[Q] facebook events via widgets (daylight saving time issue) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi. i have an issue with the times on facebook events when displayed via a widget. i live in the uk and we are currently in bst (gmt+1). all my other calendar events show the correct times except for facebook events where the time is an extra hour ahead (as if it was applying daylight savings twice). if i view the events in the facebook app they have the correct time, as they do via the default calendar application. i've installed numerous calendar/agenda widgets and they all exhibit the same problem with facebook events. if i manually change the timezone of my phone to gmt it corrects the times but i'd rather not leave my phone like this. does anyone know if this is a simple setting i need to change or is there an underlying bug somewhere ?
if it helps i'm running the xwkf3 firmware, the phone is rooted, and i'm currently using the "go launcher ex" launcher (i've tried other launchers but this makes no difference).

[Q] LauncherPro calendar widget with facebook events

Hey all,
I'm having a really annoying problem on my TB. Basically facebook events do not get removed from the calendar/agenda when you change from 'attending' to 'not attending' This is particularly annoying to me because I am trying to get rid of a multiple day event (may 4 through june 11) and it clutters every single day of my calendar/agenda. If anyone knows of a way to remove facebook events from the LP calendar/widget please let me know.
Thanks

I'm having the same issue... All my Facebook birthdays are showing in my Launcher Pro Calendar widget... it's so annoying because I can't easily find my real events and it's confusing.
Tried disabling the facebook calnedar from the calendar app on the phone, and still no luck...
Let me know if you resolve this..
Thanks!'

try removing it from gmail > calendar, and unsubscribe, since the calendar gets it from your gmail calendar
hopefully that helps

[REQUEST] AOSP Calendar

I use the calendar on my phone a lot, with in fact 5 Google calendars in use and on view at the same time across 3 different Google accounts. Unfortunately the SGS2 calendar is sadly deficient with regard to the AOSP calendar as I used with Cyanogenmod 6.1 on my Hero previously and I would very much like to swap it out for the AOSP calendar. Can anyone advise on how to do this? I have seen this described for the original Galaxy and variations but have not been able to implement this on the SGS2. Many thanks in advance for any assistance!
Disadvantages of Samsung Calendar with regard to AOSP calendar:
Black background makes many appointments difficult to see as calendar colours are optimised for white background as with Google calendar web interface and AOSP calendar app. There does not appear to be any support for a theme or colour option setting.
All-day events are shown right at the top of the page and so are easily missed on Samsung Calendar but kept in view on with AOSP. See attached 'day view' screenshot with no all-day events visible despite week and month view showing 3 all day events that day.
All-day events lasting more than one day are shown separately for each day in most views with Samsung calendar and so it is not easy to see that they span several days. In week and month view, they are often reduced to tiny squares which have no label and can be really hard to see- see attached screenshot- can you see that there are 3 all day events on Saturday 21st but only 2 on the other days in the purple calendar? AOSP calendar would show them as continuous events spanning several days.
No hyperlink support: AOSP calendar allows you to click through on a phone number mentioned in an appointment to dial it, or the location described to do a maps search, the Samsung Calendar does not permit this.
Screenshots taken with this app (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.geeksoft.screenshot&feature=search_result) which decided to shift all of the colours here for some reason although I don't think it significant here- it still illustrates the above points adequately.
Hardware/ Software specs:
Samsung Galaxy S2, unbranded, unlocked, from Carphone Warehouse UK
Rooted
LauncherPro plus
Updated to current stock firmware
Calendars in use and on view here:

[Q] original calendar widget after ICS update

Hello,
I have an unbranded German S II. Since updating to Android 4.0.3 (through Samsung Kies), the standard calendar widget doesn't work like it used to anymore.
I synchronize with my Google account where I have multiple different calendars for different purposes (work, freetime, projects, etc.). On my phone I can go into the calendar app's configuration and tick the boxes of those calendars I want to have synchronized and shown. It used to work like that and I could make it so that only my work appointments would be shown on the calendar widget on my homescreen.
Now, after updating to ICS, the calendar widget will show all calendars at all times, rendering it less useful. No amount of fiddling with the properties has corrected this. After asking in two other forums, this is my last hope.
I really hope somebody here knows the problem and might be able to help. Or is this really just me? Thanks in advance!
I don't have a direct answer to your question, but if the stock calendar widget isn't behaving how you'd like it to, there's a Play Store brimming with alternatives. I'm sure at least one will function in the way you're hoping.
Yeah, I know. I don't need any fancy, skinnable, customizable calendar apps that fill the android market. I'd rather have the stock widget that just does what I want it to. Seeing as this worked fine before the update, I hoped there was something I could do. Alas, seems as if that is not the case. Thanks though
Hello, i have exactly the same problem. Did you find any solution ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
It's good to hear someone finally acknowledging the problem. I was starting to question my sanity as it seems that out of millions of owners of the SII only I have the problem. Finally someone else speaks up, thank you for that
Sadly, I have not found a solution since. I completely changed the way I organize my events in google calendar. It's not as well organized as it was before but it gets the job done. Still, I would prefer if the calendar worked like it did before...
If you don't want to redo your whole google calendar organization, I guess you could indeed try a third party calendar. The play store is full of calendar apps; I was overwhelmed, because I just want a simple and clean calendar, like the stock one.

