My brother's vibrant is turning off any time its dropped. It even turns off from a one to two inch test drop onto a table. Does anyone have a clue why? It turns back on after so battery is in contact after the fall. Stock back and battery.

Get a piece of cigarette pack and slide it along the edge of the battery to make the battery sit in snug. Works on all the phones with loose battery problems.

The battery might be lose, There was a thread once about people shaking their phone and it turning off. The general consensus was loose battery and a folded gum wrapper between the case and battery was the fix. That thread prompted me to make a video of me shaking my phone, LOL.
That's what I thought. Thanks for the tips. Worked like a charm.

Hi XDA,
Hating being a walking billboard, I decided to order some replacement battery covers for the the wife and I. I noticed on the VZW GN2, the nfc chip is attached to the door rather than the actual battery like it is is most other phones. I was able to remove it and put it in the replacement battery doors and nfc works great.
The problem is that my wife has several battery doors she's switching back and forth between and the stickiness is starting to wear out so we ordered some replacement batteries with NFC built in, but were unable to get it to work. Anyone have experience with this or any tips?
Thanks in advance.
I imagine it doesn't work because the phone isn't designed that way? Lack of battery pin?

All replacement battery doors I've seen come with the NFC stuff on them, so the reason it's wearing off is because it's not meant to come off in the first place.
I just received metallic cover for my Galaxy mega I9200.
Here is the link for the cover.

I am facing serious battery drain as soon as I put this cover. I am not really sure is it because of this cover or some app is doing the damage? I restarted my phone twice, cleared memory and killed all the applications. Still I am facing serious battery drain. Normally this battery works 1.5 days very easily with normal use (like wifi + data + music player + facebook and games etc).
This cover is very nice, I really like it. But I want to know is it really because of this cover I am facing battery drain problem? Or some app is doing problem? Or do I need to wipe data and restore my data again?
Take cover off put plastuc one on. Use for a day and you will know the answer

Possibly having a effect on signal?

The metal case blocks signal which makes the phone work extra hard.

That is what I was thinking as the wifi and if you use your carrier..then the 3G,4G,LTE etc will have to work harder at keeping the best signal which can put more drain on the battery I believe.

Yes
What happens is the phone is struggling to get a signal
Which definately does drain the battery
I know metal backs and bumper guards look cool,
but I don't think anyone gives any thought to signal loss.
Here's a free million dollar idea:
Make a back cover that actually boosts or enhances the signal instead of blocking it.
Why can't they make a cover that connects to the antenna and actually becomes a giant antenna? And no those little sticker boosters do Not work.

it definitely block signal! I facing the same problem! Signal for network and wifi also degrade as well!
Hello,
I have bought an used xperia ultra off the internet.
The problem is that outdoor I have no issue with my signal. But when I go inside the signal drops and it shows me NO NETWORK.
Is there any solution for this ?
Thank you in advance !
I have tried software update and hard reset with no luck ...
Depends on the type of house you're living in and the general coverage in your area. I live in a concrete apartment and i have excellent coverage, so it might be the coverage in your area? How many lines do you have when you're outside?
Now I am using my sim card in a nexus 4 and i get full signal in the same place where my xperia doesn't.
The cell tower is not very far away ...
So, the house is not a problem ...
P.s : nexus 4 has full signal on wcdma but xperia has no signal/poor signal even on edge/gprs ...
As you can see in the picture, every phone tested with that sim has full signal in the same place. But not the xperia ... I think it's "blessed" ...

Weird. I get better signal than ever with my Z Ultra. Inside on the countryside right now where my signal always was 1-2 bars with most of my other Androids and i often lost the signal temporarily. I'm sitting on full 4 bars now with my Z. Amazing!

Well you are a lucky man, congratulations. My problem is that I bought the phone in a different country and I'm pretty sure that the folks here in my country will deny the warranty ... And going back in the country of purchase is not an option.
Does anyone have a Modem/Baseband that could be flashed to see if the problem still persists?
Thank you !

