[Q] Which ROM Are You Using? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello GUIse & Girls
As you can probably see in the subject bar (or title bar) in this thread, I was wondering what ROM's you guys are using. I think I've probably tested all the ROM's available for the SGSII (Since I'm a themer) and I can't come to the conclusion on which one is the best, they all have their strong points but some are better than others. I will eventually will put a Poll up when I can collate ALL the ROM's that are the main ones (No offence the ones I miss out).
I'll start,
I change ROM's almost daily (As I said, I'm a themer and need to test features) but at present I am using Revolution 2.6 with the Speedmod t27 Kernel, the battery isn't as good as expected, I've disabled fast dormancy and hardly use 3G Data or Wi-Fi and it seems just to drain like none of it's business. I'm even using the Black Android Theme I made for the SGSII as blacks work better and use 30% less power on the Super AMOLED plus.
So, which ROM are you using?

Lite'ning ROM with rstopher's Red Theme.

I tries most of the rom. But for battery life and stability, in my opinion, the best is so far the stock one (KH3 for the moment). I just apply some tweaks^^ (CRT, APN, Talk2, UAchange in browser...)

Usually stock is best as it's default with nothing added. You add whatever you want to it. Good really.

I'd probably go with Revolution ROM, he included a ROM Kitchen app in it so you can install whatever tweaks and themes you need.
If you're looking for pure stability then it's Cognition.

[Q] Which GB ROM?

Hello,
I have got the itch to try a GB ROM again. I'm currently running Project V and it's great, but i want some change. I tried CM7 RC1 when it first came out and couldn't deal with the horrible battery life. But I figure it's been quite a while so things may have improved since then. What would be everyone's suggestion on the best one? I don't like crazy themes or anything. I'm just looking for a stock GB look with decent battery life and stability. Thanks in advance!
I want to know this too!

Simply Honey is way over-themed for my liking.
If over themed you mean completely then yes it probably is. Sorry didn't mean to make the UI uniform.

Calm down now, it's nothing personal. I'm sure it runs just fine. I just like the stock GB look.
The cm7 have drastically improved battery is on part with most other GB roms. I personally love Miui revamped LE it is incredibly fast and the developers are extremely active in the forum. Along with that they update the ROM every Friday and you always think there is no way it can get better but somehow they always seem to exceed expectations

Biffmod
I personally find Simply Honey to be a bit much as well (no offense explodingboy, just not to my taste). So, leaning toward a stock-ish ROM, I recommend Biffmod Vibrant. It's basically CM7, but with a bunch of tweaks to fix the common complaints and a stock look. Here are the changes:
Features:
*Mix of AOSP/cm7 - 2.3.5
*black launcher2
*black camera
*notification widgets
*overclock capable kernel (1.7ghz)
*voodoo color and sound
*BLN/LED Notifications (on by default, the BLN app is not compatible)
*Ricktips
*glitch kernel HL thanks TK-Glitch

I've been using it ever since I switched from my HD2 to the Vibrant, and it's a dream. The only issue I've encountered is a "problem" with the overclocking: the kernel says it can go up to 1.7Ghz, but in my experience it tops out at about 1.4Ghz before the phone starts to freeze up. Other than that, like I said, it's great—I fully recommend it.

I just wanted to chime in, I've tried your rom before and it was fantastic (in fact, i think it was the first one to have bln fixed when all the other roms had broken bln). However, I was past my honeycomb theme phase and is looking for a more stock gb (or close to it) look now. I constantly search for themes for your rom that can make it look like stock but to no avail I think if you added a stock theme zip, you will be able to increase your user base by quite a significant amount of people.
It's great--I easily go a whole day with moderate to heavy Wifi usage (I don't have data) without having to plugin.

I ended up flashing Biffmod last night. It is amazing so far. So smooth and I haven't had a single issue yet. I also ended up flashing the newest Bali Kernel and have it UV'ed quite substantially. We'll see how it does on battery.
Thanks for the advice.
I personally prefer CM7 or Bionix 1.3.1
Every GB rom I've tried has not had a working GPS. I travel for a living so I need this to work. I have since gone back to 2.2 so my GPS works but out of curiosity, is there a GB rom/kernel that supports reliable GPS functionality?
I could be wrong but I think some of the gps work. GPS worked fine for me on Simply Honey 5.0, which I loved. I liked the themeing, especially the pink theme made to go with it!! I just decided to give Trigger (GB not Froyo) a try and I am equally happy with it. GPS isn't a huge issue for me, but I noticed on Trigger I get locks but they are not accurate, usually within 100ft. I also haven't tweaked any of the settings or tried any of the fixes. There are lots of great GB roms out there...just play around and see what suits you best. My Vibrant has always had great gps I've read that some GPS just don't work well on Vibrants.
I personally really like the AOSP GB Roms, Trigger, CM7 and MIUI are all great... have not tried Biffmod yet, but I intend to sometime.
Kernel-wise, I really like Glitch V11 HL
No problem!

It's not a kernel issue. It's just that your vibrant cant handle the overclock as all devices overclock and undervolt differently

[Poll]What rom do you use and what do you like about it

Just doing a poll here to help new GS2 users decide what rom they will choose as well as converting users like me to newer roms.
So have a vote, what rom do you use on your Galaxy S II and go on don't be lazy tell us why you like it so much and how its different from everything else out there.

