[Q] Android phone as virtual iso cdrom reader ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, sorry first for my bad english.
I saw an article about the zalmann "zm-ve200" , an external hard drive that can mount CD/DVD ISO files on-the-fly and so act as a virtual cdrom reader, wich allow users to boot directly on .iso images from their bios.
So i started asking myself: "Why we can't do the same on an android device ?"
Tell me if i'm wrong but (with root permissions of course):
- The usb port can simulate a fake cdrom reader when connected on a PC (with specific kernel module i presume)
- The linux kernel of android may mount iso file with the loopback device ?
- A gui APP is very simple to make, as there is one command to load kernel module and one to mount iso ? (+ code to list iso on the SDcard)
I would love to have this on my android phone !
Immagine, you will can choose to boot your PC on your favorite live linux distro from your phone, or maybe install any OS that can fit on your SDcard !
Hey guys, i know you can do this

No developer excited by this project ? :s
Please tell me if you think that can't be done !

It surprises me that this doesn't exist already, it should be possible

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

Good point to start, huh?

[Q] Android external display

Hi,
First at all I apologise for posting this topic here, I know that it is not in the correct forum, but I am not able to post in the developers forum... and dam it, I am a senior developer!
This is my scenario: I have a Nexus 4 rooted and I am running Ubuntu (desktop version, not Ubuntu Touch) on my device chrooting it.
To get access to my Ubuntu installation I can use ssh (command line) or VNC (desktop environment, in my case LXDE). However, I'd like to automatically run Ubuntu when I connect my device to an external monitor, something similar to "Ubuntu for Android".
Thanks to the new Android 4.2 "Secondary Displays" API I can detect when an external display is connected but I don't know if I can access to this display from my Ubuntu chroot directly or I'll need to continue using VNC.
So, my question is:
Is there any way to access my second display from my chrooted Ubuntu and configure X11 to output on this display?
Thank you very much in advance

Remix OS on thin client

Hello,
i am currently trying to install Remix OS on a DELL Wyse Z90DE7 thin client because my girlfriend is enjoying mobile gaming a lot and I wanted to set this up for her as an Android gaming platform.
Originally Windows 7 embedded was installed but i want Remix to be a standalone system and not as dual boot.
My problem is that i don't want to install it on a USB flash drive, but either on the internal 4GB S-ATA Flash Disk or an external 250GB S-ATA HDD that is connected via the second S-ATA port on the mainboard of the thin client. But it simply won't boot from disk after i started the ISO from the flash drive, hit TAB and edited the line to "/kernel initrd=/initrd.img root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=android_x86_64 INSTALL=1 DEBUG=" to install it on the 250GB HDD. I have only few knowledge about LINUX and even less about GRUB, but I think the boot loader is the primary problem. Else I already chose NTFS and ext4 as file systems.
I know, that the hardware can run it, because after installation i was asked to reboot or run the system (i chose run) and it started to boot and i got even on the desktop. but after reboot without the attached USB drive it got stuck at "detecting android".
I hope you can help me and thanks in advance,
Dennis

Android system dump

Hi guys,
First of all, my sincere appologies if I have posted in the wrong section, but I have used the search button and haven`t found an answer to my question (s).
I have a Vauxhall Insignia ans have installed an android chinese unit on it. Everything works fine, as it should, but as human nature I want something more.
So, I was wondering, if there is anyway in which I can dump the whole system in the computer and emulate it in order to see what it can do and what I can change?
So, basically, what do I need to do to emulate the whole operating system which is present on the android unit, on my Windows PC? How can I dump the system and emulate it on the computer? What app do I need and what software do I need to run on the computer !
On the unit,it`s Android 4.4.4 and the computer is Windows 10. I can connect via USB on the android unit, if that helps.
Thank you for your time and answers !

Yoga book dual boot for windows and android versions

AS WE ALL KNOW THAT YOGA BOOK CAME WITH WINDOWS OR ANDROID BUT NONE OF THEM CAME WITH DUALBOOTING OPTION SO HOW COULD WE BOOT BOTH OF THEM (ANDROID AND WINDWS) ON OUR DEVICE; WELL THERE IS A LOT OF DEVICES SUPPORT DUAL BOOTING LIKE CHUWI.
SO HERE IS THE TUTORIAL

SO I THINK THIS TUTORIAL FR CHUWI 10 PLUS WILL HELP US AS YOGA BOOK USERS (WIN AND ANDROID) FOR DUAL BOOTING
I DIDNT TRY IT YET, BUT IAM SURE ITS WORKING

Good Luck. Hope you enjoy your exclusive cutting board afterwards. :fingers-crossed:
Honestly, it doesn't really help because they use a custom bios, which we don' t have and won't jave without any experienced developer around here. And if I'm not mistaken, it has been designed for dual boot even before.
Chuwi uses an AMI Bios...
Lenovo two DIFFERENT Insyde bios'es. Furthermore, it looks like the Android Version Bios is not even from Insyde...

