Ive seen some ROMs running Rcmix kernal and confirm that it works for their ROM, but the ROM is based off the new update. Anyone been able to confirm that it indeed works for it?? Ill probably try here in a min but wanted to get some advice or feedback before I made that plunge.
No.
They are 2.3.3 only.
There are no custom kernels for 2.3.4 until HTC releases their source for 2.3.4

Hey there I'm new to android coming from iOS. Ive been trying new roms but they havent been working that smoothly for me. Wondering if theres a rom that is very close to official 2.1 but rooted
currently running froydvillain 1.5, overclocked to 652mhz (for some reason I remember my unrooted 1.5 my hero came with to be more stable)
BTW what is RUU is there a terms thread for nubs?
RUU is a Rom Update Utility. Its an executable made by HTC to flash new roms for people who don't have root/a recovery image.
As far as stock roms go, it depends which "stock" you want. Froyd is a vanilla 2.2 rom. 2.2 hasn't officially been released for our hero, so its a little bit buggy. Cudos to the developers though, I use froyd as an every day rom, doesn't give me any gip.
Anyway, 2.1 was officially released for us by HTC, and I would heartily recommend vanillaeclair 4 for your vanilla 2.1 needs.
Sense is the HTC GUI for the hero and us "stock" as far as the hero is concerned. Chocolateeclair is made by the same Guy as vanillaeclair, but I dislike sense, so I can't really recommend any good sense roms.

Villain rom 12 if you want a no frills 100% 2.1 rom everything works.
If you want to use 2.2 i am using froydvillain 1.5 all working well but a bit heavy on the battery apart from that working lovely here.
use rcmix, it's the best 2.1 rom imo.

another +1 for VillainROM !
New to xda, have a rooted, unlocked 2.3.4 ATT atrix.
I'm running faux123's kernel, just wondering what other kernel choices are out there, for over-clocking, etc.
Ty
If I am not wrong so far are 3:
Fau123's: Actually is the one I am using fast & stable, just the bug of the battery after install that need to re calibrate after been install (easy fix)
Edgan: Stable & conservative Nice to give a try
Kholk: Last thing I read, he trow the towel until Motorola release the source of GB code due to a bug in the WIFI module

Is the kernel source only released for moto 2.2 right now?
Yes.
The gb kernel is not officially released.
It's source code will be released after the official release of gb I think..

So how ironic. All this time the 2.2 kernel source has been available, but nobody could compile their own kernel cause with a locked boot loader it couldn't be flashed. Now that we have unlock, everybody is on 2.3.4 so nobody wants a 2.2 custom kernel.
Has anybody tried making a custom 2.2 kernel and flashing it to a 2.2 ROM now that its possible? I'd imagine the kernel will have lots of similar code between the two...
I think the reason the answer is NO because you will loose some proprietary hardware, that I don't think so Motorola will release those codes (aka fingerprint reader)

I successfully rooted my 1.5 hboot with HTC's official method. All my root apps work fine and I installed steel rom 2.01. My kernel version is
2.6.35.13-g84f8edd
I originally tried to flash synergy rom, this caused my phone to randomly (and frequently) reboot. I flashed steel rom and my phone is stable now. I downloaded the showdown kernel 2 from here at xda and flashed it by itself. I don't believe my kernel version changed; I would think it would say showdown something. My setcpu does not have any overclock capabilities right now.
Is this because I don't have s-off? If so, is there a way possible now to flash kernels on evo 3ds with the hboot v1.5?
Also if anyone has any tips on getting synergy to work I'd appreciate it.
Which synergy are you flashing? If you took the update and are on 2.3.4 you can't flash a 2.3.3 ROM. sounds like you are flashing an older synergy.
Edit: also there are no kernels for 2.3.4 out yet except the stock because HTC hasn't released the source code

The file I downloaded was synergy-evo3d-unofficial-345.zip. It took me a while and some confusion to find it. I think the thread said the kernel was included in the rom. But I think it also said 2.3.4. I would rather be on 2.3.3 with a custom kernel.
I just flashed synergy revision 318 and it didn't flash the ziggy kernel. I cleared data before flashing. I see my vrsion of androi is 2.3.3, and I tried flashing the showdown Kellernel 2. Any ideas? It still says I have the stock htc kernel.
You can't flash a kernel if you rooted using HTC's unlocker method.

HTC's unlock method doesn't let you flash kernels ( not to my knowledge but I could be wrong ) I've read several threads about people trying to flash kernels and it looking like it flashed, but didn't actually flash. BUT, your on 2.3.4, so you can't flash a 2.3.3 kernel. You gotta flash a 2.3.4 kernel. And the only losses kernel we have is freeza's kernel.
From what I understand, HTC's unlock method only allows write access to the system partition.

I've been running MeanRom ICS. I wanted to give the sprint stock version a try. What's the best way to do this?
Thanks.
Oh, read the forums, I think about a gizzilion boot loops, problems, issue's
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
Well since you can't update ota if you are rooted, just find a stock rooted rom and flash it just like any other rom. As you SHOULD know from reading, you can't run the new kernel without the new hboot, so update to that if you want to use the new kernel.

The 2.4 version I do believe was based on the VM leak. His newest 2.6 version is based on the latest Sprint release, and works just great. I have been running it with no issues.
If you have S-off , you can upgrade the hboot and kernel to the latest. If not, you can leave the kernel and hboot you have and just flash the rom.
Just and idea.
Hey so I rooted my thunderbolt which is 2.11.605.19 gingerbread
So what roms and kernels are compatible with this version or what would work.
anyone have any advice?
This doesn't exactly answer your question but:
Check the Development section for ROMs.
Personal opinion: upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich is worth it, rather than sticking with Gingerbread. Try santod040's ROMs if you like Sense.
You can basically run any gb or ics Rom with any radio or kernel. As long as the kernel is built for whatever Rom you are running be it sense or aosp. The ota ics seems to run best on the latest radios. There is no custom kernel yet for ics Roms. Not until its released by HTC.
