Does anyone know if there are any apps that will let you fully customize the AutoBrightness?
By which I mean, setting up varying sets of:
Light detected between (min, max), Brightness set to ###
I think I saw somewhere that CM7 works this way, but is there any app that will do this for the stock build (rooted and unlocked)?
Its not an autobrightness app but I have seen substancial improvements to my battery life using the SuperDim app, it does have save slots but you have to switch between them manually its not auto. Hope thats somewhat helpful.

Thanks, I have something for manual swapping, but it's... inconvenient.
I was really looking for an app that does custom autobright settings. I can't believe no one has coded one somewhere...

Those were the first things I tried. I didn't find anything, which is why I posted here.

I've been looking for an app that is supposed to keep the screen brightness at a certain level no matter what app is running that could change the brightness. I have googled and googled and all I can find are auto brightness apps. The app I am thinking that I say my have been a script that runs in the background. My wifes eris keeps shooting the brightness to max all the time. Thanks!
You do know that the brightness slider can be set to a certain llevel.

Umm yes I do. My wife has an Eris rooted running exactly the same rom as mine and no matter what you set the brightness slider to, 5 minutes later, wake the phone up and poof brightness is at max. So my question again is that if anyone knows the app or script in question, your help would be greatly appreciated.
I second this, my phone does the same thing

Have you tried a different ROM? I had two Eris before my D2 and never had that issue.

Not so sure about that. Mine did it once or twice when still running the OTA 2.1... made me change the screen brightness from Auto to about 30~40%. Since running xtrSENSE 4.6.5 I haven't seen any problems with the screen brightness resetting to max. There are times when the auto brightness seems befuddled and selects a strangely dark setting, but it quickly settles down and works fine.
My money is on an ill-behaved app. What diff apps do you and your wife run?

The apps that she has that I don't are:
Bubbles
Connect4
eBay
FxCamera
Shazam
Sketcher
Maybe the camera app? I'll uninstall it and see.
I'm thinking the camera app. In the xtrSENSE thread, somebody mentioned a problem with a camera, so it's the likely culprit. Good luck.

Once again did you flash a new rom. I ran nonsensikal and kaosfroyo for over a year and a half. Not once did they act up. So either reflash your xtrasense or something else. So either you have a bug in one of your apps as others have stated or something is wrong with the ROM.
What I did was used an app called abrightness and went into settings and unchecked automatic adjust for brightness.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
The culprit ended up being the FxCamera app. Uninstalled it and no brightness issues. Oh, and "whining" and asking a valid question in the QUESTIONS forum are two completely different things. Thanks to anyone who actually offered constructive comments.

Wondering if anyone knows where I can obtain a utility or hack to adjust the automatic brightness settings? In a dark or dim room, the brightness on auto is much higher than I need.
There were a few hacks available for windows smartphones to do this, but I haven't found any for Android/HTC. Found one specifically for the droid-x but don't think it works for us.
Been wondering on something like this also

CM7 has options to fine tune how auto brightness works.
^ Shift Faced
confirmed to work for me. I've adjusted mine in CM7 just the way I like.
Question to somebody else who has done it. Is it showing 1 colum having -1 on the buttons box? I noticed only one setting I cant turn off the 4 bottom lights because it doesnt let you change the -1 to a 0...
is there any guides i could read on how to set it all up? i have no idea what everything mean in that menu.

I'm right along with you. I just looked at it and then slowly backed out because I didn't want to mess anything up and I'm usually all for pressing buttons to see what happens.

I'll bump for this as well. I've always wanted to understand how to adjust the auto brightness in CM7, but I've searched around and haven't found any info on it.

Any way to dim the capacitive led buttons on the evO LTE. I know there is a script out there but the download is unavailable. Anyone can help?

Yeah I posted a message on the thread and still waiting. Just wanted to see if anyone had it laying around to share..
Found it one that works! Attached below for others. It lowers brightness to 1, stock brightness is 40. A lot less distraction for operating your phone in the dark. Just take the 50dimleds file(not all the folds, but just the file alone) and place it into system/etc/init.d/and reboot. This should save me a bit of battery too, yeah I know very little. lol

Find this file:
System/etc/init.d/01buttonlights
Open the file in that location in root explorer or similar app. Then in the file, change the brightest value from 1 to something higher. 40 is the brightest.
I tried searching the forums for this problem, but didn't find a solution.
When I edit the brightness levels and try to save, I get the message that 'Settings has stopped'. Is there a workaround to edit and save the levels, ie. ADB?

Yes, I am using Zeubea's CM10. I would love to dim my screen more so I can save battery, but it looks like more people have this problem of not being able to save levels.
Why don't you change the brightness manually in display setting with the slider?

But wouldn't that mean that brightness is set at a fixed level? I use my phone in different environments and automatic would be very handy. But thanks for the suggestion.
Okay guys, so after using a lot of tweaks for the rom I'm at a point where my performance and battery life is pretty good. So here's the one one app which always saves battery life like a pro:
SetCPU - it's a life savor, try setting up some profiles in it for the different battery states and lock screen etc. By setting normal CPU on lock screen to 300 it got so much better battery life.
To find the app just search "SetCPU" in play store, it does require root acces.
Sent from my LG-D620 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hmm, I am pretty sure that SetCPU needs a custom kernel with change-able clock speeds.

To overclock? Yes. To manage CPU profiles according to battery level, lock screen and so on. Only root is needed. Its only the frequency it changes

sorry for offtopic, before i factory reset i used rom toolbox pro for cpu profiles. i also found sd booster - it works for internal memory and external micro sd card.
i see there is standalone app for that also -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mehrmann.sdbooster&hl=pl

i don't know. imho it does not because it's about caching files, it's something like creating ram from int/ext memory and someone said:
Yeah it will degrade the life of the sdcard, which is why I advise users to perform due diligence in the Disclaimer/Warning.
But from the research I did it seems that the degradation is negligible enough that something else in the device will break before the sdcard. Or even more likely the user will replace their device due to pace of technology before the degradation is really noticed.

creating 256mb swap partition is more than actually making 4mb cache so i think it is barely impossible to damage the storage even because we download many apps or games so the storage is filling with data too
it is only my opinion