Cool, but nor the Windows nor Android Bios'es are made for InsydeQ2S. Lenovo uses a custom made BIOS...
Folks, Lenovo used on purpose different bios'es. The Android Version will never understand ACPI, UEFI, Bitlock etc... it's cropped EEPROM is just not meant for it. I know it's a frustration, but it won't happen. The Windows Version will "maybe" be able to load some kind of x86 Android, but what about display, halo, wifi, anypen, wacom, dolby etc drivers?

i don't have device in my hands now
but i have a little hope
at least we can boot windows or android from USB/microSD
hmm
for windows version it must be easy
we can keep windows on primary disk
and install android on external drive
* :|||| then how this s**t can boot it?
hmm, we need to disable secure boot
then add grub to bcd with easybcd
* :\ android need system/boot/data/cache... !!
yep, we need to partition usb drive like official android disk
same sizes for system, cache, ...
not userdata
then we need to edit ramdisk
we need to edit fstab(and init.r2_cht_ffd.rc) to mount system and other partitions from /dev/sdb(c) [instead of /dev/block/by-name/]
* what about other partitions like keymaster?
i'm not sure it's needed but we can symlink it on init scripts
but for android version i'm not sure what i have to do
first i downloaded android firmware zip and there was file called "bootloader"
Code:
/Volumes/ExFAT 1/YB1-X90L_USR_S000155_1609272258_WW06_BP_ROW-flashfiles/bootloader: DOS/MBR boot sector, code offset 0x3c+2, OEM-ID "mkfs.fat", sectors/cluster 4, root entries 512, Media descriptor 0xf8, sectors/FAT 200, sectors/track 32, heads 64, sectors 204800 (volumes > 32 MB) , serial number 0x786ce839, label: "ANDROIDIA ", FAT (16 bit)
so it's fat image
and i was able to mount it
BINGO
volume label is ANDROIDIA just like what i saw in chawe boot option photos in OP guide
well on bootloader i can see \EFI\BOOT\bootx64.efi
:good: :good: :good:
now i'm sure android version yoga can also boot (any)efi file
* but who dare to touch it?
noone, we have tool called efidroid : https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/efidroid-t3447466
this guy can boot efi files for us
someone have to port efidroid for yoga (thats why i asked for device tree on TWRP thread)
now we need windows boot manager efi files (uefi boot partition) and windows system files to boot windows
ok, i'm not sure how to install windows on usb at this stage
but for example we can boot windows setup usb
(we need to find a way)
like install windows by virtualbox with PC on USB, then try to boot it on yoga (not sure)
or took backup of windows version and restore on USB :\
my friend wants to buy windows version (right now we have shipping problem from amazon) and i will try to install android on it
then if anyone wants to work, i hope can help

Hi guys!
So I just got an Android YogaBook and the "bios" (actually UEFI) is a standard Intel made UEFI loaded with tons of options.
Android is loaded as any standard UEFI OS using a bootloader called KernelFlinger.
This means that we can boot Android, Linux, Windows and in theory also macOS (LOL).
I'll try to install Windows in the next few days, should not be hard (except for finding and usb adapter LOL) and will report back
P.s. I believe the Windows version uses the same UEFI but is locked in a user friendly "basic mode". This makes sense as they are supposed to be able to get into the UEFI while we're not

Remix Hacked Bravia DTS ISO Single Boot Install

I've done it successful install Sony Bravia graphics engine the photos look awesome and the movies have a nice completion to the eye. I read the install script in the zip file I downloaded from XDA did it all in terminal same thing for Numbers. That builds a pretty kickin system.img wait till you listen to music of your choice. If you want to install as a single boot operating system you can the only thing is it's not rooted but performance makes up for it. I think the only reason why it's rooted for Windows is because Android system needs to write log files to an ext4 partition and the system image is the only place for them. It needs to be mounted rw to do this and that is why they don't last. Now to install as single boot first make a bootable USB drive with Rufus or Unetbootin. Then disconnect all USB drives but if you would like to install it on a external hard drive too leave it plugged in you can create a USB external hard drive install post install and it will not effect the computer installation and if you have multiple drives disconnect all but target drive. Now boot the USB drive we just made and when the boot menu is on the screen press e. Where it says DATA= USB_.BLAH_BLAH_BLAH delete the everything thing on that line past DATA= then add INSTALL=2 . It should look like this DATA= INSTALL=2 this will install RemixOS press F10 to boot. The install goes quick and the modified menu entries for grub will also be installed. There is support for 4k monitors and external monitors for laptops and Surface pro 3. In all there is 6 different menu entries you should find what you're looking for. I also noticed Google has removed gapps from Remix Hacked this ISO has gapps installed. Its still the same Remix Hacked so it has just got better. Download is on MEGA link is in the attachment.. Thanks again.
