keypad doesn't work since the call is already connected. Anyone having this issue?
A how-to would be great...
Swype'd with my Sammy Galaxy S3

I think I know what you mean.
You actually get the keypad, but no DTMF tone being sent to the other end, right?
I was going to suggest sipdroid but seems like sipdroid also have the same issue.
weird.

That is correct.
I ended up buying BRIA app for $10 and a codec for another $10. This is actually working good
