Cannot add apps to home screens.. - Motorola Photon 4G

Hopefully someone can help me out.
The problem I'm having is that every time I go into to the app drawer to add an app to any of the home screen, the app doesn't transfer over.
However, if I'm on a home screen and I long press on it and choose shortcuts>applications> I can pick the desired application then it'll transfer over to my home screen. It wasn't like this earlier today.
I rooted my phone using the one-click method so I'm wondering if that had something to do with it.It seems that this issue just started after I rooted, but I can't confirm this.
Also ,I don't have another home replacement/launcher installed on the phone.
So if anyone know of a fix, it'll be much appreciated.
Thanks

It does not have anything to do with root. Did you remove an files using root explorer? If not I would try a battery pull first. If it were me I would try power and vol button and do the wipe. HOWEVER I am not sure if root will stay with this device or not it did on my previous phones.

Very odd issue, is there any "lock desktop" settings on the phone?

Thats weird...try wipe cache and wipe dalvic cache in recovery and reboot? Do u use titanium backup? If so did u freeze any programs or delete any?

[Q] Sound

I'm having an issue with my music not playing. I went into my volume controls, where I can adjust, individually the volume for either media, alarm and notifications. When you hold and drag the bar, either volume up or down, wherever you stop you are given an example as to how loud it will be at this setting. For both notification and alarm I am give example. When I hold and drag the media bar, no matter where I stop, I don't get an example. Ive tried to play the music I was listening to this morning and my player would not makes sounds but the counter for the length of the song was advancing. I downloaded another media player in hopes that it was just the stock I had but that didn't work either. What can cause this issue and any ideas on what I can do to fix this issue??
definitely haven't heard this issue before...
can we get some more information on what you've tried to fix it? what had you done before it stopped playing media sounds?
do you still hear ringtones/alarms etc...? (when receiving a call)
are u on any rom? rooted? any mods/tweaks/hacks?
do you gear music if you plug headphones in?
did u try clearing data on music app? or clearing cache partition from stock recovery?
last resort may be to try a factory data reset either from recovery or maybe setting menu...
Yes, my is phone rooted with one click rooring but have not ben able to complete the recovery so I haven't done much. The rooting thing is new to me. My bf told me about in sept and I decided to try it out about a week ago. I have uninstalled the stock media player and I downloaded google media player thinking and hoping it was just my player. Even with the new one I still can't hear any music. I can fast my phone ring and if someone texts me I hear that tone as well. This issue started last night and I'm stumped on what else I'm can do.
at this point it really depends on if you are worried about losing your user data...
u know....messages etc....
BUT since you are still stock you might have some luck by flashing a rom...
when flashing a rom you need to wipe data/cache from system recovery app
private message me or join me on an irc channel and I will happily walk you through installing the bootstrap app to be able to flash a rom. will also help ya put in creating the backup before flashing anything in case you want to get back...
---------- Post added at 10:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 PM ----------
oh yeah
u DON'T necessarily have to.flash a rom
wiping data from stock recovery may help ya
u.will just.lose all texts, apps, app data, contacts(until u restore using backup assistant if u use it)
it is EASY to do...
but try a cache wipe first
u wont.lose ANY data with a cache wipe...
let me know if u need details how...very easy

could you please add [SOLVED] to the title to help others out
glad all is well again
How do I do that?
press edit button(on your first post here )
if using the xda app long.press ur original post(a.k.a OP) And select edit.
then just add that word to the title you.originally put
I dont know how....
browse to the top of this page in your browser, to your initial post, and click edit in the right corner of the box. then add [SOLVED] to the title and click save, you may have to go into advanced edit.
from the XDA app as ASH said long click your initial question and choose edit
u could also always go to xda-developer.com using your X2 browser and navigate to your list here.
99%of my posts here are done using stock browser...works just fine...
after u press edit in your original post for this thread u will be able to add/delete from the title/subject....just add solved and press save

How to clear old notifications?

Whenever a new notification appears in my notification bar on stock gb rom its always accompanied by the same four browser notifications from months back saying download completed.
I downloaded some images off net for my blog using browser and even when I click clear to clear the notifications its only the same four download completed ones reappear.
Is there some way to manually remove them permanently assuming they are stored on device and for some reason not getting deleted properly?

Same Problem with my XPERIA pro running Buttermilk ROM.....I downloaded a DX Home Launcher app, just to test (I love the Zeam launcher!) and the notification keeps reappearing each time I download something from the app market! Any help please?

Guess its a silly thing but I tried opening the Download history in the Browser and .......behold!!! This app was actually downloaded from the browser and now that I have cleared it from the browser, it is no longer showing up. Common sense...but well, I really didn't remember I downloaded this one on my browser and not the app market
I have a button which says "Clear" on the right side of the screen, but I have Samsung.
Go into the "Downloads" app or the download history in the browser and clear the files from there. That should stop the notifications.
Try whether this works?
Senior,
How about you give this a try?
1. Move the files which ur screen notifications refer to, into ur PC folder temporarily
2. Delete your download history in your phone
3. Reboot your phone and browse internet again
Check whether the same problem happens? If it's not, then you move your files back into your phone
Sincerely,
whitefang

[Q] googleplay crashes," operation process.google.com.gapps stopped"

I have a samsung galaxy s3 purchased just over 2 months ago. and just yesterday googleplay started crashing. once I open it, it shows a black screen and then goes back to homescreen. sometimes it crashes when I press "install". at the same time, this message shows each time it crashes or when I restart the phone: "operation process.google.com.gapps has stopped" or something like that. I searched the internet for solutions and here's what I tried so far:
-restarted phone.
-deleted caches and history from googleplay.
-then i deleted them from all google apps i have.
-uninstalled updates from googleplay. now I only have the options "force close" and "disable" instead.
-changed date and time "though they were correct". then changed them back.
-tried rebooting "and by that i mean pressing the close button for like 12 sec and the phone was restarted". because i don't know what rebooting is.
got any solutions? or maybe even guide me through the previous steps correctly?