Oh don't get me wrong I love it otherwise I would of swapped, but with some other roms you get theme chooser, Callrec and a few other intergrated things that aren't available in Darky's, doesnt make it a bad rom though.
CM7, because it's one of 2 ROM's that supports the PS3 controller. All the other ROM's will eventually nick parts of it anyway so I may as well get the features direct from the source.
Stock, rooted.
Debating something different, but want to be armed with more knowledge first. Most important criteria for me are: battery life, stability, ALL phone functionality retained, and lastly aesthetics, something about blue system colours sings to me.
I'm on cockrom v8.2. I like it because it's hardcore.
Thanks for the helpful thread btw, really original.
Sensation rom because its beautiful. However I do find stock is most stable.
I'm very happy with the performance and stability of the stock ROM, more than I ever imagined. TouchWiz 4.0 is actually very, very fast, IMO.
I've tried other launchers... even paid versions... and I still think that TW performs wonderfully fast and fluidly on the Galaxy S II. It seems that Samsung really did something right here. So, while I love the fact that the devs are always working on new stuff, I'll trade stability for the bleeding edge these days.
My 2 cents.
Cognition 1.5.1 - fast, stable and battery-friendly.
Miui for me at the moment, fantastic ROM. However with the BT not working I will probably be going back to stock until thats fixed. Really need BT to work.

I'm using cognition 1.5.1, I like this rom the most because its decent on battery life, stable, and stock looking, besides the added power menu (reboot, download, and recovery), and added drop down menu allows for data on/off.
I am using check rom v2....and the battery life and stability is excellent so far. The dev answers all questions, and after trying ALL the others available, i find this is my personal favourite.
The full screen contact pictures when making a call are great and checks ram script make this a wonderfully smooth rom.....i recommend to anyone.
Surprised to see that u dont have gingermod rom listed.

Its the best of both worlds. Has the ASOP looks and u can add any stock feature that u want.
I am an asop rom person and with this rom there are no deficiencies.
Cognition here as well: close to stock with all the right mods to make it a smooth and battery friendly experience. I also enjoyed using Sensation very much.
Have been using Cognition since I got my sgs2 and it is wonderful rom. Like the above poster has said it is close to stock and better.

You can't compare those two roms. Villain is 100% working while CM has bugs and some hardware is not working
Forget about Villain, it's not that great, just another samsung stock-based ROM. Go with CM7 or MIUI or GalnetMIUI. Much better roms. If you absolutely want a samsung stock based rom, go with LeoMar's Revolution ROM, it's by far the best and most customizable one.
The only reason I'm thinking of villain is because it seems like the only one which is pretty much complete...
Also I'm more of a simplicity kinda person, don't like too much going on theme wise etc.. suppose i'll research those 4 you said thanks
You could try Cognition 1.51. Very fast and stable rom that almost never shows fc`s.

Cognition is awesome. Stock feel but some great fixes. Been running on my phone for a couple of weeks and don't think I have seen a force close.
I am a huge fan of SensatioN ROM. My Bank of America app force closes every now and then but I don't mind because I don't want it open unless I'm using it! It also comes with a badass feature of completely eliminating the TouchWiz Samsung base and customizable bottom scroll bar for home apps, leaving the homescreens open for widgets and other apps (except there's only 3 homescreens). But it is definitely a great ROM in my opinion. I loved CM7 when I had my HD2, and from what I saw of Villain I did not like it, but CM7 is awesome, although like someone else posted there are nagging issues with it.
CM7.

Must say though due to it being an upgrade and based on new firmware its smooth like hell.....Great battery saver to....Plus you can theme this rom the way you want and still have the basics of the stock rom.
Its hard choice but like JJEgan would say to find out the best rom you best try them all yourself to make your own opinion. if there was one best rom everyone would be using that one.

The UnNamed v1.2.0 Custom Rom is the best rom currently available for our
phones, it's not only the most stable and reliable full featured custom rom
but it's also the best looking and aesthetically pleasing rom which is available
for our phones at the present time.
I agree that UnNamed is the best Stock Based ROM. Currently I can't put MIUI down, with an ICS theme.
Edit: Forgot to add my reason. I like MIUI because it is like CM7 in customization, but adds a level of refined polished UI. It definately has an iPhoney feel, but in a good way. Its like a skin. I love the lock screen, direct SMS and phone links. I love that you can customize your notification toggles (which ones and order), and I love the way SMS is presented to you with a way to reply inline, without leaving the app you are in. I was downloading the UnNamed version with NFC, and I got a text. I had not noticed until then that I could type my response and hit send without leaving the xda app. I just stopped and literally said wow, and haven't had the desire to try another ROM since.
The only thing I miss from the stock ROM is the camera. The MIUI camera is great, but the stock one has more options and features.

So far I've flashed UnNamed, S8, MIUI, and GalnetMIUI. I've found all of them to be very solid and experienced very little issues with any of them. I'm currently on GalnetMIUI and am liking it a lot.
I've found battery life to be better on UnNamed and S8 than the MIUI variants. Not by huge margin but i can see a difference in everyday use. I also prefer some of the stock apps on these roms more(camera, video, etc).
For customization and aesthetics, MIUI can't be topped IMO.
I plan on trying all of the roms at some point but can't seem to quit MIUI at the moment.

Actually I believe it is safe to say all of the ROMs will provide better battery life since most of them eliminate the "bloatware" installed by att and use more efficient kernels than the stock ROM offers.

hahaha you consider a preview kernel, with limited features/functionality and some bugs, to be the best kernel available to the vibrant?? or is it only the best because that's what you have?
i couldnt even mount my sd to my computer on that kernel.
im not trashing the dev by any means, thats why he called it a "preview kernel". but to come onto a thread and call it the best available is ignorant, and can be very misleading to inexperienced users.
Honestly , you should try it, It work so good, Speed is great! , No lag, Battery life is awsome., the only problem, the games open but for some reason close,/

So far battery life is ok for me, less than stock passion but thats expected for a preview. I am finding Live OC incredible, set clock speeds on the fly.
But overall Topshelf is right, its a PREVIEW, with more features and fixes to come, so its not best kernel as of right now, but imo soon
