[Q] KERNEL issue: SpeedMod + Samsung Galaxy S4G - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a version of the SpeedMod kernel for the Galaxy S 4G? Or can I just use the one for the S i9000?
I cannot backup my current rom before flashing with ClockWork due to having the 3e recovery that verifies signatures. But I cannot find a kernel to use that matches my build. After lots of reading I would really like to use SpeedMod, unless someone has another suggestion compatible with all FROYO versions that works with the Galaxy S 4G.
Thanks!

[Q] Can I Flash SpeedMod Kernel on my SGS2

Hello
I'm new to this...
I was wondering if I can install the SpeedMod Kernel on my SGS2??
Why this Question:
When I rooted my decive with cf-root and odin I have chosen the Kernel with the same "version" my stock kernel had.
Now I'm not sure if I can install any sgs2 kernel (in this case SpeedMod) or if the "version" is important.
I think that all SGS2 Phones should have the same hardware so I sould be able to use any Kernel. Is that right?
What do I have to be aware of, when I choose a new kernel?
Thanks
Ditschi
Yes you can, don't worry about it. Versions don't care much after all.
Thanks a lot thought that. I'll flash he kernel tomorow.
But what im interested in:
When you say the version doesn't matter why are there so many versions of cf-root? Is'nt that a lot of extra work? Why not useing only one kernel?
Cheers
Ditschi
That's for people who want to stay as close as possible to stock.
The developers compile their kernel to work with any Samsung or TouchWiz based rom.
CF Root extracts the kernels from the specific rom, adds in the goodies and presents it to us for use to root the respective rom. So basically what you have is the stock kernel with root added among other things
ah ok...
That makes sense. Thanks a Lot for the help

[Q] Stock Kernel and OpenVPN

Just finished rooting my Samsung Galaxy S2 by following the directions I found in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627#post18576627
Now I would like to get OpenVPN working on my phone, hoping to keep a stock kernel if possible. Or am I going to need to compile my own kernel to get the tun/tap.ko module working since this isn't enable by default. Any other recommendations are welcomed.
Samsung Galaxy SII SGH-I777
Android version: 2.34
Kernel version 2.6.35.7

Custom Rom for I9100P Nfc .?

Hello I try a custom rom for S2 chip NFC .... but I've seen no nothing yet .... anyone has ideas?

Many scientists and anyone who has thought about a rom for GS I9100P .....
Send by Liberty Tab Aroma ICS V170 Boot V8 TVRP 2.1.3 ... Galaxy S2 NFC
I've not seen any custom ROMs specifically for the I9100P. But I9100P phones can use I9100 custom ROMs mostly fine, except the phone will lose NFC functionality. However, there is a mod somewhere out there that allegedly re-enables the NFC functionality on P model phones if you choose to flash an I9100 custom ROM.
I don't actually have it bookmarked, so I don't have a link for you, but I'm sure if you search around for it, you can find it.
Just make sure if you choose to go this route, to stay away from I9100G ROMs, firmwares, and kernels.

[Q] Question about Kernels and Roms

Hi! i have just bought a galaxy s3! Before i had a galaxy s scl and im familiarized with custom kernels and roms but with this phone i feel like newbie. I see there are a lot of custom kernels and i wanted to know if to put a new kernel is like before. Put the tar file in pda and flash with odin.
Another question is what differences are with stock kernels.
Also i would like to ask about roms, which is the best rom actually?
Thanks
Now most of the kernels can be flashed with cwm recovery. Just go through kernel instructions and how to flash on your phone.
There are lots of different kernels available. You can find the features and difference in their topic itself. Some are good for performance, some are for speed, some are battery life. You will have to find best kernel for youself. I am using syiah 1.8.
Best Rom discussions are prohibited here. You can try different rooms and see which one works for you. If you like vanilla android then try cm10.

[Q] Dorimanx Kernel + Neat ROM Lite 4.0 refuses dual boot

Hi everyone
My issue is somehow strange, I performed a clean install (full wipe, etc..) with Dorimanx Kernel 7.43 of Neat ROM 4.0 (XXLSJ) as primary ROM
When I install secondary ROM, Neat ROM boot loops and get stuck on the first Samsung bootanimation (where the logo is being drawn again and again)
I fixed permissions for secondary ROM, but still no boot, neither primary, nor secondary
I thought that ROMs are independent but seems like I'm wrong
Now I'm hesitating to retest the same with 7.44 kernel and 4.1 ROM (XWLS8)
What Have I messed ?
PS:
I reflashed my ROM and my phone is working fine, this thread is not about solving bootloop (with hundreds of threads dedicated here), it's about dual booting
Dorimanx doesn't support dual boot with any Samsung jelly bean roms currently
So it's kernel related, I did not notice this detail when flying over the changelog or the infinite number of replies :silly:
Thank you for the quick answer...
Try this Siyah MCM Kernel ver 3.0.60
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cm10i9100vsync/files/kernel/
I believe it is smoother than the Dorimanx Kernel and it supports dualboot.
Tha'ts the Kernels XDA thread:

Not exactly sure what Conny has posted, but just incase you didn't know dual boot can't work with any siyah or dorimanx kernel till the dev fixes it, and only siyah 6 beta 1 or above and dorimanx v3.37 or above work with samsung jelly bean

1Chef is right, I thought Neatrom published a 4.2.1 release
Considering neatrom is based on stock Samsung and not aosp then it can't have released 4.2.1
Got another bootloop while trying (hopfully) the new setup (7.44 + 4.1.2 XWLS8), nothing happened
I think that siyah will give the same result as Dorimanx is forked from, maybe with latest stable future release of Siyah, it could be fixed.
Now, I got tired from re-re-re-re-reflashing my phone :silly:
I'd better wait
Newbie Takes The Plunge to Custom Rom and Kernel: Any Suggestions?
I'm still fairly a newbie, but have rooted two phones so far, thanks to the great information, tutorials, guides, resources, and videos posted here on XDA. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 and my daughter's Samsung Epic 4G.
I rooted my I9100 successfully a few months ago, but have never flashed a rom. I'm going to try out Neat Rom Lite tonight. I've finally gotten up the nerve!
QUESTION: Does anyone have any suggestion of which kernel I should flash along with it? I need better battery life. I would love to be able to watch videos and use the phone regularly and make it through the whole day without charging. Is this possible? Can a kernel and Neat Rom Lite do this for me?
Also, I rooted the Samsung Epic 4G yesterday. Any suggestions on what rom and kernel to put on it and how would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch for any assistance and comments.