HTC One (M8) performance issues

Hi, I've had the M8 for 4 months now and can't help but notice how buttery smooth it is on reports from other people, but mine is just plagued with performance issues. I don't have any CPU intensive apps running in the background or anything and sometimes when I try to turn the screen on, it vibrates as if it turned on but nothing, this can go on for 30 secs or more until it finally turns on.
Another example is app switching. I can be on SMS app and switching to chrome can just freeze my phone for upwards of 15 seconds, pressing lock button doesn't work either when it's frozen like this, and if it does work, then the above happens.
This happens everyday, no matter what I'm doing. I have even tried setting High Performance in developer options, but the only change it does is use more battery.
Also, I noticed that opening the Camera app takes time as well, so it's impossible to capture those one of a kind moments because I have to wait 10+ seconds for the camera app to be useful.
I have 10+GB of free space.
Is the phone stock, not modded, rooted, bootloader unlocked, etc.?
Something is definitely not right. Have you tried to backup your personal data, and doing a factory reset?
Or see if the problem persists in safe mode? To boot in safe mode, reboot, and while the white boot screen is showing, hold down the vol down rocker until the phone shows the home or lock screen with SAFE MODE i the lower left corner. This will boot the phone with no 3rd party apps, so you can't try to reproduce the Chrome issue you mentioned. But you can at least check the screen-on issue. If the phone seems okay in safe mode, you may have a 3rd party app that is causing issues.
Either you have some sort of software or hardware issue, cause the issue you mentioned are certainly not normal for this phone.
+1 to above.
What launcher are you using?
The phone is completely stock. I haven't tried the factory reset or safe mode. What main items do I need to backup before a factory reset?

What "state" is your phone in:
Pure unrooted stock?
Rooted?
Custom recovery?
S-off or s-on?
Pure unrooted stock straight from the AT&T store.

Depends on what you want to keep, and where its stored. If its going to freak you out to loose it, then back it up.
Photos and videos you took are a must. Either move them to the SD (if not already) or backup on computer. And if on SD, I'd still back them up on your computer or to the cloud, anyway (just in case).
Similarly, any documents or other items that are not easily replaceable. The internal storage (virtual SD) should survive a factory reset. But if its important, I'd back it up on your computer anyway.
If you keep your contacts on Gmail (which I recommend) then that is already saved to the cloud (will auto sync back to the phone after you factory reset). If you have contacts, email, etc. that is not on Gmail, you might want to back those up. Its really up to you.
If you have a lot of app data and other stuff you want to keep, you can try Helium: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup

I would definitely try a factory reset first, as that is probably the first thing they will do at the store if you take it there, anyway.
But if factory reset doesn't work, it may be a hardware issue and a warranty replacement if recommended. But since its 4 months old, OP can't take it back to the store. OP has to go through warranty exchange by mail, or to a Device Support Center (if one is nearby). You can only do exchanges in-store within the first 14 days.
Has this happend since day one? I agree, you either have an app that's acting crazy or an actual HW issue. I'd try the factory reset.
BTW - Where are the developer options on the United Stated AT&T variant? I have not found them.
I tried the factory reset and it's working fine for now. I'm going to be selectively installing back the apps as I need them so I don't end up with a rogue app again.
The only things I had changed were the runtime from Dalvik to ART. I also had only 1 app running in the background (CleanMaster) and was using Sense 6.0 launcher or Nova.
I'm going to keep it in Dalvik and not install that app and see how it goes.
Thanks for your responses.
PS: theandies, to unlock the developer options go to About -> Software Information -> More -> and click about 7 times on the build number.

I had the same issue. Once I switch back to DALVIK from ART my issues were corrected.

Strange menu button problem?

For the past week or two, I've been having an issue with the menu/back button on the top left portion of my screen. The problem is that when I press the button on the screen, it does absolutely nothing. It happens with several different apps such as email, Facebook, chrome, gallery, etc. No matter how hard I push on the screen, the button does absolutely nothing and it is driving me crazy. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I should also add that this happens both in portrait mode and landscape.

There have been lots of posts/threads on this! Seems to be Facebook Messenger causing the issue..
+1 on seeing that it has been reported to be caused by the Facebook messenger app. Mine doesn't have a problem so it's apparently an issue with one version.
People have been successful fixing it by uninstalling updates to the app or uninstalling the app all together.
Hoping for a fix from Facebook. I'm glad mine doesn't have this problem!

Thank you guys for your input. I will try to uninstall Facebook Messenger to an older version and see what happens.

YUP! I have the same issues. Just went to tmobile and because I am past the 14 days I was told to contact LG and see about a fix. The only temporary fix is to shut off the phone take out the battery for 30 seconds and then restart the phone. It fixes the menu/back button briefly. I end up doing this 3 -4 times a day.

My LG V10 shows that I can't uninstall because it is a built-in app. I did clear cache and the menu/back button is now working. Let's see if that is a permanent fix for me.

And if you need to use FB Messenger, you may try uninstalling updates to the app and turning off automatic updates to the app in the Play Store.... maybe the version that shipped with the phone doesn't have the bug. Also, others have mentioned alternative messengers apps for messaging thru FB.