Problem solved ...
For all of you that experience the same problem, take a hot air gun, heat up the back of the phone, and slowly take it off with a suction cup.
After doing that, check the cable that comes from the antenna to the motherboard. Mine was loose, and I hat to fit it back in it's correct place.
After powering on the phone, the signal is OK !
Attached a photo below:
And a video with disassembly instructions.
Hope that helps you.
Hi there - by antenna, do you mean the whitish cable on the right-most section of your picture?
Another thing, did the back cover stay attached perfectly after you've re-assembled it? I mean using the heat gun on it didn't make it permanently loose?
What about water-proofing?
Thanks!

Same here. Will this solution not affect the waterproof of the phone? Anyone has any other solutions?

Wouldn't it be easier if you just send it in to Sony?
It would be, but I bought it on ebay and I don't have receipt for it. The other thing is I noticed when the phone is in standby it has full signal when i start using it the signal bars are going down.

Hi. Finally it's working and yes the cable was loose. It's really easy to open the phone. It's the cable on right it's grey and silver ( like on picture) You can buy new original adhesive tape on ebay for £5. I don't know about waterproofness after. I will try when I will get new phone. Hopefully ultra2

I'm surprised you'd even want a new one after dealing with that. Hopefully I don't need the original receipt to get warranty service. I hate the idea of opening up a new phone to solve a problem with a home remedy. As you can tell I am suffering from the same issue.
3G and 4G can have poor reception indoors. See if switching to 2G only helps, even if you don't have mobile data enabled.
It was the only way to normally use the phone. It took 5-10 min and now it's working perfect. Try with Sony service centre, I hope they will do it for you. It's best phone ever, I hope they will make ultra 2.

I have exactly the same issue
aaand now I have the same issue. ****ING hell...*****phone ...eh gonna send it in someday next week. I don't have the receipt here so got to go to my other apartment first
a weird solution that worked for me
Hi guys I had the same issue and solved it finally
First I tried your method and checked the antenna cable mine was already in place and fine so I was depressed and closed the phone back.I tried every thing else rebooting, repairing through companion, updating the rom, changing sim, changing network and every thing else. Finally I took phone into service they returned it without the issue and I was pleased too much, but same issue returned after 2 weeks
So I tried a stupid thing that worked like a charm I put 2 pieces of paper under the sim and above the sim metal holder and inserted the sim back then the issue was solved and network is like any other phone finally
It worked for me and I think it may worse a try
Mindgasm
I Just bought my New Z ultra Last month. At beginning i thought that my Z ultra poor signal were normal (90-110 dbm) until I compare to my friend's Z ultra. I realized there's something wrong! I was hopeless till I found this thread. Thanks to Al3xxxinho it worked! The antennA were loose also. Easy to open and I didnt see it Will break the warranty seal if you open, and the back cover still fit perfectly. Now I enjoy full signal bar.:laugh::laugh:
What I did was chanel the preferred network type to wcdma

I was getting poor signal too but when I went into settings-->more-->mobile networks-->preferred network type and change from LTE(preferred) to wcdma(preferred) and my signal went way up
Spilled a glass of water from my bedside table on the phone, put the phone in rice for a day and everything is now fine except for bluetooth pairing. I have tried different ROMs but no dice, simply can't find any bluetooth device.
Is there any method to test the bluetooth module or back connections to troubleshoot? I also have a spare Evo LTE from a family member that's screen completely fried, and can harvest parts from if it's not ridiculously difficult.
Thanks
Not sure about the bluetooth, but the EVO 4G LTE is pretty easy to take apart. If no one can help you on the bluetooth, I'd swap the insides from the screen damage one and put it into yours. YouTube has a lot of videos showing you how. Here's a link that might help on the teardown:

Good luck!

Thanks, I was originally thinking that route too but the other phone is totally jacked from a hard life of lots of drops without a case; I can only hope that the internals are fine beyond the deathblow that was the screen...
You may want to try swapping just the sd card cover. That cover is where the antennas are. Since my 2 year old bent mine -slightly- I have to keep firm pressure on the cover to maintain bluetooth connections.

Amazing, you're right. If I apply pressure to the back cover Bluetooth functionality completely returns. Unfortunately it makes no difference with which backing I use (tried three), so the problem is with the connections on the phone. Is this a very common problem?