When you select the widget, you should be prompted to select which calaendar to display. If it doesn't, check out this alternative widget. You can still use your default calendar, but use this widget instead of the stock:

How to change default app for calendar

I've flashed my i9300 with new rom (MM 6.0). I've used "nano" openGAAPS.
For calendar and reminders I'm using "business calendar" app from store and after flashing I have problem with editing reminders: the problem is that when I choose a reminder to edit, the edit panel is one from google calendar (only gives me date and time change) but I would like that edit panel is from business calendar so that I have other options to change (such as how long before given time the reminder will sound itself (ex. 15min before, 1h before and so on)
so, is there way, and how, to force that my default app for changing reminders is business calendar?
also one additional problem: in business calendar app I can see all the calendars I'm using. So problem is that google has synced my phone with gmail account and drawn all the calendars from my account. So basicly i have 6 calendars: 4 from gmail account, 1 "my calendar" (i think that's the default business calendar calendar) and 1 local calendar that is "my calendar" that I'm using. I can only delete that "my calendar" and others can't be deleted from business app (but I don't need them and i would like to delete them) so I would like to have only 1 calendar - "my calendar"
yelp?
If you read the reviews of the app.. It's the app causing it.

It can't be app... It worked like charm before flashing.
I choosed on purpose the lowest possible gaaps package to avoid google calendar bloatware and it stills high-jacks my calendar...

Umm.. Allow me to elaborate..
Each and every version of android is completely different from the last. You can see the android version from its API. Newer API's need updated apps as the code is different and optimised from the previous version so the way the app "calls" to the API is different and the older apps cannot take advantage of it.
Couple that with brand and model differences, the way the API calls the hardware will be different and optimised and older apps will not be able to take advantage of it.
And you can take into account that you phone was never made to run anything higher than 4.x, the API will struggle to communicate with any part of the phone software or hardware. OEM code is illegal to use in custom roms so it all has to be totally written from scratch, of which the app will not know about and will not be able to take advantage... You get it..
If you want complete compatibility then you need to buy a newer phone with native support for the new API's.
I hope this clarifies roughly why you are experiencing issues with an otherwise known to be good app. Basically the app and rom are to blame, more likely the rom itself.

shivadow, thnx for answer.
also I've discovered what is the problem: the copied calendar isn't compatible to new OS so business calendar tries it's best to read event as "whole day" and it redirects editing of the events to the google calendar. The new events that are added to the local calendar which is default calendar of BC can be edited normally.
So I'm copying manually events that are important so that I can delete copied calendar...
also one strange thing is that copied calendar has messed up reminder starting time of events: if an event is set to begin at 19h, it sounds alarm at 7h. the other day it sounded the alarm at 00h and it was set to start that day at 12h...
Like I said, compatibility issues with the api..

Question Outlook in work profile - possible bug on S23

Have been using Outlook in my work profile with no issues on a Pixel 6 for the past 2 years. Switched to a S23U a few days ago and am periodically unable to see my Outlook calendar. S23U just displays a blank calendar with no events and claims that all available calendars are hidden. Force quitting Outlook and restarting it immediately resolves the issue. Anyone else seen that?
I am 100% stock ATT firmware. The only slightly unusual thing I do is that I also install Outlook in my personal profile which allows my Garmin Fenix 7 watch to catch notifications from Outlook. The Outlook in the personal profile is completely unconfirmed, but it does seem to see notifications from the work profile and allows the Fenix to catch and display them. Had the same setup on the Pixel 6 and it worked without any issues.
No issues on mine. Outlook for work in secure folder and personal outlook in my standard profile all working as expected.

Have not, I try to not deal with first level tech support when I can avoid it. I don't need to be told to reboot the phone and clean cache 5x despite me telling them that I have already tried that
I use Outlook for my work account and I have not had any issues with the calendar (I live and die by my calendar). Both in the app and the app widget are working perfectly fine for me.
Go into the app and go to settings, account, reset account and your calendar sync issue should then be sorted.
This method shouldn't wipe your account, so no need to start messing trying to set it all back up again.

I think there is a bug with the Samsung Calendar app (including Calendar storage).
Although my case is different from yours, this is what my problem is:
I use Your Calendar Widget on my Homescreen instead of Google Calendar Widget. If I edit a calendar entry, such as changing the event date, the event disappears from this 3rd party widget, although the Google Calendar Widget shows the event in the right place after the edit.
I use the same setup on my OnePlus phone and I don't have this problem there, so a problem with the 3rd party app can be ruled out.
